Cheers yorky I got myself out of the house and went to my friends. I feel so much better.
I am just not made for staying in all day!

Autumlady Mine is a velcro baby even when perfectly healthy.
I am not so sure it is cute when he is clawing at my face in desperation. For what I never know, putting him down makes him howl, cuddling him makes him squirm.
I am still at, leaving him with toys and running orf! He is totally fine as long as he can;t see me.
So I peek round the door to check he is ok, and these days, where he is!
If he catches sight iof me he starts to head in my direction shouting

Not meant in a bad way, sometimes he is sooo cute, cuddling in and all but when you just can't please him it is maddening and frustrating

LatinDAISYcal · 21/09/2009 19:01

great website twinkling

I'm intrigued about the fingerprints......as an option for getting custom from further afield, can you get people to do their own prints, say take an impression in air drying modelling clay and then send it to you? Or would that not give enough definition? Or can you send whatever you use to take the fingerprints out ot people for them to take the print and then send back?

I'm only asking because I would love one of those

Yorky · 21/09/2009 19:44

Daisy - I have a bracelet with fingerprints on charms. I love it. We did it by post - they sent us little pea sized bits of plasticine-y stuff ans we mixed 2 colours then pressed DCs fingertip into it, left it to set for a few minutes and posted it back. Easy, and so effective
Nice site Twink, wonder if DS would like a pinny for helping me cook? He loves playing in the kitchen but I don't think I even own an apron! And DH has major problems with kids wearing dpm
Glad you feel better after going to your friends'

Hi ladies

Just a quick one sorry a bit me post.

Had Becca development check. She weighs 19lb 15oz, doing everything she should but she says she thinks there is a problem with her hips? Her leg creases are not right and when she stands her leg sticks out to much like she is standing with her legs apart. Do you have any experience of this?

Twink and Ob sorry your having a hard time.

AL don't be sad about your Audi you have something much much more precious he was asleep watching night garden x

Right must iron then bed!

AutumnLady · 21/09/2009 20:30

aww thanks coolkat he really is precious having a few sleep ishoos which is down to a mixture of teething and chickenpox but my parents have just taken him off in the car as that always works a treat! I have been doing to soothe and leave routine for 1 hr 30 mins and am knackered! Normally he's brill but 'this too shall pass' [hoping emoticon]

twink - i too am interested in your fingerprint thingies and thanks for reassuring me that I'm not the only one with a velcro child!!

Lacks - cool website, where do you get the time/energy/idea's?????

twinklingfairy · 21/09/2009 20:52

Hmm, I am not really sure how I would go about doing it by post. I really need the finger to put into the material.
I am sitting here thinking about it though
I wonder if I sent down some of the material in a wee sealed bag, if it would stay wet enough for you to take a print. Then leave it to dry and I could get you to send it back inbetween bubble wrap and wee bits of cardboard?
Hmm, Worth trying anyway.

Other than that I am experimenting with paperprints that get sealed into a silver oval?
Hard to describe. Maybe watch this space and I will let you know when I have images.

In the meantime feel free to contact me re aprons, comforters and bunting.
I am trying to make the mummy and daughter aprons but my sewing machine has packed in So off to dads it goes, he is the master at fixing sewing machines. My mum has been sewing for about 35years now. She made my wedding dress! And all the bridesmaids dresses (3 of them) Then she decided we all needed cream velvet cloaks. So she just threw 4 together!
It was all just so special.
then she got bored of sewing so she made my DHs kilt socks!!

Oh lordy AL I have been there! I tried to soothe and leave J for 2 hours once, gave up in the end and just went to bed with him!
That was a few months ago now. I have to say he goes down a dream now
He pulled himself up at the couch today! And has totally mastered getting from tum to bum now, what a relief.

AFingerofFudge · 21/09/2009 22:13

Evening all

Can stick my oar in about baby signing?? I used to sign with DS1. He is 10 now. It worked a real treat and really helped our communication, as he didn't learn to talk particularly early. I used to do things like milk, food, water, more and "all gone". More and all gone were the best signs going. For instance, more was really handy not just for food, but for when we played any sort of game or sang a song with him, he used to regularly sign more. The all gone sign we started using only for at the end of a meal, but then one day we went to a mother and baby group and there was a big art display which looked completely innocuous (sp?) to me, but he started to back away from it signing "all gone" as he did- it had scared him. He learnt for himself to use this sign when he was in a situation he didn't like.
Having said that, DS2 didn't use it that often and although the bit he did was useful for a time, he began to talk and then stopped signing quite quickly.

Hmm, M is unfortunately not likely to be a prolific signer, as I keep forgetting to sign with him

twinkling I like the site, and funnily enough over this last weekend I have been doing some research into where to get one of those fingerprint necklaces from.

