I'll take the recipe aub - want to try ds with a little cheese, and need more portable and not horrendously messy food ideas.

OP posts:
jenwa · 26/05/2009 10:19

See star thats how csws did it, its not too painfull that way either by not leaving to cry for too long either

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/05/2009 10:20

What is oz position - upside down? What else do you mix with milk hmm - all things with gluten in like the porridge?

OP posts:
jenwa · 26/05/2009 10:20

aubergenie yes please with the receipe. I am in to my cooking at the mo

star6 · 26/05/2009 10:35

LOL LOL LOL at imagining upside down poppy on HMM!!! LOL
HA!

Thanks Jenwa and csws. I'm going to try the CSWS tonight. Forget EASY and PUPD and CC... CSWS it is. I might have DH try it for an afternoon nap today, too.

Honeymoonmummy · 26/05/2009 11:07

Ha! No, she's straddling my leg and we're sitting up facing each other. Dammit, she's just woken up...just quickly not got the pains I thought I'd get...yet. Maybe due to DF?

Ekka · 26/05/2009 11:26

CSWS, thats great news on the sleeping and yay for D commando crawling. Star, sorry I can't offer much sleep advice, I just wait till it fixes itself, but then I don't have to work the next day.

Myjob - glad to hear N is a little bit brighter.

MM, the naming ceremony sounds great, I bet M looked gorgeous.

Pepper, sorry to hear about your wrist. Which doctor do you have? I can just hear my doctor giving useless advice like 'complete rest'. He suggested that M shouldn't be on the carpet at all because of his wheezing - all very well, but M is now so fast at rolling that I can't keep him on his mat for very long

HMM the Australian position sounds novel? I use nutramigen. If you do use it, maybe drown the taste in fruit puree for a few days as it really is disgusting! Get her used to it gradually. Its a complete PITA having to make up formula (apologies to those who ff - I am just a lazy cow!) even just for breakfast, so I can't see myself going over to ff, but I don't have a refluxy baby to deal with and I don't think my diet is as restricted as yours is? , so its not quite so difficult to bf.

Rhian - Our docs put Matthew on several courses of antibiotics for his skin as they said he needed to be on ABs if the skin was broken. Then we got the referral to our paediatrician and she was furious at him being on so many ABs, she said we should have been using steroid creams to bring it under control then gallons of moisturiser. Not that this necessarily applies to you, but just so you are aware, ABs aren't necessarily the answer.

M is rolling everywhere and has just started pushing himself up on hands and knees/toes. He doesn't quite commando crawl, but he does a sort of caterpillar move where he puts his nose down and humps up his bottom then pushes himself forward a few inches. Luckily he doesn't get too far that way or he'd have carpet burn on his nose! We have another paediatrician appt this afternoon, but this time I have to take dd along as well as her CM is on holiday. Dd is really very good for a not yet 2-year old, but she has soooo much energy .

Oops, sorry for the essay. I'm making the most of my 'free' time while dd has a nap and M rolls around trying to explore our living room . But as he just rolled into the piano with a resounding thud I think I should maybe get back to my duties!

Ekka · 26/05/2009 11:29

Sorry, just re-read what I typed & meant that its not so difficult for me to manage my diet while bf, rather than its not so difficult to bf - my brain isn't really on form today

aubergenie · 26/05/2009 11:41

Cheesy scones - You can use any vegetables you've got lying around to add the moisture. I didn't have courgette so used pepper instead.

Ingredients
225g SR flour
1 tsp baking pwder
45g butter
100g chedder cheese
1 small carrot grated
1 small courgette grated
herbs
60 ml milk

Method
pre heat oven 200dg /400dg /gas mark 6

Sieve flour into bowl , rub in butter then add everything else with milk put in last. Roll out the dough and cut into scones small scones. Put onto a baking tray and bake for 15-20 mins until golden.

