EBsmom, DS3 was a 'surprise' so we didn't play on trying for a boy but i was kinda hoping for a boy. This will sound terrible but i was ever so slightly disappointed when they said 'it's a girl' and a little surprised as i thought i was having a boy with the size of the bump i had. I'm just being honest.

Now that we have Harper, I'm so in love with her and happy she's in our family. i'd love to try again for a boy but realise we can't do that and would have to try for another baby and risk a 4th girl. sorry, that makes me sound like I think girls are lesser but that's not it at all. I just would have liked a balance of pink vs blue . in any case,I'm happy with our 3 lovely princesses so happy to stop at 3.

emmab nearly all meds say unsuitable for bf women, just because they're generally not tested on preg/bf women. There is a book (it's name espaces me now after being out of work since March ) however that can be consulted which has more detailed info about meds and bf. If you're concerned you could get in touch with a pharmacist or maybe the bf co-ordinator at hospital to check the big book. Maybe jennster will know what book I'm on about.

I haven't got round to checking any of the f/b pics yet, but will do later to see how our babies are growing and changing.

fi hope you had a great time in lego land. My ds would be jealous if I'd told him.

3 dcs. I'm loving having another baby after all these years, but I do feel that no1&2 are a bit neglected by me at the moment as I'm spending nearly every minute of the day holding or dealing with C. They're big enough to sort themselves out (which is what they do most of the time ), but I do feel a bit guilty. I don't know how people with 3 toddlers are coping. It must be such hard work. Like grumpy I think the way forward is to wait until at least one of the older ones is in full time school, both is even better

detsy You want to come along shopping too? It's a big shopping trip for anyone who can make it so Solihul really. We didn't forget about you

We didn't have the best night's sleep. I think it's DH arriving and me not having the whole double bed for myself and C anymore. C started the night OK, then woke at 2.30, 4.30, 5.30 and 6.30 for a feed I hope this isn't a new thing she's starting.

Oh well, I'm the only one at home still in her PJ's, so better go and get dressed now and leave C with DH while I'm having a shower.

Belgianchocolates · 18/06/2009 09:51

re trying for a boy/girl. I've got a friend (same one who I didn't recognise because of the weight she'd lost), who has got 4 boys. Boy no3 and 4 were attempts at getting a girl. DH's uncle ended up with 4 girls for the same reason!

Momino I was also convinced I was having a oy because it felt like a boy, v. active, noticably bigger baby than the other 2. When the mw said: 'it's a girl!' I was , then when I saw her hair it was an even bigger . I'm happy though, I'm finally going to have a girl with lovely thick hair I can play with .

pulapula · 18/06/2009 10:22

momino- I was also disappointed at my 20 week scan when they said it was a boy as i wanted another DD. But now i can't imagine life without him, and i think it will be nice when he grows up as he will be close in age to DS1.

ebsmom- i really like the swaddle pod- really easy to get on, and he seems to like it too. Sometimes i feed him in it if i know he's getting sleepy so i can just put him down after. It's a lot of money for a small stitched piece of stretchy cotton but it seems to settle him and stop him scratching his face. it says it should fit up to 18lb with arms in, or 28lbs with arms out. they do seem to do different ones though which are different sizes so best to check the details.

runningmonkey · 18/06/2009 10:31

Morning folks
In a much better frame of mind today thanks in part to your support and a bit more sleep. It's our first day at home on our own today as dh has gone back to work. hv is coming later am looking forward to getting A weighed as she looks like she has grown from all the feeding we've been doing!

Ebsmom - well done for going to dr. V brave and will def help

As for all you mad ladies talking about next ones..... can't imagine it tbh... Yet

Have a good day all x x x

emmabemmasmom · 18/06/2009 10:37

Yes, that is the big question. Do we want to try for another baby. I love girls and secretly was hoping they would say this one was a girl even though DH was hoping for a boy. I know he is happy either way but I saw the moment of when they said it was a girl. I would love more kids if I could, no matter what we had. But we will see. We want a bigger gap next time for sure! Also, at the moment I could not even think about another. I honestly think 2 newborns would be easier than an 18 month gap at this point.

I will maybe call the BF support people as they may know. FIL is filling my prescription today so maybe I will have to call to speak to them.