DW is there really a car called a Pube?? That is tooooo funny.

lacks (or latin?) clever Bumble standing on his own - we haven't managed crawling yet here.

obs sorry to hear you're not feeling great at the moment. Is it worth trying to get put on different medication? I don't really know a lot about AD's ( not gloating, just a there but for the grace of god situation..) but I wonder if certain ones work better for some people??

Can I do the boring mummy boasting about her child bit pleeeeaasse???
thanks
I was in the garden hanging out the washing this morning, and M was in his entertainment thingy in the living room looking out the back window at me. I kept stopping and waving to him.... and then he waved back - the first wave!!! Was so proud I nearly phoned DH at work to tell him. (DH is one of those guys who hates me phoning him at work so I restrained myself.)
ooh I love my Mally!!!

LadyBuzz · 22/09/2009 09:28

Twinks love your website, the fingerprints are so lovely. I might need some bunting when we move for the boys bedrooms - IF we ever move!

autum hope J is feeling a litle better and you are getting some sleep.

Obs hugs to you hope you get sorted, I know how the anger can make you feel, thankfully the ADs I am on seem to have helped with that.

FOF well done M what a star.

Coolkat have you been refferred with Beccas legs? I had hip problems as a baby but can't shed much light for you i'm afraid.

We are having to move Nurserys for DS1, they have messed us about so much over the last couple of months and now all the staff seem to be jumping ship so we are taking him out now before it all folds. I've got a meeting at a new nursery in the morning - fingers crossed its good as it is the only 1 that has a baby place for J and I go back to work in 5 weeks!

Tinkerisdead · 22/09/2009 09:44

Morning all,

coolkat any monday except the 19th I can do. Completely understand the worry when the doc says there is something amiss with your precious baby. dont google it like I did or you'll feel worse! post a thread in childrens health if you havent done already.

sorry to all those having a shit time esp obs you sound really down down. really hope the AD's start working for you.

had a hellish hellish helish day and night yesterday. DD must be teething and she has red cheeks, streaming nose and worst nappy rash, everytime she has a wee she screams hysterically! She never sleeps anyway but last night was just a joke. Absolute hysteria and demanding only me. It was the first time she's ended up in our bed, it was like sleeping with a sheepdog herding me round the bed!

The hospital cancelled DD's eye appointment and moved it back 3 weeks to the exact same clinic/time/hospital everything. Im fuming. called the GP who advised the only way to be seen quicker is to go private. All the private hospitals around wont treat a 10 month old but one consultant told me to bring her in, he'll have a look, do a diagnosis and re-refer me back in to the nhs to a specialist eye hospital if need be. Its 150.00 for the appointment but i just cannot wait any longer as not knowing whats wrong is making me sick with worry.

Right off to look at twinklings site and to rescue DD who is brushing her hair with a dustpan brush

twinklingfairy · 22/09/2009 17:07

Oh Thanks you guys for your feedback on my website.
I thought it was a bit poo really. I made it myself.
I was not sure about the silver pics especially, so pleased that you have all liked them

Poor you docswife Poor DD more so
Annoying that they have knocked her appointment back 3 weeks!
What has happened to her eye, if you don't mind retelling the story? I have lost track, with not having the computer.
Crying when weeing, that sounds like some nappy rash, you sure it is not something else? A urine infection or something. I hate to add worries, but maybe I have just been lucky that my two haven't had it that bad.
Saying that, Js is a bit horrid at the mo and worse than DDs ever got.

Tinkerisdead · 22/09/2009 19:56

Its def nappy rash, sore labia poor little thing, shes much better today though metanium with zinc and castor oil cream and its nearly healed.

my DD had white eye in some photos and i'd seen on MN that it was sometimes a cause for real concern. Took her to the GP and they have noticed that an area on her retina is "different" to the rest of her eye and this is showing white instead of a red eye reaction that you would normally get if a flash went off. I stupidly googled it and looked at tales her on mumsnet and saw it can be a sign of retino blastoma a form of eye cancer...and well... shat my pants to put it politely some of the ladies on here saw my thread and talked some sense into me. however, thats why i wont wait another three weeks to find out whats wrong with her eye..if anything at all is wrong of course.

oh and twinkling, you site looks really really nice, even more impressed you did it yourself

LatinDAISYcal · 22/09/2009 20:18

that's a bugger about DD's eye appointment DW. Ouch at the nappy rash.

Try egg white on it. whip up a cold egg white until opaque and frothy and dab on gently with your fingers and keep nappy off until it dries in. If you make sure not to double dip you can keep it in the fridge for use till the rash has gone; just whip it up a little before each use. It is an old wives remedy, but it really does work as it forms a barrier, is nice and cool, and more importantly doesn't sting like creams can. DS1 was bleeding and raw one time; egg white was put on befire he went to bed and in the morning he was only red, one more application and it had almost gone! I always use it on really bad nappy rash now rather than creams.

