Rachie - Q has been protesting nappy changes anywhere for about a month now. He screams and throws a tantrum every single time. I get really stressed when we're out but I'm at the point now where I just ignore it, really . I've tried giving him a wipe, a coin anything ... he just won't give in. Twists and turns and fights it and SCREAMS. I just keep turning him onto his back and clean him up/put new nappy on and try to ignore screaming so it can get done as quickly as possible. I know that makes me seem horrible.. but I know if I pick him up or try to soothe him, it just further infuriates him until he's not having his nappy changed - and it's not an option not to wear a nappy in public... I'm probably speaking nonsense... but it's what I'm doing now. He used to happily play with a wipe. Not anymore.

Myjob those dungarees are so cute! But yes, expensive.

MM cute M in the teddy bear's picnic photo Oops, just realized I'm only on pg 25 of 26...

star6 · 06/08/2009 19:21

HMM Q stands unaided, too. He's SOO delicate and careful about it, though. lowers himself down... then back up - like he's doing squats at the gym. he really concentrates.
re discipline, not sure what you mean?
We tell Q "no" when he's not supposed to touch something, and he tries to still touch it at first, but after a few serious "no"'s, he doesn't try again.... I might be wrong doing that. not sure. But it works. If we're in public and he's headed for something dangerous I can say "no Q" and he stops and comes back to me.

do kids have to wear a uniform in all schools in the UK? At my school kids just wear whatever they want (well, within reason!). It is an International School with strong American influence, but you'd think since we're in Britain they would follow suit

I don't think I've ever seen a photo of you up close before, pistachio. You look very very much like another teacher at DH's school. I thought it was her when I first saw it - I thought, omg, pistachio knows ....

oh, and do people pay for preschool in the UK or is it a part of state funded education? I'll be sending letters asking for free tuition for Q to attend my school (the policy is very up in the air and individually decided when it comes to children of faculty), but just wondering.

Star - sounds like Q is a model child! When we tell Poppy "no" she completely ignores us! Thanks for the FB advice folks, I just showed DH the thread and he's gonna cut down on the "no's".

I couldn't sleep because of my brother. So gutted that he's being like this. I think it's really cos I didn't choose him to be godfather but he hasn't displayed any interest in Poppy so why should he be the automatic candidate??? (My uncle, who is also my godfather is doing it, he dotes on Poppy and has no kids of his own)

I'm off to get something to eat and watch some telly.

By the way, what car seats have you all gone/ going for? I've just remembered I was gonna get one in the sales...

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/08/2009 21:15

I thought that you had a forward facing carseat already hmm? There was def one in your pics on fb!

Star - the preschool hours already described are for state run schools. If you use a private nursery school (as we do) then you get a bit of money knocked off (£8.50 per half day session at present) your bill, but you still pay. Dd's is quite expensive, but worth every penny IMO.

Brothers are just pants hmm. Mine came to dd's Christening, but wasn't a Godparent, and was the only person at the Christening to not buy dd a present. I was rather tbh.

Off to try and have a quick nose at photos and then going to watch an episode of house before bed. Am even having a glass of wine tonight .

Actually....quick question if anyone is around. A friend of mine has really pissed me off. We worked together before I quite my job and we stayed in touch via FB after I left. I was one of the first people she told when she found out she was pregnant and we joked that it could be funny if I got pregnant as we could go through it together. So when I found out a week later that I was pregnant, she was one of the first people I told. Our girls were born 5 days apart, we went to her Christening and she came to M's Baby naming. I have arranged a small party for M with just the babies of a similar age from the group our group of friends. I told her the date, she said all fine. Today she has told me that she has had another invite to a 1st birthday party from someone at her postnatal baby group so can't come to M's party or would only be able to stay for a short while because she has this other party to go to. Now should I just tell her to f off or be gracious and say just come for a short while? I really want to tell her to f off!

Tempted to agree with your first feeling

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/08/2009 22:27

Tell her to come for a short while. It's hard when your loyalties are split between 2 groups of friends .

pistachio - it's a nursery school that just takes children from 2-5, and it is utterly wonderful (and has an outstanding from ofsted if you're into that kind of thing). The village pre-school wouldn't have taken dd as early as she 'needed', and only offers mornings, and only on some days of the week until she is nearly 4. And the other village school has a shite rep.

ronshar · 06/08/2009 22:28

MM, you will look a bit funny in those coats. Ted Baker make lovely little duffle coats for boys. I have got one for W in the sale, back in January. Why are boys clothes so boring?

Star, it sounds like youare doing a fab job. W looks back at me, then laughs and then carries on as before!! Also nappy changing has entered the battle field of control. I am now at the whole body pin down with my upper body, while applying the clean nappy. Fun.

Pistachio. Well done. I am now at 4.5kg each side for back track but mostly 3kg for most others.

HMM, you cant pick your family as they say! Dont lose sleep over it. He will realise when he is older that he has missed out on P growing up.

CSWS, cook book looks lovely. You will have to put up some recipes for us when you have tested them.

Jenwa. You will be fine. One day at a time. Lets face it you are quite fortunate not being able to hear very well, most people talk a load of shite anyway.

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/08/2009 22:37

I've tested one today ronshar. Chocolate and peanut cupcakes (made with butternut squash). Icing is particularly yummy!
Will be making a coconut cake (with courgette) tomorrow evening ready for in-laws and dh's aunt/uncle on Sat morning.

What are the dunagarees that you've all been on about. Too many links lately to search through!

ronshar - I thought that boys clothes would be boring, but actually quite like them since discovering rainbowbabies. And like that I won't have to worry about him suddenly refusing to wear trousers in favour of twirly skirts or dresses!
