Just a flying visit as I need some breakfast. Thank you ladies for your suggestions, I will try PALS again today and ask lots of questions. M isn't waving, she too looks confused by the whole idea. I forgot to tell you something funny that happened when we were getting the dc to bed.

I was drying M in the bathroom and DH came in for a quick wee. M was absolutely horrified! She was staring at him in total , then looking at the toilet then me then back at her daddy . It was soooooo funny. She was totally scandalised by her father weeing in front of her.

Pepper - If it's any consolation, DH managed to get drunk on the train to London one evening, claiming he didn't plan on it. The journey is under an hour.

KSal · 23/06/2009 08:59

CSWS/HMM re the tomato allergy, i was told by a paeds nurse (who gave me and my antenatal crew a first aid course) that the allergic reaction will usually be on the second exposure, which is interesting and may explain the confusion. Think its because the antibodies form on first exposure and then the allergic reaction happens on second exposure (or something).... i thought it was very useful to know that exposure once with no reaction was no guarantee that there was no allergy. guess that's why you are told to introduce one type of food for at least a few days at a time (not that i did... I just banked on the fact that me and DH are allergy free!!)

in other news, Emma stood unsupported at nursery yesterday. She was standing holding onto a table and just let go and didn't fall down! not sure how long for, but enough for them to take a photo. still not interested in crawling though!!

RachieW · 23/06/2009 09:44

Morning all- well done to all the clever babies, waving, standing, clapping! No clapping here or waving. J has just chased me round the house after the hoover . I can't believe that he first moved on Sunday and now he's a speed demon.

MM- at M's reaction to Daddy weeing.

ah... she will only pull herself up on your hands not furniture if you see what i mean. Its cute tho, if i hold out my hands she will reach for me and pull up to standing... then i walk her over to something she can hold onto for a rest!!

if she wants to stand up she waves her arms and bounces likes she's about to take off... i reeeaaallly wish she was interested in crawling though

Hi all... been so busy past few days- finished work but still had to tutor for a week the things I can't say no to... it's only 1 hour, but still making it not seem like summer. Will be over soon!

Q has been crawling for what seems like forever now and he just cut his first tooth!!!!!!!!!!! Hoorayyyyy!! It's poking out of the gum and sharp and it should be up fully soon I hope. No wonder he's been so fussy and not sleeping. Poor little man.

He has been able to pull himself to standing independently (on furtniture or anything that's around to help) for about a week now. We can't believe our eyes when we watch him do it. he also cruises the coffee table walking but holding on iyswim. But prefers mostly to crawl and is fast.

We've baby proofed a bit with taking dangerous stuff out of the way, but we mostly just watch him and when he goes near the dvd player...etc we say "no" and he stops and looks at us. Then looks back at the thing hes not meant to touch and we say "no" again (not in a mean voice, but a serious one) and he then smiles, pats his legs and turns to something different. AMAZING they can understand these things already!!! I'm just blown away by it all.

csws I loved that baby safety website. We got a gate for our stairs but it's too big. The lindam flexigate with the mesh in the middle. It doesn't reduce in size for our small doorways at all.

aubergenie - I thought Q pulled his willy in the bath last night. Dh said no way, he didn't but I saw him, twice. It's cute
pistachio - Q does that pose sometimes mid-crawl, too. It's so funny

It is really good for their spatial awareness and coordination long term if they crawl... I know this, but how long I wonder? a month? I want to make sure he crawls for enough time to get the benefits long term so I'm not paying millions to an OT later in life

Marthasmama · 23/06/2009 15:12

What have you been feeding him Star?! He's doing amazingly well! Super Q! No wonder he's not been sleeping, what with the tooth and all those exciting new skills he's been learning. He must have been so excited to try them out! We used this safety gate in our old house as it was the only one that fitted our narrow Victorian staircase! It can be pulled much tighter than the picture indicates. That photo doesn't look too safe, but it is safe.

Myjob - I have managed to get hold of PALS today. I also checked the visiting hours for the ward I'll be on..... and They are from 3-4pm and 6.30-8pm! That is no time at all! Plus DH will be picking ds up from school for the first slot and putting the dc to bed for the second. I told the woman at PALS that it wasn't enough time in the visiting hours to feed M. I can't see this going well you know.

Pistachio - M does The Plank quite often, she has strong stomach muscles!

