Hi sarah, very good to have you back! Congratulations on the walking and the sleeping. DD has slept 11ish-6ish a couple of times in the last week and it is sooooo nice. Sambo I know what you mean about the strangeness of reported baby behaviour in so-called 'real' life...

Sambo while I think of it did you say you were going to the BF picnic at Westminster next week? I have only just caught on but it sounds like a fab thing to do...?

Miamla you poor thing I hope DP and DS escape the piggy flu and you yourself are better very quickly... thanks for those kind words re DD Admittedly she is teeny but I myself think the 'dainty' stuff is laid on with a trowel for other people, I get shouting, stomping and toy-flinging a-plenty (see video on FB for example!)

No1 and Hots lots of get well wishes to you and yours as well...

Miamla · 13/07/2009 22:31

and because we haven't had enough drama here today DP thought it'd be a good idea to slice his finger open. Cue me runnig with my first aid hat on
emerdgency over and he's patched up well enough to ocntinue cooking

pertelote sambo what is this pcinic that you talk of?

DS seems a bit better tonight, certainly more steady on his feet so that's good. DP slept most afternoon so think he's feeling alot bette ro too

[TENT TEMPORARILY CLOSED]

Ladies please pardon the mess but there's been a report several on this thread have been sick with symptoms similar to Swine Flu.

The cleaning crew is just a precautionary measure. The bleach smell with disappear by morning.

Take care.

SoNotExpectant · 14/07/2009 03:16

Can still smell the bleach here!

Hope all those not well are feeling a bit better today. Just heard about the little 6yo girl who died in the UK

VG DS1 sounds adorable as ever I don't see how he could fail to have great values and grow up to be a wonderful well mannered young man.

sambo great news on the sleeping. Yes RL seems very different. I think some are a bit liberal with the truth - one of my RL friends is always telling me that her DS is a wonderful eater (makes me rather because she knows how it upsets me when S doesn't eat) yet her DH admitted to my DH that he'll only eat in front of the TV now!

Miamla · 14/07/2009 07:14

guess who slept from bedtime til 6.30!!!!!!!!!!!

the boy did good!!!!!

and the other boy (aka DP) did good too, he didn't wake me either!!!!!

hurrraaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Morning eveyone

Miamla - well done on the sleep, I think he was just waiting for you to take him on about it then he gave in gracefully.

VG - DS1 sound like a very sensible boy and with you as his mum couldn't fail to grow into a thoughtful young man. And on the fruit front - I may have to knit DH an apple one just to see his face!

Hi Sarah you will find nothing has changed here!

TS thanks for the cleaning crew for the tent, can you sned them round to mine when you are done with them please.

hotterpotter · 14/07/2009 07:55

Glad you had a good night Miamla. Still feeling dog rough here, although temp has come down. Just waiting for an NHS Direct nurse to ring me back - expected wait time 7-10 hours I'm worried about how the DC will handle it

sambo303 · 14/07/2009 08:06

well done T, good work, how are you feeling today miamla?

Felix slept 7pm til 6.45am with short feed at 11pm - wonderful!

notso what is it with this competitive parenting? I think it's rooted in parental insecurities myself. Sometimes I feel that we never move out of the playground. We recently stayed with some of dp's rellies who have a 2 year old and said he always sleeps through ...but I heard him crying twice in the night . The husband was saying what wonderful sleepers his children were and his wife said he'd forgotten driving round the neighbourhood for hours trying to get the eldest to sleep.

vg getting right on it with that knit - could have more uses than banana cover, non?

ts thanks for the clean up and complimentary mask

miamla and pert the bf picnic is here. It's next monday and I am hopefully meeting my MP there!! I am packing a pan bagna like this for me and ds. Can you make it? (the picnic not the sandwich)

got to go make a quiche for a friend who recently had a baby - meeting him today and I thought a home cooked meal would be a good pressie rather than more tat for the baby. He is downs syndrome but heart ok.

Miamla · 14/07/2009 08:07

oi VG, you leave my licing room alone!
as for the knitting, were you after an apple cover or a banana one?

morning oops, make sure you post a photo

morning hots, sorry to hear you've got so long to wait. i was amazed when i was put straight through to the nurse yesterday, apparently i was 'top priority'. made me a bit worried until the nurse asked how many weeks pregnant i was. 'erm, 20months, he's running round the living room'. It would seem that somebody hadn't unticked the pregnant box on their system And this is despite me calling them a few times since DS was born
Sorry, i'm rambling, what i meant to say was its good that your temp is lower. Are DC poorly too?

sambo blimey, the sleep fairies were busy last night! still feeling pretty rough. typing a bit slower today so it'll make more sense to y'all!
i love a good picninc and that pan bagna looks amazing so i may well try and make one for us as well coor, i'm such a copy cat. i hope you agree that imitation is highest form of flattery anyway, what i meant to say was i'll text you at the weekend and if i've made a full recovery i'll join you

OP posts:
hotterpotter · 14/07/2009 08:28

DC seem fine so far, thank goodnessllllllllllllxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Whoops, DD typing! Apparently the incubation period is 2 - 5 days so hopefully I will be feeling better by the time they get it. Am just trying to get as much breast milk as possible into DS

oopsacoconut · 14/07/2009 08:34

HP and Miamla - forgot to check how you were doing?

