Evening all!

Well, us girls survived the first day with no Dad/Grandma to help out. We went out this mornig to my friends, peeing it down with rain so we got to test the raincover on the double buggy, and I got to push it for a reasonable distance too, all fine. A was unsettled this afternoon, but I put her in the sling (kari me wrap) and she slept in it for nearly three hours! Was good as it meant I could do stuff with DD1, and then I fell asleep watching Countdown ...DD1 entertained herself reading books for half an hour.

real nappies - we're nearly at the end of a packet of sposies too and I'm debating getting the cloth out to try, at least for some of the time. DD1 is back in her cloth (used disposables for the week after A was born); we're hoping that we can get her out of nappies over the summer, she's getting quite good at telling me when she is weeing and pooing now. Quick question - if you've got more than one in cloth, do you use a seperate bucket for each one and wash them seperatley, or is it ok to just chuck everything in one bucket and wash everything together?

We're trying to get A used to her moses basket. Incredibly she's asleep in it now, and has been for about half an hour. Having a much more settled evening here than last night so far - it could all kick off soon though!

flippineck · 26/05/2009 21:45

Sorry about all the typos - really must preview more.

No wine here, just tea and biscuits. My other resolution is to eat fewer bisuits.

LoobyLou36 · 26/05/2009 22:08

i too boob jiggle and honk lol

LoobyLou36 · 26/05/2009 22:10

sorry - trying to catch up and have only reached page 10

pulapula · 26/05/2009 22:41

Momino- you do well to manage your 3 all day and evening- i still have DH off work this week, and my mum is coming all next week. I think if i have to do bedtime on my own, S will have to go in the sling and cry if he has to.

Well S has fed again and is back in his moses basket - something that's never been achieved at this time of night before . I think he has been more settled today as i have been more relaxed and happy. So i think its time for my bed. Night all.

Just checking in whilst doing the 3am feed...

DH was back at work yesterday but I had my mum roundf from about 11am and my cousin from about midday.
Today I've got a friend round from about 1-5pm.

DS is only just over 2 weeks old but is already changing and learning. Both visitors today said they thought he looked bigger which bodes well for weight gain I guess! His leg and arm movements are also progressing - just wish he'd learn to keep his arms out of the way when I'm trying to latch him on! I've tried swaddling to control them but he doesn't like that!

Right, DS has stopped feeding now - just comforting himself. Will try and get some more sleep!

Momino · 27/05/2009 06:46

Hi all.
ses,glad he's feeding well.

Harper seems to be feeding ok though sometimes sleeps through and skips the feed she should have around 10-11pm. the check will be when she's weighed next week. but she's healthy and (fairly) settled so am not worried.

pula, keep those visitors coming tohelp as long as possible. my mil is going to come across from cheshire on a tuesday when poss to help amuse older 2.

hope all are well today.

Reggiee · 27/05/2009 09:11

Tummum sorry to hear about your friend .

Hi LadyH - I'm struggling to keep up with this thread too!

Belgian / Momino love the sound of a glass of wine. I used to be a big drinker (not an alcoholic I hasten to add) but so far I have only managed half a glass of wine twice, and I've opened a lager twice but ended up giving it to dh . I'm sure I will rediscover wine again once my sleep quota increases!

Momino / Flipp much respect dealing with all dc on your own. I've done 3 hours with them both, but my lovely mil has come round to help at my request.

Ses 2 weeks already! The time is really flying. B is 5 weeks tomorrow . He seems really big already and is starting to fill the moses basket.

Ohh, forgot to say this last couple of days we've had real smiles and coos .

Have a good day - weather not as nice here today. No plans but will get out for a long walk later to the park. Still haven't seen any baby ducks and want to find them. Soo cute.

LoobyLou36 · 27/05/2009 09:32

morning ladies...

reggiee Matilda is 5 weeks tommorrow as well - I can't believe how the time has flown! I'm thinking of getting the cot set up ready for M soon she seems to have grown so much. She's only 8lbs 15 tho.

MIL coming round at 11 so had better get showered and dresses I guess, M due a feed soon. I've looking after my stepdaughter all this week to so have managed to get her dressed and got her breakfast, she must be quite bored tho as I can't drive still and my wound is still infected so walking far is out of the question. Her dad took her swimming last night and we walked round to some friends of mine yesterday to get out of the house for a couple of hours.

MIL going to take us to see DH nan today so M can meet her great granny who's 97.

Blottedcopybook · 27/05/2009 10:08

Flippin When DS2 and DD1 were both in cloth I just put everything in the one bucket and washed it together overnight - far easier than waiting for two buckets to get full. I think I'm going to put G into cloth from today but I need to get more wraps and nippa grippas to tide me over. I've got an utterly ridiculous number of nappies but nowhere near enough covers!

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 27/05/2009 10:37

Reggiee - yay for smiles

Looby - how special to be able to introduce M to her great granny!

Momino - will definitely let you know when we're up in York next. I'm normally up there 2 or 3 times a year but doubt it'll be until the end of the summer.

