EBsmom, also ebay? haven't looked on it for BF tops but may be worth checking.

Quick q - how do you know when lo has emptied one breast before offering the other? Hv told me to make sure I was doing it but forgot to ask her how to tell!

Belgianchocolates · 18/06/2009 17:24

MamaCocoon were really quick at delivering too. I ordered yesterday and it got here today!

emmab I've got 2 bf tops. I found I don't wear them. They're H&M a light purple/lilac one and a pink sleeveless one. They're medium in size. If you're interested I can sell them on to you. Otherwise like the others said: H&M do them for 12.99 or 24.99 for a 2 pack of T-shirts I think. It's also always worth checking eBay.

Momino · 18/06/2009 17:29

RM, sure belgian will post better reply but I just squeeze the nip and see if anything comes out. I'm never sure i empty it fully and switch when Harper gets fussy on one side. sure that's not the right way but...

OP posts:
pulapula · 18/06/2009 17:47

runningmonkey I switch sides if DS2 comes off or gets fussy. But that usually means he's switched sides 4 or 5 times per feed which i'm sure isn't ideal practice . sometimes i try and put him back on the same side if i think he's not taken much from it but he sometimes refuses as if he's had enough and wants the other.

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 18/06/2009 17:54

Hi! Feels ages since I've been on but I think it's only about 36hrs!

2ofeach - welcome back and congrats! Sounds like you're doing really well

Another weigh in here today and another 2.5oz gain (since Monday) so Owen is now 8lb 2oz at 5+5 weeks. HV leaving us alone til next Wednesday. Hoping he'll finally be just about back at his birth weight of 8lb 9oz then which would be good. He had also done a huge poo about an hour before today's weigh in. I did try asking him not to poo until after he was weighed but he obviously couldn't keep it in
HV was pleased and said there had obviously been issues with his tongue tie and she gave me 10/10 for perseverance.

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 18/06/2009 17:57

Sorry that should have been 3ofeach

Tummum · 18/06/2009 18:01

Just heard a good friend of mine has been rushed into hospital unconscious with suspected pneumonia . One of my other friends picked her DD from school and couldn't get her to answer her door (where her other DDs were also with her.) Very scary indeed. Am comfort eating like a demon to deal with the situation

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 18/06/2009 18:09

Tummum - how scary
Hope she's ok and you hear good news soon.

llareggub · 18/06/2009 18:10

RM, I don't check and don't really see how you can. What I tend to do is feed off one side until DS gets a bit agitated and shakes his head a bit. Then I pop him on the other side. He either happily continues feeding on the other side or he stops feeding altogether. So long as there are plenty of wet and pooey nappies, you should feel assured.

I've had my car back after I mistakenly put unleaded petrol in it and it cost £200 to drain the engine, which was the exact sum that DH had given me to buy new clothes after my weight loss. So I am making do with what I've got for now, as I feel far too guilty to go out and spend what he gave me!

I like the dress belgian. Do you think it would be smart enough for a wedding? We're off to one at the end of July and I've no idea what to wear to allow easy breastfeeding.

Momino · 18/06/2009 18:33

3ofeach, welcome back and congratulations!
tummum, hope your friend is ok.
llareggub, very frustratng about the car. hope you can find £ to buy clothes in any case.
Ses, about O's weight.

thanks for the welcome everyone - yeah i think I am doing quite well, have managed to get the little ones to school and nursery on time so far and house is clean ish and washing done but i am soooo tired but last few nights K has slept in her basket till about 2 am, woken to feed and then gone back in for the rest of the night ( proud mummy emoticon ) Just a shame DD2 likes to get up about 5.

Emmab - I have a Boob BF black t shirt size medium will send to you if its any good for you, let me know

emmabemmasmom · 18/06/2009 19:17

running I do have an H&M near me but I will need to check if they have a maternity section. I know when I was pregnant I went into Glasgow but now they have one in Livingston so will check. Never thought of them!

S also feeds on and off anywhere from 4am to 6am or 6am to 8am. I also don't mind as DH is up for work by 5am so we get the bed to ourselves

Belgian Ooo yeah I would be interested. Do you think a medium would be big enough for my large breasts and large small muffin top? I won't be offended if you say you think it would be to small, promise!

weird redness question. Does anyone with large boobies have red sore marks under their breasts? I have gotten it before and was told it was a fungal thing from the skin sitting on skin. I usually ignore it and it goes away in a few days. Well I have it again now from the lack of support with the nonwired bras (grrr). I was using the Daktarin cream for my nipples (thrush) on the area for some relief as it is an antifungal cream. Asked the HV if that was ok and she said no? Am I wrong to think that it would help it or should I go to my GP yet again for him to look?

Had a nice good talk with the HV today and feel like I am ready to get better. I am starting the medication tomorrow morning and am going to look into counselling as well, which I am looking forward to even if it is just to have something for just me to do.

DD is down for the night and baby S is asleep in her cot so I am going to sit on my butt, eat a brownie (dont tell the weight loss thread!) and watch crap tv.

runningmonkey · 18/06/2009 20:21

Thanks folks think I've been doing pretty much what everyone else is - waiting for fussing then switching.

