Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Denny185 · 28/05/2009 23:47

Hello all, its taken all day on/off to catch up on all the posts over the last 3 weeks.

Soph - Yes had a lovely time (great to meet you all, such a nice family with v well behaved little boys unlike my rowdy lot ) The hotel was very geared up for kids so they were very entertained.
After 3 years of trying to teach Kiera to swim it finally clicked, once she realised that she can float she was off and has now mastered back crawl and breast stroke with a snorkel
The washing machine has just finished its 9th load today, just 2 more 2 go. Im hoping the weather man hasnt lied as there is loads on the line ready to dry tomorrow.

Aeryn has added some developed some new skills whilst away, walking up and down slopes, climbing down stairs and unfortunately climbing up on chairs. Her top molars cut through and she is also saying her first clear word, not mum or dad but "look" whilst pointing to whatever it is we are to look at.

bunnyrabbit · 29/05/2009 09:30

Oh wow Denny! That's on hell of a lot of milestones. Hope the molars weren't too horrific coming through.

KITNW. Standing is good. Alasdair won't even take his weight on his feet if you hold him.

Ellie, where do you work? My friend works at Victim support and the things she has to deal with are so awful and she's only admin. I don't know how you do it, but I'm sure all the poeple you help are very glad you do.

Soph, keep seeing you on the SN board. DS1 has ASD (but no Development delay) so am now starting to worry if this is why DS2 is only bum shuffling and not rolling or anything.

Better get back to work!!

BR

EllieG · 29/05/2009 10:13

Hey BR! So nice to see you back

I don't reckon bum shuffling is anything to worry about, is probably that he gets by faster doing it than not so can't be bothered. Apparently my SIL didn't walk until she was two and now she runs everywhere in a very tiring manner.

knitter - 22nd is a defo for me! Have booked my flights so am bloody well expecting to see someone! And I will be missing my baby so want to have a cuddle with yours if am allowed

I am OK today, sorry for being so moany this week - is friday now so am all happy again and the sun is shining woo!

bunnyrabbit · 29/05/2009 10:32

Hi Ellie. Every one is entitled to a bit of a moan now and again and yours was very minor indeed and quite warranted by the sound of it.

What's occurrin on the 22nd August pray tell.....

BR

EllieG · 29/05/2009 10:46

Meet up in London! Lunch! and cocktails if you don't have a baby with you. I am visiting my sis and thought might be nice to catch up with anyone who lives there or can make it down/up (in my case).

Can you?

bunnyrabbit · 29/05/2009 11:44

Oh wow! Err I don't know. That's about the only weekend we're free in August and I have got a pending booking for that date...

Would be lovely to come and meet everyone though. Put me down as a tentative yes please!!

BR

Soph73 · 29/05/2009 12:41

Hi all. Result this morning ... Sam's physio is restarting on Monday. I wrote a letter to the Supervisor, put it on his desk at 8.30 and by 8.45 he was back on the list .... amazing what happens when you make it official isn't it

Denny - is your washing dry yet? I'd hardly call your lot rowdy, they were really well-behaved, happy, friendly kids, I'm sure you're very proud. Pleased that K's mastered the swimming and A has mastered slopes, big achievement over 1 holiday

BR - DS1 never bum-shuffled or crawled, just started walking with the aid of a push along cart thingy with blocks in it. I didn't walk till I was 2 1/2 - I didn't crawl or bum-shuffle either. Just decided one day that it was time to get off me fat bum and off I went The shock nearly killed my mum Unfortunately, I've sort of regressed and spend loads of time on my backside and am slowly beginning to resemble the Michelin blimp I was as a baby ... with the wrinkles on my face this time

Sal - obviously one too many cocktails

Ellie - pleased you're feeling a bit sunnier

KnitterInTheNW · 29/05/2009 13:21

I've got the hump... Just made a batch of blueberry muffins because blueberries are half price in sainsburys. (and G will turn into one too soon if he keeps eating them the way he has!) Didn't have enough baking powder so in my infinate wisdom thought 'ah, I'll stick a bit more bicarb in, it'll be fine'. Well it's not. They taste horrid. Bleargh.

BR, I used to look after teins. One of them crawled, the other bottom shuffled. It's just a different way of getting around really!

Soph, you sure we can't tempt you with a quick visit to London on the 22nd Aug?

