KSal (and Myjob)- You could try different nut butter such as almond or cashew. You can normally get these from a health food shop. You can also get wholenut peanut butter which is just peanuts, no extra nasties. I have whole nut peanut butter and I now think that Sunpat tastes vile! M has the cashew nut butter on toast occasionally.

Ksal- you can get nut butters in health food shops. Holland & Barrat does almond nut butter & cashew nut butter that are just the nuts, a bit of oil & a little salt. I think you can get peanut butters that are like that too.

Ekka · 13/08/2009 10:36

MM - x-post!

Marthasmama · 13/08/2009 10:41

For once I got there first! Funny how we both said the same nuts!

Ronshar - try here for drugs while breast feeding info.

Pistachio- I'd get sent to bed too! Sorry to hear about the purple ankle

What happened to MN this morning, I couldn't get on for ages?

HMM- Have you survived the kfc?

MM- We have too many runner beans growing in our garden, am sick of picking, cutting and freezing them. Shall I send some over

star6 · 13/08/2009 12:55

ksal for some reason, i've checked... cashew nut butter has FAR less salt than almond butter... not sure if almonds are just naturally saltier? Both had no added salt and salt content in almond butter was substantially higher. just fyi.
you can get peanut butter without additives, too, like pistachio says.

yuck to the purply anke.
and csws and pistachio - I got sent to bed so my mom and sister could watch dallas when I was little!!! I remember hearing the theme tune as I walked down the hall!

kfc yuck. I don't like the smell of it when I walk by. or mcdonalds. I feel sick thinking about that.

MM I must try getting some runner beans tonight. I eat mange tout and sugar snap peas a few times a day. couldn't live without them. convinced my lips will turn green.

jenwa · 13/08/2009 13:43

I did watch dallas and Dynasty dont remember much though! I dont remember the dirty tramp and unfit mother csws but I have called it myself!!!

yummmyyyyy peanut butter...mmm.....

star do you eat mange tout alone, I like them too but with some humous maybe.

been to town today and got myself new shoes, jeans and cardi all with DH's money he said I could too Even treated myself to afew little smellies to pamper myself with. DD1 at inlaws as she was a monkey yesterday so had a lovely day with P. had her passport pic taken and she looks sooo cute.

We got beginning of sept off and wanted to go away but too late to sort passport so may go to cornwall but everywhere booked
Will have to have alook around.

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/08/2009 14:07

You could actually make your own peanut butter. Just pop roasted peanuts in a little blender and whizz up lots, adding a bit of sunflower or groundnut oil to loosen.

You're all making me feel v old being sent to bed so that your parents could watch Dallas!

KSal · 13/08/2009 15:04

I watched Dallas!! I remember making my parents crack up by commenting on the size of Pamela's breasts

ronshar · 13/08/2009 16:00

Dont worry CSWS. Now I know what you are talking about. I do remember the unfit mother /dirty tramp comments. I also remember phoning home whilst on a school trip to Yorkshire to ask my mum what was happening in Dallas that night

MM I looked at the link you gave yesterday. Just the thing thank you. Dr Hale is fab.
I shall pencil in a trip to BW when school back in. DH loves the Hollister clothes and now I know there is a shop there then I shall go before DH birthday in Oct.

Pistachio, nothing gets in the way of pump.

ronshar · 13/08/2009 16:01

Jenwa, can you not do the post office passport thing. I recieved W & mine back within 10 days.

star6 · 13/08/2009 19:45

Jenwa mange tout on their own yummmmmmmy

lol about Dallas. I always wanted to know what it was all about!

First day back was fine. Was happy to see Q at 3.30 but all went well. I realized that teaching is perfect. Loads of lovely holidays very very often and a long summer break.... and get to Q at 3.30, drop off at 8... and when he's with my friend, I get to see him at lunch, too! I think I like all that and having my job, too... it's a needs-must, but I don't think I'd like to be full time sahm. I'd also not like to have a regular 9-5 job with 20 days holiday per year or whatever it is... good compromise. I'm happy

ronshar is that where you pay extra for them to check it? Could have a go, will need to get pictures signed first.

star glad you happy, what a nice job and hours. I would like to be a sahm though with people looking after my kids at time .
had a nice day with Phoebe today. DD1 came home and the monster returned at bed time hopefully she will be better this weekend as my sis here so they will entertain each other

star6 · 13/08/2009 20:25

thanks jenwa and pistachio It's a nice balance. If I had to leave Q with a person I didn't know, however, it would be a different story.

