...here we go ladies, right I'm off to catch up!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sitting for BLW I think EPPM. Are you wanting to do BLW? Is your highchair the Ikea one? If you have an insert for it and he can hold himself upright then I'd be tempted to start at 24wks maybe? I think the reason that it is better if they are upright is because of the gagging/swallowing thing with BLW, to reduce choking risk. Puree is meant to be okay once liver/kidneys mature enough at 20wks, think that is prob why HVs still advise on the puree to lumps to finger foods approach since they still don't seem to all be on the same page with starting at 6mo.

DD calling... back in a mo to discuss blueberry sidesnaps

treedelivery · 12/07/2009 19:36

because we can

because stripes matter

Moose - you would love www.weenotions.info

They must have 1000 fabrics to choose from and 10000 embroidery [sp?] options. Plenty of stripes too Were I rich I'd have an organic bamboo tie dye velour sent your way. And to all of you infact. Though striped for stripey obviously.

I have a pink one with a fairy on, it's lush, and a blue veloour with a big strawberry on. Fun!

LenniEd · 12/07/2009 19:38

I have vitamin drops - free here for under 5s, but rarely give them DD is a good eater and DS only just getting to stage where would need them plus it's been a good summer light-wise so have a few excuses reasons for not being so hot on it. Will endeavour to do better once we get to autumn. DD hates the taste of them which doesn't help.

Blueberry sidesnaps - they are gorgeous nappies, they don't sag at the front like the ittis can do sometimes and they feel nicer than the ittis but they are fleece lined so will bobble eventually so don't hold their value like ittis and they don't assemble so neatly like the ittis. The things I like about them though are they are pocket nappies so can be stuffed for night time use and the prints are lovely.

treedelivery · 12/07/2009 19:43

I agree about the sidesnaps, they hold their boxy type shape better even when wet. Itti's can sag a bit, I think the hemp is very heavy when wet and drags them down.

Now I want this, even though couldn't use it till next year. If wasn't for interweb I'd be quite rich I think

Maybe I should get some drops in view of the slow down in weaning.....hmmmm.

treedelivery · 12/07/2009 19:56

Can anyone help me justify buying this?

There must be a way. What can I sell.....

SparkleandShine · 12/07/2009 19:59

stripey the blueberries are ok - the prints are lush but more bulky than the ittis. Out of the three I tried (blueberry, bumgenius and itti) I liked the itti best as more slimline and you can change the pads in them. All three were good though and haven't leaked yet (apart from the blueberry that my dad left on for about 4 hours but that doesn't really count as a disposable would have leaked by then)

LenniEd · 12/07/2009 20:00

That is lovely Tree - can't justify it though not knowing what I do about your nappy collection but then I really can't talk!

SparkleandShine · 12/07/2009 20:07

elkie - Have a look here , cheetah jaguar zebra dalmation

stripeywoollenhat · 12/07/2009 20:08

sas, i think slimline is important, have had a bumgenius for a couple of months but only started using it now as it really impeded her movement when she was smaller. it's still not great but hopefully as she gets bigger it'll matter less. good nappy otherwise, but prefer ittis. as i may already have mentioned...

to change the subject entirely, is anybody else having to work really hard to pry their lo's toes out of their mouths??? (not my mouth, you understand, her own...)

SparkleandShine · 12/07/2009 20:13

I can't get real nappy vouchers

LenniEd · 12/07/2009 20:23

Sparkle we got £45 for nappies when DD was born. Still use those nappies too.

Slimline definitely important for girls - much more so than boys who can live in tracksuit style trousers and baggy jeans/shorts without looking at all like their nappies are bulky. Girls clothes ime are slimmer cut and bulky nappies don't fit so well under them. Plus if the nappy is big and the clothes close fitting it causes compression wicking so they leak.

DS only just worked out he can get his foot in his mouth - his mother on the other hand regularly puts her foot in it - not his that is. He is so much slower developmentally than his sister that I sometimes expect him to do stuff that he can't - but he's finally worked out how to lift his bottom and his head at the same time so he can clear his immense belly from the ground. It's hard not to compare them, he is such a lovely baby though, so pleasant a character to be around.

moosemama · 12/07/2009 20:27

Tree you bad bad lady you! I got so lost looking at all the nappies on that site that you beat me to posting the toadstool nappy! That is DH's ultimate idea of a cool nappy - he's toadstool mad.

