And while I remember, I got a Britax Eclipse car seat from Halford's online for £71 ish delivered free.

I think it's last year's colours or something and was down to £79 with another 10% off for online orders.

chocolategal · 27/08/2009 13:48

Aww poor bumble and you!! We have had a couple of incidents like that and it really is terrifying. Sounds like you stayed calm and did all the right things which is not easy in situations like that.

I was looking at that car seat on halfords website, we are going to get it for my car and an isofix one for the main car. Seems to be a few good deals at halfords online just now.

LackaDAISYcal · 27/08/2009 18:19

Gah, it isn't my day. I have a microwave rice cooker and the rice had had it's first half of cooking, and had sat for a few minutes as the ILs had brought DS1 home and it went over the time, and when I stuck a fork in to stir it, the rice had all stuck together and the water jumped out of the container and all over my neck and chest and down one arm . I was at the sink, so leant over and was splacshing cold water on me and then got a tea towel and was soaking it and wringing it out on my neck, and although I haven't got any blisters, it's all very red and sore. The shock when the water hit my neck was the strangest feeling and I'm feeling very ropey now as well.

Luckily it had been sitting for a few minutes so had gone off the boil or it could have been much much worse.

AFingerofFudge · 27/08/2009 18:44

Evening all.... think I have just about caught up, the advantage of it being quiet eh?
Well, our holiday went really well, had lots of lovely day trips, managed to get into London to take DS1 to see Billy Elliot. It's at the theatre that I used to work at, so it was great to see old friends who are still there. We also had a day trip to France which went very well, we spent some time at the beach and got in the obligatory trip to the hypermarket
Hope all well, lacks glad you're better, sorry about the scalding and choking incidents!! Choking babies is v.v.scary.

Well, the big news from me is....(no I'm not pregnant!!!)I go back to work on Saturday night. It's my first nightshift and I'm terrified because
a)will I be able to stay awake all night?
b) will I remember properly to do what I need to do???

I'm sure it will be fine once I get there, and it is a job I love, I just am having one of those insecure moments of wondering whether or not I'm ok at the job anyway.
Sigh.

must go and see to M. He is being lovely at the moment, though no crawling yet, no eating apart from puree, and no teeth. Come on Mally, keep up!!!That is a joke by the way, I'm the least competitive person you've ever come across!

chocolategal · 27/08/2009 20:35

glad your ok daisy, just keep the area cool and keep an eye out for blisters forming. Definately not your day!

Hi fudge nice to hear you had a good holiday.
I was nervous before my first nightshift too, and i although i was tired i probably wasnt anymore tired than normal on nightshift it just felt like it as i hadnt done one at work in a while! Im sure you will be great. Do you do permanent nights?

Yorky · 27/08/2009 20:41

Wow Daisy, what a day. Hope you're OK now. Poor Bumble, how scary for you both

Good luck at work FoF, I'm sure you'll be fine and enjoy being back.

Today has been good. Partly I think cos DD had her feed at 1130 then slept till 515, had a cuddle and put back where she talked to herself for half an hour then kicked off again at 550, DS came in our room 5mins later so I started the day just before 6 but with an almost unbroken, though slightly short night!
DS has been pretty good almost all day - he was good at the supermarket so we went to the cafe for juice and cake which he sat on a chair and ate
Then he was nice with my friends newly adopted son who came round to play
And he ate his tea with only minor playing up when daddy gt home late, which was DHs fault not DSs!

Shame about bath and bedtime, but they are both asleep in the same room now, fingers crossed for the rest of the night.

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 27/08/2009 21:03

no blisters and the redness is going down.

yorky, glad you had a better night. hopefully this is the start of things getting better. I think I said before but bumble started with one night, then the good nights got closer together and then the length of time asleep got longer......she'll get there!!

Now, talk to me about Zafiras. There is one on DH's company car list and I think it's the only one that we can get three car seats across the back. One thing we have read is that it diesn't have a split rear seat? ie the main row of seats. DH is worried he on't be able to get his fishing rods in as a result.

Yorky · 27/08/2009 21:36

Have you got time before the end of the hols for a playdate - cars not kids obviously or both if you insist!
Split rear seat? they slide forwards as a bench seat but the backs all fold down independently, we normally have the middle one down between the two priorifix seats with a toy and juice cup holder thing on the back of the middle seat - although there is a cup holder built into the seat back!
Can't see why fishing rods would be a problem - if all else fails wind the window down!
With the seats in the boot it can be a bit of a faff changing from 5 to 7 seater if your child seats are held by seatbelts - thank god for isofix

Must get on with the huge, ridiculous pile of laundry in front of me - the sleepsuit DH put out for DD tonight was size3-6 so have decided its time for mega sort out, shouldn't have quickly nipped on MN for a check first should I!

OP posts:
Ceebee74 · 27/08/2009 21:39

Daisy poor you - what a day Poor Bumble aswell - very scary!! I am so paranoid about choking that I still cut DS1's grapes up

Yorky yay for a good day - I have those (very) occasionally and it reminds you why we put ourselves through this doesn't it?

