hey Pixie hope you are ok too xxx

Gill79 · 02/01/2010 21:04

Hi everyone - hope you all had a great christmas and new year (recovered yet? Only just in my case) We had a lovely time and Malcolm thoroughly enjoyed himself with two sets of grandparents in the same house and many many presents.

It's all been a bit of an anti-climax since then though! He cried when we got home to our empty cold house.... Anyway he seems to have developed so much over the last couple of weeks with all of the people to talk to and things to look at. He's picking up loads of new words and when he gets in trouble says "mummy angry......sorry". Incredibly cute but don't think he really is sorry most of the time!

At the moment we are mainly crashing.... plane crash, train crash, car crash, malcolm crash. I blame Thomas because almost every episode has a crash in it. I gave Malcolm a doll for christmas in the hope it might develop his gentler side. No. Has been savaged by a lion, beaten about the head with a ukelele and run over several times by Malcolm's car.

How is everyone else's little ones? I bet they're all doing really similar things.

Welcome Elk

Sarah - good luck!! Will be thinking of you xx

Hello everyone, happy new year! [fmsile]

Sarah, I really hope it all goes well for you on Thursday, I will be thinking of you and Rosie.

Anyone made any new year resolutions? I have given up alcohol and am limiting myself to two cups of tea or coffee for January and I swear my skin already feels better. Otherwise, quitting work and moving to the country are our big plans for the year. Just need to do some final bits of diy on our house so its ready to sell.....

Any other news?

snowflakesarahandco · 03/01/2010 17:46

alkar · 05/01/2010 13:25

Snowed in again and boredddddddddddddd!!!

Gill79 · 05/01/2010 13:37

Wow that sounds great strawberry. Are you giving up work indefinitely?

Where are you Alkar? Is it snow you can play in?

I know it's a pain but I am so excited about more snow! And absolutely loving the cold crisp weather. As long as the boiler holds out... we are thinking of doing the boiler scrappage scheme this year.

AngryPixie · 05/01/2010 17:26

No snow here in SW London yet, but they keep promising! I'm v excited will build snowmen and then snuggle up on the sofa with my 3 dizzy kippers and drink hot chocolate and watch DVDs!!!

My NYR are to finally make it to the intermediate class in belly dancing and learn to ice skate. I start my ice skating classes next week! Oh and talk DH into number 4, which will take a miracle of epic proportions

Seems like you have major life plans strawberry - busy year for you!

alkar · 05/01/2010 20:50

Made two snowmen, I have to say Daniel was no help at all though

Dreading the drive into work tomorrow though. I booked Thursday off but I'm working Friday night shift. Wish me luck!!

Sarah, hope you are ok and getting ready for Thursday x

Bessie123 · 06/01/2010 13:13

Sarah what's happening on Thursday?

Elk my dd was born on 22 Feb as well.

snowflakesarahandco · 06/01/2010 19:49

Thanks everyone,

We are all packed and ready to go for Rosies operation tomorrow, have to be at b'ham childrens at 11 for surgery in the afternoon, will keep you posted as to how we are getting on etc, xxxx

bessie Rosie was diagnosed with a condition called DDH (a missed clicky hip)in october and has to have surgery to correct it,!!!!

strawberrycornetto · 07/01/2010 13:21

Sarah, I am thinking of you and Rosie right now. I am sure it will be ok.

My DS is having lots of medical stuff done at Great Ormond Street at the moment. He is having a general anaesthetic on 1 Feb, so I know how worried you must be but I am sure it will all be fine. Please let us know.

DS is having a pH Study done next Monday so we are going to be in over night for that. Then on 1 Feb he is having a ct scan on his chest. That is the one that needs a GA. He is also having a repeat sweat test, a tube oesophogram and a swallowing assessment. It is all to find out whether there is an underlying cause for all his chest problems. So far, we had a barium swallow which did show some reflux, so I am kind of hoping that this is the case and it can be treated. Still worried about cystic fibrosis but trying to remember that all the signs so far indicate he does not have it.

Hope everyone is ok in the snow. Its not too bad here but school is closing early so off to collect DD and then sit under a duvet with hot chocolate and biscuits (with any luck!!)

alkar · 07/01/2010 13:39

Have they done any genetic testing strawberry?

strawberrycornetto · 08/01/2010 22:05

Hi Alkar. They have done the genetic test and it was negative - that's what I mean by the positive sign. There are lots of circumstantial things which make me worry but I am focusing on the genetic test - the chances of him having two rare genes is so so small. But I guess we worry about even the tiny risks with our children.

Sarah, I imagine you are busy but I just wanted to say that I hope it went well yesterday and that Rosie is doing ok. It must be very frustrating for her but it is the right thing for her long term. I really hope you are all coping.

snowflakesarahandco · 10/01/2010 09:19

hey ladies.