Sorry to hear that DD1 is being a monster Jenwa.

star6 · 13/08/2009 20:40

Did I post that my last blood test showed hb of 6.8? I eat spinach with every meal (even breakfast!) with either a green bell pepper and/or orange juice and/or a kiwi. I've recently gone back on spatone (after blood test). I was having all of these pregnancy symptoms (dizziness, headaches, fatigue...etc) but really they are anaemic symptoms. Thank god... but because just feeling so out of it!
I'm worried that Q is now suffering and not getting enough iron... because I know it's supposed to be fine in my breastmilk but he eats spinach by the bowlfull - he'll eat it plain... loves it. I think it's one of those things where the body craves what it's missing Not sure what to do.

RachieW · 13/08/2009 20:45

Star- glad the first day back went well. You've made me feel more positive about going back, you are right teaching is a good job to have with a family.

Am shattered today again, ds is sooooo active it's exhausting. Dh has gone out tonight, if you remember he was off work seriously ill with man flu only 2 days ago I don't mind really was just dreading bedtime given the recent shenanigans but J had his bath, bottle and went to sleep within minutes so am happy. Dh has also texted to say he's on his way back. was actually quite enjoying sole control of the tv, laptop, sofa and chocolate biscuits

RachieW · 13/08/2009 20:51

Star- Sorry to hear about your test, not sure what else you can do that you aren't already? Can you see your GP? I'm sure that Q is getting enough iron, he sounds very active and I'd imagine he wouldn't be so if he was iron deficient. Can you speak to your GP too about Q or health visitor?

ronshar · 13/08/2009 21:19

Star Q is draining you of all your Iron. He is most probably just fine. Broccoli is better than Spinach for Iron. Apparently!
Great that you are felling so positive about work. I loved being at work when it was just DD1. It was when I had a herd of kids it got more difficult

Ekka · 13/08/2009 21:33

Rachie - I can sympathise! Dh called this afternoon to say he was working late, so I resigned myself to doing bedtimes, consoling myself with the thought of getting sole control of the tv/computer etc. Then he came home just after bedtime complaining he was tired and that he couldn't face working any later, but may have to work this weekend to make up for it - aaaargh!

Star, ronshar is right, Q will be the one taking the iron. I don't know what solution there is for you though.... I'm glad you are happy with your work situation. I have to admit, it does seem the ideal balance.

Marthasmama · 13/08/2009 21:34

Ronshar - Broccoli is indeed better for iron than spinach. The iron in spinach is not very easily absorbed.

Star - Eat spinach with broccoli and that will help you absorb the iron from both. Can't remember where I read that but I linked to it last time I mentioned it........ Glad you had a good first day back at work. It does sound like a lovely job!

Pistachio - You're such a healthy lady, my iron has never been above 9! I really should take iron but it makes me ill, there is never any Spatone in Boots when I look!

Jenwa - How are you feeling today. I am worried about you and your shaking. Glad you were able to treat yourself to some new bits.

Just written a little article for my local NCT about my hospital/breastfeeding fight. I hope it's ok. I haven't written anything for a long time! It made DH emotional when he read it bless him!

Happy to read through for you mm if you want (though will be in morning as am going up to bed in a few mins).

job sounds great star .
Spinach for breakfast, however, does not sound great! Broccoli much nicer than spinach too.

Just realised that I've had 2 vegetarian meals today. Eek - you guys are turning me veggie!
How was the kfc hmm?

Ds stood unaided for first time today. Not for long before he realised and sat down, but it is noticeable progress.
Think he has another bottom tooth on the way too, though hard to be sure. Would explain some of his recent sleep habits and his being a bit less than his usual 100% cheerful self.