I can't seem to be able to fill G up at the minute. He's a tiny little thing (between 2nd & 9th centiles for height and weight) but is packing it away like there's no tomorrow. Costing us a fortune! Although, I've had to go back to whizzing his meals a bit for the last couple of days, don't know if it's his teeth, after effects of jabs or what. He had his mmr and booster last friday, and another booster in 3 weeks. To be honest I don't mind, he's still eating the stuff I make, just mushed up!

OP posts:
Soph73 · 29/05/2009 13:29

Oh Knitter I'd love to meet up but unfortunately just don't have the funds at the moment ... or for the foreseeable future tbh - hey ho, maybe one day (fingers crossed).

Sorry to hear that the baking wasn't a success. LOL at images of George looking like a blueberry Would probably look like this but not so blurry round the edges

KnitterInTheNW · 29/05/2009 13:41

I actually did just LOL at that picture!

And fab news about Sam's physio. Can I be nosey and ask what happens at his sessions?

Ellie, more than allowed to have a cuddle with George - if he stays still for long enough to let you! He's SO busy, never ever stops, even for a minute. He's so fast too! I don't think he's going to walk, just go straight for running.

OP posts:
Soph73 · 29/05/2009 13:45

Knitter - not 100% sure to be honest as they don't let you stick around to watch. In the beginning they were doing exercises with him to strengthen his back, neck and arms. Now they're doing different things (like putting him in the crawling position) to try and help him get mobile. Once he's crawling or getting around in some shape or form they'll do more exercises to strengthen his legs I guess. However, he does have incredibly strong legs already, it'll be whether he can be bothered to use them Every now and again they show me a couple of exercises that they want him to concentrate on so I know how to do it at home.

EllieG · 29/05/2009 14:27

knitter - can't imagine having such a little lithe baby - at last weigh in Molly was on the 98th centile for weight and over the 99th for height! She is a giant. Though she's getting skinnier now she's more mobile, and has lost some of her rolls and has more of a toddler-bod (sob, losing baby....)

Good news about Sam's physio soph

Soph73 · 29/05/2009 14:48

LOL at Mollie the Giant, you'll have to stand on a chair to tell her off when she's older

Soph73 · 29/05/2009 15:19

OK I'm off. Have great weekends everyone.

Soph xxxx

bunnyrabbit · 29/05/2009 15:23

LOL Ellie. Alasdair is a monster baby too. Great big chunky tummy. Very bastable. He'd roast beautifully. DS1 keeps saying we should baste the baby and he's having the chunky toes!! That's one thing about him not walking, he still has those chunky thighs!!

KITNW DS1 was always small and has always eaten like a pig. He is still skinny now (5.8) and eats for England. I guess it's 'cos they never keep still they burn it off. He has to eat about every 2 hours even now. I'd get a Costco card now if I were you!!

Soph, does Sam not mind that you have to leave the room? How long is the session for? You know I might be interested in some of those excercises to try and get DS2 to weight bear on anything but his bottom.

FYI DS1 also bum shuffled but from 7m and was crawling at 10m and walking at 15m. Hence I'm a bit paranoid that he can't even crawl yet.

BR (obsessed with DS2's inability to stand even)

Soph73 · 29/05/2009 15:32

BR - nope, doesn't mind one bit but then he's a very sociable baby and so was DS1. They're not doing any exercises to get him to take his weight on his legs yet, but when they do I'll let you know. I don't think that you've got anything to worry about at the moment though. Remember also that second children can take longer to get up and about because there are normally plenty of people around to get things for them, especially if they've got brothers and sisters. My friends DS2 didn't speak for ages because his brother did it for him and understood what all his grunts meant He speaks perfectly well now.

Right, honestly bell's about to go, gotta tidy up.

Soph xxxx

Denny185 · 30/05/2009 19:28

BR, some bum shufflers never crawl and go straight to standing/walking and there is such a wide range for 'normal age to start walking', I dont think id be too worried at this age.

DS, went to his first friends bday party today, bouncy castle and he loved it, DD2 was desperately trying to climb on but thankfully it was just a little too high for her to cock her leg up.

