Here's a nice new thread for us to share our experiences with our new LOs.

Belgian - I'm hoping to get to my chiropractor this week at some point but to be honest I'm actually surprised at how long it's taking me to bounce back from this birth. Not just with the SPD, I feel wiped out whereas at this stage with the other DCs I was fine (relatively).

Spangle - My Ex-H was similar when I had DS1, it's not that he's a bad type but he really did not cope well at all with the disruption to his sleep. Your stepmum really needs a lesson in tact and diplomacy with new Mums! I bet everything will be fine once H isn't waking up so much during the night and you're both feeling more rested.

Momino - I was going to post similar! My back end was bleeding last night and I have no idea why. I still haven't pooed (a week today!!) and I'm really getting scared about it now. I ate pretty much a whole pineapple yesterday in the hope that it would have the usual effect (go straight through me) but nothing yet.

Well - my me me me part coming up. I am raging today having just spent two hours in my local hospital with a toddler with breathing problems thanks to mumps. Both DS2 and DD have it despite having the vaccinations - the Doctor told me he's seeing a lot more cases of measles and mumps because of (in my opinion) idiotic parents still believing that the risk of Autism is worse than the risks associated with measles, mumps and german measles. Even though Andrew Wakefield has been discredited.

Sorry if you're a non-vaxer but honestly. I'm just fuming today, seeing N so unwell was terrifying and to think it would have likely been prevented if the herd immunity around our area was in place

pulapula · 23/05/2009 15:29

blotted- sounds awful- mumps is really nasty and just what you don't need. I remember having mumps (one of my earliest memories) and how poorly i felt. I am pro-vaccinations, and therefore feel like you do about people who don't have the MMR due to a small scale research project which as you say has been discredited. Grrrr.

Momino · 23/05/2009 15:41

blotted, i'm also really constipated which i'm sure doesn't help piles. i'm sorry you're suffering too but also bit relieved someone has similar - i'm prone to hypochondria , mountains out of molehills.

here's my 'me' post, a rant on a minor issue: I sent lovely, thoughtful DH out for p/liners. i told him straight off that i don't need the maternity pads anymore, could prob get round the corner at s'bury local but I wasn't dressed yet. he said he thought he needed to go to supermarket for them as local wouldn't have them . didn't twig that he heard me wrong. so he went to 2 diff supermarkets, came bac with 3x10 mat towels and was annoyed he spent an hour. when I said i didn't need the big ones, he said he prob could have gone to the local one [impatient emoticon] which i reminded him we had the discussion. do men not listen? so now both of us are annoyed. what a dumb argument anyway.

ok feel a bit better

Belgianchocolates · 23/05/2009 16:42

momino I dont think dh's are all that good at women's sanitary things. I once sent dh out to buy pads as I unexpectedly got my period early on holiday. I even told him not to get the cheap supermarket own kind, as knowing him, that's what he'd get me. Anyway. He came home with pantyliners off course. He said he just got the cheapest box of Always he could find

blotted I think you'll find it helpful to see the chiropractor. My visit to the osteo was definitely worthwhile, because he picked up underlying problems that were made worse by my pregnancy and so now those things can be treated.

mumps I had them when I was little too. Not very nice. I was sent to live at my grandmother's because my parents wanted to keep me away from my brother. I must admit my ds didn't have the MMR, but he did have the separate injections. He was born at the height of the controversy, so at the time it was a difficult decision. I wanted him to be immunised, yet I was scared of the MMR. DD1, however did have the MMR and dd2 will get it too. A lot has happened in the 7 years since ds was born.

We went for a walk to the park today. Baby C didn't go to sleep in her pram for the whole time we were out, but she did stay quiet until just now, so I hope that means she's enjoyed her first outing to the park . I only took her out for a short while, because there was no shade and a lot of wind, which isn't nice for a baby of course.

SpangleMaker · 23/05/2009 17:00

Feeling better after a nice long walk with H (DH at work today) and a Solero in the garden - tempted by a Magnum but was thinking of jelly belly. About 100 calories saved

Constipation thankfully I seem to have got away without piles but (TMI) I was producing rabbit droppings, when I could go at all, for 2-3 weeks. Lactulose sorted me out & am fine now - might be worth a try?

MMR I get really cross about misuse of research data. After the MMR furore the govt made a (nominal at least) move towards more evidence-based policy so that when Ministers are deciding policy they are supposed to have decent evidence on which to base decisions. Supposed to, anyway .

pulapula · 23/05/2009 17:26

Afternoon ladies, well i've had a very quiet day. DD stayed over with my PIL last night, came back at 1.30 and then off to a party at 2.30. DS1 had a long lunchtime nap then was taken out by my PIL so I have just been left holding the baby (literally). I know i should put him down, but I figure i need to rest so i just sit cuddling. He is getting better at sleeping in his basket or on the sofa so i'm not too worried. The house is a tip though, although picking things up off the floor is not something i can do easily...

