Hi Laura, probably not teething. Usually teething babies are very drooly with very red cheeks. Alex also has little teeth buds that I can see - in fact I first saw one when he was only a few weeks old! - but think it will be a while before they start trying to push through. HTH. xx

(Copied from FB reply!)

Took Alex for jags today, no screaming during the first (just a look of shock) but plenty for the second! Poor lamb. Also he has done a poo for the first time in nearly a week, I don't know how he holds onto for so long but it doesn't seem to bother him.

Naat - You sound very organised with travelling! I am relieved not to have any travel plans right now, I don't think I could face any more upheaval! Enjoy your day out, it is lovely to have the good weather back.

bigcar · 05/08/2009 12:53

afternoon all

worried, sorry to hear about Caelans sunburn, don't worry we've all done daft things with our los, just check the earlier part of the thread Good to hear the shields are helping, don't worry about Caelan draining every last drop of milk before moving on to the other side, if you want to, try taking him off after say 20 mins, he'll soon let you know if he's not finished

MrsMcJnr, hope all's well with you Lol at those teenagers, I suppose at that age boobs have a very different purpose

choccie, I had to make one of my pics for all to view to get the others to be visible to my mn mates iyswim

loooouise, so pleased to hear it's not so grim up north good luck with the masters

june, a holiday sounds just the thing I have one of these does cold water and microwave sterlising, holds 2 bottles from what I remember. The doctor should check your uterus has gone back to its normal size from feeling your tummy just like they checked when we were pregnant, oh so long ago now I think they only adjust the charts for babies born outside of the 2 weeks either side of edd, it's mainly for prem babies, that's my understanding anyway Still thinking about a holiday [sigh]

laura, I saw a different hv the other week and felt the same, she looked most put out that I wasn't showing signs of pnd Hope Sarah has a better day today

silk and naat, lol don't think my boobs would get many hits somehow

naat, good luck with the dissertation

well, I put all Edwards 0-3 month clothes away yesterday, none of it fits anymore he's growing so quickly. I don't want him to stay a baby forever but a couple more weeks...... At least he's sleeping through now, makes for a happy and rested mummy

waves to all

lauraloo09 · 05/08/2009 12:54

littlesarah thank you for replying over the past few days se has been more drooly and sounds silly but it has been bubbly and her cheeks have ben redder. the hv just been and said it could be teething but it might still be a while before her first tooth cuts thro

HV just been and wont see her now until Sarah is 12weeks old. my post natal questionaire showed i have border line depression, i'm fine just need to keep an eye on how i am. i feel fine most days just the odd one that really gets me down

chocciedooby · 05/08/2009 14:20

loooouise · 05/08/2009 22:46

Hey lauraloo, glad today was much better for you; yesterday's 7am-9pm crying doesn't sound like fun. I hope the PND stays at bay and the odd difficult days become fewer and fewer. I reckon it's important to nip any potential PND in the bud before the dark winter months (specially the Scottish ones - I remember them well!) I don't know about your health authority, but in Hackney, PND sufferers are fast tracked for cognitive behavioral therapy, which by all accounts is v effective. Maybe worth enquiring to your HV? (Sorry if I sound too interfering..)

June my GP said I could cycle and swim but no running just yet...

LittleS thanks for replying...I'm sure it will get easier with babyfather. I've been making thank you cards for all the amazingly generous presents people have sent, including ones for his family. Anyway, today he rung and said that a lovely blanket he brought to the hospital actually wasn't from him at all, but was from his girlfriend! He then said he 'thought it would be nice' if I sent a thank you card from me to her. I agreed, but it does feel weird. Whilst I honestly feel no sexual jealousy towards her, I still don't really want to invite her into my life until I know how serious they're really going to be .

Naat - hey I'm about 45 mins from Leeds, just outside Harrogate, would be great to meet up one day. I'll be doing my MA at Leeds so will be there every Tuesday. You're in Huddersfield, right?

Bigcar lol at packing up Edwards 1-3 months...Ishbel's only just out of tiny baby! She was weighed today and is 8lbs 9oz so has put on 2lbs since birth (six weeks tomorrow)

Today I went to see my local vicar to book the christening. She won't let two of my friends be godparents bc they are Jewish...I didn't tell her that the father and I weren't (and have never been) in a relationship or that another (married with children) godparent was a closet lesbian, hahaha. Anyway, one thing I am sure of, babyfather's girlfriend is NOT coming to the christening...this is about our strange little family right now; the additions can come later.

Oooh, picked up Grazia on the train today, read that Jude Law has just found out he had got a 'special friend' pregnant and was to become a 'surprise dad', so looks like I've set a trend

silkcushion · 06/08/2009 07:10

hello all quick check in here.

