Hi Ladies,
twinks thats awful when something like that happens it really makes you take stock and realise how lucky we all are, hope your DH is ok.
fudge Millie has no interested in standing up at all but she chatters away all day it seems we have gaga mama dada duck and something that sounds very like bugga? I hope not lol. Good luck with your sale
cricri What do you do as work I mean? Its nice to hear how you and E are getting on
yorky glad you had a good sleep last night, I hope you get the same tonight.
DW I hope your DD's eye is ok, I read your thread but know nothing about eyes but I hope you get your appt soon and have a good outcome. It must have been scary when she fell with the toothbrush in her mouth too!
daisy Hope bumble is ok, and hope you get some orders too, you never know.
ladybuzz glad your feeling better after your bug.
pinky book sounds good and daisy is right you always sounds so calm and have words of wisdom to give, if I am anxious I tend to fly off the handle a bit at DD1 so may give it a read as always feel guilty after, but she knows exactly how to get round me which doesnt help.
I was at work on Monday and had an ok day, one of my colleagues I feel undermined me a bit I feel and I was a bit upset and knocked my confidence (not what I need after 11 months off) but have since reflected and I belive I made the right decision, so back next week and will speak to her. Since monday have had a chest cold so has DH and Millie so have felt crap and cant be bothered doing anything but have loads to do and want to get on with it so hope I feel better tomorrow, DH is better and Millie seems better so fingers crossed. Oh was also at the dentist today which I hate but it was ok.

ellielou02 · 17/09/2009 22:07

oops rambled on a bit there

ellielou02 · 17/09/2009 22:10

Lol phee at your DH hair
I had a long birth with DD1 and a very quick and dare I say it easy birth with DD2, so hopefully it will go nicely for you.

Phee96 · 17/09/2009 22:17

Ellielou Thanks, my MW did say that second births tend to be quicker but A's was less than 6 hours from very first twinge to her being born She was born at 11.15pm and at 3pm I had been sat eating lasagne in a cafe. Also, LOL at 'bugga'

Daisy I know it's a bit of a longshot but have you tried, or heard anything about, the Safety 1st Duodeal?

Sorry ofr babbling on so much tonight, DH is out and I can't be bothered to do anything ither than sit on the settee and MN

MummyNic · 17/09/2009 22:27

Hi everyone, remember me?!!! It's been many months since I was last on. I have tried to catch up on several occasions but felt like it was a bit cheeky to post after so long.

A brief catch up:

James is wonderful. He's been sleeping 7 til 6:30 / 7 since 4 months old. He became unsettled at about 5.5 months as he was need ing to be weaned I think, but I waited 'til 6 months.

Still using the GF routine although rather loosely nowadays, he has a 45 min morning nap and a 2 hour afternoon nap.

Weaning went well, again used GF. Giving the protein meal at lunch is crucial I think. I use AK receipies too, to add a bit more variety.

Still BFing, twice a day, morning and evening. He has water from a cup the rest of the time.

J is crawling a great speed!! Started at the end of July. He got his bottom teeth at the same time and on Sunday he cut his top 2!
He started standing about a week after crawling but he isn't walking yet.
No words yet.....

He started clapping during lunch on Tuesday and has done it at every meal since!!! Good food.... :-)

He started holding his blanket up in his puchchair yesterday and lowered it to play peep-po. He did it again today and giggled away.

Our babies are so wonderful and clever. I could never get bored of this!!!!

Sorry I haven't been around, I've had severe PND and it's taken me this long to get over it (except when I'm due on when it comes back - I guess 2 BF a day aren't enough to keep the dreaded 'lady's special week' away!!). Also, our pc broke and took 4 weeks to repair!!!

Love to everyone!!!

Nichola

LackaDAISYcal · 18/09/2009 00:01

Good to hear from you mummynic...I was just thinking about you the other day as I was looking at an old thread and you were on it.

sorry about the PND , it is pretty awful and ikwym about it being worse when you are due on; I'm the same.

J sounds like he is doing really well :0)

phee, haven't heard of that one sorry. I would say get a P&T or the OBaby one. Having tested lots of doubles, the P&T tandem style is definately the best of a bad bunch. downsides are the hood doesn't give great sun coverage and the rear seat is exposed in the sun (although if you have little baby/toddler combo in the summer it'll be better). I still think it's the best one for a toddler and a baby though.

LadyBuzz · 18/09/2009 09:11

Twink awful news, love to yo and your DH.