They keep for 4 days in tin.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/05/2009 12:20

dh just let ds roll off bed onto hard floor, but apparently it was ds' fault and not dh's. (dh playing on laptop on bed)

OP posts:
aubergenie · 26/05/2009 12:29

Oh no! Is he ok? (ds not dh)

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/05/2009 12:37

Thankfully yes. Our bed is lower than many.

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 26/05/2009 13:52

DS's fault!!!
Tell DH to spend less time on mumsnet and more on childcare!

Honeymoonmummy · 26/05/2009 17:51

Hi all, just a quickie but paed diet was not what I'd hoped for. given me neocate as it's better for telling if dairy and soya intolerant apparently and she wants me to try thickener with brreastmilk so I'd have to express all the time. I really struggle to get a lot out expressing. I'm really frustrated about the whole thing really. Have left msg for nice HV to chat it over with me. I got the feeling she was trotting out the standard response, when I was actually saying I thought the vomiting was now manageable and I just wanted to know how/ if to reintroduce dairy/ soya and she's saying not till a year. She consulted with her colleague at one point, she was only young and i dont think really experienced. I dont mind giving up BF for Poppy's sake but not if there's no point doing so. Might start a thread - when I get time!!!! Laters.

aubergenie · 26/05/2009 18:25

Sorry to hear you're feeling disappointed HMM. Hope you get some useful responses on your thread.

aubergenie · 26/05/2009 18:58

S is really dribbly today and keeps doing lots of poos - probably about 6 small ones today. is this a sign of teething or something else, do you think? He's in good enough spirits, but I've noticed that he's been rubbing his eyes a lot over the last few days, although they don't look sore (and it's not only when he's tired). Could this be related, or something else?

Ekka · 26/05/2009 19:26

HMM - I sympathise on useless paed appts! We had ours (with a different paed as ours was ill) and she didn't prescribe any more creams as she said our doc should do that so I have to call the surgery tomorrow at 8am to get a docs appt. And then we got the results of the RAST tests - on a scale of 0-6 with 0 being no allergy and 6 being the worst Matthew came out as a 6 for both dairy and egg . This would explain lunchtime when I grated some cheese for dd and then picked up ds and he started itching within minutes .

So I am now generally p*ssed off with life!

I've given up expressing as it was taking up all evening and just not getting enough really, so I now use the formula to make up porridge etc and bf as normal at other times.

Got to go and do bedtimes now, will probably be on later as dh is working late again

aubergenie · 26/05/2009 20:04

Oh Ekka, how awful for you and M. Are M's allergies something he's likely to grow out of, or do they generally stay for life?

loulou33 · 26/05/2009 20:33

Ekka - sounds really tough having that severe an allergy - it must be hard work for you. I would be peed off too.

Doesn't sound very helpful HMM - not sure what to suggest really but my own expereince of paed diets are that they are not very good (sorry!) Would suggest starting a thread before you do anything...

CSWS - does the anthistamine thing also apply to using the cream? We are plagued with midges and i am covered in bites so i have been using anthistamine cream - its the only releif i get, tell me its ok!! Hope D is ok after his tumble...

Myjob - i don't usually drink, hence why i nearly fell off my chair. Maybe i should take up more drinking and this would help make me steadier

Star - you need to find a strategy and stick to it no matter what. You have to be comfortable with it before you start and sure of what you are doing. You also need to be sure that Q is not ill, dirty, wet, hungry etc before you start. If he wakes, will you feed him and then try it? I'm not saying you should but alsways doubted with Joe that if he woke, it might have been wind. I always winded him then when i was sure it wasn't that, i would put him back to bed and shush him etc.

Insecure attachment is brought about by REPEATED experiences of neglect and abandonment day by day over a long period (ie 2 years). It does not result from being left to cry for 2 hours on 1 or 2 nights (i'm not saying you should do this btw). Even less so if it is for for 5-10 mins between comforts (whether you pick up, shush, pat whatever) for a few times whilst a child learns how to settle. Remember, you are teaching Q an important life skill - self settling. If he learns that now it will be with him for life but not teaching him can lead to more problems with settling to sleep when he is older. i know children who still sleep with their parents at 12 years old!! It is really hard to hear your child cry but there will be many times over the next 18 years when that will happen i'm sure. Best of luck with it.