Am annoyed as HV called 10 min before she was suppose to be here and said she could not make it until closer to 5pm tonight. Which is stupid as I will be making dinner then but oh well. My main thought was 'hell, why did I change out of my pjs?' Maybe I will put them back on

FiKelly · 18/06/2009 10:37

legoland was great! only prob was it took longer to get out of the flat and drive there due to grace deciding she wanted extra feeds than her usual 3hrly gap then we arrived needed lunch and found ascot was on and we'd need to leave early to beat the traffic!

luckily we'd used our airmiles to get annual passes so we can go back anytime

ds was so excited and although too small for most of it rides wise he just loved looking at it all of the different lego areas.. we didn't make it round the whole place so we'll definitely go back.

had my first go expressing and managed 2oz so quite chuffed. it's in the fridge for the eve top up if needed after her usual 2hr cluster feed.

just had to feed her again as dh woke her early by making our bed fluffing the duvet could have waited imo.

Jennster · 18/06/2009 11:05

emmab Sorry I didn't link this for you yesterday. I was looking at it, but then had the idea that you weren't bf so didn't want to upset you if that was an issue. here Basically, Sertraline (Lustral or Zoloft for you Yanks) is the drug of choice while BF. Citalopram is also safe. What have you been prescribed?

Jennster · 18/06/2009 11:07

emmab and if you decide to go for number 3 and you are still taking an AD, the Fluoxetine is the drug of choice during pregnancy upto 38 weeks when you need to think about switching to sertraline again.

emmabemmasmom · 18/06/2009 11:38

Jennster Oh thank you so much for that. I have been looking around since last night and have not come across that site yet. I have been prescribed Sertraline and just got off the phone with the La Leche people who are also looking into it for me! Sorry to ask, but have you been on any of these? I am trying to find a support group in my area as it would be nice to talk to people going thru the same thing but cannot seem to find one. I am really hoping that this is short term and in a few years when we talk of number 3 I will be long off of them, although you never know I suppose. Anyway, thanks!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 18/06/2009 11:54

emmabemma I was on Citalopram. It made me feel better (but I stopped taking it quite quickly, worked my own recovery out with therapy and talking and exercise and whatnot, I'm just not a drug person, I even don't like taking paracetomol (sp?), I'm weird). I was a little concerned that it would turn me into mad happy-clappy person, but it just made me feel more normal. And as I mentioned before, it upped my sex-drive (DH was very sad when I stopped taking it).

S is sleeping, we are supposed to be shopping but I've only just changed out of my stinky pyjamas (must wash them - had milk leaks during the night, I smell like a wedge of brie ). We were determined that she would sleep in her cot next to our bed, it turns out that she's a sociable kinda gal and prefers to be securely wedged next to me for the night (make it easier for night feeds, I have perfected the lying down fed), so nighttimes are very cosy.

I think HV is coming this afternoon, I hope she turns up on time, otherwise it eats into my school-run time.

DH is home late tonight and then going golfing. No doubt I shall have a horrendous afternoon/evening with all 3 girls wanting lots of attention. Then again, they could surprise me and be little angels.

Fingers crossed!!

Right, I think I may go on FB and admire everyones' babies.

Belgianchocolates · 18/06/2009 12:51

I knew Jenn would come up with the info re: anti depressants. She's brilliant

We had a lovely walk to Morrisons. C was wide awake for the whole walk there, which I didn't expect her to do, but it was lovely to have a chat with her

fi well done on the expressing. Legoland is good fun. Ds keeps asking when we're going back. We went 3 years ago and nearly lost dd1. I turned my back 1 sec and she was gone. It was so quick and it was so scary. Luckily my bil found her.

LoobyLou36 · 18/06/2009 13:10

we've just been out for a walk in the sunshine to deliver some of our eggs to a friend. Came back and then M fed for an hour but was still hungry so had to top up with formula .

Had my MIl on the phone this morning, she says I should keep pestering the doc about M's hernia as it has got bigger. Don't know if I mentioned b4 but we had an appointment with the paeds at hospital for July 23 but as this appointment was with the surgeons they cancelled on us saying that they didn't deal with hernias in under 3 yr olds. My doctors practice has contacted the hospital and we now have an appointment with paeds consultant on 5 Aug. My friends son had a hernia when he was a baby and got referred to Birmingham Childrens Hospital and had it sorted out when he was a few months old. I think its a bit of a postcode lottery with these things

Has anyone on here got any experience of baby hernias? or know what generally happens with them?