Mummynic good to 'see' you. Glad you are doing well.

Daisy hope Bumble is ok after his tumble

Pinky hello, its good that you are working through things. You should be proud of yourself.

Ellie glad work went well.

Phee I looked at the duodeal and thought it looked quite good and very cosy for the baby. I have had a duet lite and a bebekins aroo which are both the more compact tandems. I HATED them both with a passion. I like Daisy would recommend the P&T or the OBaby Xi. Its my 4th double and by far the best designed IMO.

J is currently cruising round the furniture standing on the bottom of his pants and pulling them further and further down - bless him!

Hi to everyone else

twinklingfairy · 18/09/2009 09:26

Morning
oh how I have missed keeping up with you all.

Here is my run down on Js progress cos I am enjoying reading all yours.

He is sleeping sooo much better. Yesterday he slept through!! 630-7!
Not to be repeated in any great hurry though, I saw him 330-4 last night and he was awake by 6. Though I fed him and we went back to sleep til 8, hurrah!

He is commando crawling, something I thought he would skip in prefereance to walking, all he wants to do is stand. Preferably on my lap, clawing at my face
I think he wants to merge back into me at times

Teething. He had one coming through on the bottom which he struggled with, swiftly followed by 2 on top. All have broken thrugh now but still the 3am wake up calls for the teething gel, which you inevitably can't find
So much for his amber necklace, which catches lots of attention but does not seem to be helping him with the pain

No babbling here really, just popping which he loves to do for daddy, better still if we make the popping noise nice and loud.
Not any peekabooing here either, though throwing his trousers over his face at nappy changes does go down well

He has started to sign a little though
Most breakfast he signs for milk, though doesn't take it when offered. I think he just thinks on it as the thinkg that gets him liquid. But all the same he is communicating and I think that is pretty amazing. DD was 11 months before she started.
So J may have been a month early but he is no dafty

Better go he is shouting at me.

Tinkerisdead · 18/09/2009 10:00

Ohhhh twink im fascinated at the signing, when did you start signing with him? Ive started doing a few with DD but not religiously. I only do it to make her laugh like i sign bird and cheep cheep as we have an aviary.
and i do like to watch "Something special" and then start signing like a crazed mr Tumble.

MummyNic · 18/09/2009 13:33

J and I went to baby signing this morning, first time we've been!!! So I think it'll be a while before he (and I) manage to learn any.

It's very clever stuff!!!

twinklingfairy · 18/09/2009 17:25

Oh I just love baby signing! So much so I am now learning BSL (british sign language).
Trouble is, poor DD is having to be corrected every time I learn the correct sign.

I did it with DD from 5 months and didn't get a thing back until 11 months!
But do not be put off, I started waaay too soon and they are not, generally, likely to get to grips with it until this age anyway.

Don't worry about learning 'all' the signs either. You should only sign 2 or 3 at your baby until they understand, anyway.
I chose 'milk' 'more' and 'dog' for DD but TBH she never really got to grips with 'more' or 'dog'. Milk was a big one for her. Everynight she would ask, when she was ready, and story time would stop so she could feed.

I keep talking about starting classes up my way, but when I looked into joining an already establish company, they wanted to charge me £1500 to join I woudl have had to travel to London to meet the main lady and then pay £500 a year to continue to work under their name!!
I would never be in profit!!
They charge £45 for 10 weeks and too bad if you miss one
For one, that is way to expensive IMO and what a rip, if you miss a week.

I am going to go independant and have a weekly support class. No real structure, just mums getting together to encourage one another and practice songs and signs. With me, as a success story, to encourage them not to quit. As I nearly did with both mine, even after it worked so well with DD I still nearly gave up with DS.

Oops! I got started on a pet topic. I am going to slink away now cos I can see those stiffled yawns you know

coolkat · 18/09/2009 17:37

Hi Ladies

Godd to see some old faces back

Drs Wife Fosse park meet up one day? LOL My DH used to run bird auctions round here wonder if your DH ever went if he has an aviary?

Had a real bad day at work. Tempted to email Ceebee for some HR advise. Member of staff called me Hitler in front of 2 teaching groups and 2 other staff members. For some reason I am really bother by it.

My L key not working well so might be missing oads of letters!

Back later.....

MummyNic · 18/09/2009 17:38

Not at all!!! Fascinating to read. It annoys me when you don't get a refund for missing a class, especially one where they have 'drop in' spaces too (swimming I can understand as they have very limited class sizes), my space would just open up to a drop in person so the teacher would gain more money.

