enjoy your hols wheely! loli - I could be your Mum too - happy 21st!

OUch to teh teething hell laumiere - I forgot how bad it gets and to all the sore backs.

livi / yarni does the hugabub/ergo in outward facing support their head. I have found with the Closer sling that Rosie sort of leans forward out of it - doesn't look comfy, wheres the standard Baby Bjorn one keeps her totally upright.

We have some movement here - on her back whirling round in circles. Very disconcerting for me as her big sis never ever moved. Lots of shouting too - and becoming more demanding in a "play with me" sort of way.

Have started reading her books. She grins - think she likes the pictures!

Rosie and her big sis are just getting cuter and cuter together. They look at each other and just giggle - am looking forward to teh day when they play together and I get left alone !

Did someone on here say they had an Ergo? We're off to Spain and Wales in Sept and it would be nice to have an alternative way to hoick Gabe about (he's 20lb now so front carrying is OUT!). Can you get the baby in alone or is it a 2 person job? Also, since G isn't exactly tiny now, would it make more sense for us to get the toddler one rather than the newborn to toddler one?

Yarnie · 02/08/2009 19:27

Hi Lau. It was me with the Ergo. It's designed to take you through to the toddler stage, so there is no baby one as such (just an infant insert). I know people who carry two year olds around in it without any difficulty. The back carry is easiest with two people, but perfectly possible with just one. It takes a little practice and the loading process feels safer if you have a handy sofa or bed, but once the LO is in position on your back, it's just a matter of slipping some rucksack straps over your shoulders and fastening the chest strap. Very uncomplicated. To get an idea of whether you can manage it on your own, see if you can get your LO into a rough piggy back position with your back at 90 degrees to your body. If you can, you'll be able to get him into the Ergo.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Yarnie · 02/08/2009 19:29

Oh, and Meep, you can't carry facing outwards with the Ergo. If they fall asleep when facing inwards, there is a handy head sling arrangement that you fasten to your shoulders with poppers. I've found Spike doesn't miss facing outwards as he can see lots out the side as he isn't pressed right up against me.

livismum · 02/08/2009 20:13

meep no, only prob with hugabub is if Ella falls asleep facing forward she droops forward so i have to wiggle her out and reposition facing me so i can tuck her head in

meep · 02/08/2009 21:09

Rosie falls asleep in the Baby Bjorn facing out and she is so supported that I can just leave her - only problem is that with the onset of prolonged drooling it gets a bit soggy round her mouth !

OP posts:
laumiere · 02/08/2009 21:23

meep the hugabub doesn't support the head when outward-facing but you can 'tuck' your LO's head into the shoulder bits. I need to experiment more with my hugabub, Gabe keeps sicking on it though and he's almost too tall for the baby bjorn already!

laumiere · 02/08/2009 21:25

Oh and if anyone fancies surprising their DP (or wants to hint), take a look at "thiswww.principal-hayley.com/stay/special-offers/seduce",just booked a night away in Caerddyd for me and the DH

pintofstella · 03/08/2009 09:39

Hi ladies, haven't been on here for ages so have just tried to have a quick catch up!

George is now 18 weeks old and is a delight. He rolled over when he was 15 weeks old but hasn't done it since. Keep them immobile for as long as possible as far as I'm concerned!

I'm still exclusively BFing and the little monkey won't take a bottle, although he did so in the early days. It means that I'm not able to leave him for more than an hour or so at a time which is a bit restricting.

I'm also putting off weaning until 6 months as my memories of doing it with DS1 weren't pleasant. I can't make my mind up about BLW and am still in two minds as to whether to try it.

George is a crap sleeper. He hardly sleeps in the day and sometimes we can't get him down until 10pm or 11pm. I'm very of babies who go to bed at 7pm. He sleeps in a cot in our bedroom and is Grobagged and is usually awake every couple of hours in the night .

laumiere have you stayed at the St. David's before? It's fab. Have a wonderful time!

Have any breastfeeders managed to have a night away from their LO's? We're going to a wedding in September and I have toyed with the idea of staying over but if I'm likely to be up in the night expressing (to prevent me becoming engorged) I think it might be easier to come home.

We went to Legoland yesterday as DS2 was 6 and had a fab day. George was good as gold and slept for most of the day as he was being wheeled around.

Sorry for such a random post but I thought I'd do it while I had the chance. Will try and keep more up to date with the thread from now on!

laumiere · 03/08/2009 14:46

pintofstella I've left G overnight, but he doesn't wake up til morning so not a problem.

