Hi everyone. I can't keep up with all the chat on here.. excuse my typing. A is teething and only happy in my arms and is wriggling like crazy

CSWS happy belated birthday
Star - it's great that Q is almost is almost walking. Can't believe you are wishing for his first steps.. toddlers are a whole new world of fun and mischief. Happy for A to wait for a few more months..

MM A is a scavenger too.. She wants everythimg we eat and drink. It is comical. Not been brave enough to give her yoghurt on her own yet. Far too messy. Don't know why I'm worrying though as a burst pipe last night means the bathroom and dining room are write offs. dining room ceiling is hanging down in a point and the carpet is squishy.. DS thought the indoor rain was cool

better get my lazy bottom into the kitchen and make a picnic for tomorrow. We are off to see Thomas the tank engine on the watercress line

star6 · 10/08/2009 19:41

I hope dentist went ok, myjob
I do not like the dentist, either. They are scary. But by now you are done and feeling better, I hope?

Q is the laziest eater. He wants it all off of a spoon. He'll ocasionally pick up food with his hands and miraculously put some in his mouth, usually he just crumbles it in his hands and throws it on the floor. He prefers to be fed on from a spoon. He'll eat lumpy stuff but much prefers yogurt or purees... anything he doesn't have to work at chewing too much.

jenwa · 10/08/2009 20:26

Hi AJM glad all going well.

pepper sorry the holiday was a nightmare! Hope you are recovering now

HM Look forward to some pics of the christening. Hope it all went well.

I am sooo tired, went to my friends bbq yesterday and had too much wine and was sick and hung over today Had a lovely night, I drank and had the kids with me I think the tablets did not mix well to be honest! DH had to put the kids to bed as I sent myself to bed!!! I have felt rotten today! DH was a star though and even went to work a little later today to make sure I was ok.

Hey, quick question, what do you all think about this. Dh has been a bit sensitive about me going and doing things while he's not in school teaching - so no one to go to pub w/ on a friday iyswim since everyone on holidays. So, my best friend (who usually looks after Q) says she'll take Q friday night (at bedtime) so DH and I can go out (first date without Q in 10 months!! ) and then she and I can go out the next night (sat). I haven't asked DH yet... I'm not sure if this is too selfish. what do you think? I thought it would be a nice balance - one night with him and then next I go... or is that not right? Sometimes I don't see things the way he does, so need an outside perspective here.
oh and of course, will do everything possible to be home at a "decent" time.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/08/2009 21:09

Well I think it'd be fine to go out without him regardless of whether you also go with him or not. But I would think that even he should be ok with your suggestion.

star6 · 10/08/2009 21:18

Cool thanks. Just needed to make sure I wasn't blurry headed and only thinking of myself having fun . I thought this b/c he doesn't get to go out on his own at all in this plan...
but as soon as he's back at work, I'm sure he'll be going out after work on a friday again... as he did SO MANY TIMES when I was pg and when Q was little.
You know... before Q was conceived we never went out without each other. Not ever unless it was absolutely necessary (i.e hen/stag do). We did EVERYTHING together. Now I feel like I enjoy time with him, but need my space, too.

Hi all, haven't posted for so long that I lost the thread

My Mum & Dad have gone home now had a great time with them and J loved all the attention. Dh and I took J to Broadstairs on Sunday, he really hated the sand wouldn't have anything to do with it and just stayed in the sun tent. Maybe I should put sand in the house so I can contain him in one area He wouldn't go in the sea for a paddle but liked watching the waves.

He has been a right nightmare to settle to sleep the last few days, at least an hours worth of screaming. I got a sleep book yesterday, we attempted controlled crying on sunday night but couldn't bear it. Anyway it said that at 9months babies shouldn't nap after 3.30pm. Well ds would nap around 5pm for 20mins, so yesterday we cut that out, managed to keep him awake and he was in bed asleep by 7.45pm taking only 10 mins to settle. I doubt we've cracked it overnight but maybe this is a way forward. I thought it would be fine for him to have a late sleep as it hadn't affected his night sleep before but maybe that is the problem no he's that bit older?

Star- think that your idea of going out is perfect. Dh and I go out separately quite a lot, I think we both appreciate having the break! In fact dh is going out on Friday night and I am on Saturday.

Marthasmama · 11/08/2009 10:05

Rachie - I've been AWOL too! I feel very naughty. Last night the internet was playing up, probably something to do with the road works that are currently going on at the end of the road! I won't let M sleep after 4pm and that seems to work for us, even though sometimes it's hell on earth trying to keep little miss grumpy awake. Glad you had a nice time with your parents, you do like popping into Kent don't you? Maybe you should pop near me (not that there is anything to do round here). I am up for Bluewater when anybody else is..... Maybe wait until after the holidays and definitely when Ronshar is back otherwise she'll get all grumpy again.

Just popping out to see an old friend but I will catch up later, internet connection permitting....

MM- I'm always popping into Kent When I used to work in town I'd always head into central London but now I can't bear the packed trains, people rushing around. Give me Kent any day! I'd def be up for meeting in BW, I go back to work at the start of term but have wednesdays off so maybe we could do it on a wednesday? Hope you had fun with your friend.

