Just a quickie...Lydia don't worry about using the Dakatrin on Bill. They only recently changed the age recommendation to 4 months due to choking hazards (it was ok to use from birth when I had DS1 4 yrs ago and we had thrush). Just make sure he is upright and it dissolves. We have thrush again too! BOO! Get the fluconzale (can't spell it sorry) if you can. BFN website has all the info.

Gillyan have a great camping trip!!!!

Jetli pls let me know how you get on. I hope Hetty settles.

Night all

Hi everyone,

Sorry I disappeared for a bit.

I went to a breastfeeding clinic yesterday and discovered that thrashing on the boob means their latch is bad. So perhaps it might be an idea to check that with a professional? If the latch is good they pretty much calmly suck away I discovered. I learn that the hard way through some very painful mastitis!

Hope everyone is well

xx

Well I am glad I took my HV's advice and made a doctors appt for my lady bits sooner rather than later - I have an abscess where my stitches were externally! I am on antibiotics (ok with bf) and have to see her again next week when Isaac is having his jabs.

Can't believe I was going to leave it a few more weeks to see if it settled

lydiathetattooedlady · 28/08/2009 22:39

WARNING EMOTIONAL MOAN
well i spoke to my dads wife who is a HV (notice, not step mum, dads WIFE!) we dont get on but after neither my gp Nor HV rang me back today thought i better speak to her! she advised me to use the gel on my nipples as well between feeds to act as a barrier. bill is really not feeding well. i feel so guilty as i think he's probably had it for a while. i noticed he had a white tongue but because he was sick so much put it down to that but it was most likely thrush. have ended up giving him 2 bottles today as im in absolute agony, it seems worse than when i had very deep splits in my nipples when feeding dd and almost on a par with when i had my nipples pierced! i think he's having trouble latching on properly what with his already sore mouth and slight tongue tie. have expressed abit of milk but dont seem to be able to get much off, have ended up crying at my mums because of the pain. I was quite shocked to find my 'local' breastfeeding support group is 17 miles away!! there is nothing for breast feeding woman where i live its shocking. no wonder no-one i know who has had babies here have breast fed at all or for only a short time!
any way emotional moan over!
mum&babygroups i think i must live in hill-billy-ville as none apart from a
reading one at our library run out of term. time. thankfully i think they start next week yippee!
slleping im also jealous of those of you getting long periods of sleep, its every 2 hours give or take 15 minutes here! thankfully after seeing the sleep nurse dd has slept through everynight in her own bed since last thurs yippee! think it must have been the drink of milk she was always asking for that was the trigger, i leave a beaker of water at her bed now.
anyway im off to let rub my nipples with cream hurrah!

QueenFee - It wasn?t me who?s baby didn?t like the Phil and Teds - mine loves it - we have the baby cocoon borrowed from a friend and he?s really cosy in there - it is super for carting him around in.

Bras - I went to Bravissimo yesterday and bought two new nursing bras - they are amazing! My boobs are back up on my chest not round my knees and I have a shape! Woo hoo! Very comfortable too!

I?ve just phoned the NCT breastfeeding helpline as I am struggling a lot. Baby fusses so much when feeding. Feeds for 2 minutes then pulls off and cries and wails and arches his back, then on again and pecking like a chicken then off again. It is soooooo tiring and stressful. The councilor thinks he?s a fussy baby and needs holding a lot and that maybe my letdown is fast and he doesn?t like that and he?s getting lots of wind. So she recommends getting a sling and carrying him round. I?m going to go to a sling meet on Wednesday to try and find a suitable sling. Fingers crossed!

Oh and to all you mums feeling guilty about giving baby a bottle of EBM - what have you to be guilty about? it's still Breast milk. And even if now and again you're giving formula you need to be able to have a break. With DD I left it far too late to try a bottle (12 weeks) and she flat-out refused to take a bottle. It was a amassive struggle with all different types of teats and faffing about but there was NO WAY. So I didn't get a break of more than 4 hours from her for at least 6 months . This time I have started early and DS has taken his first 2 bottles and I am going to keep it up so I have a stand-by position.

Hello everyone, it is so quiet on here...hope it means that you are all off enjoying the bank holiday. its been fab weather here so we have made the most of it.

At last Max seems to be getting into a bit of a routine, although the other night he decided to be up from 2-6 which wasn't much fun! He seems to go from 8.30 till 10.30 when we wake him for a bottle, then sleeps till about 3, then after a feed sleeps till about 5.30. After that he refuses to go back in his cot and sleeps on me, sleeping and feeding on and off until about 8.30. Pretty good really. It will all change on friday though when the big ones go back to school and we have to be up at 7am .

