daisydora · 04/08/2009 20:58

oohh I'd love to come to London & meet you all! Who knows maybe when my redundancy money comes I can make the next one!

artichokes · 04/08/2009 21:01

LadyT - I am in Wales next week which I am gutted about as I will miss the meet-up (and be stuck in a tiny house watching the rain with the outlaws).

Can I offer a different take on the Zoe Ball story? It might cheer you up. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries as a teen. My OBGYN (I lived in the US) said I would need clomid to conceive. Sooo, 10 years down the line and DH and I are thinking about when me might have kids. I tell him I will need drugs. GP tells me I need to try for a year before I get a referral for the drugs. We start "trying" as we really want to try in 18 months time. Nine months later DD1 is born! Fast forward another 18 months and we wonder about DC2. I point out that our last conception was probably a freak of nature and we might need treatment this time. We start "trying" again with no great hope. 10 months later DD2 is born . You were lucky the first time and may well be again. However, it is sensible to consider how you will feel if it does take ages and you know you delayed it in anticipation of a quick BFP. Whatever you decide I wish you luck.

notjustanumber · 04/08/2009 21:10

I just fell over the stair gate and put a hole in the wall. I am seriously having an amusing evening. I think getting some proper sleep has made me giddy !

I had a coil put in once. It wasnt that great and kind of . This was before we had kids, when I was only 22. The string was a bit scratchy too.

I would love to come to the London meet but i am supposed to be at work, and have had a lot of hol so might have to give it a miss before my manager shouts at me. I'll check the thread to see if you have any details finalised and give it some thought.

Hope it goes well tomorrow, Daisy.

traceface · 04/08/2009 21:26

after a big feed at 7pm, P has just woken for a big scream but has settled after only 10 minutes of dh patting her . I must keep this up all night. I must. It will be worth it. I am not breaking her. She is not hungry. I will be a better mummy to both my girls if I sleep at night. I can do this.
There.
Box of delights! "A phoenix! I've really seen a phoenix!" I LOVED it!
I feel this could lead to a "do you remember?" of old kid's programmes....dungeons and dragons? The mysterious cities of Gold? Round the World in 8o days with Willy Fog? Dogtanion and the Muskerhounds?!!!! In fact thinking of these could be a very good distraction technique during the next cry-athon!

artichokes · 04/08/2009 21:31

I LOVED Dogtanion Trace. And Cities of Gold.
Glad the settling is going well tonight. Good luck. I am crossing my fingers for you xx

notjustanumber · 04/08/2009 21:37

Thinking of you trace. And reminding you of Jonny Briggs, Odyseuss, and Tales from Fat Tulip. Oh, and Trapdoor..BTW what happened at the end of Mysterious cities of Gold ?

notjustanumber · 04/08/2009 21:38

And Silas. We hated it, but watched it anyway and were oddly transfixed by the really bad dubbing.

SummerLightning · 04/08/2009 21:43

For some reason I was totally OBSESSED with Odysseus as narrated by Tony Robinson, njan...never went on to study Greek Mythology or anything though.
Trapdoor, that's on telly sometimes now, DH recorded it once and an episode lasts literally 5 minutes! It's really funny though!
Anyone remember Battle of the Planets? that was me and my brothers favourite, but when we played it I always had to be the girl, and the girl wasn't the best one.
dungeons and dragons was also a MASSIVE favourite, trace!

SummerLightning · 04/08/2009 21:47

trace forgot to say sounds like the sleep training is going really well....I have my fingers crossed for you for tonight.

I do agree re daisy being lucky re her DH agreeing to the snip but it does sound like he is milking it daisy!! I think the thought of it is worse than the actual thing, men don't like the idea AT ALL of any messing with their bits do they? DH asked what we would do for contraception when we had finished having kids, and I just made a scissor sign with my fingers. He winced and pulled a face! We haven't had a serious discussion about it yet! But we will probably have another so no need just yet.

zoejeanne · 04/08/2009 22:28

Hi everyone, how are you all? Had a very weird occurrence today, I was just thinking teething and hoping that the magical appearance of Kayz DS2?s teeth without any hassle was standard for Yorkshire babies. And then tonight I found a tooth in DD?s mouth, without any hassle. I feel very lucky and pleased its not bothered E, fingers crossed the rest are as easy ? And my other big news is that on Saturday night I wore a normal bra , I loved it ? and the lewd comments that came along with the low cut top I wore to display by bulging beauties . Being a fried egg girly when not BF-ing, I revelled in the novelty of being able to be a bit of a tart for once