Sorry this is a me me post - just a bit concerned

3ofeach · 18/06/2009 13:21

Hi everyone can i join you - posted a couple of times on the Antenatal thread ( was olderbutnotwiser ) but the threads moved so fast found it hard to keep up

DD3 Keturah Violet ( Kitty ) was born on 1st May on her due date (grin) so 7 weeks tomorrow. Am finding life getting a little easier but still full on with 2 teenages and 2 toddlers and a newborn as a single mum. Was BF but my milk supply was poor, probably due to not resting and eating as much as needed so unfortnately now FF (sad) Keep telling myself at least K is not hungry now and she had 5 weeks of BF so all the antibodies etc

Am using cloth nappies too - have wonderoos and fuzzi bunz and love them find them so easy

FiKelly · 18/06/2009 13:43

hi and congrats 3ofeach nice to have you back.

looby sorry no experience of baby hernias what a pita with your appointments too. really hope it doesn't get worse than it is already too.

belgian scary stuff losing dd1 at legoland such a big place and bet you and bil felt like you'd won the lottery when he found her.

Jennster · 18/06/2009 13:57

Hi 3ofeach. Welcome back. We're not quite as chatty now so you might keep up.

Emmab I've not taken them, but I am a pharmacist, and a helper with BfN (but nothing to do with the drugline). I'm very glad you feel better having read that info.

Febes · 18/06/2009 14:47

Hi all
Detsy I am also thinking about number 3. I think I'd like to wait a bit as I want to go home to NZ for a bit more family support and am only 32 so no major rush with age but want to try again in 2ish years.

DD has had an upset tummy for the past few days. She was constapated so I gave her 3 prunes and since then has been pooing for england. This morning at todders she managed to poo out her nappy and down her leg I had to get DH to come down with spare clothes. Then I got a flat tyre so luckily DH was with me .

Rueben fed at 10.30pm, 12.30am, 3.30am, 5.30am. He is massive and is growing at about a pound a week shouldn't he be sleeping a bit longer by now (4.5 weeks)??? During the day he is also wanting another feed after 2-2.5 hours. I know I can't over feed him but it is tiring. He's bloody gorgeous though so I don't mind too much .

I feel so much better than I did at the start of the week. DD is also sleeping and behaving better and DH has been really supportive after I had my melt down on Monday.

Belgianchocolates · 18/06/2009 14:52

Hi 3ofeach Nice to hear from you. Wonderoos are good. Maybe I should give a Fuzzi Bunz nappy a go too. Jenn is right. We're nowhere near as chatty as we used to be AND we've got a name check amnesty going too!

fi It was scary and I was so relieved when we found her. Bil found her by the water play area after about 20min of looking. I can't imagine what would have happened if she would have fallen into the water without us watching her. Dd1 has got a knack of dissapearing though, the next year we lost her on a campsite and this weekend she dissapeared on a playground at this festival we attended while I was BF C. You've got to watch her closely! This makes me look like a careless parent, loosing my dd all the time. I'm not honestly

Belgianchocolates · 18/06/2009 15:00

febes C is huge too and also feeds about every 2h in the day with usually a 4-5h stretch in the 1st half of the night. She's a quick feeder, so I dont mind. My theory is that being this big means she's got to eat plenty to stay on that 98th percentile and keep the weight and length going

I'm quite excited that today I've got my lovely nursing summer dress in the post. Can't wait for some nice weather to try it out. It'll be great for when we go away to France this summer. It's this one. I'm tempted to get more stuff from this site, they've got lovely nursing tops and stuff, but I can't really. I've got to stop spending or I'll go even more overdrawn than I already am

School run time. Gotta go!

pulapula · 18/06/2009 15:15

febes DS2 is 5.2 weeks old and often feeds every 2-2.5 hours in the day (I try to stretch out to 3 but i think he is hungry) and like belgianchocs little C, he can do 4+ hours at the start of the night (last night he fed at 10.45 and 4am (but would only take 1 side), then snacked on and off from 5.20-6.30 (i think he wakes up when it gets light).