Having a hectic time. DH is off work this week. I think we both imagined a lovely family time but we've managed to spend the whole week snapping at each other and being a couple of miserable gits. Dd1 has been really difficult (think the terrible two's may be striking early). DH is extremely stressed due to some serious problems with his older children. He (like most men) bottles stress up and becomes hard work to be around. Is it bad to be wishing the days away until he goes back to work?

We also have non stop visitors, my parents from Tuesday evening until Friday, followed by stepdaughter fri-sun and then my aunt and cousin sun-mon. Can't wait until I only have me and the girls to deal with again.

Sorry for the self obsessed whiney post.

ermintrude13 · 06/08/2009 09:17

silk what a bind having visitors when you're already a bit stressed. Hope you can grin and bear it - and that they're all sensitive to the fact you've got a lot on.

choccie what a cutie - lovely pics . And Tee Adam's features are really forming out of tiny baby. Gorgeous smooth skin too - Arthur is still getting spots .

loouise lol @ your trend-setting . I expect it feels particularly weird for babyfather's GF too, and if she hadn't sent a gift it might have seemed as though she was in denial about the whole thing rather than 'embracing', or at least accepting, the situation.

Did babyfather only just tell you about the blanket's provenance? Poor chap, I bet he was hoping to slip it in as something from him, in classic male stylee, and she made him phone to be sure you knew it was from her . Hope she understands how you need to be tentative at first and that she feels the same way.

Hi to everyone else and babies !

daisy5 · 06/08/2009 09:17

Hi all

Just a quick 'hello'.

silk & bunymother - yup - we were the same. Lots of snapping. Much better past 24 hours. We know we are on holiday in 4 weeks which helps.

june2009 - I have a three page document on travelling with children - but is more long haul. Let me know if you want it.

littlesarah - love the vision of Alexander licking the chocolate buttons. DD keeps poking Fraser in the face and grabbing him. The words 'gently' aren't having much impact!!!

louise - you are doing so well with handling the external family. I loved having a lot of family as a child, so Ishbel will probably thrive with all the attention.

naat & loouise - I'm in Manchester so small chance I could meet up to, although have a few visitors coming to stay from 10 days onwards. But let me know, just in case. It would be fun.

laura - if I had answered the questionnaire honestly with DD I would have been diagnosed as having post natal depression...but I didn't because I knew at the time I was suffering from exhaustion, as had a baby that cried 24/7, so I didn't feel like being misdiagnosed. On hindsight maybe I would have got more help if I had been honest, as I was struggling.

Well, mrsmcjnr - I wish I had never taken those b...... antibiotics. They have completely constipated poor Fraser and now I have gone out to buy Probiotics to try and get him tummy working properly again. erm I did ask the doctor 'do I have to take antibiotics?' and she said 'Yes'. Now I find out there were other alternatives - massaging, feeding through it etc. How annoying. And it turns out it is not thrush in his mouth and probably wasn't thrush infecting my breast!!!!

His internal plumbing was so good and now it is completely s up. I am so angry (or 'cross' as I say to my dd).

Have sent off paperwork for passport so hoping it isn't rejected.

Isn't this sun lovely. Might try and have a little picnic this afternoon.

Naat · 06/08/2009 09:35

Hi all!!!

Silk, so sorry your leisurely week did not turn up to be what you wanted. You are completely right there, men most times bottle up things instead of talking about them and that makes things worse I hope things get better these next few days and you stop having visitors and can enjoy just the 4 of you. (((hug)))

Loouise, oh we're really close! (well, not exaclty but YKWIM ) Aw a meet-up with the LOs in Leeds would be lovely! (on a non-uni day, when do you start?) Oh, I would feel just like you wrt babyfather's GF. I'd wait to see what role she plays in his life (longterm) before getting her involved in Ishbel's life (does that sound mean?) LOL at your vicar!! I guess it was right to keep the rest of the info to yourself Take care, trend-setter

Laura, Loouise's advice sounds good, maybe you could check with your HV if that's a possibility where you are? Glad the swing is working so well

Bigcar, Mila is too long she's wearing all the 3-6mth clothes but they are really big (I don't know how to say this in English) width-wise (?) I mean, the length is OK but the width is really big LOL. She looks too funny in most clothes Glad Edward is thriving and letting mummy sleep well!