I love sloe gin Effie, so you?ve reminded me to check the hedges round here. One year I went crazy picking the sloes, so we made sloe gin, sloe vodka, sloe sherry, sloe port, sloe sparkling wine ? all were yummy

Veggie what a shame you?ll miss lots of your lovely vegetables while you?re on holiday. My parents have sold their house and are hoping to move this month ? instead of being sad they are leaving the family home to downsize, they are sad that they will miss most of the plums, tomatoes, apples, potatoes, etc and keep telling me they hope the buyers will enjoy them and not waste them

Hurrah for the work (or no work) solution Daisy . I hope your DH isn?t too sore tomorrow (and moaning too much after the op)

I would love a meet up in Bettys, the cakes are to die for, but I think it would have to be sans enfants ? definitely the sort of place where children should be seen and not heard (and DD loves to be heard). Veggie DIG is supposed to be great fun, worth a phone call before as they do guided tours for the children, with digging for archaeological treats in sandpits, which I?m sure your DS1 would love

Verso hope your back and head are feeling better? When do you start your new job? Good luck!

Hi Kiwi, welcome to the thread. I?ve seen your name elsewhere on MN, so its great you?ve joined us. What a scary start to DD?s life, but I?m very pleased to hear she?s so much better now. Do you have any other children? I have a DD (born on Dec 22nd), she?s our first. She?s not sitting yet, or crawling, or standing ? but she does love to swim or skydive on her belly on the floor for hours. And thanks for the AB?s tip, they often give me a dodgy tummy so I bet that?s why, will remember that in future

What a bummer about your work LadyT, I hope something great comes up for you. I also didn?t want to chuck my toys out of the pram, but have just discovered that my boss has left so am quite tempted to now. I can do extra chucking on your behalf, if you?d like?

I want a Russian doll cake Arti, my birthday is in February, so you?ll have mastered in by then

I?m so glad to hear that the nights are improving Trace and that P isn?t missing the boob too much. I?m sorry, but I giggled at your DH just quietening her down, and then sneezing and upsetting her again. E hates it when I sneeze and gives me a very angry look, however she is very amused by her own sneezes. Dogtanion ? LOVED it! Can I add Count Duckula? Keep the programmes coming ? actually, hopefully you?ll have such a good night that you won?t have time to think of anymore as you?ll be snoozing away. I have my fingers crossed for you, and as Nanny Anne would say ?this too shall pass?

That conversation with your DH sounds worringly familiar NJAN

Is anyone still having problems with cradle cap? We?d nearly got rid of DD?s, but its come back with a vengeance. We?re shampooing with Detinox every other night, and then oiling and brushing her head. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I?ve been watching Property Snakes and Ladders as I catch up, as I?m a bit of a Sarah B fan (but not as big a fan as I am of Kirstie and Phil, I have a crush on both of them, but in different ways ). Sarah owns a (huge) house near us and friends live in the same village, their DS is friends with her nephew so at local social do?s Sarah greets them with a kiss. As a country bumpkin this is seriously exciting, being famous by association ? And apparently Robbie Williams looked at that house before Sarah bought it

OK, have lots of washing up to do before bedtime (and G&B maya gold wrappers to dispose of ? also just 99p in Tesco), night night everyone x

Kayzr · 05/08/2009 07:20

Morning.

Still got this headache.

Zoe glad E's not bothered by teeth. I love Count Duckula. I haven't seen it in years though. What about Herb Garden and Parsley the lion?

I love L,L,L so looking forward to that tonight. We need another series of Grand Designs. I love that too.

Hope everyone is well.

