June 2007 They're (almost all) two which makes them hard work in a whole new range of ways. But just as adorable!

Unable to sleep thought I'd see what had been going on and saw we were due a new thread. Hope this is OK?

did your friend mention to the hospital they had had contact with a new baby and a high-risk adult?

LittleMissNorty · 17/07/2009 09:51

Naaty, all NHS staff have just received an e-mail about the flu as they are setting up a new pandemic service next week. In amongst it all it says:

It remains the case that those people identified as being at greater risk of serious complications, including all children under one year old, will be advised to contact their GP.

In the meantime, if you are concerned that a friend, relative or colleague has swine flu, you should advise them to:

· Stay at home

· Check their symptoms as soon as possible on www.nhs.uk or

· Call the Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513513 to hear the latest advice

· If they have taken these steps and are still concerned, call NHS Direct or their GP for advice on next steps, so that their GP can prescribe antivirals if necessary, ideally within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms and

· Advise them not to go to A&E unless they are seriously ill.

If you do experience symptoms, you can help yourself by staying at home, following the advice above, resting, drinking plenty of fluids and taking over the counter flu remedies to relieve symptoms. If your condition worsens you should contact your GP.

A sustained temperature of 38 or more will mean you need to ring the GP - but you would anyway. Have you got a thermometer?

Don't panic. You will be priotised if there are any problems.

TheNatty · 17/07/2009 10:14

ive got a bunch of those hospital ones you use once and chuck.
i know im BU but im really annoyed dh has gone out still, esp as i was up all night with ds2.

LackaDAISYcal · 17/07/2009 11:23

Natty, there is some information on the NCT website and the BfN website about swine flu and breastfeeding and antivirals.

Just be vigilant and make sure you're scrupulous about handwashing etc. I'd also not let anyone pick the baby up until they have washed their hands and used some anti-bac gel. I don't normally worry about stuff like that, but with this flu around I think it's fine to be extra cautious.

lol at educated tramps! I watched a programme that showed that a lot of tramps are people that are highly intelligent, but who just couldn't cope with life sochoose to drop out.

Had to come home early from stay and play. DD is not right at all. she has a bit of a temp and a runny nose and is super sensitive. She was hiding behind me when passing people in the street this morning, and crying if anyone so much as looked at her. Very odd and out of character. I hope it isn't swine flu....there are more cases at school now, including some children that we were mixing with last weekend.

TheNatty · 17/07/2009 11:28

does anyone know what a temp in a newborn is? his temp atm is 37.5-38 (checking every half hour or so) his normal temp is 37 (was monitering it for the gbs)

ellen has just told me she is poorly, and is curled up next to me with her dummy (which she never asks for during the day) she is asking for medicine

LittleMissNorty · 17/07/2009 11:42

Anything up to 38 is fine Natty. What is DDs temperature? I thought you'd got rid of dummies? I wish I could (although its only a night thing here now)

Hope DD is ok Daisy....there is loads of it around here now, and tbh I'm resigned to the fact we'll all get it, but as long as I get anti-virals for the 2 DCs (which I would), I'm ok about it. Have a digital thermometer, loads of calpol and neurofen and plenty of stuff for me and DH. My only concern really is being ill at the same time as the DCs as I don't have anyone to call on.

TheNatty · 17/07/2009 11:47

yes up until last week we had, but the last week shes been refusing to go to bed without one (most likely cos charlie has one at night) i am to shattered to care to be honest i just want her to go bed so i can

no temp in dd, i can tell by feeling her she is always VERY hot if she gets one.

doodle do is on daisy

LittleMissNorty · 17/07/2009 11:50

That's good Natty - no temp, no flu! Perhaps she's got tummy ache or something.

My DD refused to go down for a morning nap (because Show Me, Show me was on) so I'm looking forward to a quiet couple of hours when she's in bed after lunch

TheNatty · 17/07/2009 11:52

mine obsessed with that show too!!

TheNatty · 17/07/2009 12:55

ive got to go a&e, docs got no appointments, and a recent swab of my stitches is showing GBS, so ive got to go have him checked. his temp is now 38.5, so as its steadliy rising and he is off his feeds as well they have told me to go in.

will be on later to let you know.

TheNatty · 17/07/2009 14:17

temp gone down to 37..
we have decided not to go in, but DH is coming home now. he seems fine again so i dont really know what that was about, or if it was a dodgy result on the thermometer.

i hate all this swine flu stuff, makes me all paranoid and panicky.

LittleMissNorty · 17/07/2009 14:25

It is worrying Natty, but you just need to be prepared. You should get a decent thermometer - I have one that pops in their ear which doesn't even disturb them when asleep. And stock up on calpol and neurofen. And as soon as they get a fever, ring the GP - you won't need an appointment - they'll ring you and do most of it over the phone.

Glad he's ok.

Onthat e-mail I put in earlier, there is a hotline number and web address for more info.

LackaDAISYcal · 17/07/2009 14:28

I hoope they're all well natty; as Norty said, 38 is fine, but anything over that is a fever. From what's been going on round here, the illness itself isn't actually that bad, although obviously Charlie being so young means it's a big worry.