LittleS, LOL at the poo I guess as long as he's OK and not in discomfort then it's fine but you have more experience than me Poor little lamb with the jabs! I'm not looking forward to Mila's. DH has to go with me as I cannot be in the room while the whole thing is taking place it's too much. (It was the same with my cat when she had to have a shot )

Right, loooovely day here, I'm soooo happy!!! I'm going for a walk with Mila for sure And I MUST make an appt with the hairdresser as I've been wearing a pony-tail since she was born
Good night here, 4.30hs of sleep in a row!

Does anyone know if taking a nap in the swing is bad for her? (because of the position, etc)

Have a lovely day Juners!!! (((waves)))

Naat · 06/08/2009 09:40

Daisy and Erm, xpost!

Erm, Hi!! Mila has spots as well

Daisy, another Juner near!! It'd be lovely to arrange a meet-up! I also have visitors coming but let's hope we can arrange something So sorry to hear about Fraser's constipation. at your doctor for telling you it was thrush when it seems it wasn't! Poor little lamb Hope he's better soon.

xxx

llynnnn · 06/08/2009 09:47

hi all

sorry i havent posted for a while, been so busy and dont know where the days go.

Isobel had her jabs on tues, i've never heard her scream so loud poor thing. she was ok after plenty of cuddles though. she now weighs 13lb and is 57cm long! she comfortably fits 3-6 mth sleepsuits, so wont be long before they are to small too! she is a very happy content baby though, always smiling and trying to 'talk' to us!

dd1's party went well she had a fantastic time and was spoilt by all her friends and family.

laura - i hope sarah is much more settled today and the pnd stays away for you

daisy - hope Fraser's belly sorts itself out, dont beat yourself up about taking the tablets, you have to do what is right at the time

littlesarah - lol at alex having his first taste of chocolate! good that dd is sharing so nicely!

silk - whenever dh has a lot of time off work we always seem to end up bickering! hope things settle down and the visitors give u a bit of peace

loouise - you have reminded me i really need to sort out the christening! pleased to hear things are going well for you

tee & choccie - gorgeous pics of your little bundles

hi to everyone else, dd2 is ready for MORE milk!

ermintrude13 · 06/08/2009 15:26

Naat if Mila is a long slim baby she might be best off with trousers and tee-shirts in 0-3 months - things which don't have poppers at the crotch. It won't matter if the trousers are a bit short but the clothes won't swamp her either.

MrsMcJnr · 06/08/2009 16:04

Hey ladies how are you all. Had Aaliyah at the haematologist this morning. I thought that when we were in hospital after she was born that they?d taken blood to test for my Thrombophilia but it turns out that they didn?t and they needed 8 vials to test with so on the basis that the condition is only an issue in later life or after operations etc we opted to wait until she is older to test. I in the meantime need to get my Protein S levels checked as they are not happy with my readings from April, let?s hope they come back clear as I don?t want to be permanently medicated or anything like that.

Not sure if I said but when we saw the pediatrician last month she gave me a list of optional injections that I might want to give Aaliyah. They include the PCV (Prevenar) which is not on the state schedule here. All in all they would have cost me 500 euros so we have opted to give her the PCV as we do think that is important but it is going to set us back 79 euros each dose and as you know there are 3! Can you imagine in the UK if the GP handed you a list of injections that they recommended that your child had outwith the state schedule that would cost you £500, there?d be uproar!!

Went shocking with my Mum today and she treated Xavier to a new pair of shoes, his feet have grown 2 sizes since the summer began!

Right, will try to catch up

MrsMcJnr · 06/08/2009 23:28

Hello Looouise I love how happy you are it is so lovely to hear what you say about Ishbel I am also delighted for you at besotted the baby father is but like you, I do feel sorry for his girlfriend, it must be very hard for her mustn?t it? Very impressed at your Masters plans. I do admire you and Naat and Little Sarah for your academic motivations, I have no motivation to do anything beyond motherhood at the mo DH and I do seem to be having a better week one of his mates is over from the UK at the mo and he is going through a really messy, sad divorce so DH might also realise what side his bread is buttered on Have a blast on your London trip!

Worriedamy ? have you started healing at all yet hon? I hope so.

Hey there Tee love the yoga pose

Hey Ermintrude

Littlesarah ? let us know how you get on at baby cinema! Don?t worry about your MIL. You are a fabulous mother and whatever you decide to do is in the best interests of your children. I hope your DH is back to his usual self now LOL at the choc button story, I had a fit last year when MIL wanted to give DS a buttons Easter egg aged 9 weeks! Been waiting for a poo for a few days here too.

Naat ? what?s the story with the neighbours?? Hope you had fun in Leeds I?ve had my hair in a pony tail for 18 months now

Choccie ? gorgeous photos what a sweetie!

