sophietom - that's awful!! Poor you to end up feeling so uncomfortable in your own home!! Thank goodness they were only there for the day!

LoobyLou36 · 06/07/2009 11:43

I know what u mean about the bfing sophietom I feel that I make some relatives uncomfortable when I bf in front of them and really try to do it more discreetly but its not always possible as M fusses so much. It sometimes feel like I'm fighting her

M is wearing a really cute outfit today that my lovely aunt brought back from the states, she brought loads of things all different sizes tho which is good - must take some pics today

LoobyLou36 · 06/07/2009 11:44

finally managed to have a lovely long hot shower, tried out some new shampoo and conditioner that's made my hair smell lovely

little things...

LoobyLou36 · 06/07/2009 11:45

right must go and sort something tasty out for dinner in an effort to cheer dh up

Febes · 06/07/2009 13:46

Having a good day here so far which is good as I was feeling quite depressed and like I wasn't coping on the weekend. DH and I had a fight but we have made up now. DS isn't sleeping in the evenings and is still waking every 3 hours or less in the night. He is sometimes doing one stretch of 4 hours but not every night. DDs behaviour is hard work. Yesterday I was like super mum doing finger painting, making eggy bread together, blowing bubbles in the garden etc. She was much better for all the positive attention but it takes lots of time and energy. DH is working around the clock and I miss him and have to deal with both DCs by myself all the time.

I'm looking forward to our holiday in sept just so I have DH with me all week.

Even though we have had sex a few times I haven't got much of a sex drive and feel really unsexy. My boobs are huge, white and vainy and need to be in a bra 24 hours a day. My tummy is still big, flabby and covered in stretch marks.

Sorry I have started and can't seem to stop unloading now.

I do feel better today though and my DCs are so gorgeous and so much fun to be with but life isn't easy.

sophietom sorry to hear you had a stressful visit.. I'd have been devilish and dislodged g temporarily from my boob and followed them to the dining room.. i've managed to bf on a dining room chair as long as i can park a foot on a table leg shame the folks were embarrassed and making you feel horrid. maybe it's a generation thing as formula was the done thing and bf was considered very hippyish..

oops! sorry for the double

llareggub · 06/07/2009 15:42

I am NOT happy. My period is back! I thought I'd get a bit longer due to breastfeeding. And like clockwork I've craved chocolate too.

FiKelly · 06/07/2009 15:45

oh llareggub that's pants

pulapula · 06/07/2009 15:55

Afternoon ladies.

Just when I thought S was getting more settled, in the last week I have been really struggling to get him to nap for more than 30 mins (even in a sling or on me) when he was previously having up to 2.5 hour naps in his cot or on me . What is strange is he sleeps well at night (on Sat night he slept a record 6 hours in his cot from 7pm-1am ) although last evening we had to keep going in to him as he was crying in his sleep. He's not particularly hungry as i keep checking if he wants more milk. I guess there are other babies who dont nap much in the day but its just strange when i know he used to. Anyone got any advice? I keep worrying he's overtired but he doesn't show any signs of tiredness until he's been up about 2 hours sometimes. He's swaddled and has a dummy.

runningmonkey · 06/07/2009 17:02

sophietom - re your ILs visit. not nice to feel awkward in your own house. Its no excuse but I think its definitely a generational thing as Fi says. I got a big tut off some 50ish couple in a cafe the other week... grrr. Ooh saw your pics on fb - J is soooo cute.

Pula - no advice but some sympathy - A is napping during the day but not at night unless we hold her. She is definitly tired tho, yawning, etc and I wory she is getting herself really overtired. A sleeps best either on us or in a moving pram - will S sleep if you go out for a walk?

llare - pants indeed

I feel like I've achieved something today as have had A in first reusable nappies. Am using flats so she' been in muslins today with wraps. Seems to be working well. We're going to stick with disposables at night for now tho until she us big enough for the thick bamboo flats I bought.

Also joined the library which has been on my list since I started mat leave

Hope everyone else is ok. sorry if missed anyone. x x

SpangleMaker · 06/07/2009 17:04

Hi all, name check amnesty for me please as wedged on sofa in uncomfy position due to H asleep against me. He is having a funny day, been sleepy practically all day - he does this from time to time - and sneezing quite a lot. am thinking he might have a bit of a cold

Momino congrats on the new 21!

detsy Hellooo!! I was going to see if you were up for meeting last week but things got ahead of me as usual. How are you fixed this wk, or next? We def must meet up soon and have a natter.

pula I think they keep changing over the first few months, my theory is it's in line with development stages. H is usually a short napper, having 4/5 naps of 45min but then has days like today when he wants to spend the whole day asleep on me. If S doesn't seem tired then I'm sure it's not a problem, he'll sleep when he's ready. It's easier on us mums when they have long naps though!

The earlier bed-time thing seems to have worked quite well for H. Yesterday evening he slept from 8.30pm to 2.30am - possibly a record I think his/my problem was over-tiredness. I now watch him like a hawk for tired signs.

Having said that I'm going to have to keep him up this evening (good job he's slept all day!) as we are going to an NCT ante-natal class to talk to nervous first-time parents-to-be about how difficult stressful easy it all is

FiKelly · 06/07/2009 17:08

pula would he fall asleep in a more upright position like a bouncy chair? wondering if it's a case of bad wind.. could be overtired as the more tired they get the less they sleep..