We also chose this one and then realised that, bizarrely, it has the same tree on it as the giant tree sticker we have bought for our living room wall.

We got totally confuddled by all the different options for layers, liners, fabrics etc etc. My brain hurts now. Think I will have to spend some time reading up on different types and what bits and pieces you need to get started.

Stripey dd constantly has her toes in her gob! She had her foot in her mouth all the way around Ikea yesterday. Other favourite trick of the moment is biting peoples' noses!

rrrayray · 12/07/2009 20:43

Chef .... Our babies REALLY ARE turning into little girls aren't they! So quickly!

Stripey Esme too has some CHUNKY Thighs on her. I'm actually pretty astonished just how much of a Chunk she is, as both her Daddy and i are pretty Lean, and always have been. She is just edible though!!!

nappies ... you are all Bonkers on nappies, eh?

Esme is getting on well with her experimenting with Food, has a a mush, nibble, AKA just made a mess off Carrot, Brocoli and Pear! I forgot how LOVELY cooked Pear smells, i steamed it, and nobbled half of it myself! Mmmmmm

Books - definitely seems to be a stage they go through - was just talking about it with a friend who has a 3yo at music group on Friday. DD is terrified of crowds right now and "scared" was her favourite word for a while a month or so ago (she's 2.6yo) - I have no idea why it happens but a friend who is into all the child brain development stuff reckons it is linked to them developing a sense of self. Not sure myself, but does seem fairly universal from talking to friends.

PatTheHammer · 12/07/2009 21:08

Ye Gads, all this nappy talk!!!! You have filled up 2 whole pages. Some gorgeous bum-coverings discussed though and moose has become a convert.....woo-hoo!

Just wish I wasn't so lazy and skint and I might be tempted.

Not much to add only today has been whingeville in the extreme for DD. Hope she is better tomorrow, DH and I almost felt like leaving her at home today and going out for lunch for a bit of peace . Obviously I know thats illegal!

Oh and , I kid you not, Zach had his first roast dinner at the carvery today and scoffed a HUGE amount including a whole roast potato and roast pork. There were peolpe in the restaurant looking on in disbelief. He would have also had my ice-cream sundae I reckon if I'd have let him . Totally retro sunday lunch, but completely delicious!

EPPM they do have to sit if doing BLW I believe.

books The crawling thing sound sooooooooo familiar! Oh, I think irrational fears are quite common at this age and just a sign of developing imagination. DD has had loads, too many to mention. Just keep an eye on that it doesn't become an obsession maybe.

ray glad your attempts with Esme gone well.

tree also totally ignoring what you said. Big Yay, for other totally unrelated reasons

treedelivery · 12/07/2009 21:37

Was checking out Esme today Ray, on fb. I thought she looked so petite and most certainly a girl. A very tiny dainty little face. Oh squeeze!

People always sound surprised when I say dd2 is a girl - she has bovva boy hair and looks a bit of a thug when she glowers. SHe's very small though, which saves her from looking like Henry the 8th. Ginger and all that.

Yay Moose - there is soooo much choice though isn't there? Especially with the made to order, you can decide on every last bit of fabric. That would take me a year.

missjackson · 12/07/2009 21:37

Hi all - love all the nappy chat. Hoping my ittis will arrive tomorrow. I bought mint, lime, turqoise, blue, polka dots blue x 2 and strawberry fields. And some boosters and mini-boosters. Haven't actually tried out ittis before such a commitment but they look so cute and that's the main thing .