Rosie is doing really well. op was fine she was in for 5 and 1/2 hours in the end and was a success, had ct ans mri scans on friday and it seems the hip is not quite where it should be(they think a ligament has slipped in the space between the hip socket and ball) so they want to go back in and re position, it means a second much shorter op and another over night stay but we are ok and just glad its picked up now rather than in weeks to come!

Rosie has been a real star, not at all bothered and generally very happy,

had a good first night back home, was up a couple of time to move her to a different position and change her nappy, but better than expected,

i will post a pic in my profile for you to see, xx

SC= the general was no where near as bad as i expected it to be so hopefully that can ease your worry a little xxxx hope all goes ok for your little man xx

strawberrycornetto · 11/01/2010 00:11

Sarah, so glad to hear it was ok. Hopefully the worst bit is now over. We are off to Great Ormond Street in the morning, weather permitting. General isn't til next visit though which us 1 Feb.

Bessie123 · 11/01/2010 11:34

Sarah - so glad to hear all went well for Rosie. How is she doing now?

snowflakesarahandco · 11/01/2010 17:25

she is doing really well, very happy, playing and watching tv- we are adjusting to life witht the cast and its not as bad as i had imagined, she doesn't seem to be in any pain and is only having calpol as and when needed so all good, xxxx

alkar · 12/01/2010 18:51

Glad Rosie's doing well Sarah. Hope today was ok for you strawberry

snowflakesarahandco · 13/01/2010 19:07

how did u get on SC?

We are baclk for 2nd op tomorrow, i am shattered!!!LOL

will let you know alls well once were home XXX

oh and its about time our thread got a full reunion, come ladies post if your lurking xxx

strawberrycornetto · 13/01/2010 21:42

We did ok. The pH study was quite traumatic but we finally got a negative result on the sweat test which is brilliant news, I am just so relieved. Waiting for the study result to see how severe the reflux is in order to find out what medication he will need. His doctor said he will definitely need medicine though. I am now feeling really bad for not giving more thought to reflux, I knew he had it when he was newborn but thought he had outgrown it when he started sitting up. Now it looks like he just stopped the vomiting and has been aspirating it since. I feel terrible thinking he may have been in pain and unable to express it .

Hope tomorrow goes well Sarah.

lljkk · 16/01/2010 17:34

I guess that's some good news, Strawberry. Sorry it's not all good news for you.

I was just checking in but not much to say. DS is still cute tho' at 23 months I reckon he only has 18 regular words (that includes animal noises). I dunno when I'll break down and talk to HV about SALT: what the heck do they do for speech therapy for under 3s, anyway?

But he's very cutely running back & forth across lounge just now, making something like aeroplane noises and in some kind of fun game of his own making .

Belated Happy New Year, all.

lljkk · 17/01/2010 11:10

ps: is anyone getting anywhere with toilet training? DS is Totally disinterested -- very disheartening, bcause DC1-DC2 already had the idea at this age (if not the control). And DC2-DC3 both toilet trained at 25 months. But can't see it happening with this little lad...

alkar · 17/01/2010 17:14

This morning DS told me he'd done a poo, first time he's said it so thats as far as we are with toilet training (or not) lljkk. Going on holiday in May and I'd like him to be toilet trained by then but who knows

strawberrycornetto · 17/01/2010 17:23

Hello. We are doing nothing with toilet training. DS is facinated with the toilet because his adored big sister uses it, but is very frightened every time I suggest he goes near it or near to a potty. Not in any rush, DD was about 2 1/2 when she got the hang of it I think and not properly until almost 3. I have friends with DCs who are 4 1/2 and still having accidents and not dry at night. DS does tell me he's done a poo, but sometimes he just says it to get out of doing something else, so he's not especially reliable!!

Speech wise, he's doing well. He's up to 5 word sentences and his special trick is knock knock jokes!!! That said, he's second centile still for height so I guess they all have their own strengths and weaknesses. His strength is definitely his speech.

Still waiting for the final result on the tests from last week but the more I think about it the more I think its reflux. I am glad in a way that its something that can be treated.

Bessie123 · 18/01/2010 09:13

strawberrycornetto glad the sweat test was negative and you think you've found the problem, that must help with some of the worry?

Sarah I hope Rosie is still doing well.

We have sort of started toilet training dd, she will do poos and wees on the loo but she doesn't always tell me when she needs to (sometimes she will ask, sometimes not). I'm trying to take it slowly because it seems a bit early to do it all in one go. Also, because dd is so pleased with herself when she does a poo on the loo she often tries to do one when she doesn't need to, I'm worried she'll get toddler piles or something.