Right off to drink some non-alcoholic wine and see if i can stay on my chair

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/05/2009 21:24

aubergenie - about 80% of children will outgrow milk allergy, usually by school age. Am not sure of the stats for egg allergy, but know that it can be outgrown.
Nut allergies are the ones that stay for life.

loulou - hadn't thought about cream. Have no idea sorry, but if you've been using it and it hasn't affected your milk already then I guess it's ok!

aubergenie - eye rubbing could maybe be mild hayfever? Runnier stinkier poos common with teething (due to swallowing excess saliva), but not sure why they would be more frequent.

Sorry (but sadly not surprised) that your appointment wasn't as helpful as you'd hoped hmm. She clearly has no idea how unrealistic thickening breast milk is for most mothers. Would agree with her on not trying dairy or soya until a year though, as long as you are sure that she currently reacts to both. Did she talk about the order to re-introduce dairy in, as there is a generally accepted way to do this? Lots of MNers can advise when the time comes. If she still reacts at a year, then I would try every three months after that.

Swimming for us this afternoon. Was v busy being half term!

OP posts:
Ekka · 26/05/2009 21:56

Am back, finally, with a nice glass of wine. The allergy thing isn't really surprising and as CSWS says, a lot of kids do outgrow it, so here's hoping that M is one of them. It just means that we will be v careful of new foods from now on (especially nuts etc) as he seems to be an 'allergicky' child (think I just made that word up?)

Am just tired and generally grumpy with the world. The state of our house is getting me down as well - there are no clear surfaces and everywhere I look there are things to be done. I can't relax much when there is this much to do. Never mind, my parents are coming on Thursday so maybe they will help with the kids while I can do some tidying

CSWS - did your dh help with swimming? Or did you go by yourself. I'd love to go in the week with the two of them, but I don't think I could cope yet as dd can't swim by herself.

Oh, I meant to ask - if ds is allergic to egg does that affect whether he can/can't have the MMR? My mum was saying something about it, but wasn't sure whether it was still the case?

God Ekka that does sound severe, what a nightmare! I should shut up griping about a bit of vomit!!

Talking of vomit, Poppy vomited in my face this evening. Delightful. I was lying on my back with her sitting on my tummy, she leaned forward to get to my face (this was my mistake, too much pressure on the tummy) and DH walked in to see her vomit on my face...up my nose, in my (open) mouth... Needless to say, DH pissed himself laughing!

I hope DS is OK from falling CSWS!

Paed dietician wasn't very experienced and I now feel completely lost but I'm gonna sleep on it, can't be bothered to start a thread tonight. I don't want to do anything drastic and live to regret it.

I mentioned that I didn't really know if the DF and soya-free was working, that she'd gradually improved over time and I was there to see how to reintroduce those but she kept banging on about the fact that Poppy was mostly vomiting on milk, not solids, as if she was still hung up on the letter of the original referral (some 5-6 weeks ago now and probably badly worded) and took it as read, despite my saying otherwise, that we should keep Poppy off dairy and soya until 12 months. DH went with me and he wasn't too impressed either.

Honeymoonmummy · 26/05/2009 23:24

I'm taking my vomity face off to bed anyway. Night all!

Honeymoonmummy · 26/05/2009 23:29

Oh forgot to say, they weighed her today and she was the same weight as she was 12 days ago She had put on 8ozs in 9 days prior to that which was really impressive for her (taken just at the start of weaning). I think it may just be a start-of-weaning blip, having fruit instead of milk filling her up? I am a bit worried that she's not getting enough milk tho, I've been doing it at the end of every meal and not really inbetween, then one more after bathtime at night, I think I might start doing milk feeds halfway inbetween solid feeds. She measured her height today for the first time since 6 week check - she's gone from 25th centile to the 75th for length and dropping off 25th a bit this time for weight