I can't get him to settle in his basket today, but really, when i think about it, this happens a lot so actually its not unusual for him, and i should get used to it lol. We had lots of screaming earlier for no obvious reason but think it was wind.

looby- Ms hernia doesn't look nice - my only experience is a friend of mine who's baby had one (similar looking if not a bit bigger) and i think they had to wait til he was a year old, and if it had not gone down they would then operate. I can ask when I next see her (next week) if you like.

emmabemmasmom · 18/06/2009 15:22

Jenn Yes that site was very helpful! The La leche women called me back too and also said it is totally safe. They did 9 studies with women taking 150mg or over and were not finding traces in milk. I am only on 50mg so I should not worry. Thanks again, I do feel loads better.

febes Baby S is just 5 weeks tomorrow and I started noticing a difference the last 2 nights. She is also gaining about a pound a week. She has started feeding more during the day which is good, but hard sometimes as it can be every hour or two. As a result however she is going longer at night (last night 7.5 hours) Hopefully you will notice a difference soon. I also feed her lying down but put her back in her cot when she pops off and I don't change her unless I have to. I don't talk, make eye contact or turn lights on either. It is sooo hard not to coo with her but she seems to be getting the night and day difference. I am thrilled as I did all the wrong things with DD1 and she didn't sleep through the night without a feed until she was over 1!!! Even now she must be regressing since S was born as she wakes at 10:30pm right on cue but I just kick DH and she has been going right back to sleep after a drink of water from a cup.

I managed a nap today but I feel so bad! DD went down at 12pm. Sara woke up and I got her to sleep around 1 in bed with me. I put her in her cot and then I fell asleep immediatly. I did not hear DD1 until 2:45 and by this time she was quite upset. I must have been in a deep sleep and feel bad So she is just now having lunch. Bad mommy...

Anyone know a cheap place to get BF tops? We are really tight at the moment with the low paternity pay we got when DH was off and I don't have the money to buy anytops and don't feel comphy nearly pulling my top off to feed. Maybe if I had some nice tops I would want to go places more.

pulapula · 18/06/2009 16:03

Belgianchocs- oooh that dress looks nice. Might be tempted to get one too (I've spent a small fortune in online shopping (and proper shopping too for that matter) as i spend a lot of time on the sofa with DS2 and a laptop. My hot milk lingerie arrived today- the bra is really comfy and fits well although i am somewhat "full" today. I also gave my moby wrap a try today but can't quite get the tightness right so DS had bits of his body hanging out here and there which was ok til his head started escaping.

Tummum · 18/06/2009 16:58

Afternoon everyone. I've been spending money too - went to buy some paint for DD2 and ended up buying lampshades and pictures in TK Maxx, DC birthday presents in Home Bargains (what a fab shop!) and sleeping bags for DC in Argos. Oops

V. proud of DD2 who has had another dry day

Love that dress Belgian. I am going to a wedding next week so will have a look at the site to see anything suitable for my huuuge frame !

runningmonkey · 18/06/2009 17:15

Ebsmom - have you got an H&M near you they do some bf tops and vests too andarenot too expensive. Just check your local branchhas a maternity section as the two here in Cambridge don't so I have to go to peterboro or get my mum to bring stuff from Wales for me!

Momino · 18/06/2009 17:18

belgian, love the dress as well. I could use a BF friendly dress.

Harper (6wk+5)weighed in today at 9lb 6oz. She's gained 11oz in 2wks and is following the 25th centile. HV says what she's not gaining in weight she's gaining in height as she's on the 91st centile for length (DH is 6ft6in so she must have his tall genes).

HV also said she shouldn't be going more than 7 hours without a feed but I didn't admit that she usually goes 8/9 hours at night, bad mummy . as we've all said before, why wake her? she'll wake me when she's hungry. her early morning feeds sound like some of yours: can feed off/on from 4am-6am but I take her into bed with me so haven't been losing too much sleep. loving the snuggling and cuddles .

interestingly, she's got a minor tongue tie which I'd not really noticed. is tongue tie hereditary as DD1 had a severe tongue tie that affected her feeding. H is feeding fine so am not worried but will have GP check at our 6wk check.

Also HV said GP must check H's hips to be sure she doesn't have that clicky hip thingy (what is it called?). H was checked at birth and given all clear but today HV though she was lying in a position that could indicate hip dyspla.(???) though she wasn't too worried (neither am i).

well. that is a mememe/harperharperharper post, sorry.

Hope all of you are well today. i really need to do something productive. I think i'll make a pot of ragu sauce before H wakes up from PM nap (in her basket - 2nd consecutive day!).
