Myjob - That dress is lovely. Amazingly I haven't got that one for M otherwise I'd let you have it once M got too big for it, unless N has caught up by then with her epic eating. I really hope she's feeling better after a good night's sleep.

Ekka · 20/05/2009 22:52

Oh, myjob - I meant to say I'm sorry to hear about poorly Naomi. I hope she is feeling better by tomorrow and that she has a reasonable night

Night all!

Star - I'm still feeding to sleep but my intention is to tackle that last! Once or twice a week? Blimey that's a lot!!! I'd also back you up on a blackberry version I'm sorry you had such a tough time at the smear test.

MM - your womb faces the wrong way??? Sounds like Martha's gonna be a pilates instructor when she grows up! That Marks gown is nice too - and cheap! I get a 20% discount at Marks too!

Good idea re Next/ Monsoon and BHS too folks, thanks.

I'm sorry to hear you so stressed out about your DH's job Jenwa

I hope Naomi feels better soon MyJob

CSWS good luck with the job app.

Boo to cramping and grey hairs Ronshar!Neither of which thankfully I have had yet post-birth!! Why oh why did you have to mention toffee crisps? I miss toffee crisps

Puddle Ducks tomorrow. I've booked Poppy in for the underwater photoshoot, I just hope she'll be proficient enough to get a shot by then! (10 June)

Right, I'm going to sleep. Night all!

Marthasmama · 20/05/2009 23:02

Hmm - You're never around long enough to chat!!!! I don't know if it still the wrong way as being pg can make it face the right way. It reduces the chance of conceiving by 20% apparently. DH thinks he's got super sperm!

Honeymoonmummy · 20/05/2009 23:07

I'm still here!

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/05/2009 23:08

well that was a wholly unimpressive sleep from ds. Have had to feed him already!

Honeymoonmummy · 20/05/2009 23:10

Actually no I'm not, sorry but I need some shut-eye (nearly typed i instead of u then!)

I've been a domestic goddess today, pureed and froze cauli, broccoli and carrots! And pureed plums for breakfast!!

ronshar · 20/05/2009 23:12

CSWS, I try to be as dairy free as I can be but I love the cakes and the small bit of chocolate every noe and then every night

MM I have my pushchair issues under control at the moment. Apart from in Brighton yesterday I saw a stupid woman with baby in pushchair without the straps on. Poor little thing looked like she was going to roll out.

I had Toffee Crisp this morning. I was just topping up my supply

Jenwa, it must be so hard to stay positive when things are out of your hands like that. I hope it gets sorted out for your DH soon.

Ekka I have been trying to think of some things for you, but couldnt do better than CSWS.

HMM, I take it Poppy is loving the swimming.

Ekka - It seems so long ago that we took ds on a plane and I have no idea what we did to entertain him. When he was 15 months he screamed for the whole journey to Spain, but when he was 2 he was much better. IIRC he just laughed at the people behind and their 15 month old screamer!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2009 03:05

god I am sick of ds' refusal to be put down after a feed. Why can't he just stay asleep like when he's held. This is why every wake takes an hour or more, but I can't do this every 3 hours .

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2009 03:36

I really need a strategy for dealing with this. He's now shouting angrily in his cot after being up for well over an hour. Have even given nurofen just in case, but I don't think he's in pain, just cross. Please somebody help!

who asked about nursing bras and mothercare ones being rubbish?? I got some from Vertbaudet - exact size, very stretchy fit, LOVELY. I even got one underwire one... its amazing. Supportive and perfect. All bras I've gotten from there have been fantastic. And the ones I had fitted from john lewis and mothercare are total rubbish. It's not expensive either- they were on sale at vertbaudet and there's always a money off voucher or free shipping

aubergenie · 21/05/2009 08:05

CSWS - That sounds like a complete pain. Can you tell us exactly what happens when D wakes, and what you do?

Also, how many other times is he up in the night roughly?

I looked in my book but couldn't find anything specifically addressing prolonged night wakes, but I'm wondering whether anything else might help us to suggest something.

star6 · 21/05/2009 08:09

I want 5 hours of sleep all together!!! Or even 4. I'd settle for 4. That's all I want. 4 hours each night. Even if it's 11-3, that would be ok. I think I need it to function with my class during the day and with Q. So tired!!!!!
Q had cold clammy body, then burning hot then cold clammy then burning hot throughout the night. Gave calpol this morning.
I had fever, chills...etc.... yuck

aubergenie · 21/05/2009 08:14

Star - A friend of mine swears by the Pick Up Put Down technique in the Baby Whisperer book. I don't really know anything about it, but I know she spent about a week really focussing on it and her LO's night wakings improved massively. I've seen stuff on it the Sleep Topic (also referred to as PU/PD). If you both started on Friday night this weekend, you might start to see an improvement by Tuesday when you have to go back to work.