SummerLightning · 05/08/2009 09:28

Morning everyone (yawn)
Just a question does anyone here have problems with insomnia? I seem to get it about once or twice a week and I literally only sleep 1-2 hrs in the night. It's really annoying, as DS is inevitably asleep!
Basically it's like my body doesn't know how to get to sleep any more unless I'm really tired. So if I have a good night's sleep I can't sleep the next night. I've cut out caffiene in the evenings and more than a glass or so of alcohol and that has helped, but I really want it to fix itself properly (especially before i go back to work!) Anyone had similar and are you still having it?

spiggy · 05/08/2009 09:35

I loved Cities of Gold and Dogtanian. Button Moon was fab as well, I keep meaning to see if I can get it on DVD for DS.

Hello Kiwi I only started posting recently but it feels like I've been here forever now.

I love L,L,L especially when K gets cross when the people are unreasonable

Good news from the Spiggy house- that annoying bit of flab hanging over the waistband of my trousers has gone. Bad news is that it has gone because I've spent the last 48 hours unable to eat without throwing up. Urgh.

Off to read the contracts for our house today fingers crossed that we shall be moving either next week or the week after!

Kayzr hope you find a way of shifting the headache soon. Have you tried a hot water bottle on the back of your neck? I find that helps when I have a headache that won't shift with pills.

Right, if I am to leave the house today I need to eat something. Wish me luck.

artichokes · 05/08/2009 09:36

Gah. Terrible night. Not the DDs' fault though. DH got his hand stuck in a large jar of jam . The stupid man was going for a minute snack . Nothing but nothing would get it off. We tried EVERYTHING for hours. In the end he had to sleep with it on there but I think it was restricting the blood flow because it started to swell up. In the end he left for A&E at 4.30am and I finally got some sleep. until 5.40am when DD2 rose for the day (that is her standard rising time now). Yawn.

I also realised what a spoiled brat I sounded yesterday when I was going on about seven whole weeks without a nanny. I am not sure the self-depricating irony rang through the type face. I was being half humourous. I do appreciate that looking after two children with no nanny is totally normal life for most mums. Of course it is for me most of the time. Its just that I am used to three days a week when DD1 is being entertained by someone else and I can concentrate on DD2. Its just like being used to your child going to nursery, or school, its a shock when it ends. Please don't think I am a moaning, hands-off princess.

Right, off for more coffee and to try and jolly myself into a better mood. We are off to Hampstead Heath to swim in the swimming ponds (well DD1 and I are, DD2 is just going to watch).

spiggy · 05/08/2009 09:52

sorry arti but I just pmsl at the thought of you DH with his hand stuck in a jar of jam. Isn't it supposed to be the DCs who do that sort of thing?! Has he recoved now? How did A&E get it off?

SL I get very bad insomnia when pg and the only thing I've found that helps is moving to another bed when I wake up. not sure why but it seems to help me settle back down. When pg with DD we didn't have a spare bed so I ended up building what DP referred to as my nest- a big pile of duvets on the floor which I would take myself off to at 2am when I couldn't get back to sleep Hope you find an easier solution than that!

jumpjockey · 05/08/2009 09:55

waah Arti, shouldn't laugh but the idea of a grown man getting his hand stuck in a jam jar is making me Glad it's all sorted now. Re nanny, well of course if it's what you're used to it will be a big change, and 7 weeks is a long time! Are there any nearby family who can help out? Hope you have a lovely swim, swimming ponds sounds wonderful

SL re insomnia - mug of cocoa at bedtime?! I find that if I'm awake, reading a not very gripping book helps me nod off - the eyes half shut thing takes over and then the rest of me follows.

spiggy eek to illness, hope you're on the mend soon. But to losing the baby tum!

zj yay for the painfree tooth! That's pretty miraculous. And fingers crossed for your DH today ;) I'd have told DH I would use the new tooth to chop the cords [evil cackle]

LLL is one of my secret guilty pleasures, that and Kevin on Grand Designs. Whenever DH comes in a finds me watching past episodes on E4 there's a huge sigh of disappointment I do have a bit of a thing for Kevin, even if he's so totally predictable. Just before the halfway ad break "They've made some very ambitious plans, but will the glass staircase/ walls of straw/ helicopter landing pad on the roof/ water heated by little elves on treadmills really come together by the moving in date in 3 weeks?" and then the 'touching' bit at the end where he knew their faith in 'the build' would bring them through. I did love it that on one of the revisit things a guy who'd built a total bachelor pad had got a girlfriend and had to move out to a normal home! [schadenfreude]

Well night 2 of our grand NCSS, a brief waking at 12.30 for a feed to sleep, up at 4.45 [yawn] and after half an hour she was still wanting to play so I left her to it and after about another 15 mins everything went quiet and she woke up for the day at 7.30 . So we're gradually getting there, maybe?!

laundry to hang, washing up to do, porridge to chip off the high chair - it's so glam, this motherhood lark... catch you all later my lovelies

SummerLightning · 05/08/2009 10:03

zj hurray for the tooth. Still no teeth here. Am also hoping for magical appearances.

