flippin Can't give much advise about monitors. I've always had a basic Tomy one, I've had a look and the one I have doesn't seem to exist anymore. It's a bit like this but you can't talk to the baby.

Bedtime now I think. C is trying to sleep but struggling. She's not crying, but keeps waking and fidgetting. Hopefully she'll drift off into a deep sleep too, so I can join her

FiKelly · 28/06/2009 01:26

flippin we've the tomy walk about platinum digital. nearly 3 years of constant use and it's going strong. only needed to buy a new re chargeable battery before g's arrival as old one couldn't hold charge for v long. reception is great even through the thick walls and doors in our old flat which was main reason we needed one. i like the digital display that gives the room temp too. never needed to use the talk to baby option or vibrate modes though.

FiKelly · 28/06/2009 02:23

just wondering.. have anyone's babies eyes started to change colour yet? g's eyes are still V blue like dh's but as mine are brown i'm expecting g's to change like ds's did. just can't remember when that happened..

Tummum · 28/06/2009 02:24

Got a blocked milk duct and it's hurting and keeping me awake. I shouldn't be up at this time when G is sleeping !

runningmonkey · 28/06/2009 02:54

Ouch tum. Hope you are asleep now

just feeding after 1.5 hrs of meaningless crying which Dh dealt with. We have resorted to a dummy

quick q what is everyone dressing heir lo's in for bed in this hot weather? Amstill sticking to the 'one more layer than you' rule but not sure if it's too much? A doesn't feel hot, just warm.

FiKelly · 28/06/2009 07:20

ouch tummum.. hope you got some sleep in the end.

runningm we're sleeping with our bedroom window open atm as our bedroom is still just over 25 degrees at night.. the probs of a south facing flat with no breeze coming in from that side. g is sleeping in a short sleeve body suit and 0.5 grobag.. seems to be just right for her.

going to be v tired today.. g fed from 1am till 3am, at 4.30am till 5.15 and has been feeding again since 6.40am.. oh well.

Momino · 28/06/2009 07:34

morning! just got back from walking dog with Harper. neither of us could sleep so i thought a bit of fresh, muggy air would help.

monitors, we have a Tomy platinum walkabout which is on constantly.it's very useful for the temp monitor (22 in here at mo).

Fi, was wondering same about the eyes. dd1 has green, dd2 has blue. both seemed obvious what they would be from early days. Harper has steely dark blue/grey eyes which i hope will turn brown (like mine). can't really tell right now.

runningmonkey · 28/06/2009 09:11

Thanks fi. When did you start g in a grobag? Hospital said not until 6 weeks but I reckon A would like it and I think she is plenty big enough

FiKelly · 28/06/2009 09:53

runningm we were ok to use the grobag straight away as grace was 9lbs 7oz at birth. it's the babies weight that determines when you can use one.. your baby needs to be over 7lbs grobag info

FiKelly · 28/06/2009 09:57

been using ours shortly after we got home when g decided to fuss about being swaddled.. just like her brother!

pulapula · 28/06/2009 11:00

Morning all,

Big changes are afoot in our house today. We've decided that we've had enough of DS1 and DD keeping each other awake in the evenings until after 8pm or 8.30pm so we are moving them upstairs into separate bedrooms. It could backfire as the rooms up in the attic aren't as dark so if it means early mornings we will move them back down!

Also we are trying DS2 in a cot. Last night DH could only get him to settle on the bed not in his basket so we thought we'd give the cot a go. Either it might trick him into thinking he's in the bed or at least he won't get that rustly moses basket sound when he goes down which alerts him to the fact he's in his basket.

runningmonkey · 28/06/2009 11:23

Ta fi

hope move goes well pula

dandy the 'L' cup bras are made by royce.. you'll find you may need to go up a rib size with them as they size a bit smaller around i feel. i have mine from last time but i'm sure it was the nct site that had them. I have found my nct comfort 'k' bras to be same cup proportions as the L royce's though. a better option for you may be the 'bravado' one on the envie site.. it was what i was going to buy if i got bigger than with ds. out on phone atm but will look up links this eve on laptop. x

FiKelly · 28/06/2009 13:31

should also say envie do an alter to fit service too.. so you could get what you need that way too. eg 34k same cup as 36j so a 36k would be a 34L iyswim?

flippineck · 28/06/2009 13:35

pula - good luck with the move.

Think I may have a blocked duct forming too, got a tender boob and annoyingly A is fast asleep at the moment, 'twould be wrong to wake her for my comfort. Too hot for flannels!

Thanks for the monitor stuff, I've just got back from Mothercare with the cheapest Tomy one! The temperature thing would be useful, but couldn't really justify spending that much more just because I like the thermometer (and we have a Grobag egg from when DD1 was a baby).

It's very muggy here again. We had two great thunderstorms yesterday, maybe there'll be more today.

runningmonkey - A has been in a 1 tog grobag and nappy and nothing else and actually slept better last night than ever before! She's been in grobags (of JL copies) since she was born as she was well over the weight thing.

The eye colour thing is interesting isn't it? DD1's eyes were very very blue right from the start and it was obvious they wouldn't change (I have v dark brown eyes, DH's are grey-blue), but A's eyes were a lot darker when she was born and I thought they would go brown quite quickly...but they seem to be getting more blue, not less! ATM they're similar to DH's, but I keep hoping they'll go more brown, especially as her hair is the same colour as mine.

tbh dandy the royce ones aren't v comfy either..

