Cot update:

Went into cot at 10.30 - woke back up about 15 mins later, but I managed to get her back to sleep.

Woke again at 1.50, very cross baby, fed her back in our bed and we both nodded off! Put her back in cot at 6.00 and she slept there until about 8.15! Not bad really. Just got to work on those middle 4 hours... and then start getting her to bed a bit earlier.

Now all I need to do is not fall to sleep with my head on the rail. Did that until the 1.50 wake up and had a killer headache!

Where is everyone??

Wheelybug · 28/07/2009 09:43

Am here - will try and catch up later. BUsy with dd1 off for school hols and getting ready to go on hols on saturday.

All ok here - still not much sleep though.

L 20 weeks on thursday . Going think about weaning either on hols or when we get back in the hope it helps !!

Back later. Hope everyone ok......

meep · 28/07/2009 09:49

I'm here too - just v busy - reading but no time to post!

grinning dd1's cot was on my side of the bed - the number of nights I fell asleep with my hand through the bars patting her tummy - would awake with a chilly dead arm!

Sleep still good here - feeling very lucky with my chilled baby (think I desrve a wee bit of luck after dd1's nightime antics!)

No weaning for us until end of September - hooray! She's not even on full bottles of milk yet, so we're still quite a way off solids.

No news here - no rolling, crawling or significant moving. Lots and lots of giggles and chuckles though!

OP posts:
laumiere · 28/07/2009 09:54

Hi all, more news on the weaning front. Gabe is now managing to sit in a high chair and is on 3 meals of approx 6oz solids each day.

At the moment I can't crack making breakfast cereal so he has Heinz baby breakfast as it can be made with water rather than EBM. Lunch is currently chilled fruit puree (chilled to help his poor sore gums) of either apple and apricot or peach and pear. Dinner is sweet potato, carrot and spinach (lovely colour - not!) or potato, carrot and swede.

We're probably going to introduce meat and fish soon too so G can start eating what we eat. No teeth yet!

On the names front, Clarion seems to be the winner, but as there are quite a lot of Clarions, need to be Clarion XYZ so now trying to not sound like a total tosser :p

grinningbee · 28/07/2009 10:45

I can't wait to start trying food, but that's way way off yet.

Forgot to mention, took A to be weighed yesterday, and she's now 13lb 12.5 oz. Almost a stone!

I also asked about the shrieking banshee episodes - hv told me that she has just found her "voice" Joy!

Meep I shall make sure I do things differently tonight. I WILL NOT fall asleep on the cot rail...

Only had a couple of attempts at rolling, and still no giggling . Loads of smiley squealing though!

lizziemun · 28/07/2009 11:55

Im here in body (mind is long gone). Busy as it summer holiday so have all 3 to keep amused.

Def not weaning tell 6mths, so end of Sept. As have to potty train dd2 before then. And also can't be arsed with purees so hopefully DS will be ready for BLW.

No giggles, but lot of smiles and 'talking'. To many rolls, pushing himself around by bending his knees and moving himself around.

I was so hoping for one of those babies that stay put until over 1. He is only 18wks and can already get across the front room floor.

megzyboo · 28/07/2009 16:30

Sorry it's been ages again, I do keep up here and there but never seem to get round to posting. Not much going on here anyways, didn't get camping as we got a flat tyre so had to hang around to get it fixed and cost £70!! so decided we couldn't afford camping too.

Grinning - Juno is into the screaming too! She totally loves having a voice and likes to talk to me as I push her around in the buggy. It does turn to crying sometimes when I obviously haven't understood what she was telling me. She's 17 weeks but same weight and stage as Amy although I do get giggles if I try really hard, kisses behind the ear is her favorite.

not jealous of all those with mobile babies!

had sleeping problems here too for the last week or so, every two hours, although I did get through till 6am this morning which was nice been feeding at least ever two hours during the day too, not sure if its just another spurt or time for weaning. by the sounds of things it's easier to be on the boob as long as possible?!

finally forced myself to go to baby rhyme time and was it not shut for the summer?! typical!! never mind I will get there one day!

meep · 28/07/2009 18:32

just popping in very quickly to say I am sure that around 4 months is classic growth spurt time - I am sure I have read that on here on the bf boards - to just keep going with the milk and it will calm down. Hard if every 2 hours though megzy

Hi there, no major events here, lB is still sleeping well at night....puh-leeeze may it last! We moved him into his own room (he slept in cot from start) at 1,5 months as my mum said we (her kids) were in our own rooms after a week, so we didn't really question it and did it. Was harder for me than wee one, and the traipsing up and down at night was a schlepp. He loves watching the flickering light of his baby monitor, I think it's sligtly hypnotic!