Well my peaceful day is over- DS1 and DD are back and are playing up at tea-time .

Blottedcopybook · 23/05/2009 20:34

Right! Proper TMI question here.

How long after delivery was it before you managed a #2?

I delivered last Sunday and still haven't gone. I've ate a whole pineapple in the hope that it would loosen things up and still nothing. I'm practically going to give birth again

Febes · 23/05/2009 20:37

I'm bloody knackered. My throat is sore but luckily my son is still the easiest baby ever. He did have a scream fest last night though but generally he is really placid. I have MW coming again tomorrow so I'm a bit annoyed as its sunday and meant to be lovely weather so can't go anywhere until they get here.

Spangle it sounds fairly normal for new parents to get snappy. DH and I are tired so end up taking it out on eachother. It gets better but it is really hard. Its hard at the moment especially if you are BF as it can only be you doing it.

Febes · 23/05/2009 20:41

Blotted I went on wednesday (in Asda toilets ) after eating a handful of prunes but I haven't been since so I had more prunes today so hopefully tonights the night .
Have you tried laculose? It always works for me.

Febes · 23/05/2009 20:43

I also have piles but they are getting a bit better.

pulapula · 23/05/2009 20:49

Blotted- i had a no.2 on day 2 but i had a cs and also ate loads of dried fruit bars and drank loads of water and so that first one was very loose! Hopefully that pineapple will do the trick...

found the post natal thread.. book marking for when I get home. will be easier to read everything when I'm on the laptop xoxox fi

flippineck · 23/05/2009 22:04

Hello all, feels like I haven't been around for ages. Well done Fi and anyone else I've missed.

My mum went home today, and although I really enjoyed having her here it's nice to have our house back. Bit scared about next week - it'll be my first week on my own with the two of them.

A is still really colicky. Been trying to work out if there's any link with foods I've eaten but haven't spotted any patterns yet.

DH and I went out - just the two of us!! - for a drink last night. We were only out for an hour, but it felt really strange. I did have a gin and tonic though which was lovely, and A slept really well last night, any connection?!

blotted - two days for me, and I was dreading it (terrible experience with DD1) but actually not bad at all this time round. Think worrying about it probably makes it worse. Lactulose certainly helped first time round, but not required this time.

smug alert - I got in some of my pre-pregnancy jeans today! Admittedly they are a pair that are more generous than others, but even so....Absolutely no chance of getting in any ordinary tops though, boobs are enormous still.

Blottedcopybook · 23/05/2009 22:30

Can't believe you lot managing after two days! I am going to be living off of fruit until I manage to go. Might get the old lactulose out and see if that helps.

flippineck Well done you! I got a pair of pre-pregnancy trousers fastened today although I'll admit that a) I hadn't lost the belly from having DD two years ago and b) they were a bit big on me before I fell pregnant. But! Still made me feel quite cheerful.

Can I pimp my husband's new blog? He's a keen amateur photgrapher and has started a project to take a photo of Greer every day for her first year. The link is here but just to warn you, day 1 has a big boob!

llareggub · 23/05/2009 22:54

blotted it took me 6 days to go, after 3 days of lactulose, pineapple juice and an hour on the loo! I dreaded it but it was fine

I've just finished my first week on my own, and it hasn't been too bad, apart from DS1's tantrums when he gets tired.

I've had 3 weeks of lochia and I am now fed-up. I have been doing the wii fit though, maybe I should stop? It is fun though!

frazzledoldbag · 23/05/2009 23:15

hi guys
blotted - I haven't 'been' yet either - am thinking of getting some prunes out later. Feel like I need to go but then.....nothing. Just want to get it over with. Lactulose is meant to be good.

Just wanted to ask about thrush - I had it a couple of wks ago and treated it with Canesten. Now it turns out that H has a tiny bit on the roof of his mouth and so I've been given gel for his mouth, cream for my nipples (which I have to put on then wash off before a feed?) and also more Canesten. Am just a bit concerned about using the gel in H's mouth when it says on the packaging not for use under 4 months - it has been prescribed for him but just feel funny about putting chemicals in his mouth (and also putting stuff on my nips which will then go in his mouth). Being neurotic I know but anyone else had to do this?

also am demand feeding and can't remember whether you are meant to use different breast at each feed or if the one you used isn't empty you put them back on that one first? Duh, can't remember and midwife mentioned the whole fore-milk, hind milk thing today in relation the H having lost 10% birth weight despite constant feeding (and no jaundice - yay) - she thought maybe he wasn't reaching the hind-milk?
I really should know this (what with being on no3)! Just wondering what all you guys do?
Better go and feed him anyway - he's been asleep for about 2 hours so if I let him sleep much more I'll be up all night (again).
detsy how are you doing?