Weve been in the garden enjoying the sun this pm and apparently I let the kids dig in a pot that contained seeds, DH started to have a little rant about it but soon realised he would be on a road to nowhere with it and quickly stopped. By way of apology he's doing some of the mountain of ironing.

madameovary · 30/05/2009 19:54

Hi Everyone!
Congrats on your result Soph- good things ahead I hope!

Ellis has been a wee bit poorly today, temperature of 38.8, teething induced imo, her 11th and 12th teeth are taking forever to come in.

Fortunately my lovely friend was round, and made me a fab salad, brought me water (Ellis was glued to boob) made food for me to freeze, did my dishes AND cleaned my cooker.

Today Ellis waved for the first time and said "Otta" for water (well thats what i want to believe anyway) I was so chuffed. She is also clapping her hands and moving to music. Sweetheart.

EllieG · 31/05/2009 09:00

Oh bless, how sweet. Of course she is saying water. Molly says 'duck' - I like to think she says it at ducks, but is also used for many other things, including me.

This morning we are mostly playing throwing socks. She brings me them, says 'duck!' and I throw them for her. She picks them up, and all starts again. Very exciting.

I remember when I used to read, and be able to hold a conversation.....

I had something to ask, and can't remember what it was....oh yes, does anyone know how to get pasta sauce stains out of baby clothes? I don't normally mind, but this was an expensive (bought by grandma) outfit that she only wore once!
Am going to start a thread - someone in good housekeeping will know.

madameovary · 31/05/2009 10:15

Aw Ellie, thats so cute!
Ellis can now climb onto her little wooden chair and stand. How did THAT happen?!

No idea re pasta stains, sorry!

KnitterInTheNW · 31/05/2009 12:54

Have you tried the vanish stuff that's 2 liquids in 1 bottle Ellie? Will go and look what it's called... It's vanish dual power. I think it's great stuff, but not sure if it's quite as effective if the clothes have already been washed. Got to be worth a try though?

George still only says mama, dada and nana. Although he has recently added to his repetoire of impressions, cows say 'ammmmmmm'. So so cute! He's super bendy and very fast. and I just put him to bed in one of his 0-6 month grobags because we don't have any bigger sized 0.5 tog ones yet. And he had a little room to spare. Bless his tiny little cotton socks!

OP posts:
EllieG · 31/05/2009 19:01

Oh little weeny speedy George sounds very sweet and I can't wait to meet him!

Molly doesn't say anything with any meaning, I fear, but I like to pretend. Though today I said 'Where's Daddy?' and she pointed at DH. I then said 'Where's Mummy' and she pointed....at DH. Oh well

Started a thread and the good ladies of MN knew, clever people that they are. I washed the stain in a combo of fairy liquid and washing powder, then left in the sun to dry. Completely gone! Apparently is the sunlight that does the trick. Tried it on some other stuff and all stains gone. Am really quite pleased, which I think might make me a bit of a saddo, tbh

SalLikesCoffee · 31/05/2009 22:09

hey everyone. now wouldn't be the best time to mention r says nothing recognizable, is it?! Maybe he's just a deep thinker?

Having read around MN this weekend, I'm beginning to think I'm really just not, well, uhm, earthy enough for MN. Half the threads I've read (ok no, obviously not, only the one - the baby bottlefeeding one) is just plain weird. Probably a good thing I'm at work all day and then spend time with all you lovely sane people on here when I do come up, or I'd have got in too much trouble!

Bought take-away pizza and spent the afternoon in the park with R and dh. It was really lovely!

EllieG · 01/06/2009 09:19

That sounds lovely. We went to the park too, DSD was out with a mate, and we took DD to the paddling pool at the park and then for a run around on the grass. She knows no fear though, so did have to stop her from going up to other families and trying to take their picnic food

Soph73 · 01/06/2009 12:09

Hello Ladies. Nice to hear that England finally got some good weather Sam went to his first birthday party yesterday. Very nice, but had to stay under the trees as it was too blinkin' hot to go on the sand. DS1 went swimming in the sea, which is a big thing for him as he doesn't really do waves and the beach we went to has some quite big ones. On Sat DH took the boys out and I had a couple of hours doing absolutely nothing and enjoying the peace and quiet, was bliss

Over the weekend it sounded as though Sam was saying "hiya" - very cute Of course there are loads of other noises that he says, which DH and I know are proper words really He's going to be a deep thinker like R, Sal