Fudge glad your holiday went well. I am sure you will be fine with the nightshift - you are bound to be tired but hopefully it will be manageable.

Well, am very today. Today was the last day where it was just me and Hamster . Dh is around tomorrow and then Hamster will be at nursery the same days as DS1 from next week. I have loved having 1-2-1 time with him and so sad that has come to an end - even though it had to at some point! Countdown now until I go back to work....

Yorky · 27/08/2009 21:40

Thinking harder (and putting off laundry for 5 more mins) I don't know which car seats would fit in a row - I've had friend's DD in rear facing Graco, next to her big sister in a stage 2 flimsy job, next to my DD in isofix one and they fitted fine although middle seatbelt fastening was a bit awkward to reach - haven't tried it with older seat between two stage 1s - although if your DS is just on a booster cushion you should be in with a chance.
Like I say, bring your car seats, I'll bring a car and we'll experiment

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 27/08/2009 21:58

DS is just on a booster cushion and we went and bought a slim fitting one when we got the scenic.

Yes to playdate; where and when? We are around all next week as although schools are back on Thursday, DS1's school are taking them as training days so he isn't back till the 7th September. DS1 is staying overnight at his GPs next Wednesday so Wed or Thursday would be good for me.

LackaDAISYcal · 27/08/2009 22:01

sorry ceebee, didn't mean to blank you

It is quite sad when things come to an end like that isn't it? At least you have had a good long time off with him .

I often wish that I could have had more time with DD or that she was at nursery so I could have a bit of one to one time with bumble. Still neither of them seem to be suffering from a lack of solo mummy time. DS1 on the other hand......

juanitad · 28/08/2009 14:47

Daisy, just in case you log on in the next few mins, are we still on for this afty?

MerryMarigold · 28/08/2009 16:51

Hi guys. Just having a little pop on to catch up a tiny bit...daisy, interesting what you were saying about ds1 suffering more than the others. I feel that too. He had 3 years with just me, and he is struggling with siblings, he seems to be going through so much, poor chap, and I don't know how to help him other than to be there more for him. It's hard to find balance. We went out yesterday to a farm with my Mum (Mum watched babies) and I had a great time with him, but am suffering today after running about - I definitely don't have a 3 year old's energy.

Sleep is still wretched. Last night I was woken by 4 different people, some of them multiple times. M woke 5x for feeding/ comforting, J woke twice, ds1 only woke once (but got into my bed and took up most of it!), Dad couldn't sleep and made 3 cups of tea with noisy kettle next to my room...so all in all I am shattered. Am at my parents so no dh to do the mornings, but have managed to grab sleep this pm.

Sorry to hear of accidents daisy. Hope you're feeling better now.

Yorky · 28/08/2009 20:36

Daisy - Weds or Thurs fine by me - or both!
will call you

Fabby Yorky

AFingerofFudge · 28/08/2009 21:58

Bugger. Every time I want to bid on something on ebay, I invariably forget until about 1 minute before the auction ends. Then my crappy computer takes so long to wake up and refresh that then I miss said auction. hrrrmuph. Guess what's top of my birthday list for when I'm 40 in October (sshhh!) - a laptop. And a tatoo.

Anyway, enough of that. Hi MM Sorry you're having a rubbish time with sleep. Wonder how tegan is doing? She was having it rough on the sleep front also.

This time tomorrow I'll be on my nightshift! Yes chocogal I only do nightshifts!! Well, I used to do some bank shifts during the day before I had M, but now will have to stick with my nights as have no childcare during the day. I have accrued lots of goodwill on the babysitting front over the last 6 months, with various friends, so that I can ask them to have M if I have a study day or something, but I have no official childcare. I should be ok though as a very kind colleague at work who does the off duty has put me on mostly weekends, so at least DH can have M the next morning.

ooh goody, glad it's nearly Saturday from a footy point of view. Missed it lots over the summer, glad the season has started again (yes I know I'm a weirdo)

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2009 22:46

you need bidniper FoF, then you just put in the maximum you want to bid and let it do the rest.

Hey MM . Good to hear from you. Sorry about the lack of sleeping though; sounds really really tough. But, it WILL pass.

I was feeling utterly distraught about bumble's sleeping (or lack of it!) a few short weeks agos and now he is doing 8-6 every night. Trying to fit in another couple of snacks seems to have paid dividends for us.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2009 22:47

or even Bid Sniper!

tegan · 29/08/2009 06:36

hey all thanks fof for remembering me.
sleep is crap. i am keeping a sleep diary for hv.

last night he went down at 7pm woke at 7.30 for cuddles then at 12 for bottle but wouldn't settle after 4.30.

thank fully he is eating well and now in the last 2 weeks has cut 4 teeth.

and has now decided he prefers to stand at the sofa than sit

AFingerofFudge · 29/08/2009 11:15

hmm, don't know why I was wishing my 40th birthday to be sooner than it is...it's December not October

Will look at the bid sniper thing lacks it's the only way with this poor excuse for a computer. It's only 18 months old which I know is old in computer terms, but you'd think it would have the decency to work at least some of the time.

