Argh!!!! I'm so out of the loop! It is hard to keep up when you've not been on here for a little while!

Myjob - Aw lovely tiny N. M was that weight and length at 3 months. M is getting so big and chunky now, it must be so lovely to have such a dainty little lady, especially as she is very definitely fighting fit with it.

Hello pistachio. I like your new FB video. It almost looks like you've set up a secret camera!

Star - Q is still so little that I doubt you'll do much harm at the moment. For the time being, your sanity is more important, you can always try again later.

M woke up after being put to bed this evening and........settled herself!! I am amazed! She was exhausted tonight but still had both boobs before finally going to bed. She has had bee eating loads of strawberries! I don't know what I'm going to do when they're no longer in season! I had to take one from her earlier and it was as if I was trying to murder her. She has eaten loads today which is great as she has been slow in getting interested in food!

star6 · 27/05/2009 21:05

MM Q loves mango and I feel the same about what to do when they go out of season! Too expensive then! Now they are 2 for £2 so I'm getting 4 a week and pureeing them. He can't get enough mango.

aubergenie · 27/05/2009 21:45

M- That's so funny about the strawberries. I'd pureed some strawberries with plain yoghurt and he was nearly climbing out of his chair to get more. When it ran out, he nearly had a meltdown. Fortunately, his daddy came home just at the right moment and distracted him. I was thinking, sh*t what am I going to feed him in the winter when all this lovely fruit goes out of season?

Marthasmama · 27/05/2009 21:52

Aubergenie & Star - We are going to have grumpy 'fruitless' babies come winter time! However, they will probably have some teeth by then and will be able to cope with apples. I got M some yoghurt and she kept trying to grab the pot so I let her have it. She had secreted a rice cake somewhere about her person, produced it and started dunking it in her yoghurt. She then tried to pour the yoghurt on her head.

Marthasmama · 27/05/2009 22:13

Star - This thread might be of interest to you as you mentioned about wanting to try pick up/put down.

aubergenie · 27/05/2009 22:29

I don't think S is ever going to grow any teeth MM. I'm going to have to get him some false ones made to stop him getting bullied at school.

I like the sound of M's yoghurt eating styles.

I've made some breakfast cereal cakes (cornflakes, oatibix, banana and milk mashed and baked in the oven), and I might try and get S to use it as a sort of dipper thing with some more yog in the morning.

Marthasmama · 27/05/2009 22:32

Aubergenie - I'll have to get M some too. She hasn't even got a glimmer of white in those gums. I didn't get any teeth until I was 11.5 months so I'm not going to worry yet. The longer they stay in the gums the stronger they are. I had to have my baby teeth pulled out as they just wouldn't budge.

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/05/2009 22:51

I've forgotten to post tonight (had reflexology and then watched Apprentice), and need bed now, so just a fleeting visit.

No teeth here either.
D a bit off his food the last few days - hoping he doesn't go the same way as dd who started weaning enthusiastically and then got bored and didn't eat for 4 months .

He still hasn't quite sussed the whole sleep thing. Up too early again this morning, and had to do the whole crying thing after he'd been asleep for 45 mins tonight (reflexologist arrived after dh and I had been up once each, so dh had to finish off).

Made the scones this afternoon aubergenie. Yum. D of course took no interest in them, but hopefully he will tomorrow. Dd had one and asked for another.

Honeymoonmummy · 27/05/2009 23:22

Hey all. I've not caught up properly, just the last few pages. I hope you're all well. I've decided not to try the thickener yet, today I've been doing milk feed immed followed by solids instead of the other way round, on the assumption that the milk will not sit on top and come back up. It's been a good day on the vomit front, she's only been sick once all day and that was only a slight possett.

I'm supposed to ring the paed dietician on Friday to tell her how the thickener and the neocate went down, I'm gonna tell her I've not tried either! Still not spoken to the HV altho she's left a message and I have a telephone consultation booked with the doctor tomorrow so I'll take their advice too. But if we continue to have days like this I don't see the point in changing anything drastically.

I also tried porridge without gluten today, made mainly with quinoa, mixed with my milk and water, and that stayed down too! So thanks CSWS. The acupunturist said that maybe the gluten was too much for her weak stomach at the moment too. I've been to see her today again, she's on holiday next week aargh! The needles she gave me in my ear last Friday, one of them was for my knee and whether it's that or my period coming which has changed my hormones somehow I don't know but my knees are feeling much better yay! I've also been in a much brighter mood this week despite the stupid paed dietician.

So fingers crossed things are starting to come together. I've also lost about 4lbs in 4 days, brilliant!

I have a freebie massage lesson tomorrow run by the local childrens centre and DH is off for half term so we're both going and he's gonna lead it, so that'll be nice.

Poppy is holding her doidy cup and drinking from it (not tipping it up very well tho) and putting a spoon in her mouth if you put it near her hand, she's growing up! And she's rolling over front to back all the time now, she's moving (mainly backwards) altho she's not properly crawling yet, but she's been on her hands and knees fleetingly in the last few days.

I got some rice cakes today, they're 7 months plus, are they a good first non-puree food and do I just give her a whole one on it's own or soak it or something??