llareggub · 24/05/2009 00:05

frazzled I thought the whole hind and foremilk thing was misunderstood on the whole. I don't quite get it myself, but there have been a few threads on it on the breastfeeding boards. I just offer whichever breast is easier to access, and sometimes as I am feeding both boys at once, DS2 gets whichever one is free! I think this site explains it well

Tummum · 24/05/2009 08:25

Morning everyone. Had a lovely day at Legoland yesterday instead of our trip away which was a bit ambitious in hindsight. Hope we all have some lovely weather today to enjoy... I'm looking forward to dressing G in some summer outfits... how sad am I ?!

Lochia 3 weeks on and it's still there, so I'm glad it's not me. It's really frustrating how it seems to go away and then come back again. Please tell me it should only last another week !

No2s/Constipation I have this too . I am going about once every 5 days despite eating so much fruit it's untrue. Is it connected to BF? I find taking lactulose horrible so I have tried to avoid but I should probably try that again

SPD Pain it's taken me ages to start to feel better. I was hoping it would feel better immediately but my MW said it would take a minimum of 8 weeks . But last night was the first night I didn't sleep with a pillow between my legs (yay!) so this must be a good sign.

Warning - smug, possibly v. annoying post alert.... G slept from 10.30 til 5am last night and the night before. so I am really hoping this continues. Even if it doesn't, it's nice to know it is possible, IYKWIM. Must be something to do with his weight as he is now 11lb 1oz !!

Have a lovely day everyone.

SpangleMaker · 24/05/2009 09:12

Tummum am very . H is starting to go an eensy bit longer between bedtime and first middle-of-the-night feed but it's still only 3.5hrs max. He then wakes up every 1.5 - 2hrs. I did read somewhere that once babies reach 11lb they/their stomachs are big enough to see them through the night though many still wake up out of habit

First poo think it was 4-5 days. I was still in hospital and was absurdly proud to announce the fact when the mw did her daily check on me. But I was still very constipated after that & was worried about how much was building up in there and how horrific it was going to be when I finally went. The lactulose did work a treat. I was wondering if it was connected to BF-ing or the change in hormones.

Frazz I think there is something to the fore/hind milk thing as I've noticed when expressing or when H comes off mid feed the first milk looks very watery but it's much creamier at the end. My HV recommended keeping on the same boob during one feeding session until LO looks like they're not getting any more or is fussing - then offer the 2nd boob. I was a bit neurotic about it at first but I think LOs will tell you if they are not getting enough of either type by asking for more. Sides - doesn't seem to matter as the milk is replenished quickly but you might feel engorged on one side if it's gone too long without a feed.

SpangleMaker · 24/05/2009 09:16

Oh and as I can never keep track of which boob I last fed from (tried the bracelet thing but kept forgetting to switch wrists) I have developed an embarrasing habit of jiggling my boobs to see which one seems most full

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 24/05/2009 09:59

Spangle - my plan was to use my thumb ring on whichever side I'd just fed from but again kept forgetting to move it...

DS slept from 4.30-7.15 but then woke up wet with a leaky nappy. I made DH get up and help me change and bath him. DH then went back to bed and is still there!!

Going for lunch at my parents today. My younger brother will be there too. Beautiful day weather wise. Loads of washing out on the line!

Looking forward to the first semi final of BGT tonight too!!

Febes · 24/05/2009 11:25

After the prunes I woke this morning with the runs for a bit but at least I've been again and gotten rid of the back log .
Any luck yet blotted? feeding I never know what the correct way is. I try to feed on alternative sides sometimes one side but if he seems hungry still then the other side too. Sometimes I seem to go from side to side without much of a break. He was 200g heavy than birth at his 5 day weigh in. He's only 7lbs2 though so still a tiddler.

Lovely weather here but I'm stuck in waiting for the mw. My mum has taken DD for a walk to the park so at least its peaceful. DH is going to the IRB 7s at Twickenham and conssidering he only woke up at 10 am I'm a little and but I'm trying not to say anything. He have to owe me though .

pulapula · 24/05/2009 11:48

I pretty much use both sides every feed and generally start on the one i finished on the previous time, but also choose a side depending on my needs (e.g. if i need my right hand free for eating dinner i feed off the left, or if i'm lying down i find it easier on the right). I also do the boob jiggle spangle .

OP posts:
Tummum · 24/05/2009 16:05

LOL ! I do the boob jiggle too... and I hadn't even noticed