We've had to bow out of going to my uncles wedding on sat as I think it's just going to be too stressful with feeding every 2 hrs especially since A's weightgain is not good... And have beenadvised to feed feed feed! Mind you hv is working off the old graphs so said not to worry too much A lost 14oz in week 1 then has gained 2oz this week does seem like a lot to lose but was just within the 10% tolerance so I guess ok

A just nodded off so off for a nap. Back later xx

Aaagh mn gone madsorry for the multiposts!

pulapula · 18/06/2009 21:05

Grr, for the first time in 5 weeks i decided to have an evening sleep as i was shattered, so put S down at 7.15 after a massive feed and lay down in my bed for a sleep. Took me a while to drop off then S woke me at 8 crying!. Managed to get him back to sleep by 8.30 and hope it stays that way, I just don't know what is bothering him today . His angry crying is now starting to really get me down.

Tummum · 18/06/2009 21:25

pulapula sounds v. frustrating

pulapula · 18/06/2009 21:27

Plus I took 2 fenugreek yesterday as S was fussing and my breasts were empty, and now my sweat smells of maple syrup and my boobs are getting uncomfortably full (I will be expressing soon thankfully for the 11pm feed- seems to work well and am planning to ask DH to give it tonight . Somehow it's always me that ends up giving the bottles ).

FiKelly · 18/06/2009 21:37

thanks for the tip on how to tell when your boob is empty.. i'd wondered about the head shaking g has done occasionally after sucking away for ages.. makes sense now i think about it!

think g has had a growth spurt day today..she's been feeding off both boobs every 2hrs since 6am and pretty much constantly since 5pm. she's just settled asleep in her crib so i'm hoping she'll sleep for a decent time and let my boobs recover.

belgian love the dress & when i'm able to nab the laptop i'm going shopping

Febes · 18/06/2009 21:39

Sounds like Rueben is fairly normal with his feeding then. He has gone 4.5 hours for the first sleep of the night once and 4 hours a couple of times but mainly 3 hours or less. The good thing is he goes back to sleep in his basket after and this morning only woke up for the day at 8.30. Another question do you think it will be better if i feed on both sides in the night feeds? R wakes and then feeds lying down on one side (takes 15 mins) and then pops back to basket and sleeps. Do you think I should try feeding both sides then he might go longer? I don't know if he can fit anymore in at one feed.

During the day I usually feed one side then nappy change or do something with DD then feed the other side. In the evening I usually feed one side before the bath and then after the other side then usually back to the first side before bed. I have started putting him down in his basket after 7pm up stairs. I've had varying success usually I need to give him a few more cuddles and another feed before he finally gives up.

Gert2a · 18/06/2009 21:46

Evening all

BF tops I just bought a great pile of cheap vests in lots of styles and colours (very cheap e.g. Tesco 2 for a fiver) and I layer them with the clothes I already have. Then pull the top top up and the vest and bra down (if that makes sense!), all is covered apart from a bit of boob, which is hidden by baby's head. Very flexible and cheap!

Going to join Edie in bed now and catch up on Holby From Tuesday.

Night night

emmabemmasmom · 18/06/2009 22:10

gert Totally good idea! I have quite a few vests so I can do that I think.

However, I have been sweating an aweful lot which is very weird. Anyone else? I don't have the night sweats that some have mentioned but finding that during the day running around after DD or cleaning makes me sweat buckets and I have never been like that. Because I have been so warm I have not thought to layer but will give it a go.

Got S off to sleep about 8 and she has been in her cot happy so that is nice. I usually find that she is content with just one boob for a feed. However sometimes if she is happy and alert for an hour then she may want more so I give her the other boob. She loves to comfort suck so I have let her stay on an empty boob when she has the satisfied milky baby face and just wants to suck. Seems to work for her since she won't take a dummy.

DH is in the shower...maybe I will join him for a suprise and then off to bed for me! Hope you all have a nice and rest filled night!

Belgianchocolates · 18/06/2009 22:18

emmab I'm a 36ff and they fit. I'm an 14 at the moment too. If you're about that sort of size the tops should fit you. They're designed to be a bit roomy I think for us newly delivered mums

3ofeach I must say I admire you for dealing with 2 teens, 2 toddlers and a newborn all on your own. I don't know how you do it. You deserve a medal and probably also one of those large G&T's that are being passed around

I tend to feed C from both sides too. Generally she feeds from one side and when I feel the sucking pattern changing to a more fluttery type of sucking I take her off and move her over.

Thanks for the comments on the dress, btw. I haven't tried it on yet, but it looks comfy.

C's been feeding a lot today. After her hourly feeds from about 4.30 this morning, she went 2 hourly during the day and this evening since about 6 she's doing hourly again. Maybe it's the 6 week growth spurt arriving, she'll be 6 weeks on mon. I've got some fenugreek in the cupboard just in case I need some, if she's the same tomorrow I'll have a go with it.
Normally she's asleep by now,but she's still wide awake. She is yawning a bit now though, so I think I'll take her upstairs now. Give her a feed and put her in her crib. After that, fingers crossed,...

DH seems to think that every time C cries she's hungry. As soon as she starts fussing and crying he hands her over to me and says she wants feeding. Like now

Goodnight everyone. Hope the nights arent going to be too broken for everyone
