Hugs to all that need them.

Not posted for a while because I'm shattered. Hoping that G will come round to his baby sister being a fact of life soon. Terrible twos have well and truly hit at our house.

elkiedee · 15/06/2009 23:05

Things have calmed down a bit here, though still feeling fragile. We had an unintended lie in today - until 7.20 am, and that was when dp and I got up.

I'm applying for a breastfeeding peer support course. Don't know whether I'll get a place - I'd have to take some annual leave from work to complete the course and fulfil volunteer commitment but it should be manageable if they do accept me - the woman telling us what it's about said that twice a month for 6 months would be ok. I should know by the end of next month, one way or the other. I'd like to help other women, and it would be a bit different from my day job and while I'd be giving up some of my time it would be a way of keeping in touch with the mum and baby world once I'm back at work.

Hi everyone.

Have been on holiday in north Wales, had a fantastic time despite ds refusing to go to bed until 11pm most nights then ending up in bed with me......Wish I was still on holiday & have been really grumpy since I got back .

Elkie, go for it! I'm sure you'd be great as a peer supporter.

Sorry to hear various of you have been unwell or having DH issues .

OohGaryBarlow · 16/06/2009 14:31

Liath, I really hate the post holiday blues, glad you had a good time though

Leaky, hope G is behaving for you today

Elkie, glad things have settled down between you and dp now

Not much to say from me except that it is only one more sleep until Take That!!

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2009 15:01

So MJ - are you a Take That fan by any chance?

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2009 15:03

I agree elkie - think you'd do a good job as a peer supporter! I have been meaning to do it for a while but struggled with the ABM last time - who are you doing your with? I want to do it for very much the same reasons as you mention - and I'm keen to start as quickly as possible this time so I don't waste any time. You've done the full bfc haven't you liath? Who was that with? How on earth do you find the time?

CaptainDippy · 16/06/2009 15:42

Popping by to say hey and now I must hoover .....

liath · 16/06/2009 18:33

I'm just a peer supporter, SPB. I did it through the local NHS infant feeding advisers. Scarily, it was more or less the same course offered to midwives & HVs but is apparently optional !!!

elkiedee · 16/06/2009 18:52

The course I've applied for is with the Breastfeeding Network who set up the longest running local group, and is funded through some of the local Children's Centres. The tutor is BFN but an NHS Primary Care Trust employee (her job title is infant feeding coordinator) is doing the information sessions.

What was the problem with the ABM course?

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2009 19:23

I would rather do it through the PCT, and think I vaguely know the Breastfeeding Coordinator - might be able to get something set up before I go on mat leave!
ABM course - in order to get approved for the course I had to get soemone in authority to certify that I was currently breastfeeding. I asked at the breastfeeding group I used to go to to be told 'Zoe' would contact me - but of course never did. I eventually managed to find out Zoe's surname, but by then had gone back to work FT and lost a lot of motivation. Wasn't that inspired by the course either, but it seemed to be the only option at the time - what involved in the Sure Start one?

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2009 19:24

Ironically my mum's involved in commissioning a Peer Support group for a PCT - it's the one next door though

Hello all, wow it's so quiet on here these days.

Just popping by to prove I am still reading.

MJ - I'm going to see Take That as well, but not until the 1st July. Hope you have a fantastic time.

Interesting that Elkie and SPB are thinking about BFC. I too am thinking along the same lines. SPB I was thinking of doing it through the ABM, in fact I've written my personal statement thing. Interesting what you say about proving you were breast feeding. I haven't read anything about that. (I know you have to have BF for at least 6 months and get a reference) I have also enquired about the NCT breastfeeding diploma, but feel I may be more suited to the home learning style of the ABM course.

Hope everyone ok. Hugs all round

xxx

StealthPolarBear · 17/06/2009 08:26

Hi Ange
Yes, sorry, that's what I meant - the reference. By the time I wanted to do it last time, the MW was a distant memory, and I hadn't seen the HV for ages. I did and I didn't like the home study thing - in general I would prefer a bit of both, at the time the home study thing was the only way I could have done it really, but now I'd prefer to get a bit more involved iyswim.

SPB, I am a bit of a Take That fan, did that come across?! I am very very excited today because I have a couple of friends who went to the show last night and said it was fantastic!
An evening of Gary Barlow and beer - sounds perfect to me

Hi Ange, fab to see you!

Good luck to you all with the BF counsellor courses, sounds great and there is a huge shortage of people able to do that job which is so desperately needed.

Right, I am off now, have a good day ladies

StealthPolarBear · 17/06/2009 10:05

OGB (or anyone else working for the NHS) are you able to help this poor poster?
I feel really sorry for her, and would love to help her sort out the questions she has