June ?How exhausting having the relies over so much I had a pop up cot for DS when he was 3 months and we went to the BVI it was fabulous. We used it as a bed then and then later in the summer on the beach as it had a mozie net and factor 50 protection. I?ve used it with DD already, can highly recommend it. Also, I got a Lavender Lamb carry play mat form ELC and it is fab, it folds up into a cushion size and can be handy as a pillow too. Tupperware box and Milton tablets are also the way to go. We also took the car seat, gave me piece of mind traveling and was also useful as a seat for short periods of time. They started plotting Aaliyah?s weight here on the EDD line too even though she was 6 days later. Glad all went well at the 6 week check though I can understand your annoyance at his inability to remember your details Sorry to hear about the exercise delay, I want to get started but never get a chance. They check your uterus by palpitating your stomach as they can tell if it has gone back to its usual size by doing that.

Bunnymother ? don?t you dare beat yourself up about feeding; you are doing a great job for Delie! isn?t it funny how we all like different things? I didn?t get on at all well with Dr Brown?s bottles with DS, they all leaked around the neck. I like the Tommee Tippee (sp!) ?closer to nature? ones. Hope you and DH are less snappy Hope Delie has a good night.

Laura ? hope Sarah is having a better day today.

Bigcar - I need to put the 0-3 month clothes away too great that Edward is sleeping through Aaliyah did 11pm-6.30am last night but every night is different

Silkcushion ? sorry to heat family time isn?t panning out the way you?d hoped.

Daisy ? sorry to hear about poor Fraser?s constipation how are you feeling?

Llynnn ? sounds like Isobel is coming on really well I?m dreading Aaliyah?s jags, its horrible isn?t it

daisy5 · 07/08/2009 08:47

Day 3 of constipation and poor Fraser is miserable and wailing. I hate this and wish I had never touched those stupid antibiotics. I find it hearbreaking MrsMc & naat - are your little ones in a lot of pain? His tummy area is so hard and I peddle his wee legs furiously to try and get things going....but nothing so far.

Last night he fed at 8pm, then woke at 12:15 but very briefly, then not again until 5am!!!!! Amazing.

daisy5 · 07/08/2009 08:48

He probably isn't waking to feed, because he can't poo it out!!!!

Reminds me of that playground joke about sticking a cork up corgi's bum, to win a no pooing competition.

Naat · 07/08/2009 09:01

Morning Juners!

Mrsmc, great night for Aaliyah! We're still having different patterns at night as well Last night it was the second one of 4hs in a row! (neighbours story below )

Ermin, I wish! T-shirts are fine, but 0-3 trousers are too short now She's really long and as soon as she moves a bit suddenly you see her nappy How are you? Hope you're having good days Do you have any idea about my swing question?

Llynn, hi! glad to hear from you again. It's amazing how they "talk", isn't it? Mila talks to the fish that hang from her swing ALL THE TIME Glad dd's party was great

Hi to all the rest of the juners!

Right, nightmare neighbours... We live in a new development of houses and small buildings (3 floors), it's lovely, absolutely beautiful. We moved to a ground floor in the building right opposite to the one we were in, remember? Well, the flat is lovely, a comfy size, loads of light, nothing to complain about it. However, the neighbours are one worse than the other We have a "hallucinogenic substances seller" to be subtle, right opposite our flat. He's really nice, lovely guy, but the company that he attracts is not and you have cars and people coming ALL the time. Above us we have a British couple that have massive (and when I say massive I mean MASSIVE) rows every other night (or day, afternoon, whenever). They slam doors so hard that Mila wakes up to give you an idea of how hard they do it. You can actually follow their "conversation" as they argue with each other soooo loudly and the guy has a thing for electronic music (which is fine) and he blasts his audio system every single afternoon for 2-3 hours and believe me, the bass sound makes everything vibrate It's just awful. Last, but not least, we have the fact that everyone leaves both the back and front doors open all the time. THey are so bloody lazy to take their keys with them that they think it's much easier to leave them open THey even broke the lock of the back door so as not to have to take their keys and now it bounces back of course. I can't believe they cannot be civil! To top all this last Wednesday there was a burglary at 4pm on one of the flats of the first floor... that day I arrived home back from Bradford at 3.30pm so I WAS HERE WITH MILA! I guess the guys went to the flat that was empty, as they saw my blinds open Aaaanyway, we're fed up with all this and these people and of course we have to think of moving AGAIN even though the flat is great I look like those old ladies that complain all the time as I've had to write soooo many times to the letting agency complaining about these things They just cannot seem to be able to do something about it, which is even more disappointing. Sorry this was so long

On a happy note, I had my hair cut!! Soooo happy about it, you have no idea Now I have to dye it

Hope you have a lovely day, Juners! (((waves)))

LittleSarah · 07/08/2009 09:02

We had jags on Wednesday MrsMcJNr, it's always horrible to see the poor wee faces and then, the crying, eek. We did however get two poos on the same day (after a week!), of course none since then!