SpangleMaker · 06/07/2009 17:18

Re bf-ing in front of family - with PIL (and a friend of DH's & his DW who wouldn't bf her DS because its 'ewww!' ) I take H into the next room, but if we're out with them then he just has to get fed wherever. My brother was a bit funny about it too and appeared to think I might want to bf H in the bathroom of my own home when he visited the other day and again!

llareggub · 06/07/2009 17:29

pula what fi said. G sleeps a lot better in his bouncy chair and in our bed. He will not sleep for more than half an hour or so in his crib. It is very odd indeed, although he is still the incredible sleeping baby, which is probably why my periods have returned.

We've been to the library as well today, as part of my economy drive due to DH's job loss. I've also halved the Ocado bill and swapped to Waitrose Deliver, which is free delivery. I have to stick to online shopping as I find it easier to budget. DH had a promising meeting workwise today so we aren't panicking just yet.

I've also lost 3 pounds which is marvellous for my health but isn't going to help my economising because at this rate I'll have nothing to wear!

I have a mountain of ironing to do. Not sure when I'll find the time to do it...

pulapula · 06/07/2009 17:43

Thanks for the advice. S will sometimes sleep in his pushchair or car (sometimes he will just scream) but only if they keep moving . I have to keep moving with the sling too. I put him in his car seat today (asleep and swaddled) and still only 30 mins. I put him on the bed too as its easier to lower him onto it and he is used to sleeping there at night. I haven't tried bouncy chair but might give it a go tomorrow. I have been doing the BW shush/pat to get him to sleep in his cot but it just doesn't result in big naps anymore. I'm hoping when he has his jabs on Weds they will make him sleepy or at least if he is grizzly, the calpol will .

alapala · 06/07/2009 19:53

Greetings from madrid

All well here, though chaos still reigns. We are doing well, largely due to having much help. Still baking hot, hot, hot, but we have aircon so we're fine, albeit with a snuffly baby..

Looby - sheepskin good in heat, though all spaniards will stop you to tell you its too warm (HA!) and washes fine on wool setting in the machine!

flippineck · 06/07/2009 20:24

Evening all!

pula - no real advice for you, but big sympathy. A is still doing the catnapping thing so I know how you feel - most days she'll only sleep for 10-15 minutes at a yime unless she is being held by someone, or in the sling (and moving, like S!). Every now and again she'll sleep longer some wher else but I have no way of knowing where or when! She's not wildly fond of the pram, the car seat some times works, my bed is reasonably successful but not always and her basket is no-hoper during the day. The sling is the only one guranteed to work. Nights are better, but she still won't go to sleep before 10 at the earliest.

alapala - hello! long time no see/hear.

llaregub - boo to periods! But yay to weight loss!

We're surrounded by people who have been exposed to swine flu. How long before any of us getting? Hoping we don't, DH has asthma (although is very healthy), and of course we have toddler and a baby. I'm not significant, my only job is to keep them all fed in various ways.

Crap typing, sorry - feeding again!

flippineck · 06/07/2009 20:25

'getting'? Meant 'get it' of course.

Momino · 06/07/2009 22:06

Hi all. had tried to post earlier but MN went funny and it disappeared .

sophietom, v annoying that your family makes you feel so uncomfortable with BF. In my case, I won't BF in front of my in laws so when they're here, i do go into my bedroom. not sure if they'd mind anyway but I just don't want to feed in front of them. Funny, i feel more comfortable BF in public in front of people I don't know .

alapala, good to see you and hope you're well.

Hosp called today to say they want to see Harper for her hip assessment tomorrow instead of waiting for the appt they'd set for mid aug. Fine except I have all 3 children and tomorrow is a bit late to get a babysitter and I would have to get a bus. palaver. the lady was insistent so I've accepted the appointment and found a babysitter for dd2 (will take dd1 with me and H).

i was a bit annoyed they expected me to drop everything to take the appointment for tomorrow even though it is a big hassle. however, i really want to get her hip checked out asap.

hiya alapala great to hear from you our recent hot hot temps have prob been nothing like yours but would have loved your air con

FiKelly · 07/07/2009 08:02

momino good luck with the hip appointment.

I've got my old health visitor coming round at 11am today to do my post natal mental health thing.. then g and I are off to the doctors this afternoon for our 6wk check. it's been pouring with rain all this am so looks like i'll get a bit wet walking down to the surgery if it's like this later

Tummum · 07/07/2009 08:08

Morning all, hope you are all well.

Well, G had his second 6 week check yesterday, and this time it was much more thorough. We've been referred to hospital for an ultrasound on G's hips so I am relieved we are finally in the system after much messing about. Hope your appointment goes ok Monimo. Llare I am in your area again today to catch up with a friend (and buy some camping stuff for holiday at a near-ish massive camping shop. Boo to periods too.

Speaking of periods, do you get periods if you are BFing but on the mini-pill?

Have a nice day everyone.

FiKelly · 07/07/2009 08:59

tummum not sure about mini pill and periods hope the scan date comes through quickly for g's hips.