DS has been asleep in his new sling on me for an hour and a half this morning He may not like his Moses basket but at least he seems to be ok in his sling which gives me a bit more freedom!

Really wet and miserable here today but forecast is good for the weekend.

Momino · 27/05/2009 11:30

wet and miserable here too. will we get the summer they're promising us[hopeful emoticon]?

Momino · 27/05/2009 11:30

wet and miserable here too. will we get the summer they're promising us[hopeful emoticon]?

Belgianchocolates · 27/05/2009 12:06

Morning everyone,

It's not wet here yet, but very windy and grey and generally not very nice weather. Oh hang on, it is wet now!

I did get that glass of wine last night, after giving C one last feed after I logged off. She then went to sleep until 2.30, I tried to give her one more feed when I went to bed at 10.30, but she didn't really take very much. All in all we had a good night and got up at 8.30! She's asleep now, it's her settled time for another hour or so. After that she'll become a bit more demanding She's filling her nappy a bit more as I'm writing this, so the quiet time wont last all that much longer now I think.

reusable nappies I'm washing my old cotton ones now. They looked a bit grubby from being in the loft, so I decided to give them another wash before I put them on C. I'm not sure how absorbant they are, they looked a bit worn, but I do have some new ones somewhere too. I just need to get some more wraps for those as they're not all in 1 like the ones that are washing now. I'll soon find out how absorbant the old ones are I suppose

ses C is 2 weeks old as well and feels bigger and heavier when I hold her. It is amazing how much they learn in such a short time isn't it. C has definitely learnt that being put on her side cradled in my arms means food and that being put on the changing mat means a clean bottom! She's one of those babies who don't like a dirty bum, as opposed to my dd1 who used to enjoy the soft warm squishy feeling of a dirty nappy, lol

I think I'll pop out this afternoon to get myself a new mobile as my old one still hasn't turned up. Going out always seems to be the best way to keep C quiet and a bit more settled in the afternoon.

Blottedcopybook · 27/05/2009 12:38

Belgian It's funny you saying that about C not liking having a dirty bum - Greer's the same as was Erica, whereas the boys were quite happy to just sit in it!

Here's a question for you - have any of you resumed relations yet ahem and if so, how soon afterwards was it? I'm at 10 days here and getting interested but it's been quite a while since we managed it because of my pelvic pain.

frazzledoldbag · 27/05/2009 13:05

Quick post as I keep posting on the a/n thread and don't really have time for both...........my boy seems quite happy to sit in a pooey nappy - that's men for you!
Hope all ok - will come and chat later, kids allowing!
H is almost a week old - am feeling all nostalgic now
[silly old frazz]
Love love love him to bits. So far he's being so good, I almost don't want to tempt fate by mentioning it.
Back later x

daizydoo · 27/05/2009 13:06

Just wanted to pop in and say hi. I've been reading, but not got around to posting.

Looby - I used gripe water with ds1, it was the only thing that I found that shifted his wind! ds2 doesn't seem to suffer as much, although it seems worse in the middle of the night

Pula ds2 only seems to sleep on me at night! It's driving me mad. All he does in his cot is moan and groan and fart until is feed time! dh already wants to put him in his own room cos he makes so much noise!!

I'm on my own today with the ds's. All going well at the moment, due to a sleepy ds2 and dora the explorer entertaining ds1! It'll all probably change when we need to go out later! I'm seeing the physio later as my carpel tunnel has got worse.

Re weight gain. DS2 was 8lb 6oz at birth, went down to 7lb 6 3 days later. After feeding every 3hrs the next day he was 7lb 12 and then a week later he'd gained a 1lb and was 8lb 12. Goodness knows what he is this week as he's really filling out!!

daizydoo · 27/05/2009 13:09

Err - no - no relations here yet - the last thing on my mind at the moment!!

ds1 will sit in a pooey nappy for ever, ds2 doesn't like it!!

Febes · 27/05/2009 13:17

Hi all I've also been reading but by the time I've caught up I either need to feed or DD needs me for something. I really admire you all coping on your own. I've still got mum for another 10 days or so. She has been getting DD up and giving her breakfast, doing endless washing and nappy changes. I don't know how I'm going to fit it all in and stay sane.

Rueben is an angel and has slept really well the last 3 nights waking at 1ish and 5 ish for feeds and going straight back to sleep. He has been cluster feeding in the evening though which is a bit exhasting. I hope we will be signed off by the mw tomorrow but as she was concerned about his (slight) jaudice they may want to see him again.