Has anyone got links to some dairy and soya free recipes? We have the Ikea highchair in the kitchen now so I can do more in there. I can't have much bicarb of soda per the acupuncturist tho so no cakes But I could make flapjacks or something?

star6 · 28/05/2009 06:03

sorry - breaking news!!!! Q slept in his cot all night last night! From 7.30pm feed through - still sleeping! He woke 4 times, but only whimpering, re settled himself within seconds. Once had to turn over to his tummy and twice put binkie in. I did no sleep training or anything.
He did have a proper 2 hour nap yesterday, though - could that have helped? Is this a one off? Or did he learn something? I'm all confused!! HAPPY, but confused!

HMM - Q does same thing with crawling backwards - it's so funny, isn't it? I'm not sure about the rice cakes - was wondering the same (so afraid of choking still).

How long did you do the crying thing for csws? I know it's coming again for Q tonight probably...

No teeth here either. But loads of drool

heather1980 · 28/05/2009 07:57

well done Q!! alex always sleeps better at night if he naps well in the day. he slept till 7:10am this morning thank god.

you just give the rice cakes whole, however i don't like the baby ones, the rice is quite small and alex always gags on the bits. i give him the bigger adult ones these ones he seems to cope better with them. i spread hummous or cream cheese on them. shhhh i've also spread peanut butter on one or two and alex loved them.

star6 · 28/05/2009 08:25

peanut butter?!?! You naughty mummy! ha! I'm tempted to give peanut butter to Q as well, as we're raising him vegetarian and nuts will be a big part of his diet in a few months time.

Speaking of... was thinking about giving him beans. He's had lentils, egg and quinoa, but beans are another necessary element of a healthy vegetarian diet. So, what kind of beans should I start giving him? I was thinking aubergenie would know .

Well ds has had red kidney beans (in chilli), butterbeans (but removing the skins is a bit tedious, and I do find it necessary if giving whole), and a casserole with borlotti beans and haricot beans.

Well done Q for good sleep. D did well too. After he went back to sleep about 8:30, he didn't wake until after 4am! Had a good feed then slept for a couple more hours, stirred a little, then dozed off for another 40 mins or so.

D has had peanut butter too.

Is it recipes for main meals for you, or things for poppy that you're after hmm?

OP posts:
aubergenie · 28/05/2009 08:57

Star - Good news about Q! Send some of those cot vibes to S can you?

Re beans: You could make some kind of pate with butter beans. I'd blend together some cooked butter beans or cannelini beans with some garlic, a bit of finely chopped spring onion and maybe some roasted red pepper. If you wanted to make it more of a dip you could add a spoonful of yoghurt to thin it down a bit.

CSWS - Reflexology sounds lovely. I hope D isn't going off his food - he's started so well. Did you do BLW with your dd? It all seeems to be going so well with S at the moment and he seems to be enjoying pretty much anything that's put in front of him, but I was wondering if there's a stage later when they start to get more independent and become fussier eaters.

HMM- I hope the no-vomit programme keeps working for you. Sound promising so far. Really glad to hear you're feeling brighter .

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/05/2009 09:01

aubergenie - started with purees with dd, but she got to 7 months and refused to be spoon fed any more, and kept that up until she was well over 2! So we did blw from that point, but it largely consisted of her throwing her food off her high chair tray without bothering to taste it, and then crawling around and eating a tiny bit off the floor later (we had to leave it on floor as was the only way that she would eat at all).

OP posts:
star6 · 28/05/2009 09:32

oh no csws! sounds horrible! dreading that. Both DH and I are fussy eaters, so I'm not naive to the fact that Q will probably be as well... though I'm trying to expose him to as much as possible! aubergenie - will try that recipe. is that using tinned beans, then?
pistachio - can I have one of your soup recipes with beans and mixed veg?

aubergenie · 28/05/2009 09:40

You could use tinned beans Star, but rinse them well if they're in salt water. You could also soak (overnight) and boil your own beans without salt, then bag them up and keep them in the freezer.

CSWS - Sounds awful. I hope D doesn't go the same way. Embarrassingly, my first thought was, CSWS must have had to keep her kitchen floor really clean for 2 years, what a nightmare.

star6 · 28/05/2009 09:46

lol aubergenie!
ok, so if I soak the beans overnight (just in a bowl of water, covered?) then I can put them in bags for the freezer for use again? How do I prepare/cook them from the freezer? And how do I cook them from being soaked? Sorry for being so thick about this. DH used to do all the cooking. And I'm quite sure he used tinned beans as we don't ever use salt (don't even have it in our cabinets) and always look at salt content of what we buy to make sure we get what we need (there's sodium in SO MUCH), but not too much.

Hold the front page! I think S just rolled over! I left him on his back and when I came back in he was on his front. He won't do it again now though!

star6 · 28/05/2009 09:59

Hooray for S!!!
Pistachio - what makes the base of the soup? the tomato? And what kind of stock? Veg stock? Is there too much salt in the tablets? Do you boil the veg or roast or steam?

aubergenie · 28/05/2009 10:05

Star - You can buy salt free stock cubes in Boots, in the baby section.