I haven't been to St David's but DH knows of it and is very excited! (He doesn't know about the seduce bit yet!)

pintofstella · 03/08/2009 16:14

laumiere "doesn't wake up til morning". God I'm jealous! I'm so tired with all this nightime feeding. Saying that, George slept through from 11pm to 6am last night in our hotel. Ironically he always sleeps better if we're away from home!

We stayed at the St David's about 3 years ago and it was gorgeous. My friend regularly stays there on business and said it's still just as nice. When are you going?

laumiere · 03/08/2009 18:43

2 October, of course G is doing his best to prove me wrong tonight...

megzyboo · 03/08/2009 18:48

Oh how I would love a night away, DP has never taken me anywhere though so I can pretty much count that out straight away.

Stella - have you tried the mam teat? my LO wouldn't take the bottle either but they work a treat! also found it helps if you are not around at the time as the little munchkin seems to know there is something better on the menu.

Had a roll from front to back today! although I think it was just her annoyance at being on her front that did it. she really hates it for some reason!? any tips to keep them that way for at least 5mins?

There seems to be so many different slings out there! I have the babasling. I would like to try some of the others but the sling seems to do its job and I don't often use it anyways as I hate having to carry the nappy bag too and then whatever I buy when out.

jollyjoanne · 03/08/2009 19:54

I can also confirm that the George and the Palace hotels are nice, I've stayed in both with work. And Cranage Hall is close to my current (well the one I would be doing if I wasn't on maternity) work and I believe is nice but it seems a bit far from anything to me.

Mae didn't like the babasling - it is too dark for her she seemed to get scared in it. But she likes her Tomy carrier thing and she will face in or out but she didn't seem to be able to sleep in it, in either position so we have to take her out when she is tired and carry her normally.

Not had a night away yet but hopefully we'll be ready for that in time for my 30th birthday which is later this year. Although hopefully by then she'll be having only limited amount of breastmilk anyway.

Since Mae has been sleeping in her own room in her cot she has been moving round loads. She can now roll on demand from back to front but then she tends to get stuck. And she is starting to lift her bottom up when she is on her front so potentially crawling may not be that far away.

laumiere · 03/08/2009 20:59

Argh, and now we have mice too! Just saw one clamber over Gabe's playmat.

I can't bear the thought of using lethal traps but the humane ones don't seem to be getting us anywhere.

Slickbird · 03/08/2009 21:30

Hi Everyone!

I've been absent as per my previous post but thankfully everyone has gone (along with all the politics) and now I am just left with three kids and a DH who is absolutely smothering with the cold. I had been doing absolutely everything last two weeks and as he is off for the next two, he said I could go to my folks for a couple of days to recover, but, well, I got one, which is better than nothing but got called back today as he is really sick. He's so run down that as soon as he gets a break he gets ill. It's always the way. We were hoping to go on day trips over the next two weeks so I have packed him off to the garage (see it did have a purpose afterall - quarantine!) to see if he recovers quickly - and doesn't give it to the rest of us.

On the FB front, he rolled over today, back to front, and did it four times. He was very pleased with himself! Almost as pleased as his mother! So that's earlier than DD1 who I think was about 5 months (maybe 5 1/2) and DD2 who was about 1 years Just kidding, but she did take longer to do stuff. I reckon this lad's going to be on his feet by the time he's one tho as I think he wants to join all the action! I'm amazed he could roll his weight if I'm honest. Bless him. And he's been on solids now for the last week, just at lunch time and it seems to be going well. I've just been giving him the same thing two days in a row and then introducing something else. So far so good. Although he is also in teething hell and I swear to God the clothes we are all getting through as he throws up everywhere (part reflux too tho)....

Laum Have you tried the plug in ones (Pest control 2000 I think it is) that radiate electic impulses round the wiring (totally safe) and a sonic noise that irritates them and stops them from nesting? We were totally over-run with them in our last flat as we had done a lot of renovating and knocked down walls etc and this totally got rid of them. Worth a shot? If you've not got one, I think the website I got them from was called Primrose London.

Re: carriers, I tried putting FB in his the other day to go for a walk and I thought I'd push DD2 in a single buggy. Ho ho ho ho ho. I had to put him down after two minutes as I nearly broke my back and pulled all the muscles in my neck. Double buggy it was. Shame it's not really an off-road one...

lizziemun · 03/08/2009 22:03

laumiere

Thanks for that link. I'm looking for somewhere in Oct for DH to take me for my 40th Birthday.

megzyboo

I wouldn't worry to much about tummy time some babies just don't like it. DD1 never liked being on her tummy and it never stop her from moving around the room. She used to move like Robbie does. Pulls his legs up and then pushes down moving about like a catterpillar on it's back.

meep · 04/08/2009 08:43

well done for surviving the visitors slick

you say your dd2 took a long time to roll - well dd1 NEVER rolled - honestly. She went from lying on her back to sitting up to bum shuffling then walking. She also hated tummy time so I gave up with it. Funny thing is she now sleeps on her tummy!