This nightshift thing is psychological- I've been yawning ever since I got up this morning. Think of me at 4am if you're unlucky enough to be awake with Dc's....

enough about me. How is everyone?? I know it's always quiet on here at weekends, but as the schools go back next week, I'm predicting it will be busier during the week. I for one am guilty of ignoring piles of washing up and laundry in favour of MN when the kids are at school

ellielou02 · 29/08/2009 16:43

Hi ladies
cant seem to get any time these days it seems to be all go when DH is at home, we are going out here tonight, I cant wait I love food so much lol and I went there last week with friends and it was great, have you been chocgal? Have nearly got the living room wall paper stripped but cant decide on a paper. DD1 is loving school and she now does swimming, dancing and gymnastics so have been ferrying her about everywhere. Millie is coming on now she is commando crawling and boy can she move. I have also been cooking a bit more, I got the jaime oliver cookbook for my birthday (I asked for it) so been making lovely stuff.
daisy that must have been scay when bumble choked its awful when it happens.
fudge glad hols went well and enjoy your work (you prob will )
ceebee for your last time on your own with sam, I am sure there will be other opportunities as your DS1 starts doing other things.
yorky I hope you are getting better sleep and tegan too ooh and meri its nice to "see" you again
I have a colleague at work who is having an awful time with her DS he doesnt sleep at all may be a few hours at 8 till about 11 then he is up to party all night and he is nearly 2. She looks so tired.
Anyhoo away in the bath to get ready for tonight

Oblomov · 30/08/2009 05:58

back from hols.Lovely. Tyring.
Trying to catch up.
M has 6 teeth. been misearble for 3 weeks now teething wise. Unlike some of the others, he is drinking alot of milk. infact has started to wake up for a niddle of the night feed again. and eating loads.
He moves around freely. nearly walking, dh thinks. can climb up and down the 3 steps into and out of the caravan.
Started another thread. work resedmy request to reduce my hours. after my manager agreed it. nice welcome home letter, that was/

Welcome back Daisy. you were noticeably missed.
Congrats Ceebee on 3 stone. wow. I have put on 1/2 stone. well so school run walks, fro 6 weeks. And a bottle of wine whilst camping. EVERY NIGHT . I suppose explains it !!

MerryMarigold · 30/08/2009 13:45

Hey tegan, you make me feel 'better'. M was up 4x last night, but managed to settle herself back on one of the occasions, so not too bad for me. And J only up once at 6am, so he's settling back into being at home. I really feel for you...there is a book I borrowed from someone a while ago called 'How to Solve Your Kids Sleep Problems'. It was really good, very simple but very thorough and helped me with ds1 dropping his day nap, and going to sleep without a fuss every night. Maybe I need to buy it for M now! One thing I do remember him saying was if a baby is waking soon after going to sleep, he may be treating bedtime as a late nap...anyway, there was lots of good advice in it and it's written by some sleep doctor, made sense to me rather than some of the other books I've read which are full of 'anecdotal advice' which doesn't seem to work (tried quite a few on ds1).

Ceebee, you lost 3 stone. Wow, I missed that! Well done.

Obs, a camping hol sounds fun...J has 6 teeth too and is a typical man about them coming in!! M fusses a lot less, but does only have 4 teeth.

FoF, 18mths isn't old for a comp! Dh works full time in comps with a large consultancy firm and had his last laptop for a couple of years before it was replaced. Does it just need more memory? Laptops are better though for keeping up with mail, FB and MN.

Had a bath with J (ds2) today which as fun, just spontaneous as M was sleeping and ds1 out with dh. We had a good time. Sometimes worry I love M more as she is so sweet and J bites my nipple A LOT and then laughs , so it was nice to have some bonding time. He is very physical and loves physical affection.

coolkat · 30/08/2009 20:09

Helloooo

Hi Obs, sounds like a good holiday. x

Merry good to here from you. Becca goes in fits and spurts with sleep. I am stopping BF and am down to one feed now and the rest is bottles. I feel she was waking for comfort. At the min sleep has improved but I am sure its a short term thing. Hope its not as I am back to work on Tues

Ellie hope you had a good night last night

Fof hope your nightshift went well. X

Daisy I have the Britx eclipse in both our cars, realy pleased with it. I am thinking of putting Becca into her infant carrier as I feel she is still to small DH says she isn't.

Becca is puling herself up more and more and moving along the furniture. She still has no teeth despite definate teething signs for what seems like forever! I am back to wotk on Tues and to cheer myself up got myself some patent work shoes from clarks but now feel they may be a bit old fashioned All my trousers fitted though so that's a bonus!

Right off to chill