I will stick with it the way I have BF, that has been a massive success and I'm going to continue through the winter in an effort to keep swine flu at bay (DH and I had real flu in March and, due to my BF, J didn't get it - lucky bugger!!!). It is especially important as J was hospitalised twice (2 weeks & 7 weeks old) due to bronchiolitis. I never want to see him that ill again.

There I go, off on a tangent!!!

On a lighter note, just picked up my 'new' car.... Swapped my 2 year old Mondeo diesel for...... A Mk 1, 6 year old, Focus RS!!!! 220 BHP!!!! And J got a new forward facing seat (imperative as it's a 3 door) - a Kiddy Infinity Pro one that uses the seat belt rather than a 5 point harness - groovey!!! It's Which's Best Buy and is a nightmare to buy as they sell out the moment they arrive!!

I had a brand new Fiesta ST for just 2 years, but had to change it due to being pregnant... I was gutted, so now I have my reward - an even faster car!!!

Don't worry, I drive like an old granny, just like to beat the chavs off the line at traffic lights (it makes me chuckle!!!).

twinklingfairy · 18/09/2009 18:29

haha, I reckon I could beat you in a race.
Well, I don't really know anything about cars, but DH tells me our Saab Turbo HOT (Nope, I dunno what it means) is a mega fast car.
Well, I know it is. It has a rocket up its bum when you want to over take the boy racers on the straights.
Me, over take them just to go raaaasp eat my dust?
No, I have never done that

ellielou02 · 18/09/2009 20:59

Hi Ladies
mummynic hello your DS sounds like he is doing really well, PND is the pits! Also just read about your new car my dh will be jealous he just traded in his focus st 2.5ltr turbo but we have a lovely ford kuga now but lol at beating the chavs I used to do that too.
twinks am also amazed by the signing, I wanted to do it with millie but there are no classes near here.
coolkat that sounds awful especially with you just going back, I would be bothered by that too, is there a manager you can talk to?
I got my hair cut today, I really love it said I wanted something different so it is alot better, dont know if I will be able to recreate it tho!
daisy got my first "gig" on 12th oct to an ante natal group! You will be a pro by then so will need lots of tips
I have just sat down as went out on my bike tonight had to go early as "the nights are fair drawin in" lol so feel I deserve a glass of wine now

twinklingfairy · 18/09/2009 21:37

For Goodness sake Twink, how many times must I tell you?
HOT stands for High Output Turbo.
Basicially, a Saab Aero HOT turbo runs at a much higher pressure when compared to a normal turbocharger. This in turn produces a very high rate of torque,or pulling power, which means the vehicle will accelate best whilst in motion. This raw power is paramount for those tricky overtaking situations, or when you really fancy embarrassing M3's or Subarus

cheers
Mr Twinkling

twinklingfairy · 18/09/2009 21:48

Men!

ellie There were no classes up here until the beginning of this year.
I taught DD myself, with the aid of the 'Sing and Sign DVD'
Mainly it is just down to you though.
Every meal time sign 'food' (all fingertips to your thumb and put it to the side of your mouth, tap tap. Say 'foooood') as you give them a spoonful of dinner, 'drink' (make a cup sign and tip it with your thumb touching the side of your mouth, tip tip. Say 'driiink') as you hand them their cup.
I signed 'milk' at DD as she fed but, being a BFer it did mean that I had a hand free, not sure how a bottle feeder would manage that

I recommend 'Singing Hands' they do normal nursery ryhmes and use Makaton which is a recognised form of sign language for children with learning disabilities.

The CD doesn't drive me mad and the DVD is good too.

MummyNic · 18/09/2009 23:11

Ah, makes sense Mr Twink....
Ellie, we looked at getting a 5 door ST2 when I had to give up my beloved Fiesta ST, but there just wasn't any and I couldn't afford to buy new again.

We had planned to keep the Mondeo until J turned about 4, then (hopefully) swap it for the new Focus RS. But... Had the Mondeo serviced last month and enquired if they had a 'bench' to turn the RS's back seat from a 2 seat to a 3 seat (as they do with the ST3) and they said no!!!!

So the family fast car ain't all that family friendly and, as Leigh's parents regularly fly down from Scotland to visit, a 5 seater car is a must... ergo, no new Focus RS...

Hello Mk 1 Focus RS.

Still, it's as rare as a rare thing (unless you go to an RS Owners meet!!) and it won't drop in value which is more than can be said for the Mondeo!!!!