Nye a lot better today. Was wheezing still in the morning but we had a steamy bath (tried again ray, this time with the door and window closed from the outset, which helped no end!) and I think that helped.

books your DD sounds like she is ready to be off. Nye is sitting now but not for long, and although he can roll both ways he doesn't do it much. I am appreciating every relatively immobile day, as I realise there can't be many left!

sparkle I grew up on the edge of the Forest, in the Wye Valley, and know Littledean. I did my A-levels at the Royal Forest of Dean college - maybe the same as your OH? It's so beautiful there. Not sure what to do with kids there though, but if they are older there are lots of brilliant cycle trails.

tree will just send you a big without mentioning why

stripey love your fb pics of C - especially the ones with the apple. Really makes me want to get started on the BLW weaning. At the same time, like with the no-crawling, I am appreciating the lack of mess.

pat Z is also sooo cute getting stuck into his food. Wow for the roast dinner!

Lenni San Fran.... just the sound of it.... lucky you, living there.

hkz burn after reading is great film; love all the Cohen Bros movies.

ray pears sounds yummy. Hope you are having a nice time at your parents. As for chunky thighs, I think there is some research somewhere that says fat babies, as long as they are breastfed, are less likely to be obese as adults, so def no need to worry. N has massively chunky thighs, he now gets wedged in his bumbo, and yet both OH and I are tall and lean.

Waves to everyone else...

Spent the day at a horse show in gorgeous sunshine. Have had a really nice weekend actually, lots of time with OH, which is always so relaxing - just something nice about sharing the responsibility (and nappy changes!) with someone else.

treedelivery · 12/07/2009 22:55

Thank you for all your with no particualar reason in mind. I really hope this is it. Oh let it be ok.

LenniEd - was ruefuly musing onthe bluebery sidesnaps in lovely colours I missed on an online auction - then spotted who I missed them to! Just as well, am brassic broke until...well....until I go back to work. Bugger.

chefswife · 13/07/2009 01:44

tree Glad you are in better spirits. I think its been a tough week for most... full moon lunar eclipse happened. I've been giving DD Vit D drops since she was born. I also still take omega-3 and folic acid along with echinacea tincture too. And to justify buying those nappies... omg ... they are sweet. I've racked my brain and decided that you should just buy it.

You ladies are crazy for nappies. I went with these They are just as addicting now though with their new lines..

We did our first swing and slide today... alas no pictures though cause DH was at work. DD loved it and the higher i swung the more giggles she did.

SparkleandShine · 13/07/2009 08:27

morning - hope all going well tree

books yes that is the neat thing about internet businesses, we're currently about the size of six small high street stores with the staff of one! No worrying about displays, browsing customers or shoplifters

missj yes he did go to RFDC, although he didn't recognise you when I showed him facebook (you are a little younger I suspect ). I did get lots of "how do you know her?" and "but what do you talk about" etc etc he was a bit when I said nappies!

Have decicded am just going to buy the double buggy new here. tell me I'm being silly.... its a waste of money isn't it.... but I can sell it for £200-£250 at least as it'll be nearly new....aggghhhh

rrrayray · 13/07/2009 08:38

Tree Esme has Lashes to DIE for which i think makes her look unmistakeably girly. But, i don't think she is as Dainty as she looks in photos- she actually a bit of a chunk these days! Everyone keeps telling me how Tubby she is.... Poor mite! She is just PERFECT in my eyes! < Is it wrong that when they say how CHUNKY her thighs are, (not in an adorable cute way ) i want to tell them how CHUNKY theirs are! >

MissJ I'm glad to hear someone else's baby can roll, but just isn't that fussed. Its like she's ticked the box, and on with the next thing... done that mummy, boring! She too is sitting, but i wouldn't leave her side, as she will tend to topple after a few minutes. Shes still far more interested in standing and taking some stompy steps than anything on her back, tummy, or bottom!!!! Feet are obviously the way forwards, Excuse the pun! As much as i joke about people calling her tubby, like you say, she's breastfed, so i really can't see there being any problem! The HV wasn't remotely worried. Glad the Steaming of the room helped, When Esme had a heavy Cold, i subjected myself (haha) to a lovely hot steamy bath every morning for a few mornings, steaming up the whole room, and let her kick nappy free in all the lovely steam. Seemed to do the trick! (For us both! ha!)

Off to meet a friend for Lunch on the marina Today..... Yum!

elkiedee · 13/07/2009 09:39

I'm really tempted by some of the animal print nappies.