SoNotExpectant · 14/07/2009 08:55

Miamla well done T.

VG no apologies required I'm quite fond of rambling particularly as I usually post from work in the morning and you're all asleep (hopefully) anyway.

Sambo yes weird isn't it the need for some kind of competition. I know we're all fiercely proud of our DCs but don't see the point in lying about how well they sleep. If you've got a good sleeper then great if you haven't then you need all the sympathy you can get!

pertelote · 14/07/2009 08:56

How sweet of your DD to send us kisses HP xx to her too.

Hope the sick houses are doing ok this morning... sleep fairies were here too last night! Busy fairies indeed!

Sambo thanks for that link, I'd definitely like to go so shall we arrange to meet somewhere? Miamla if you're feeling up to it by then would you go via Stratford?

Also Sambo I think a quiche is a perfect present for a new mother! Glad to hear the little one's heart is ok - there are always lots of children with Down's at the cardio clinic so it is clearly a high risk. I guess any kind of condition is a big shock though so hope the family are doing ok.

VG were you looking to commission a fruit condom or just boggling at it?! I can't say it is very high on my 'things to knit' list but I must admit I do have one of those plastic things to stop my banana being squished on the tube... twas an essential during the 'must eat every ten minutes' stage of pregnancy!

AnnVan · 14/07/2009 09:13

Morning everyone.
the sleep fairy has clearly deserted me. Mind you DS is getting two new teeth through so that probably explains it. I've had a bout 3 hours sleep, and have a friend coming down from london today. haven't seen him since graduation (about 2 years ago).

Hope the poorly mums and babes all recover soon.

pertelote heart defects are very common in children with Down's. my older brother had Down's as well as a heart defect. But there's so much more that can be done for these things now (obviously you know from experience) But he was born in the late 70s so they couldn't do anything about the hole in his heart.

I'm now thinking it might be nice to join the picinic on monday. Hmmm...

Oh hi sarah it's good to see you back. Don't feel shy

AnnVan · 14/07/2009 09:14

Definitely laughed at the 'banana' warmer

cyteen · 14/07/2009 10:11

Not just me tittering at the banana sheath then [Frankie Howerd emoticon]

Sleep fairies obviously so busy elsewhere that they missed our house [yawn] DS did alright, mind, it was just me that was awake half the night - after he came in with us at 1am I spent the night being gradually shunted to the edge of the bed as he latched on and off, flung his arms about, snorted, snuffled and generally stretched out (pushing the covers off us both at every opportunity, of course). Cat on edge of bed harrassing me for food from 4am - looks like he's back to full health then DP oblivious so when boy decided to get up at 5.30am he took him downstairs and let me stretch out.

hots and Miamla sorry you're not much better but glad at least that the littlies seem okay. Today's news has really put the wind up DP and I although Miamla I did chuckle at 'how many months pregnant are you?' Thought you were going to drop a bombshell on us then

Into town when DS wakes up, needs bits and pieces (half of which I will no doubt forget). I shall be paying cash as some fuckhead cloned my card over the weekend. Luckily the prevention software worked and they got away with the grand total of...a pound

Hi sarahnh

cyteen · 14/07/2009 10:13

Oh, I meant to say thanks for the pan bagna reminder sambo - we're off to a picnic this Sunday, weather permitting, for a friend's LO's first birthday, so I'm on the lookout for tasty picnicables to construct.

CaptainCaveman · 14/07/2009 11:10

Ladies, I come fresh from ds1's sports day! I nearly cried at every race, they all did so well. Tom did extra good by cheating winning the obstacle race . . I totally get what miamla said about never leaving the playground - you should see how seriously some parents took the parents race!

Hope all are well?

I spent yesterday dishing out drugs in the flu clinic - it really is rife among us. I actually enjoyed having some patient contact again too, nice break from the norm.

sambo303 · 14/07/2009 12:18

ooo would be wonderful if you could all come, we could do competitive pan bagnas. Cant take the credit for the idea though as buckets described it a few days ago and my mouth has been watering ever since

hotpot sorry you are feeling so bad, hope you manage to get plenty of rest. I had some horrible 48 hour shivering fever a few months ago and looking after a dc whilst feeling ill is the worst thing ever. Not sure how to react to this pandemic. We cancelled soft play yesterday as it seems places children gather are breeding grounds but I dont want ds to miss out because I'm being over protective.

Steaknife · 14/07/2009 13:41

So glad the sleep fairies have been round the thread. Reached another crisis point today with dh. Stupid argument about the blinds which i couldn't let rest and made a huge scene in.front of the pils Upshot is it is all my fault for bfing rather than stopping so i could take ads that dr refused to prescribe. And my fault for forgetting to phone the english speaking counsellor. So obviously i dont want to get better and he cant cope so has gone to stay with his brother. Oh happy Bastille Day.

Steaknife · 14/07/2009 13:46

That is to say i am taking the ads dr prescribed but not working v frustrating to know i could get them in the uk. But only six weeks till dd is one and i would feel so upset at stopping now. As if i had been forced into it. Silly i know.