Myjob- for an hour in the dentist chair. I am such a scaredy cat and haven't been for ages.

oh I'd be so upset if I lost a slipper! More so if TV destroyed. How did he do it, csws?

Q just went to sleep 20 minutes ago for the night

star6 · 11/08/2009 19:21

how did we all get so un-chatty? prob when babies started moving...

ajm200 · 11/08/2009 19:29

Myjob sorry the dentist took so long. Bet you are glad it is over.

star. you should go out on your own sometimes and not feel guilty about it.

CSWS what happened to your telly?

Our day with Thomas was fun. My friend and I are shattered after running around with a group of small boys. The boys weren't tired though..getting old!

Must work out a better way to type while holding A. She really can wriggle.

Floodwaters are drying out but it really stinks. Assessor not coming until Fri then loads of work to be done to fix the damage so I hope the smell fades or I catch a cold

Marthasmama · 11/08/2009 19:57

Star - That has certainly been the thing preventing me coming on MN as much as I once did! That and problems with Virgin. Every time I think I can safely have some time on the internet she crawls over and tries to join in. It's so unfair!!! Hope you sorted something out about your evening out. I agree with everyone else, while it's important to spend time as a couple, it is also important to spend time as an individual. DH often goes out with his mates, but I hardly ever go out anymore.

Myjob - Eeek to the dentist! Hope it wasn't too hot, those chairs get very sticky!

CSWS - Oh naughty DH! What on earth was D doing that he as able to smash the telly? If that happened here DH would be devastated!

Rachie - I am always free [no life]. I think about you every time we go past that shop in BW! I'm so old and uncool that I can't even remember what it's called!

AJM - Glad you had a good time with Thomas!

Well, 4 weeks after my op and I am feeling almost completely better! Hurrah! Good job because M is a nightmare at the moment.

OP posts:
RachieW · 11/08/2009 20:17

MM- Urgh that dreaded shop, next time you are in BW go in and tut tut at it for me please Yay for feeling almost completely better, as soon as you are totally better let's meet up. We can go into Hollister (sp? not cool enough to know either) and tut tut together!

CSWS- Sorry to hear about the tv too. How did it happen?

Star- Hurrah for Q's good sleeping. J has gone down within 10mins tonight. I didn't let him sleep after 4pm again and think that's helping...of course he may wake any second (Rachie holds breath in fear....)

AJM- sorry I don't think I read all your posts properly, did you get badly flooded?

Right have to go as we are slowly getting round to watch Torchwood.

Marthasmama · 11/08/2009 20:22

Rachie - I suspect there is a 'fat girl' barrier at the door so I wouldn't even get in!

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 11/08/2009 20:45

Ah yes, the TV. There's a little table built into the bottom of our bed (it's like this one) and the telly was on there. Dh recently moved the little one that was there and put the bigger Sony Bravia one there instead. Ds likes to climb up on the platform at the bottom of the bed and then stand up and put his sticky paws on the tv. He was doing this, but obv put too much weight on the top of the TV and it toppled over and the screen smashed on the little bars on the side of the table.

Sorry about flood ajm. Will prob take quite a while to get everything sorted again. We had a big shed fire back in March (two fire engine jobby - shed was destroyed with all contents, as was new patio and our bedroom windows which shattered from the heat), and we're only just in the position to say that it's more or less dealt with. (Note to self - nag dh to send final claim details to loss adjuster so that we can get cash!)

Not sleeping after 3 or 4 doesn't seem to be a problem here, as ds didn't sleep after 1pm today, which isn't uncommon lately. But seriously, if you have a 2 nap baby, how on earth are you supposed to fit 2 naps in before 3pm?

Had a nice day today. Took dc to park this morning and met some friends from toddler group there (with friends of dd's that she doesn't see often now that they are all at diff pre-schools), then had playdate over for dd this afternoon who I hadn't met before. Her mum dropped her off and was then going to take big brother (7) to the library, but he discovered the trampoline and playhouse and didn't want to go - he told his mum to just go and choose the sort of books that he likes . He didn't get to stay, but did have another bounce when they came back to pick her up. They were v lovely, so will hopefully do another date with them once we are all back from our times away.

Ajm - I didn't realise your flood was so bad! Hope things get sorted out and the insurance company get you a big fat cheque nice and quickly!

Pistachio - Poo about the Inch Blue. We lose loads of things when we're out and about. We lost the pram blanket my mum knitted for M before she was born and then I lost small angel bunny in M&S. I was gutted about losing small angel bunny because a) she'd only just got it and b) it was gorgeous.

Myjob - Yes for Warwick Castle! Unless something really bad happens! DO you want to swap N for M? I would love a non-crawling baby!

CSWS - That's a very funky bed! I want a new bed. Ours is a huge Ikea job and is really creaky. I want this bed. Mmmmmmmmm

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/08/2009 22:31

Ah yes mm - we have one of these in our spare room. Extra storage space is very handy!

MM I dont get stroppy, I'll have you know

Just a quick one to say hello. Off to bed but wanted to catch up.
Can anyone remind me of the website to lookup for info on drugs and breast feeding??