Belgianchocolates · 28/06/2009 18:38

Afternoon everyone,
Hope everyone had a lovely day. It got so much hotter here than was forecast so I went out for the day being overdressed, even though it was only a T-shirt + jeans + crocs. It was the dcs' school summer fete and because it's always very busy and crowded I decided to wear C in the wrap (a gorgeous Didymos). I got lots of people coming up to me saying she looked so comfy in there + how beautiful the wrap is too. It was great to have her in there, but as it got so much hotter than expected I got a tad overheated. C didn't complain though.

grobags C's been in a grobags from about week 2 I think. I would have had her in one before that, but I was waiting for it to arrive from Belgium as someone bought one as a present. Due to the hot weather I've been out to get a 1.0 tog one too and she's in that in just a nappy and vest. If it gets any hotter I'll do just a nappy.

eye colour Funnily enough I was studying C's eyes last night to see if I could see any changes. They're still quite dark blue-grey. I can't remember at all when the other dcs eyes changed. DS has got very clear blue eyes (like his granddad) and dd1 brown eyes (like me). Maybe C's will stay the same colour as dh's eyes are grey.

Febes · 28/06/2009 20:19

Hi everyone. It was such a nice day here today. DD and DS were both really good all day and I managed to organise my house a bit more and bake banana bread so I feel quite proud. We also got a new car. Mum and dad bought it for us as we are very poor. Its just a banger but at least it goes into all gears and doesn't sound like a traction engine like our other car. Now need to sell the old one for parts.

I put DS in his merino grobag tonight for the first time and he looks so cute. I didn't put DD in one until she was 3 months but he is so big that it seemed right. I still swaddled his arms as I think he likes it. He is still waking lots and mainly feeds every 3 hours but sometimes every 2 hours during the night so I'm tired. DH is keen for a seeing to but I told him he needs to woo me as he thinks he can come home from work and hump me while I'm busy cooking or folding washing and thats all the foreplay I need . He said well do you want flowers or something? And they say romance is dead.

Momino · 28/06/2009 20:40

good evening. just watching football as it's USA vs Brazil 2 to 0. usually i'm not interested in football but do love the national game and am quite surprised/impressed my hometeam is going so far in a tournament. don'tknow why i'm waffling on about this. bored?

had a bbq today and a couple glasses of bubbly since we're celebrating Harper's arrival with friends we haven't seen in ages.

sleeping bag, I've had Harper in one since birth as I've got 0-3 month old size.

didn't get much sleep last night so going to bed early. hope i don't wake up anxious again [worried emoticon].

hope everyone is well and enjoyed the warm weather.

Hi everyone,

I think it took DDs eyes 6 months to change to their final colour of dark brown. With DS1, his are still blue, so we spent quite a few months wondering if they were going to change or not (mine are brown, DHs blue). DS2 looks a lot like DS1 so wonder if his eyes will stay blue as well.

MIL and FIL took DD and DS2 over to the park this afternoon as DS1 was asleep and we were getting the new bedrooms ready. Think they got a taste of what DS2 is like when out in the pushchair. He was screaming by the time they got to the end of the road, and then he would fall asleep on MILs shoulder, but cry as soon as he was returned to the pushchair. In the end she held him til he was in a deep sleep and he managed about 15-20 mins before he woke screaming, and poor FIL had to rush back home! At least I won't take his antics personally any more. Cheeky monkey!

runningmonkey · 28/06/2009 21:08

Thanks for the sleeping bag advice. Am going to splash out on a couple of those nice merino ones someone (momi?) mentioned ages ago. Have got one ligtweight cotton one I might try too.

Pula - your ds2 sounds just like A except with us it's the car seat. I had to get in theback with her on the way home from town today and hold he hands to try to calm her - she will only settle in it if put in in a deep deep sleep to start with

right a has finally finished feeding so am off to bed foracouple of hrs before more boobis demanded

night all x

LoobyLou36 · 28/06/2009 21:46

evening all..

routine went wrong last night tried unsuccessfully to do bath, massage bed early onbut she wasn't having it. managed to bf and put her in moses basket at 10 tho and she slept till 3.40.

M very unsettled tonight I think its the weather, she's asleep downstairs in the carrycot with us, she'll prob wake up for a feed when I try to take her upstairs

SpangleMaker · 28/06/2009 22:29

We've been over to my Mum's today for a pub lunch, my brother and SIL were there too. I thought we were going to be lucky as H fell asleep in the pushchair shortly after we arrived at the pub, but they took 45min to serve us, just as he was waking up - typical! H was very unsettled the rest of the day, mostly because of the heat I think.

Gave him a bath when we got back at 8, as per our new 'routine', but while DH was drying and dressing him H started screaming and screaming and screaming - the loudest I've ever heard Took him down to our bedroom and eventually, after about an hour of feeding, cuddling and shh-ing he conked out. I don't know what it is with him at the moment (growth spurt maybe), but most evenings for the last week or so he's been getting really stressed out with over-tiredness although we've been trying everything to get him calm and encourage him to bf and sleep. Oh well. 'This too shall pass' as they say.
