Slept through! (till 7!)

zoejeanne · 13/06/2009 08:00

Good morning everyone, what a lovely lovely day . (those who?ve had a bad night, please turn away now). DD slept from 7.30 last night to 7 this morning (with a small grizzle at 5.30 when we brought her into our bed), and now she?s singing and squeaking at her play gym and making lovely happy noises. I too am making lovely happy noises, because today I have a wonderful daughter

Thank you all for your sympathies on my Monday meltdown, I?m feeling much better now some time has passed, even though DD still isn?t that keen on day time naps. If this doesn?t sound too weird, I think I needed to feel that low and it get it out of my system because I?m feeling a lot more positive again now and know that ?this too shall pass?. An odd thought popped into my head yesterday when I was battling with DD to have a nap and doing endless PUPD ? I remembered that when I was at primary school, there were 4 children there who?s mother was a thalidomide baby and had no arms, and I just thought to myself how on earth did she manage so well with 4? (they were all lovely children, and she pretty much did it on her own as she split with her husband when the youngest was little) After remembering her, I was so grateful that I could PUPD DD and cuddle and realised I should count my blessings (BTW not only is this lady an inspiring mother, but she?s an inspiring artist and paints brilliantly with her feet ? I went to a foot painting workshop than she ran and it was hysterical, I couldn?t even manage a vaguely straight line or a dot, yet she paints beautiful watercolours )

On food, I think we spend about £300 a month on food, but its hard to tell as I?m a fan of making life difficult for myself and going to the greengrocers, bakers, butchers, dry food store etc etc and supermarkets just depress me. I do 1 or 2 supermarket shops a month, to get the bits I can?t get elsewhere and it does always seem very expensive for the small number of items I get (rarely less than £50, and I don?t even fill one of those small shallow trollies), so I?m not convinced that ?every little helps?. I can?t remember who said this, but I too am an online whore for clothes and other stuff, but have never bought food online ? and I don?t really know why

OK, DD wanting attention now and DH is also getting up so I will go and get some breakfast with them, will be back later with personals. Have a good day everyone

waitinggirl · 13/06/2009 09:23

congrats to those with sleeping babies!!! !!!

zoe - know what you mean about having to hit rock bottom in order to count your blessings - i did that this week. an old schoolfriend with whom i was never really good friends (but know through facebook) has had severely premature twins - they have been in intensive care for ages, are in and out of surgery, laser eye surgery etc etc. they have only started breathing on their own recently (in fact, i don't think one of them can yet) etc etc. it is heartbreaking - she has only been able to hold them once, and there i am complaining that madam wakes up 4 times a night.
go

trace!!! - i have done a similar thing in the past - you did really well, and your sex and size (petite lady) probably protects you more than you realise - it is a powerful weapon to be female and tiny, i think (at 5'10" i can't be sure about the latter)

dh is out walking madam at the moment - i have had a shower and breakfast on my own - bliss!!! good weekends to all

Quick good morning before I get out into this sunshine.

Bisou mum sent me a Bonds easysuit I love it no poppy button things. I have rung her to get me more but with short sleeves as the ones she sent have long. Have you got any of these, I love them already and only just unpacked it.

PMK I think there might be a think on the website to say you were recommended or maybe I recommend you not sure will check. Also you could swap and get other delivery companies. If you don't shop regularly with Ocado they assume you are using someone else so they send you an email offering a 15% discount. My friend waits til the email comes then gets her delivery. I think effie said she has got ocado accounts under several different emails and just uses the one they have sent the discount to each time she shops.

ZJ I often think about my old patients and their families when getting a bit down about things and I realise how lucky I am. However, I think it's still ok to feel quite overwhelmed at times and wish it would all dissappear for half an hour.

Hope you wrist feels better soon Kayz.

DS2 fell out of bed again last night. Bizarrely he managed to fall of the bottom left hand corner of the bed!? He's fine and had a massive feed and then went back to sleep til 7am but how on earth did he get there?

