bb good to hear his bum got better. Im working on Izys so hes ona mix of cloth and disposable. I'm still trying ou wraps though. I bought some gorgeous fleece soakers but seem to be doing something wrong as he gets... soaked

gingersarah · 20/05/2009 10:06

OK - I am coming very late to the party but for various reasons am now considering a new pram / buggy for V (have naff old pram which I am happy to ditch at the earliest opportunity). What are you all using and what do you think of them?

I would really like something a bit tuff for some good walking - the sling is fine for gentle pottering.

When buggies say "from birth" is that really ok or do you need the carry cot bit till they can sit up? If so I think I will stick with naff old pram till V can go in a buggy. When would that be?

thanks!

BabyBolat · 20/05/2009 10:09

Yep exclusively cloth nappies and they are fab - Made a lot of mistakes at the beginning and poor Kara got really sore but took him to drs, cleared it up (still using cloths) and has been no problem since - I try and change him every 2-3 hours - we don't have wraps - just the pop in nappy (although have to say the white ones really don;t wash well!

Ginger, it is pretty similar, the only annoying thing is the daily washing - when I can justify the cost, I will buy another 20 (£300!) so I can wash less!

bronze · 20/05/2009 10:13

ginger I have a cheapy chicco that says from birth and i would use it from birth (did with others) if I didnt use the sling all the time. As long as it lays flat

mrsgboring · 20/05/2009 10:14

Morning all. Looby, hope you're feeling better soon - it sounds like a horrible infection. Rachel, hope you and Clement get over your cold soon.

Gingersarah, my saviour in the evenings is crap telly. I sit and hunker down for the duration with Simpsons, Scrubs etc. I also have a book on hand if there's nothing that good to watch, but mostly I fall asleep if I try to read. I feel a bit of a couch potato, but it isn't for very long in the general scheme of things.

Promised update from me

Umm, where to start. I'm a librarian by profession, but currently a SAHM. I tried to go back to work when DS1 was 11 months, but had childcare disasters and then decided I wasn't very career minded and didn't earn anything much really so I gave up and was much happier.

I now have two boys - DS1 is 3.5 and Edmund was four weeks yesterday. Before I had the boys, I had a DD who was stillborn at full term, so I consider myself a mother of three.

My pregnancy with Edmund was quite stressful. At the 20 week scan, they found a rare lung abnormality, which at that point we couldn't tell how serious it was going to be. The lung tumour was pushing E's heart right over to the wrong side of his body and they didn't know if the tumour would continue to grow and basically crush the heart. By the end of pregnancy though, the tumour had shrunk considerably, and after quite a few tests in hospital, E was given a clean bill of health and so we're home, being a normal mother and baby pair, which I never dared hope for (and am consequently completely disorganised). E will have to have an operation - probably at 6 months of age - to remove the remaining bits of abnormal lung (it's called a pulmonary sequestration and CCAM hybrid lesion if anyone is interested ), so he's having a CT scan tomorrow to check there's nothing else about the lung that is strange that might mean surgery would have to be done sooner, and so the surgeon can see exactly what needs to be done.

Other than that, it was all pretty straightforward E was induced and born very quickly in the end. My birth story is here

So that's us really. Brevity is not my strongpoint as you can see...

LoobyLaBoobs · 20/05/2009 10:20

thank you everyone for your get wells, you all probably know by now what a big wimp i am so its probably not as bad as i make it sound quickly learning mummies arent allowed to be poorly!! x

gingersarah · 20/05/2009 10:24

Hi MrsG, thanks for the update. Congratulations on the birth of your healthy baby after all the scares!

Thanks Bronze for the info about the chicco.

mrsgboring · 20/05/2009 10:25

X-posted - Edmund has a bad bum too, though we're currently doing exclusively disposable nappies - I have the Fluffles ready for when he is rash and thrush free. Am totally fed up with it - we have been given Canesten and now Daktakort, but the problem is he poos lots and lots - little dribbles every few minutes sometimes, and it's impossible to keep up, though God knows we try. I think a pack of nappies is lasting us just over a day at the moment.

BabyBolat · 20/05/2009 10:33

Wow congrats mrsG what a story, sorry to hear about your DD but sounds like you have a lovely family - wow wish my labour was 1.5 hours!!!

mrsgboring · 20/05/2009 10:36

Thanks BB. I do have a lovely family; I'm so lucky with my two fabulous boys.

Please tell me it is ok to spend the day in PJs in and out of bed. I'll hang the washing out in a bit but can't face much else. V is not happy really and when she is she just wants cuddles. I am shattered. I feel like a scum bag. Please give me absolution. Also please tell me it is ok to brunch on biscuits. This is not me, this is someone else. I need permission to be this person. I need to recover some strength before the blue meanies come back in the evening.

frekkles · 20/05/2009 12:02

ginger lass, i know exactly how you feel! ii've been feeling so guilty and bored if i don't manage to get out the house.it's balancing tiredness and the madness that ensues from not resting against the sadness and dissappointment at just being a couch potato. it's worse when the sun shines. i've just been trying to forcefully tell myself that harris'll only be a baby for a wee while. i need to rest and get to know him. and if that' s on the sofa in my pjs for a while then so be it. love to you. it's a hard transition to make from indepedant single girl to new mum. wish i had the overwhelming love for him to block out all the things i miss.

there's a line in a joni mitchell song (all i want) that keeps making me cry at the moment. "i love you when i forget about me"

I seem to remember having a baby in April, can I join?

gingersarah · 20/05/2009 12:12

Oh frekkles - thank you for understanding. It's so hard to become someone else even when you are under extreme direct physical and mental pressure to do so. You sound like you are processing it all very well though

How is your DP with fatherhood now it is a reality?

aww nutty!! im sure it was a lovely bogey you should save it for t's baby book 'first mahoosive snot job' ahhhhhh

Swaliswan · 20/05/2009 12:46

I'm doing really well, thanks Nutty! I can't believe that it's been almost a month since Beth was born and I haven't been on here since then. I've been trying to catch up on how things have been going over the past month for everybody else. I don't know where to start on updating you all about how things are here. It's a bit late for a birth story!

Suffice it to say that we are all well and have brilliant nights as well as rough ones. We seem to have escaped colic although Beth does suffer from painful wind occasionally. We had the most spectacular nappy failure earlier when 2.5 days worth of poo overflowed! I can't believe that even my beloved Tesco nappy let me down so badly. There was a LOT of poo though. I hate Pampers too, Nutty, but Tesco are about twice as absorbent as Huggies so I prefer them. I can't remember when I stopped changing DD1's nappy in the night but at the moment Beth still wees too much to cope without a nappy change.

Tomorrow is my first full day on my own with both of the girls since Beth was born. DD1 still goes to the childminder and my mum has been helping me out on the days when DD1 is here. Not sure how well we will cope but that is nothing compared to DH going away from mon-fri when Beth will be 6 weeks old Or when he is going away for two weeks when she turns 8 weeks old