We've had a man round painting the front of our house. But he's also cleared all the weeds from the front garden! It looks fabulous! I was going to sort it out with M in her pushchair so he's saved me a job. Yay for the man!!!!

star6 · 23/06/2009 15:56

expensive stair gate! I will have to look around a bit for one...

star6 · 23/06/2009 17:07

MM I talked to a friend who is a nurse with NHS and she said that they should be able to accommodate you. You should be able to be placed in an area where there are people who can help you get her to feed...etc. Probably doesn't help, but just thought I'd add that 2 cents.

hansnava · 23/06/2009 18:00

Hello all,
Its been sooooo long since i was last on here, can i please come back?

I cant believe how fast the past 8 months have gone

Sophia has gone from this little tiny baby to a crawling, standing, talking dribbling monster lol but ive loved every minute of it.
I need a few tips on feeding she has been having jars but i want to start giving her normal food, she will have sunday dinners and similar with us and i give her finger foods but other then that im at a loss. She must be getting bored of mashed veg and chicken.

Talking of tomato allergies my dd1 used to get a blotchy face when she ate cherry tomatoes but as shes got older it stopped. Now she gets the same if she eats sweets with sour sugar on them (sour haribos)
Which i suppose is good as now i have an excuse for her not to eat them

Ksal i never realised u lived so close to me i thought everyone on here was from miles away.

Marthasmama · 23/06/2009 18:27

Had a call back from PALS. They said that while I will be able to feed M during visiting hours, I will not be allowed to feed her any other time but will be helped to express. Apparently they have a duty of care towards me, not M so, basically it's tough. I will be calling back tomorrow to point out that if they have a duty of care towards me then they have a duty of care for my mental well being and it will be detrimental to my mental health & recover to prevent me form feeding her. I am so and frustrated. Fucking NHS. I want to tell the to shove it and not having the op (which I know is stupid because I need it but I am queen of cutting off my nose to spite my face!). This is a nightmare.

myjob - is there a reason that you peel the grapes? Don't start something that you aren't prepared to carry on doing for years ! I just halve them and then ds ends up sucking out the flesh and generally spitting the skin back out. Much less hassle!
Am impressed at N eating lettuce though. I've never thought of it as a very child friendly food, and dd still won't eat it. How do you cut it for her?

Welcome back hansnava. I did used to put people's locations on the thread stats you know! Do you not recall that I am also very close to you?
Ds also has whatever we're having (occasionally adapted very slightly), and feeds himself, as he has done since the start of weaning.

That is utterly shit MM . You need a morning visiting time as well at the very least. Have you tried phoning some of the bf organisations to see if they have any advice or contacts within the Trust that may help fight your case?

Star - we have 4 kiddyguard gates (well, 3 at the moment as one was faulty so has gone back). The babysecurity site sells them a bit cheaper than mothercare.

I love this nice weather too, and am really enjoying having the cafe style doors that we put in last year, as it means that we can totally open up the living room into the garden. (I also hate faffing with suncream though).

CSWS- Sorry, i do remember talking to u about lister hospital on the pre-natal thread. my memory is terrible. didnt mean to offend you. .

sophia likes to eat ne thing as long as its urs. she will eat dp's shredded wheat fine but if i sit her down to eat her breakfast she turns her nose up lol.
think i will try her on salad tomorrow thanks myjob for the idea

Marthasmama · 23/06/2009 20:33

CSWS - I am a member of the NCT so I was thinking about contacting the local branch about this. I didn't get a call back until late this afternoon from PALS so I haven't had the opportunity yet.

Evening everyone, I am very miserable so won't be around tonight. I am much too grumpy to think. Speak to you tomorrow. Night.

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/06/2009 20:50

Oh it would take much more than that to offend me hansnava! My dd (3.4yrs) still prefers food off our plates!

Sorry that you are so low MM.

Thanks ladies - I'm just feeling very sorry for myself so will be terribly boring and don't want to annoy you all. I'll be back to my normal self tomorrow I hope.

aubergenie · 23/06/2009 21:06

Hurrah to Q?s tooth Star. And I?m very impressed that he does what he?s told. I say ?No? to S when he goes (sort of wriggles, not quite crawling yet) over to his high chair and grabs the legs and he just laughs at me! But when we?re reading, I say ?Turn the page, Stan? and he does which is really sweet, so I know he understands some things.

Myjob ? Your ds sounds adorable! I thought it was lovely when he said that N was his best present too.

MM- that is utter crap. Did you say it was Medway? If so, it totally goes against their own baby friendly policy (although I suppose they might argue that it only applies to newborns). I?ve got a friend who?s an NHS manager and really good at kicking ass. I?ll contact her and see whether she can suggest the right person that you could talk to who might be able to help you out. She?s recently had a baby so I might not be able to get her tonight, but I?ll try.