Also have a cheeky admission I am loving this sunny weather but not just for the warmth but for the chance to show off my assets!!! Before DS1 I was 'barely a B cup' but got huge with BF but most of the big times with DS1 were during winter. Now with DS2 I'm at my proudest in summer so I've started wearing normal bras again (easily slip the cup down for feeding) as BF bras don't go well with summer tops and I'm getting these puppies out there! Oh if my countrywomen Germaine Greer could see me now!

traceface · 13/06/2009 21:30

hello
Kayz your rabbit is sooooo cute! And go girl TTC this year! I take it your dh has agreed to that now?! Would you want another boy or a girl?
ZJ so lovely to hear you feeling more positive. Am very of all these sleepers...I'm convinced I'll be the last one to get a full night's sleep!
I've done some gardening today which was lovely at the time but now I have a streaming nose and eyes and all the antihistamine stuff says not to take while BF
Veggie - get your baps out girl! You have to make the most of the sunshine!
well better go...back soon xxx

zoejeanne · 13/06/2009 22:41

What a quiet day today, everyone must be making the most of the sunshine (at least I hope you?ve all had as lovely a day as we?ve had here)

NJAN I think your DH is great for wanting to be a SAHD. Is he good at housework too? I think my DH would be a good SAHD, but I know he?d be a terrible housekeeper! He just doesn?t notice mess or dirt

Kayz I hope you?re friends wedding went well today? What a lovely wedding present she and her husband got!

I?d not heard of the twilight books, but they sound up my street so will be hunting them down

The pram would be perfect Jolly (we?ve spent many hours spent wheeling DD round the kitchen!), but my little baby has outgrown the cot so we can?t put her back in it . She did have a nap in the pushchair today, for a whole hour , which was ace. One minute she was happily playing with her cow whilst I was gardening and the next she was asleep ? she got lots of cuddles when she woke up, for being such a good sleeping girl. And I?m also only giving DD soft foods that won?t choke her. I?ve been given one of those little mesh bags that you can put food in and they can suck, but I haven?t tried it yet ? it looks like something that is guaranteed to get strawberry juice everywhere!

Trace and well done for intervening, hopefully you managed to make that man re-think his behaviour ? in general and not just in front of children. So sad that things come to that. And changing the subject totally, my hayfever has also been bad today (DD keeps giving me ?don?t do that? looks every time I sneeze) ? I have a nasal spray, which although says it isn?t suitable in pregnancy and when BF, I checked with the doctor last year and was told that using it when needed (just not every day) was fine. I also love Boots cooling eye masks, will be taking one to bed shortly. Hope your nose and eyes are feeling better now

Bisou DD does like to be on her side too, but isn?t as insistent about it as J seems to be, she?s liked it from day 1 but I was too scared to leave her like that when she was tiny, in case something terrible happened just because she wasn?t on her back

Veggie when you go back Down Under, you and Bisou should set up a hand sewn baby accessories shop ? between you, you?ve already got most of it sorted!

Very lovely to hear from Pingu, Nolda and Olipop and to know your babes are all thriving

I took DD for a walk in her carrier today, we?ve not used it for a while and by god, has she piled on some weight since I last used it. It says its suitable up to 9 kilos, as she?s only about 6 at the moment and it nearly got the better of me, I doubt we?ll be using it in 3 kilos time!

OK, going to get myself some sleep now, night all

Kayzr · 14/06/2009 06:52

Morning,

Zoe It went very well. I did take off my bandage though for wedding pictures. She did very well with the not drinking. She told most people that she wanted to remember her day so wasn't going to drink and they were all fine with it. It was also 60's weekend here and the reception was near the market place so we went out and danced to some of the 60's tribute bands!

Trace Yeah I think he is alright with it. But he is one of these men that says "Well if you want to we'll do it" So I never really know if he is happy doing it or not!! We really want a girl, so we're going to do that Shettles method thing. But if we have another boy then that is fine too.

Hope everyone is well. I am not sleeping at all at the minute. Been awake since 4 this morning. I've decided if it happens again then I am just going to get up instead of just lying in bed. The night before I was up from 2, it is so annoying because DS2 is fast asleep and so there is no reason for me to wake up.

EffiePerine · 14/06/2009 08:13

Glad to hear of some other side sleepers, it's the only way I can get DS2 to sleep in his cot! But then he often flips himself over and gets cross cos he's stuck.

Veggie, I am v tempted to get some proper bras. The bf ones are just depressing me. God knows what size I am now though.

Can I ask for some positive basket thoughts for my friend? She's facing a rather scary medical procedure with severe side effects (don't want to go into details on t'internet) and has a challenging couple of months ahead.