Yorky · 19/09/2009 08:22

Twink to your sad news, at the signing, its great isn't it , my friends were so impressed by DS but I really must do more with DD and that you don't know all the car speak initials!

Ellielou have you got the same nappy kit as Daisy? Another vote for the sing and sign DVDs DS loved watching them, and the signs are simple - its just lots of repetition

Coolkat at what the other staff member said to you, in front of others which makes it loads worse.

Mummynic, nice to see you back, hope your PND continues to improve. DD is still BFing quite a lot - first thing in am, 11s, afternoon snack, bedtime and a dreamfeed/late night top up, and that doesn't keep my 'special week' away

Daisy - do I take it that your chicken pox didn't develop?

Nights here seem to be getting better (holding breath and fingers crossed!) Annoyingly its now DS who is waking us in the middle of the night, and he comes into our room so at least he doesn't disturb DD. He asks for his nappy to be changed even though he isn't particularly wet, but we got some new cream from the Dr yesterday so hopefully is sore 'bits' will get better and he'll sleep again soon. I am tired this morning but thats my fault as DS's Godmum is up for the weekend so we had a little bit of a chat and drink last night

Bookmarking.
Will try and catch up later.

MummyNic · 19/09/2009 08:42

I hope you haven't got a headache Yorky and it's just tiredness this morning. Headaches and babies don't go well together!!!

I guess 'special week' just comes back after a while then, I was gutted when my returned, and then again 4 weeks later and so on.

I am shocked at Coolkat's work situation too, what a nightmare. It's a shame we can't slap people at work, some really do deserve it!!

ellielou02 · 19/09/2009 09:10

Morning
twinks lol at you not knowing the HOT and Mr twinks disbelief that you forgot I can picture the conversation I will look for dvd on tinternet!
yorky yes same as daisy and I think you commented on my intro I am from Scotland I hope you enjoyed your catch up with your friend and your not feeling too tired today.
mummynic agree sometimes you do feel like slapping some people
I am going to go out on my bike this morning I think then may need to think about starting to paper my living room hate doing it always get fed up then make mistakes.

Yorky · 19/09/2009 19:57

ellielou! So glad I didn't blank you!

Thanks for the sympathy Twink but I very rarely fell the effects the morning after, much to DH jealousy. Tiredness hits me before drink! And we didn't over do it as DD is still bfing quite a bit. The chat was great though, its been too long. Although arranging a wedding for a group of people we'd never met was funny!

Had a good day here today with DD starting to move - er own unique kind of bum shuffling which looks quite a lot like the way a dog drags itself to wipe its bottom!
And DH is on leave for the next week so he is talking about blitzing the house and tackling a room a day - it needs doing, but it would be SO much easier of we could put the kids in the cupboard under the stairs while we got on with it!

Has anyone seen Creena recently?

I am the only one not in bed now! Off to put tThat right

twinklingfairy · 19/09/2009 20:40

Golly this place is pretty dead of a weekend>
It was/is DDs birthday today. She has been teling me for a long time that she would be 3 soon. Now she told complete strangers that she was 3 today.
She was so excited about it
We went to see the singing kettle with a friend of hers, another one happened upon us too so there were 3 of them. Though none of them was really aware of the other they were so enthralled!
DH did not come in the end cos he would not be in the right frame of mind and J just wouldn't sit for that long. Was just as well that I had invited my friend cos the police asked to speak to DH as we were all getting ready. He then came to the house, cos DH had J so couldn't come in (J obligingly (sp??) fell asleep) but still the police man stayed for nearly 3 hours!
Did you know they cannot accept refreshments? I guess incase we were to put anything in them. He would/could not even accept a brand new sealed bottle from DH.

DH was told how his friend was killed and it was not a nice thing at all. I almost wish I had been left in blissful ignorance

Funeral is Wednesday.

Life goes on and my ironing pile is toppling better get off this 'puter before DH gets cross. He hates to see me on my bum when he is busy (he has the kitchen cleaning task tonight, I did it this morning cos it had not been done last night, so he is not squiggling out of it!)
So I had better at least go sit down behind the ironing table (with the telly on)

twinklingfairy · 19/09/2009 20:46

Twas not me with the sympathy yorky
I have no sympathy for self inflicted illness
It has been so long since I have had a girly night in. Or out for that matter!
Not fussed really, drinking, BF, and generally babies just don't mix really.
ho hum.
Can you tell I am avoiding the ironing?