Oh, and Alex was weighed at the HVs and is now 11.12, so pretty much on target.

We were out at the Fringe yesterday (the Pleasance) and I saw my first celeb [saddo alert]! It was a lovely afternoon, sunny and warm and Molly was in a show with a friend of mine, suddenly a wee man ran past me and I heard him say 'I see you on telly sometimes.' Who was it? Recently suspended from the BBC's the One Show for dodgy behaviour? Going through a big divorce? Clue; he was wearing a purple turban (plus combats!). Yup, Hardeep Singh Koli! Not exactly huge but these are the types you tend to spot at the Fringe (Marcus Brigstoke last year).

It is strange when you are in so much in the evenings and you go out and see that there is actually loads going on in the world. Has inspired me to try and see a couple of things. I might take my mum to see four poofs and a piano (really enjoyed their show a couple of years back) and quite fancy Reginald D Hunter (was going to see him last year but dh was really ill and ended up missing it).

Sun is out here again, making the most of it for hanging out the laundry! Hope you all have lovely days!

LittleSarah · 07/08/2009 09:18

Daisy - I am so sorry Fraser is struggling with his bowels! Although Alex hardly seems to poo I don't think he is constipated as he as he is totally happy and HV told me some babies do hold on to it at this age for days at a time. It is strange though.

Naat - X-post! Ugh your neighbours sound awful! I could not cope with that. Luckily my street is very quiet, lots of old folks and families. I am not surprised you want to move, sometimes I think it is the only thing you can do. Really sorry that you might have to do that though, I have moved 5 times in last 5 years so believe me I understand the pain!

Like you and Mila Alex is still not sleeping to a pattern, last night not so good for us but having our evenings back helps me cope! Still it isn't too dreadful...

MrsMcJnr To update you we have a poo here! Lol

Ooh, actually, reuseable nappy users! I know you already discussed this but could you repeat yourself for me? How do you deal with nappy stains? Nappysan seems to ring a bell with me? But what/how? What with so little pooing I haven't noticed a problem up til now.

chocciedooby · 07/08/2009 18:02

Naat - your neighbours sound terrible. I would cut your losses and try and move somewhere else but of course try to check out the neighbours there too if you can
Don't like the sound of the druggie guy and the rows upstairs would drive me crazy. Door slamming etc....aaarrrhhh.....It's so unfair, especially that they are so inconsiderate with you having a newborn etc.

Hi Mrsmc, Littlesarah, Daisy and everyone else

Elina had her last feed at 10.30pm last night and slept from 11pm until 6.30am!!!! This is happening a couple of times a week now so we are truly blessed. I am getting lots of rest and feeling pretty good at the moment.

We have a weeks holiday to look forward to soon

Lovely day here today. Had a friend over with her kids to play. Summer Holidays are flying by.

I have Elina booked in for a hip scan next Tuesday and I'm beginning to wonder if I am wasting my time. The paediatritian never mentioned that there was a problem at her 6 week check up but because there is family history (cousin and niece)of clicky hip we were booked in for the scan. The thing is it will cost us about e100+ and I am wondering if she really needs the test at all. Decisions decisions....

ermintrude13 · 07/08/2009 20:16

MrsMc and Choccie I'm so glad we have the NHS, flawed though it is. Having to make decisions about treatments that cost is awful!

choccie fab sleeping from Elina!

Naat I can't bear noisy neighbours and your drug-dealing chap sounds a nightmare. If you can't make any changes to the situation you may have to go just for your own peace and sanity.

Well done for haircut - got mine booked for end August and am expressing little bits of milk every now and then for those two hours or so when daddy may need to give a bottle. I think he's quite looking forward to it, hope Arthur takes it; his brother never would.

Daisy poor little Fraser - but another bit of good sleeping.

Had a friend up from London today with her 11 month old boy, who is absolutely gorgeous and made Arthur look like a teeny newborn. And they kindly left us 2 huge bags of his clothes

LittleSarah · 08/08/2009 08:37

ermin - You use resuseables don't you? Any washing advice? I hope Arthur takes the bottle for your haircut, luckily for me Alex does, I do like a wee break here and there!

choccie - You are a lucky lady with that sleeping pattern! No good advice re the clicky hips, it must be so hard weighing these things up.

Right, got to make some fairy cakes with dd to take to my cousin's this afternoon, hope everyone has lovely days.