Went swimming today and had a ball! Just wonderful to see him getting excited and splashing away. He sucked his bottom lip constantly for 2 days, and now he's into making croaking noises before napping... Makes me giggle! Lots of giggling from him too, sometimes for no reason? Eating repertoire now includes apples, apricots, carrots(yuk), butternut and sweet potato. He's getting a high chair soon...

lolianja · 29/07/2009 14:01

Hey guys. Was my 21st yesterday - was very strange to be getting quite a few presents for Jim rather than myself and was teenagerishly miffed about it (in secret, of course!). Will get over it though, plus it'll save me some expense! Did get a few things for me - boyfriend got me some very nice earrings, parents got me a hoodie I'd been eyeing up, odd jokey bits and bobs from mates, more earrings from sisters and ex gave me a whole bunch of stuff for Jimmy and an Alexander McCall-Smith book I'd mentioned last time he was down here to see J.

Was also 18 weeks gone yesterday - still anaemic and measuring small for dates but have fattened up a bit which is good and am being unmistakably kicked now. And Jim is 5 months on Saturday. He can sit up independently very well now. He can't crawl yet, certainly not manoeuvering his way across rooms like some fellow March babies! He starts attempting a kind of army crawl when put on his belly now but can't get anywhere yet. Not particularly looking forward to the babygate era!

I'm still on the "little bit of puree at the end of each feed" stage, will have to try and move things a long a bit though as I really need him weaned by Dec at the latest.

Anomaly scan is tomorrow - still at a complete loss whether or not to find out the sexes.

corgikelly · 29/07/2009 19:35

Happy birthday, loli -- sounds like things are going well for you. Let us know if you decide to find out what you?re having!

Am thrilled to be out of bed today for the first time in a week ? this morning I was able to stand up and totter around like a pensioner who?d been hit with a gorilla tranquiliser dart, so DP whisked me off to the osteo. Basically the bottom bit of my spine, just above the coccyx, was shoved over a goodly bit to the side ? he said it was no wonder I was in agony. He did some adjustments and followed up with massage and TENS, and I?ll go back Friday for a follow-up. Bummer is that I still can?t lift anything and will still be stiff and very sore for another few days, and will have to be SUPER careful when it comes to bending, turning and stretching. And it sounds like the combo of my bike accident a few months back and pregnancy itself means I?m just going to be more prone to this kind of problem. Oh well ? ?tis just lovely to be vertical, even if it hurts!

We got motivated by all you solid foodies, so Rhys had his first few spoonfuls of rice cereal tonight (he?ll be 17 weeks Friday). He gobbled it down ? BUT I have a question! I bought the only brand available in the local supermarket, and was really shocked at how sweet it tasted ? like vanilla pudding, basically. Is this normal, or should I be trying to find something else at a healthfood store? Am super leery of promoting a sweet tooth? anyway, will probably not pursue further until he?s better able to sit up and has better hand/mouth coordination. But if I were to give him foody things to gnaw on (as opposed to muslins and toys), what would be good options? Raw carrots? Cucumbers?

Slickbird · 29/07/2009 20:38

Am here sort of too, but just too darn busy - got MIL, BIL and neice up for a week, DH is working and I'm looking after the whole shooting match! There have been moments I can tell you where I have nearly lost it, esp with BIL, because he doesn't have any kids and is used to being a selfish bastard on his own, so that has induced a lot of tongue biting.

Anyway, haven't had time to read all the post am afraid, but briefly, Corgi that sounds like it was your L4 was out on your spine whihc is a very common one, mine is out frequently and it is a nightmare, but it sounds great that you have found someone that can put it back in. And your right, the trick is stopping it going back out. That's the hard bit. I had 5 parts put back in a few weeks ago, but because of all the lifting I do, the L4 was out pretty quick, so it's back to giving me a lot of grief. But I have discovered that there is someone just down the road who does spinal work and that will save me travelling to Perth, so will try him next time. Hope it eases for you soon.

HB had been sort of sleeping through for a week but got up in the middle of the night and I think he is going through another growth spurt. So I have started him again on the baby rice and he def took it better yesterday. Banana tomorrow.

corgi I don't know about the finger foods yet as I was always advised to leave that til later, so maybe ask your HV, but yes you are right, some of the baby rice, cereals and foods in general do have a lot of sugar esp. Heinz (get with the programme Heinz! But you can get "Organix" baby rice etc - but I don't know if they do it in Belgium. I too am super careful about not promoting a sweet tooth and I think you are right to think about it.