Kayzr · 14/06/2009 10:54

I have been thinking and I think we will hold off ttc until next year. I am losing this weight and I would like to enjoy being slim for a while before pilling the pounds back on. I haven't told DH yet though.

MomOrMum · 14/06/2009 13:49

Kayz - I've had the exact same non-sleeping problem as you the last couple of nights. So frustrating because DS had a good night last night (not as good as your DS, but he slept from 11-5) and I was up from 1 am to 5 am for no reason! Knackered today so just lolling about in the sun and sending DH and DS out of the house as much as possible.

I found DS on his side the other day at the end of a (very rare) 1.5 hour nap. Maybe he'll start sleeping better if he figures out how to hoik himself onto his side more often?! Can only hope....

Breastfeeding bras...so tired of them. Stretched and faded and yuck. Have even sported some of my old bras with underwire.

Sleep is a distant memory, but at least we're having a GREAT time with the whole baby-led weaning lark. I think I must be a very negligent mum because I don't seem to have this choking fear that everyone has?! DS has definitely coughed and gagged on a couple of things, but he always seem to get it up just fine? Have to make sure to keep a close eye on him just in case. He seems to love everything (no surprise since he is probably over 10 kg now and a real chunker) and quite a bit is making it in if his nappies are anything to go by (TMI!). He even fed himself porridge with a spoon today - most of it hit everything other than his mouth (forehead, legs, table, floor, cat) but I think some snuck in there.

Effie - Sorry about your friend. Sounds terrifying. Positive energy flowing from here for her!

waitinggirl · 14/06/2009 14:46

new thread needed asap - any good titles out there???

OP posts:
jumpjockey · 14/06/2009 18:16

Arse. I hate the new internet explorer, had written a really long blimming reply and went back to the tab to reread the previous page and it closed the tab with the reply in it! will try and remenber it all once she's gone to bed and i've got two hands agin

Veggiemummy · 14/06/2009 18:56

I think the new title should have the word embuggerance in it.

Kayz is the shetties method the one where you stop having sex 9 days before you are due to ovulate? If so a friend of mine did that it took 6 months to get pregnant but it was a girl hooray!

Have had a lovely day, DH is away next weekend for a wedding so we had fathers day today. I made him a full breakfast in bed with home made hashbrowns. We gave him his presents which the bits made at the local paint a pot shop, a plate with DS2's footprints and a fighter jet painted blue & green (ds1 got to choose and paint his present to Daddy). Then I went for a ride on my road bike on a lovely hilly ride. Then I went to DS1's football to watch, he is so cute at football, then we packed the boys onto the chariot trailer and rode to one of DS1's friend's birthday party. Luckily I went for the ride because I ate a lot of party food and cake. Back home now and just put DS2 to sleep I think DH and DS1 are downstairs eating something then off to bed for DS1. Then DH is going for a run. It feels so nice to be active again, I just wish DH and I could run & cycle more together. We are thinking about getting a babysitter to come at 7pm one night to watch the boys while they're asleep so we can go for a ride together. It's still so light then anyway.

Kayz I think it's a good idea to get yourself back to a weight your happy with before starting to try again, it just means there is that much less to lose after. Also you only just got your bike.

sybilfaulty · 14/06/2009 20:35

Hello lovely ladies

I have missed you SO much - have been away on our holidays to Devon and Cornwall for a couple of weeks, and getting over the pox at the same time, so am hugely behind. Am going to save my long read for a bit of feeding time with my lovely boy (esp as there's a glass downstairs with my name on) but just wanted to say hello in case you thought I'd departed for ever!

So much to read, so much to tell. I've got a free day tomorrow as girls back at nursery, DH back at work so just me and my boy. Wull read and reply tomorrow.

Hope you are all well and your babies are all still gorgeous. Love to everyone XXXX

Veggiemummy · 14/06/2009 20:47

Oh lovely to have you back Syb, hope you had a brill time, great weather for you!

Also forgot to add in last post, we have been giving some slightly dodgy DS2 foods lately out of necessity really. We never seem to be getting our heads around taking food with us for him. We went to a Japanese restaurant yesterday and ordered a seafood tempura platter for DS1 he loved the fish and prawns but wasn't too fussed about the squid so we put aside but DS2 was going mental seeing his brother eating and wanted to eat too, our food hadn't come yet as we'd asked them to bring DS1's first, so we could give him any veggies to knaw on. He was getting quite angry so in the end out of desperation I took the tempura batter off the squid and gave that to him. It was actually perfect as it was long and had those cross cross bits carved into it so was easy to hold plus as it's quite rubbery happily gummed away at it for ages. If he ends up with a seafood allergy we'll know why.