Can I say though, that Charlie having a dummy so young might be adding to your recent BF worries as the way they suck on a dummy is different to the suckling needed to get milk. Also at this young age, any sucking they want to be doing is generally because they want and need milk and giving them a dummy means they might not get all the milk they need and your body needs to produce to get BFing established. I would try and hold off giving him a dummy until BFing has been going well for a good few weeks.

TheNatty · 17/07/2009 14:40

yes dummy is not given often at all, but for the few days when i was needing to express of one side it was useful for keeping him from screaming the place down while i expressed his feed.

the lady from the breastfeeding group rang me to check on me going again next week to double check latch is still right.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/07/2009 15:24

Sorry you've had such a stressy day Natty. I would also recommend a decent thermometer. We got one of the ear ones and although it wasn't cheap we wouldn't be without it. And as has been said, although it is worrying with Charlie being so young, the symptoms of swine flu don't tend to be so bad. So don't let the "swine" bit scare you - it's just a variation of flu. And if he is ill, swine flu, normal flu or otherwise, with him being so young you will get priority treatment and they will take you seriously if you ring your GP concerned about fever or whatever.

We went to the children's centre and I got soaked on the way there. They had to find me ablanket to wear while me skirt hung up to dry! We were the only ones there though, so it didn't matter that I looked a little odd. And Jamlet made a lovely butterfly picture, sticking bits of card and paper etc onto a butterfly shaped piece of paper. She was really getting the hang of putting the glue on the bits and sticking them to the paper

LackaDAISYcal · 17/07/2009 16:03

Sorry, Natty, I hope I didn't sound bossy there! And it's great that you are getting good support from your local team.

WE got thoroughly soaked on the school run, but DD wore her souwester and wellies and splashed in puddles all the way there. bumble was under the raincover, but when I took him out the pram his socks were wet . Not sure how that happened!

DS1 made the Wall of Fame and got the last Headteacher's award of the year ....myabe thie wine and chocolate were the right presents after all

HellHathNoFury · 17/07/2009 16:04

glad you had a good time Jammy. We went to a coffee morning at someone's house and DS went on to totally trash the joint. Not like him...sigh

LackaDAISYcal · 17/07/2009 16:35

oh dear fury.....have you been invited back?

For Jammy

I had to hunt google for a picture that didn't involve Americans breeding them for other Americans to just shoot them .

HellHathNoFury · 17/07/2009 16:45

Nope, not been invited back, but we have to go back anyway as I left something there!

It's not like him, usually he is really good, but for some reason he saw fit to trash everything. He did say thank you though

There was a woman there with a baby all drooly and babyish and I asked how old he was... she said 'oh I always get asked that because he's so big for his age! He's only 15 months!'

I had a big face because I honestly though he was about 6 months, he was in a babygro and chewing fists and no hair etc. I am not sure if she noticed... all up, not a good day for making friends and influencing people

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/07/2009 16:51

We had one of the boys at Jamlet's party keep coming into the house on his own and trashing playing with her toys. At one point he even let himself out of the front door and almost got onto the road before I spotted him . On that day I disliked him intensely (and his mother who didn't seem to care) but they were round here yesterday (they called to drop off some bits and I invited them in) and all was well, so there is hope yet Fury

Thanks Daisy

HellHathNoFury · 17/07/2009 16:55

Yeah DS let himself out the front door.

Bless him.

Usually he is a delight... well ok, not THAT great but he is usually pretty good!

He is being a superstar now as well. wonder what caused the meltdown. Odd child.

It's DH's B'day on Sunday but nothing has arrived thanks to postal strikes, poor bastard, and I haven't got him anything since we have no money.

Rialentless · 17/07/2009 18:33

you can make him a cake and have a tea party fury?

pah to getting wet, we avoided it (thanks to my dad

DS2s prezzies of terracotta pts painted pael grren with green beads glued round the rim and borage plants in the went down well. His TA was a bit teary today.
DS1 bought his favourtie teacher (an ex-marine supply teacher) a rosette with Worlds Best Teacher on it (from the show. I think he was touched too.

Tesco have ITNG aquadraw mats for under £4.

DS1 gone swimming with youth club.

HellHathNoFury · 17/07/2009 18:53

Not sure hubby is into tea parties and INTG aquadraw mats but I know he won't say no to cake and BJ's

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 18/07/2009 09:06

Jamlet is sitting in her chair in the litchen watching DH make latte and toast for his breakfast. I can hear him giving her a running commentry. "The hot water is forced through the coffee in here and comes out into these tiny cups" etc I felt obliged to go give her a "good listener" sticker from her Waybuloo magazine

Speaking of which she is really cute when she tries to copy the yoga on Waybuloo

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 18/07/2009 09:12

jammy, bless her.

DH and DS1 still in bed here. I have a headache (had chinese takeaway last night, Dsis always gets a headache after chinese too). baggins and DS2 have had a fight already, baggins hs propped the trampoline up on the sofa and is driving cars down it then sliding down after them. Suppose I should feed them, then I have to go to the shp for brown paper and tape and do some ebay parcelling. The I have to buy stuff on ebay, and then find more stuff to list

we were going to the RSPB reserve to look at the puffins, but it's foggy so not much point. I do have to go to Morrisons to buy the stuff Tesco didn't have.

exciting day!