Tinkerisdead · 22/09/2009 20:34

righto, whipping egg whites here i come...hmmmm meringues with any left overs he he

LatinDAISYcal · 22/09/2009 21:19

just make sure you haven't got bottomy fingers in the mix, lol

MummyNic · 22/09/2009 21:49

Note to self: Don't accept any Pavlova from DW, especially if it has chocolate sprinkles...

So sorry to hear about you DD's eye, must be a frightening time for you. I hope you get the private appointment quickly. God the NHS makes me mad at times.

MummyNic · 22/09/2009 21:59

Oh, someone mentioned carseats. This is the one I got for J..

www.lilimay.com/car-seats/kiddy/infinity-pro.php

It's 'better' than a 5 point harness one as his body will move, not just his neck, in the event of an accident. It's Which?'s best buy and has taken the car seat world by storm.

Having a 3-dr sports car a rear facing seat was no longer an otion, this is the safest forward facing one - and not badly priced either.

Amazingly easy to use too - no struggling with the bits of a harness - I love it - J seems to too - he has more freedom in the topd half of his body compared with his old 5 point rear facing one.

suiledonn · 22/09/2009 22:31

mummynic I saw something about those car seats before and I like the idea. How does a smaller child look sitting in it. Is the front cushion very high?

DW Hope your dd's eye thing turns out to be nothing to worry about. Thinking positive thoughts for you.

daisy and twinkling Well done on the websites. Both are looking good.

obs Hope things start to come right for you soon.

Amy is crawling now and trying to pull up at the furniture. I have to watch her every second of the day.
She has LOADS of teeth, including some big back ones that have caused misery as they were coming through. DD1 got her teeth much later and we never noticed a thing. Amy is suffering more on each one that comes.

Weight question Is Amy one of the lightest babies? She is almost 19lbs. I notice the others seem to be bigger or is that just the boys as I think they are normally bigger at this age? Not worried about her - she has a good appetite and is full of energy but it is interesting to see how much babies the same age can vary.

LatinDAISYcal · 22/09/2009 23:33

fudge, it is lacks....I'm in my strictly sequinned hanky for a bit

A friend of ours has one of those seats and raves about it.

Obs, lovely. I hope things are ok; you sounded so down . Are you actually taking ADs? if not, just because one didn't work for you doesn't mean another one wont! Maybe talk things over again? Ask your HV if they have a MH nurse you can talk to. Maybe Leeds is just a nutty place, but we have a MH nurse who is attached to the HV team; she is fantastic for when things are getting tough.

coolkat, missed your post about becca's hips. DD had wonky creases, but all her physical checks have been normal (she never had a scan as they decided it wasn't necessary), although she now has issues with in-toeing (she falls over her own feet about a gazillion times a day!) but they are confident it will resolve and there is nothing else going on. We have to take her back though as I think it's getting worse.

snort at chocolate sprinkles

I had a horrible afternoon; DD challenging everything at the minute, bumble cranky and miserable (wants up; get up, struggles and wants down, howls when put down ) and then when I was trying to feed him before bedtime I took my eye off him for a second, and he came off then nipped my nip really hard and twisted and wouldn't let go . So I screamed and smacked his hand . He wouldn't look at me afterwards without crying . I had been feeling brilliant, and then one bad day seems to knock it all back.

buuuut, have sold some more stuff on ebay and through the netmums local site and crucially made my first nappy sale . Need to do some hardcore marketing next......

Tinkerisdead · 23/09/2009 09:40

yeaaaah on selling more stuff daisy.
That Car seat sounds fab MummyNic, Ive just forked out a fortune for the maxicosi Priorifix as our cars have isofix. Its a huge difference in price for that compared to the noarmal prioriXP.

suiledonn My DD is ten months this week and she weighs about 23/24lbs. I say "about" because i refuse to take her to my penis foreheaded HV and so I weigh her on my friends excellent scales. Buuuut, my friend has a 13 month old who weighs 19lb and my other friend has a 19 month old who weighs 21lb. My DD was actually down on the 9th centile at around 6 months and shes caught up fast but I wouldnt compare as they are all so different. Mine is a big chunk and walking, theirs are feather light and barely moving. So so different.

I need some serious serious advice actually before I post on the main boards. ive done the age old stupid thing where I held DD to get her to sleep as she was so colicky and basically a nightmare in the early days. Now i'm stuck with a limpet! She has to be held to go to sleep, wait til shes asleep and gingerly put her down in the cot. if she wakes the cycle starts again, holding shusshing, gingerly lay in the cot.

now as ive said, she's a chunky monkey now and I just cant hold her and lay her down delicately enough. so how do i fix this? I tried one night of pick and put down and at 2am after 7 hours i just gave up as i was exhuasted and she was hysterical. help me!!