Just a thought - your situation sounds desperate.

aubergenie · 21/05/2009 08:16

Myjob - How's N this morning?

Rhian82 · 21/05/2009 09:06

DS had a good night last night, took ages to settle to sleep but then slept through till 5.20 We're all ill here, I'm off work (though had to get up to take DS to nursery). At least I've having my worst days (I hope!) when he's in nursery so I can collapse for the day.

He's suffering with nappy rash at the moment poor thing. Not really on the skin on his bottom, but in the creases either side of his testicles, the skin is broken and looks really sore We're putting metanium on it but it's not helping much, any suggestions?

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2009 09:47

What I normally do Aubergenie is feed him, and he often falls asleep in my arms after first breast. He almost always wakes when I put him down if he's just had one though, so I lift him up to check for wind, and then offer the other breast. Again he feeds and then often falls asleep in my arms. I can't just put him down in that position, because he will only sleep on tummy, so I lift him up on to my shoulder, and sometimes he snuggles into my chest, and falls asleep there. I give him a couple of minutes or so until he seems soundly off, and then I try to put him down on his tummy in his cot. Sometimes as soon as I start to lower him, and sometimes once he is in the cot, he starts to shout, and flips himself straight over on to his side or back and then starts shouting/crying (in a moaning, not a sobbing way). He will do this flipping over even though my hand is still on his back when I put him down, so that he hasn't lost contact with me. He will then moan indefinitely until I pick him up, when he will generally snuggle back into my shoulder/chest and go straight to sleep (occasionally I'll feed him a bit extra if I think he dozed off to soon in the first place). I'll wait until I think he's gone off properly (though have on occasion tried putting him down straight away), sometimes walking around the bedroom/landing if he needs a bit of coaxing to settle properly, and then try putting him down again, whereupon exactly the same will happen. After a while I despair and go back to my room in the hope that he will get bored of shouting and go back to sleep, but he doesn't, so I go back in and the whole cycle continues.

Last night he went to bed about 9:45pm (much later than normal), woke for a quick feed an hour later and went back to bed ok, and then woke at 2:11am and stayed awake until 3:56am. I then heard him stir (but not properly wake) at 6, again at 7:15, and then he woke up properly sometime around 8:15.

We use sudocrem rhian
I will look into the pick up put down aubergenie. I've tried somethign similar... but I always end up giving up. I keep thinking, well, he won't be doing this forever - he'll outgrow it... but then I try a new method and can't stand it, so just let him snuggle in bed with me and feed as he pleases. I'm a pushover, I guess.
He had a really good 3 month sleep stint!
He's finally back at a place where the FIRST wakes (9, 10.30ish) he'll re settle with a back/bum pat, but he keeps waking every 20 min or so... but at 1am he's screaming for a feed. I tried giving a bottle of water. he pushed it away and tried to get milk through my nightshirt.

star6 · 21/05/2009 10:01

csws after our bedtime feed, Q will be transferred into his cot without a problem, he'll stir a bit, but stays properly asleep then. I feed him and keep him in the cradled position after I've unlatched him or he's fallen off from being so asleep and then just put him straight into the cot on his tummy. DId you try putting him straight from feed position to cot so he isn't moved so much? I'm sure you have tried everything!!! Just trying to help a little.

I've not read everything but I wanted to tell CSWS - you are not suffering alone in this. I know it doesn't help you but it can sometimes make you feel a bit better to know that it's not just you, it's not just D. M was awake and crying from 1 until 4 last night. At one point I actually considered leaving her to cry it out as I just have no idea what to do any more. I managed 5 mins (maybe less, 5 minutes of crying seems like forever!) of leaving her to see if she'd settle before I cracked and picked her up. She was inconsolable! She didn't calm down until I fed her. I've tried patting, I've tried stroking the bridge of her nose, she just pushes me away and screams. I ended up with her in bed with me from 4 until 6 then she just woke up and screamed again. I gave her calpol before bed as she has been teething but in the night it didn't seem to be bothering her anymore so I didn't give more. I am just totally clueless. She is knackered and grumpy today & doesn't want to know me. She is with her daddy as he's trying to do some work. I am very lucky that DH has been taking ds to school in the mornings and taking M with him so I get to sleep for a bit longer so I'm not too tired. CSWS - WE NEED SOMEONE TO HELP US!!!!!