ActivityApple lucky you saying goodbye to your inlaws. mine arrive on friday which I am dreading, but luckly we don't have a spare room any more so they have to stay in a hotel! I knew having a 3rd baby was a brilliant idea!!

Hope you are all ok. xxx

Gillyan · 31/08/2009 20:03

Heloooo everyone! Not had time to read all the posts yet but will catch up when I have a mo.

Just wanted to stop in and say hi! We've got back from 5 days camping! Can't believe I did it with a 3 n half yr old and a 9 wk old baby! Summer was an angel and slept from 8pm till 7am last night!!!!! The nights before she was doin till 7am from either 8 or 9!! Can't believe it, hope the trend continues now we are home.

Had such a good time even with a bit of bad weather, totally knackered though and I apprecoate my shower even more now!

Hope you are all ok lydia read your post quickly, hope you feel a bit happier soon and get some decent support with your BF.

Bye for now xxx

babyblue3 · 01/09/2009 05:08

Hello Ladies... been following our thread for a bit... may I join??? I had my baby boy on July 28 and seem to be having very similar issues as a lot of you ladies (ie head thrashing at the boob). It would be nice to chat with someone who knows what I am going through....

BonzoDoodah · 01/09/2009 16:56

Hi babyblue welcome to the thread... it is such a relief to be able to talk to people with the same issues isn't it.

I had the health visitor here today who agreed with me that my DS is an unsettled baby. She thinks the head thrashing is wind and bad temper. Plus she sent us to the Dr as she thinks he may have gastric reflux (Dr disagreed at the mo but said see in a week) but that he does have eczma and an umbillical hernia! Flipping heck!

babyblue3 · 01/09/2009 19:23

Hernia... thats not nice My LO is colicky, which also is not nice. When he is awake, he cries (more like screams bloody murder!). He wakes every 2-3 hours to eat, has a crying fit for an hour, then back to sleep. This is horrible at 2am! My DH is fantastic with helping out, or I would have been slashing my wrists a month ago!!! LOL

Patchybob · 01/09/2009 21:28

Hi babyblue3 poor you with a colicy baby, that sounds hard on all of you. I have had a few really bad nights with my lo but to have that every night would be hell.

BonzoDoodah what do they do about a hernia?

Gillyan wow what fantastic sleep Summer is having. Very envious of that! Glad the camping trip was a success. YOu are amazing to even think about doing it!!!

QueenFee · 01/09/2009 23:02

thrush it really annoys me that drs don't treat us too and assume it's enought ot treat just baby Make sure you get treated Lydia
slings - google burp position slings - it came up with a way to do this when I did but it appears that 2 slings are necessary? However you might find that just upright in front of you makes them happy as its sort of womb like
babygroups I love them gives me some much needed adult company (and sympathy!) yes back to school tomorrow so toddler groups and baby groups re open.
lydia where abouts do you live? 17 miles is ridiculous. I used to have to go to chester which is about 10 miles. Thats why I trained to be a peer supporter to help others in this area.
gillyan very jealous of your camping trip. Doesn't look like we will use our tent this year
babyblue welcome ... moan away
patchy love the hotel idea now why didn't I think of that
Alfie had his jabs today and seems fine thankfully. He screamed the whole evening I wqas out last week putting DH off having him for good. He is normally so placid (Alfie not DH grin])so dont know what the problem was?
Alfie is now over 15lbs went through all his clothes at the weekend as he no longer fits any 0-3 things and 3-6 is starting to push it

QueenFee · 01/09/2009 23:04

babyblue the colic your little one has sounds just like my DS. Crainial Osteopathy worked for him. My heart felt sypathy though as it is soo hard x

Beccabump · 01/09/2009 23:06

Hello ladies

Things pretty manic here now what with moving in 2 days with toddler and baby in tow!