I too am hoping to make the transition to washable nappies soon. DD has been in disposables for last 2 days so need to get her back in washables and only have a few more packets of disposables for R so will dig out the small washables too. I will definately be using one bucket for both DCs though!!!

emmabemmasmom · 27/05/2009 13:25

Also just wanted to say hi to everyone

Baby S does sleep most of the day, yet I still cannot find the time to post! DD1 has gotten very demanding and started the shreaking screaming tantrums. I swear I feel my ears start to bleed they are so shrill. I started off by talking her through them and am starting to think she is doing it for attention not just frustration as she does it alllllll day. So, my new tech is to ignore her and walk away and also trying to allow more one on one time, which seems to be working (ish). Don't know how I will cope when DH goes back to work. He even agreed that it is hard and you should see how knackered he is at the end of the day (haha not so easy is it buddy?) He even mentioned dropping hours to be home more...but then we would be poor lol

Blotted re: relations After DD1 we waited the full 6 weeks as I had stitches and was nervous. This time however...since all went so well...I was interested in the idea straight away so we did on day 4 . It did not hurt at all and nothing felt...different IYKWIM...Yes, I asked DH lol

I have to say that at the moment I feel like we have been a lucky couple who has been blessed with a settled baby. I know I may take those words back, but reading some of the posts made me think that baby S is really not that bad. She wakes without crying...has a lot of alert time where she likes to just be held or played with on her belly or watching her mobile. She eats a ton though but usually falls asleep on her own. She sleeps in her own cot as well (although I do commonly fall asleep lying down BF but wake soon after and move her). This is only day 12 though so I am not holding my breath! DD1 was just so aweful (in a good way lol) with colic, thrush, reflux and well you name it she had it...

Just had a bath which was lovely. I hand expressed a bit in the bath and just let it go in the tub thinking 'hey people pay for milk baths and breastmilk must be better'. Then I got to thinking what celebs would pay in top spas to have a breastmilk bath How the mind wanders...

Waiting for the HV to come today. I am so thrilled as I hate the one I had for DD1. When we moved I prayed she would not follow, but she did. Thankfully now we have S I have been issued a new HV for them both. Hope she does not make me want to smack her like the last one...

Hope everyone is enjoying the day, rain and all!

pulapula · 27/05/2009 13:52

afternoon all,

shame it was raining this morning as we had to go and register Sam in town. Did a bit of retail therapy- I bought a couple of nursing tops in H&M which were nice and don't look like nursing tops or cost the earth. But S was unsettled in his P&T again, so we ended up coming back early with him screaming all the way home in the car . But again, he has been happy to be put down in his moses basket at noon and is still asleep (I am so pleased ). However, he drew the line at being put back in his basket in the night, so we still co-slept. But that was good in a way as he had quick feeds at 2.30, 5 and 6 which mean i just latch him on and go back to sleep within 15 mins! He then didn't wake til 8.30am.

blotted- I am getting urges to resume marital relations, but nothing as yet, partly because my cs scar is a bit sore at the moment. DH has been sorting himself out .

As for dirty nappies, neither of my boys seem bothered about them, which is good, as quite often in the night i am so sleepy i don't even think of doing a nappy change .

SpangleMaker · 27/05/2009 15:44

Afternoon everyone

Just back from taking H for his first set of jabs. Poor chap was very brave and only screamed briefly. Gave him a bf in the waiting room afterwards while waiting the 10 min and he was fine.

Re marital relations - no action here I do have the inclination (tho not sure DH thinks I do) but the energy and opportunity are escaping me. How do you have the time?? At the moment I'm putting H to bed with me at 11pm by which time I'm knackered and wanting to take the opportunity to sleep (that's his best sleep of the night) Then in the morning he's wide awake wanting attention.

Bedtimes what are you lot planning to do? Partly because of the above, I'm toying with the idea of bringing forward his bed time, hoping he'll sleep in the evening and that that doesn't disrupt his night time sleep. I had a friend over today who was telling me she started putting hers to bed at 7ish very early on as she couldn't be doing without her evenings. I'm in two minds though, I do like having him with us and he's still so little... but it would help DH & I get some normality back if we had some 'us' time.

pulapula · 27/05/2009 16:14

spangle- DS2 is downstairs with us til i go to bed around 10.30/11 but is generally feeding/sleeping. I think its good to get their bedtimes forward - its great to be able to have an evening meal in peace!. If H is wakey-wakey in the evenings then you will have to take it slowly, bringing forward his bedtime by 15-30 mins every few nights. With my DS we put him down in our room between 7 and 8 every night from day 1. With DD she was really unsettled so we had to do the gradual move from a midnight bedtime to 7pm over a number of weeks!

I am really pleased. S (day 15) is now 8lb 15, almost 1lb up on his 8lb last Weds and well above his birthweight of 8lb3 so we have been discharged by the CMW .

OP posts:
pulapula · 27/05/2009 16:23

I should add spangle that if DS2 continues to go in his moses basket in the evenings with just the odd feed (let's hope last night wasn't a one-off) that i plan to start putting him down in our room rather than have him downstairs with us...

Last night we carried him upstairs in his basket at 11pm and i found it strange to go to bed without him but was looking forward to a nice deep sleep. I was woken at 11.30 by DD who was crying and needed a wee, and she also disturbed S, and in the end, i didn't get to sleep til nearly 1 .

OP posts:
Momino · 27/05/2009 16:45

afternoon all. at you all getting 'urges'. it's been so long since DH and I had marital relations that I feel sorry for him. But i don't have any urges for any action. partly, it's because i feel a bit sore from stitches, birth as well as bad, bad piles (only starting to clear) but also I don't feel like i'll feel sexy again. I'm also too tired to do anything at night but sleep. is there any hope?