Anyway, hope the rest of you are all well, will get a chance to catch up when the outlaws go at the end of the week.

xxx

lizziemun · 29/07/2009 21:40

Happy birthday Loli.

To give you a birthday laugh I'm old enought to be your mum .

Corgi,

I am glad your backs getting better, and yes you will have to be careful with your back. Can you ask your osteo if there are any exercises (yoga) or something similar to strenghten your back muscles.

As for a Baby rice i have 2 pkts of it left from Lexie I have a Heinz and Cow and Gate.

Heinz 'first food - Pure baby rice'

Ingrediants

Rice flour
Calcium Carbonate
Vitamin C
Niacin
Zinc sulphate
Vit E
Iron
Riboflavin
Vit B6
Thiamin
Vit A
Folic acid
Vit D
Vit B12

Cow & Gate 'Pure baby rice'

Ingrediants

Rice
Thiamin (vit b1)

As you can see there is a great difference in what baby rice has in it.

BLW or finger foods are usually not until 6mths plus, Although Lexie I started at about 20wks.

laumiere · 30/07/2009 09:51

Happy birthday Loli!

I've just started a swine flu rant on AIBU

Now for DS1's Portage assessment (special needs education in the home)

mdavza · 30/07/2009 10:55

Happy birthday, loli! So young, amazing, hope you have a wonderful year.
My outlaws are arriving from tomorrow, so I'll be busy for the next few weeks.
Corgi Very glad to hear you're feeling better, hope he can continue to help you. I was also in a bike accident two years ago, fractured L2, it was a 'good' fracture and although I'll have to live with some pain and discomfort for the rest of my life, I actually had a v lucky escape. So lots of empathy there. I use Sainsbury's Organic Baby rice, I try to read labels to see what's in stuff. They can be so sneaky!

i've started a thread under general health, in a nutshell, since I've started with Cerazette a few weeks ago I've become nauseous, much more irritable than usual, and more anxious. Because things are going so well otherwise, I feel this really can't be a bout of PND or something, and I found that many other women apparently develop these kind opf symptoms on Cerazette. Last night I just couldn't sleep, finally conked out around 5am, it was horrible, especially with DH and LO sleeping away. Well, I'll see GP soon and is going to stop taking it.
Went to Ikea yesterday and bought a high chair, he sits there like a king!

laweaselmys · 30/07/2009 11:41

Hello!

Happy Bithday Loli, and sorry about your poorly backs corgi and slick bits of spine moving sounds awful!

Mols is 18 weeks, I put her in her own room a few weeks ago because she had outgrown the basket and she loves the extra space in her cot! She is teething quite badly atm, and I can see and feel the little tooth at the bottom left front, she has started waking in the night again, but has so far been able to have a little cry and go back to sleep on her own.

I thought about weaning when she started waking - but I have been able to get through by adding a formula feed a day (she gets too impatient for the boob, lol and I save up EBM for if I have to leave her with someone else) hopefully I will be able to hold off until 6mths because I want to try BLW. Have you done it with your others lizzie?

She can roll on her side but no more than that... can giggle though!

lizziemun · 30/07/2009 12:36

Yes with Lexie (dd2) I did BLW as i had such a bad time weaning Lizzie as she hated lumping food (didn't do lumps until she was well over 12mths) I couldn't face the whole puree thing again. Lizzie did/has a very strong gag reflex, and was/is a fussy bugger. It's only now at 5.6yrs is she eating/trying things.

Lexie hated milk from day 1 (she would scream and i would be pinning her down to get 4/5oz's of milk in at 19wks). She just took to food from day one, I would give steamed veg, rice cakes, pasta. She still eats everything I'm yet to find a food that she doesn't eat.

I you look out for 'Aitch' can't remember if she got a different name but she has given lots of advice about BLW in the weaning section if that helps.

I would say if you do go down the root of BLW you will get a lot of panic comments from older generations. My MIL would panic everytime we would just give Lexie her chopped up dinner, as she found it hard to understand why i wouldn't do puree's.

megzyboo · 30/07/2009 15:09

mdavza - I was a little weary of the cerazette myself as I felt odd on the pill anyway so hadn't tried it yet, don't think i will bother, I'm not that good with remembering to take them anyways.

Was just reading into what all the ingredients were in the Heinz baby rice were and found: "zinc sulfate is claimed to be effective at removing moss from roofs." Eeeek!