I have put LLL on record for tonight!

arti you didn't sound spoilt at all...Am in awe of anyone with 2 anyway

jj that sounds like a good night! I do ignore DS if he wakes before 7 and isn't hungry. He usually drops back off, but then he doesn't really cry just plays around, if he was crying I would find it harder to ignore. Not looking forward to the standing up in cot phase as I imagine that will cause trouble!

Re cocoa, I am a very unfussy eater, but the ONE thing I can't drink without feeling sick is milk especially hot milk. So don't think I could do that. Maybe a herbal tea might help?....hmmm. spiggy yep I also move to another bed. It helps me cos I can toss and turn without worrying about waking DH. Crap book is a good idea. Any recommendations?? . Maybe some James Joyce or something similarly riduculously hard going!!?

SummerLightning · 05/08/2009 10:06

(oh and I know that there are some literary people on here...I am not saying that James Joyce is crap....just high maintenance!)

Kayzr · 05/08/2009 10:09

Arti your poor DH. I did have a giggle though. I don't think you sound spoilt at all. You are used to having a nanny so not having one must be hard.

TheInvisibleHand · 05/08/2009 10:28

arti - as one who is used a nanny (and I realise very fortunately had one while I was on ML) you did not sound spoiled at all - its all a case of what you are used to! Hope you're all recovered from the night's adventures - enjoy the Heath!

Yay to those with better nights!

LadyT - very kind of you to think of me for the meetup! I would love to meet some of you, but you are right that I am back at work. Actually, if the meetup is at RFH, its almost within striking distance from my office - it would be very tempting to pop out for a bit. I'll see what I can do. Would be without DCs though .

KiwiPanda · 05/08/2009 10:53

Morning all! What a busy thread this is! I would love to come to the London meet up, will check the details in a sec. I just took DD for her first swimming lesson, she seemed to really love it. She was so knocked out by it (and by an early start) that she fell asleep facing outwards in the BabyBjorn on the way home and didn't even wake up when I transferred her to her cot!= [miracle emoticon]

I, however, have a hangover from my NCT girls night out. I swear I only had 3 glasses of wine AND a three course meal which must have absorbed a lot of it?? Well I hope so , otherwise DD will have a hangover too... oops.

artichokes sorry but that is HILARIOUS, is your DH actually about 4?? Mind you it's exactly the sort of thing my DH would do. He is endless injuring himself by tripping over his own feet or whacking himself around the head or something.

pmk1 · 05/08/2009 10:59

Oh Arti, that was positively priceless!!! I would have been pmsl if I were you however it probably wasn't that funny at 2am!! Which A&E? (dh was working lol) and how on earth did he get there? I have visions of your dh driving one handed and trying to change gears with a jam jar stuck on his hand lmao!
Don't think you are stuck up at all - I'm also in awe of those with 2 LO plus not to mention working on top of that, never the less we are officially "trying" now we'll see.. hope it's as easy as last time now that i've decided
Summer - I have been a big insomniac in the past.... Only thing was red wine before bed and and tv in bed

daisydora · 05/08/2009 13:18

pmsl at arti's DH!!! That has really made me laugh....

SummerLightning · 05/08/2009 18:06

where is spot? She has not been on for ages. Is she away?

daisydora · 05/08/2009 18:22

Well, Mr Daisy has been de-seeded -official

He is currently laid on sofa feet up, whimpering, asking for tea/biscuits/painkillers/couple of beers in the fridge love . I suspect it might be a long evening.

Have just had to bath both DC's get them ready for bed with my sore knee which is killing me. I tried to get in the Dr's this afternoon but nothing free, so I will try again tomorrow. I need something stronger than paracetemol & IB's, they don't even touch the pain.