PinkyMinxy · 23/09/2009 11:13

Hi all
well done Daisy on the sales! You have inspired me and actually put some thigns up on ebay last night!

Drswife does your cot have a drop side? If you can get an arm into the cot so you can sort of cradle her whilst she is in the cot? We had to rock DD1 to sleep most of the time if she didn't fall asleep feeding- DH was better at it later on because he had the rightjiggle/rock combo. She did grow out of it and became accustomed to beign stroked and sung to in her cot instead, but it took a bit of time. Does she just scream if you put her down even v.sleepy? DD1 used to do that. I could leave DS he would cry for about 5 mins then sleep but DD1 would just get in a tizz. I wonder if a warm teddy or somesuch might help (not sure if hot water bottles should be advised, but you can get those barley bear type things). Someone may have better advice, but I would suggest small steps -move to singing whilst rocking, and jiggling a bit so it's not so 'gentle' IYSWIM, that way she won't be too disturbed when you put her down.

Got to go mimi has woken up!

PinkyMinxy · 23/09/2009 11:14

BTW it's not stupid, it's quite normal

Tinkerisdead · 23/09/2009 11:44

Hmmm cot does have drop side but she crawls to me climbing out or clinging to me. When we hold her we keep really quiet and still, she drops off stroking or pinching your skin

we then put her down once shes asleep. if she stirs and realises your gone she goes beserk. If i put her down awake she gets hysterical or climbs and jumps about the cot.

surprisingly when in our bed, she didnt want to be cuddled and did lie down nicely. this morning ive tried lying her next to be stroking her hair, its half worked in that she'll lie down and not fight it but wouldnt fall asleep and cried if i moved my hand. not sure whether to keep trying this way. everyone else says controlled crying is the only answer but i just cant. she cries til she is sick and just doesnt wear herself out. but i need a clear idea of what im doing cos i fall back on holding her.

PinkyMinxy · 23/09/2009 13:11

I don't really 'do' controlled crying, but as far as I'm aware those that do advocate it would not recommend it under 12 months. TBH if she is settling with yuo next to her, just try giving it a good 10-20 mins sitting with her before you move, once she seems to be asleep, as she may not be completely asleep. It sounds like a pain but if you move too quickly you just end up having to start all over again. I know it is very frustrating. I love my children dearly but at the end of the day I need them to go to sleep! But honestly it will get better. DD1 likes a little song, her minky and her bedside light on and that is usually enough. Some babies just need a bit more time before they are ready to settle themselves.
Perhaps someone will be on in a bit with a more stringent method!
Speakign of taking their time, Mimi has just started moving forwards! lol, DD1 is now realising that nothing is safe.

chocolategal · 23/09/2009 16:37

Hi Ladies

Not posted for a while but been lurking.
drswife how is the eggwhite trick working? If its any consolation on the sleep thing, i used to let my DS fall asleep in my arms or being rocked, now he will go in his cot but he has to be really sleepy and if i stay near he goes to sleep himself sucking on his blanket! If he isnt sleepy then putting him in his cot just makes him wide awake and he stands up and rattles the bars then like you i start all over again!

Great websites twinks and daisy
coolkat sorry to hear about your DD's legs, let us know if you are being referred.

What is everyone getting their LO's for their 1st birthday??
I have been looking at the smart trikes amongst other things, anybody reccomend them?

Hi to everyone else too

Tinkerisdead · 23/09/2009 20:44

Chocolate I used egg white and the last of the rash went, just three scabs where it had evidently blistered, poor mite. thanks for the tip daisy. I have got DD a smart trike for her birthday, used my nectar points in argos and i've got her a wheelybug for xmas.

I feel a bit mean sleep training with her when she is off colour but there will never be a right time, the right time is when I feel like things have to change and last night was it.

My DD is exactly the same choc, she rattles the bars, throws dummy out, and runs back and forth into each end to make it bang, all with crying and hysteria.

twinkling I have to tell you, after you suggested sitting with her earlier today, i just devoted all day to sleep training. she's off colour so lots of sleep cues and i just kept lying her back down stroking her hair etc. At 4pm, she lay down and had a half hour nap. The first time she has ever fallen asleep in her cot!

Dh came home and i told him that I cant take the "holding to sleep" and more. So at 7pm, her usual bedtime she didnt seem sleepy. She had an extra hour quiet play and stories then i took her up to bed. It took 20 minutes of lying her back down and she's off to sleep again. I hope to god it lasts cos she has only ever slept through about 7 times ever. I'm gonna have to keep it up religiously arent I, to avoid mixed signals but I wanted to let you know how successful its been already. Thank you for giving me a clear plan in my head.