Still have Rosie in the moses basket - only just got a second cot and still have to build it. She is shuffling around on her back so I reckon she'll scoot all over the place once she has more space.

laumiere I also hate the lethal traps but sometimes needs must. I had a mouse once that survived the trap for 3 months - I was actually quite sad when it finally got him.

Not much news here - have finally told work when I am going back - only 3 months left of baby gazing

Morning all!

Nothing much to report here other than bloodshot eyes. Still trying to get A to sleep in her cot.

She went in at 11.45 last night and went to sleep from being fully awake within 5 minutes. Big yay!

Woke at 2am, took until 2.35 to get her back in again. Woke again at 4 and I ended up with her in bed. Woke on and off from then and was wide awake at 6. I feel like the living dead!

I've put in a couple of new pics on the profile (if anyone is interested!) including one I took on my phone of the bump in the bath the day before labour started.

She's 4 months old today. Where did the time go?????

Yarnie · 04/08/2009 12:27

Lovely pics grinningbee! I wish I had more pictures of my bump.

We have baby diarrhoea at Chez Yarnie. It's cycle after cycle of sleep, feed, grumble, poo. Spike's not feeling too sorry for himself, but he's obviously in a bit of discomfort - poor sausage. And I'm sick of changing nappies. The frequency of dirty nappies means I can't really leave the house and this is day 4, so I have a bit of cabin fever. I nip around the block every now and then, but haven't met up with anyone for fear of passing the bug on. I hope it's on the way out!

Slickbird · 04/08/2009 18:54

Evening All. (Bends knees) (Because, you know, in my spare time, I'm a cockney policeman of old...)

Meep I didn't realise that some just don't roll. I know some don't crawl. Oh well, I think he'll be on his knees soon this one. I can't believe you've still got Rosie in her moses basket! I think that's great that you are getting your money's worth for the rest of us. Honest to God, it's ridiculous how fast they grow out of them.

Grinning Lovely photos! I keep meaning to update mine and to take some of the new LO's room before it gets trashed and loses its charm.

I had a crap night, two hours sleep and those two hours weren't joined up. I had banished DH to the garage to recouperate, but FB just cot-thumped ALL bloody night. Why does he do that?? Lift legs up and....thwump! Lift legs again and.....thwump! etc etc ad nauseum.

Then he horsed 9oz at 5.30am despite having nearly 10oz before bed. Increased the solids today but we shall see if it helps. But this morning's exchange with DH was pretty grim as I felt awful and so did he so it was a fight to see who got back to bed first. Some holiday this is turning out to be. So by late afternoon I thought, this is all really grim as DH has been down for ages with his job and all the money we have has been going to a fund to redo the bathroom and DD1's bedroom. So I decided to book us all into the Peebles Hydro on Monday for a couple of nights and it looks pretty nice and includes all meals and leisure activities etc. I hope it's nice and is what we need.

Yarnie Hope Spike feels better soon.

laumiere · 04/08/2009 19:17

Huh, I shall tell Gabriel to start working on his sitting up and rolling, he's getting left behind!

meep · 04/08/2009 19:52

yarnie that can't be nice for you or Spike. I remember being strangely fascinated as I watched green froth coming out of dd1's bum as I changed her nappy !

love love love the bump picture grinning - it kind of sums up those last few days of pregnancy!

slick Peebles Hydro is lovely though some of it is still a bit dated. I have been in a family room before (just little me on a conference in a big bed with bunk beds next door). The decor was tired and very dated but there was plenty of space. They have lovely posh rooms on the website - alas they don't tend to be the ones you end up with - so be forewarned so you're not diappointed. The spa is lovely and the grounds are great.

Rosie's sleep is still going well - not gloating and feel awful for those of you still up all night - but am very happy that I am not exhausted. Dd1 was pretty good at this stage but it all went tits up when she got teeth so I am sure Rosie will make up for it all soon.

Oh dear Meep That's a bit of a bummer! The photos do look nice and posh so that's a bit crap if it doesn't match up. Oh well, we shall see.

meep · 04/08/2009 20:04

fingers crossed you get a nice one - maybe the rubbish ones are just allocated to us conference folk!