LadyThompson · 14/06/2009 22:11

Evening ladies

I got back from London late last night and I skived cricket today to take DD to a 3rd birthday party. Yikes...there was a cardboard castle in the back garden (child size) and some poor bugger was marauding around in a dragon suit (cue lots of traumatised tots, one of whom was screaming "Go away Bad'un!" as she couldn't say dragon) and lots of tiny thugs belting each other with toy swords...But my little cherub just liked watching the other children, and had a go in a swing, which she loved, and played with her first balloon (also a big success). I was glad to escape, though, to be honest. I gave DD a chunk of pineapple to eat (which she enjoyed) and I clearly overheard someone say "they should just be having milk at that age". She is ten days short of seven months, but I guess she looks a bit small for her age...

Hennyway, lovely to see some old faces - Oli, Pingu, Nolda! Pingu, these HVs make my hair curl with their manipulative, prescriptive tosh. Like smoking indeed...

Oli, I can report I got the other Twilight books (ta for all the offers of lendsies but I decided I couldn't wait ) and I am now thoroughly in touch with my inner 14 yr old, slightly shamefaced and thoroughly enjoying myself.

Arti, I didn't see D in the end as we were both busy, and now he has gone away for a couple of weeks. But may I recommend Enchanted April for your list? It's very Merchant Ivory (but not them) - about four women who rent a beautiful house for the summer in Italy in the 1930s and how it works its magic on them. So charming.

PMK - I am a supermarket tart. We use Sainsbo's home delivery, but not always. and shop at either Tesco's, Sainsburys or less often now, Waitrose. There are lots of Co-ops in Oxfordshire so we sometimes go there too. Oh, and Asda if I am in the Midlands as I think it is v good value. If we do a home delivery we spend about £120, which I can make last almost a fortnight with top ups of fruit and veg and bread (and cheerfulness). But if we go to the supermarket it comes to an obscene amount, as DP is out of control.

JJ - THANK you for the post and you will be getting a little something in the post yourself as a token of my gratitude.

Bisou - lovely to see a bit more of you! Yay.

Kayz - cute piccies!

Welcome back dear Syb.

ZJ and Trace - my obs said Beconase (sp?) is ok for use in pregnancy etc.

Oh, forgot to say - DD has a little tooth! It turned up on Tuesday. And she can now roll from front to back (but not, seemingly, the other way round). And she is her mother's daughter as she tried to dive into a glass of champagne on Friday night...it was a very nice evening and we had just had supper out near where I live, as DP has worked very hard this week. We strolled past a hotel and as DD was asleep we had an cheeky spot. I popped to the loo and when I returned DD was suddenly on DP's lap (he said she had woken up but I am suspicious) and I saw her try to grap his champagne flute, first with one and then with two hands! Then she opened her mouth wide and tried to put it on the rim of the glass When we had stopped laughing I filmed it on the phone and she repeated it all - I will post it on Facebook if I can work out how...

It was such fun being in my flat in London...but I didn't get a lot of work done so it's as well that I am back. Night girls, sleepy dust from the wilds of Oxfordshire blowing your way.

LadyThompson · 14/06/2009 22:14

Who is going to do the new thread? Veggie?

I am devoid of inspiration as usual.

Veggiemummy · 14/06/2009 22:38

Sorry I can't start one as I'm on the itouch not the laptop so can't link.

Forgot to 2nd Tilly's recommendation of 'the Dish' and also add 'the castle' by the same people. It's really funny. It was actually made to raise some money to make 'The Dish'. Both very easy and nice to watch, feel good and funny. But then I might be biased.

Kayzr · 15/06/2009 07:27

Morning,

I can do a new thread but have no idea what to call it.

Still didn't sleep last night, getting a bit fed up now. Everyone else is asleep but not me.

Hope everyone is ok!

hi all,
just bookmarking myself.
DH told me the following facts (gleaned from t'internet I believe so possibly bollocks)
If you think your baby feeds a lot:
The average baby blue whale drinks 200 litres of milk a day.
And puts on up to 44kg a day!