Almost packed now but it still feels like there 100's of things to do

We'll be without internet for 10 days or so how will I cope??! So I'll be back in contact soon.

xxx

lydiathetattooedlady · 02/09/2009 08:46

hi all, after having an agonising weekend with nipples that felt they were being bitten/ripped off ifinally got some cream hurrah! thanks for the link activity i actually went with it to the dr and demanded the medication it advised!
im so tired its been nearly 2 weeks since bill went for more then 2 hours at night, its now every hour between feeds. he barely feeds for 5 miinutes before he's alseep again. ive tried changing his bum, tickling his feet, undoing his suit but he wont woke up and winding him seems to send him off to sleep too. still having no help from dp, starting to really htate him, he seems to think his job is to bring the money mine to stay at home, just a little help on his days off would be nice but he still sleeps in until nearly one!
have been seriously contemplating a staying at my dads for a few days, i feel like a single parent. sorry for the moan.
anyway welcome babyblue!

alibobble · 02/09/2009 11:27

lydia that's awful. Hope you can get some support from somewhere. He nees a good talking to! Hopefully when mouth is better feeding will resume, it did with dd.

hols off on holiday next week (in time for dd1 to miss the first week of nursery ) Going to north wales but don't ask me where, I booked it while I was pregnant! Got a top box as there's not much room in a fiesta when you've got a pram in the boot and a baby, toddler and 2 adults inside!

upright slings Can I again recommend the moby one that someone else recommended here. DD LOVES it and much better than the tomy one that I was trying before though if anyone wants it they are welcome to have it!

head bobbing DD does this alot at night. Very frustrating as gets very windy and needs ALOT of burping. Took good hour and a bit to settle after her feed last night. For me is when I have most milk except for first thing cos you've been asleep a while. In the morning I express off at least an oz before the feed so it's not so fast and it seems to help but not practical in the middle of the night though I've been tempted!

babyblue3 · 02/09/2009 16:00

Thanks for the welcome

Guess I should tell you all a bit about myself. I am 36, married, and have 4 kids (11, 10, 22 months, 1 month). Im from Canada.

AS I mentioned, the lil one has colic, so I have been getting very little sleep. He also eats every 2 hours! I have been very lucky that DH is helpful and has been home with me for the first month. He goes back to work next week, and I am terrified!! LOL. Its been a few years since I have had a newborn and a toddler to care for. Hopefully Marco (the baby) will settle down soon. Last night he went down for 5 hours straight (of course DD2 decides she doesn't want to sleep, so I was up anyway!!) Sigh....

alibobble · 02/09/2009 21:09

tesco bargains Just to let people know that tesco are currently selling Tommy tippee breast pads with 1/3 off. Also money off baby carriers though limited selection obviously.

3yrold ill not noticed Have been wondering why dd1 has been so unbearable for last few days. Got cross with her loads yesterday. Picked her up from child minder's to find she has a stinky cold. Oops! I knew something was up but no temp, and no snotty nose. What can you do! (Has both now)

BonzoDoodah · 02/09/2009 21:48

oh lydiaTTL how horrid for you. You really need to have a talk to your DH about his support. Having a baby is a joint effort. Is there anyone you can ask to have a word with him from e.g. his side of the family that can say it as though they have noticed themselves? You can't go on doing everything - especially with such disturbed sleep. I am utterly shocked at him lying in til 1 while you are getting so little sleep. You could try drastic measures like leaving hte crying baby in the room with him in the night (or taking them in in the morning) and going downstairs for 5 minutes peace?

beccabump good luck with the move. I hope it's not as daunting as it seemed all those weeks ago when you found out you had to move. Hope all's well.

I saw my health visitor again today and she things baby doesn't have a hernia but an infected cord stump (have antibiotic cream). So that is a relief. Plus baby was so settled today it was like having a different child. I also picked up a sing at a sling meet and am going to give it a try when he's being a grot. Fingers crossed.

Welcome babyblue. Lydia sorry to hear about your troubles. I get pissed off with my DH if he is up after me (like 8am) on the weekend and I have had to deal with my 4yr old, 2 yr old and baby all on my own. Can't imagine him getting up at 1pm!!!! I would be .

BF so so for us...I'm desperate for it to reach that stage of 5 feeds a day and snappy feeds. Here is wishing...

Gillyan hat down to you for camping and it going well. How fab! And getting so much sleep too. Summer sounds like a very good little girl.

It's my birthday next week and turning 35. GULP. Is that too old for Topshop? I am not even sure what I fancy doing as we have no sitter and DS2 feeds are all over the place.

Routine am I cruel by wanting to encourage a routine soon? DS1 starts reception in a couple of weeks and DD will be going to a preschool in Oct so I will need to get my bum out the door by certain times for drop offs and pick ups. DS2 gaining a 1lb a week so surely he can feed every 2 1/2- 3 1/2 by by the time he is 10 weeks? Tips welcome.

Misspaella · 04/09/2009 07:31

Oh dear
Did the mention of routine kill this thread?