Juno is sleeping through till 6am again! what a relief! Its getting her down that's the problem now, she gets her bath and then bed feed at 8.30pm but is still awake till 11pm. means most of my night is spent trying to get her to sleep, grrr.

lizziemun · 30/07/2009 15:28

Megy it did have a little giggle when i was listing the Ingrediants thinking that if this their idea of 'pure baby rice' I hate to think what something non 'pure' would contain.

Yarnie · 30/07/2009 17:04

Hi all.

Anyone doing/considering BLW might be interested in this book:

Link

It has helped me articulate why I plan to BLW to worried grandparents, etc. It's a very clear, helpful book.

Also, on the carrier front - I have an Ergo Baby Carrier and it is great. It keeps the baby's legs at the right angle. Spike can't face out, but he's not all smooshed up against me, so he can see plenty out of the side. I hardly know I'm carrying him and he's quite a big boy. The Ergo's quite pricey, but there are a few carriers out there which work on similar principles.

laumiere · 30/07/2009 21:00

Ooh yarnie may try the Ergo, as G is rapidly approaching 20lb (my poor back!).

Just wrote my Personal Statement for work, fingers crossed now. Although I only have to meet the min reqs for my possible new job (yay for mat leave!) it's sufficiently different from my old job for me to be a bit nervous.

livismum · 31/07/2009 10:59

Hey ladies, been a v busy fews weeks so sorry for lack of posting! but still lurking and sooooooooo glad others seem to be going through similar things.

DD1 now finished playschool,v sad of prospect of not seeing so much of her when at "big school" full time!

DH was 30 at the wkend (i can remember his 19th!) we had a big party, 100 people all dressed as pirates! Infatable palm trees and massive flags, was great fun esp when FIL turned up as a treasure chest!

DD2 now 18 weeks cant believe how quick they are growing, glad to see some other movers, Ella has been rolling since 11wks and now pushes herself up on her knees and sort of slides forward, but her arms arent really strong enough and im worried she will end up with carpet burn on her face!

Not sure whether shes teething aswell seems v whingey,or as others have said is she finding her voice and just enjoying a good shout! Thought i would know with no 2 whats bothering them but its still guesswork.

We are still co sleeping but more laziness on my part as DH works nights, we have cot up so intention is there. Still loving hugabub sling although def noticing she is heavier! she loves facing outwards smiling at everyone. Have tried a few purees and rice more as she is so in to watching us eat and grabbing at it than for any other reason, still bfing and loving it.

My little sis has announced she is pg! due end of jan, DH is hoping it will stop me from wanting number 3 but we'll see!

jollyjoanne · 31/07/2009 11:38

Hello all.

Hope you had a good birthday Loli.

Corgi glad your back is feeling a little better, hope it continues to improve.

Mae has had her eyes checked this morning, but no definitive answers yet. She has to go back in 4 months for more tests. Although she can at least see out of both eyes.

On the sweetness front I don't know if it is just me, but my breastmilk is very sweet too, so I just presumed that the baby rice was similar because of that.

We have been trying some cereal now rather than just purees and baby rice and Mae has gone back to sleeping through the night for the last few nights. So I think that is quite good.

But I think she may just be starting with some teeth, I can't feel anything yet but she is very listless all the time and is needing far more mummy cuddles than normal

Wheelybug · 31/07/2009 19:59

Just popping in to say hi and bye as we're off on hols for two weeks. Kind of daunted by prospect but looking forward to it too. WIll be nice to spend some time together and actually have dh around to help. We're off to france so have a 4 hour drive on the other side which I don't think will be quite so good as L doesn't sleep much in the day even in the car. We've just invested in an in car dvd player to keep dd1 happy but can't rig up the other screen to the back of the seat yet for L ().

Happy birthday loli

Glad the back is a bit better corgi

sympathies to the ones with bad sleepers - I'm with ya !

We;ll be joining the weaners whilst we're away I think. Have packed baby rice and my handheld blender thing. L screamed all through my lunch today because she was on my lap and trying to get to it and she's waking every 4 hours in the night and I think we're over the 4 month growth spurt because that was even more often !! Not going to rush it though unless she wants to.

Back in two weeks - hope everyone has a good two weeks .

laumiere · 01/08/2009 13:08

Happy hols wheely!

We're in Teething Hell this week, Gabe has reverted to entirely BF, and is really taking out his pain on my nips. Even tried giving him formula today to give my poor boobs a break but no joy.

At the moment we're using nurofen, teething gel and granules and it's still only giving him a little relief. A chilled ring from Mothercare is a bit of help but I'm so sick being chewed, pawed and carting him around! He's 20lb now and it's putting such a strain on my back I'm back on the painkillers I had for my coccyx injury just to get through the day.
