Hi Trace hope P is feeling a little better now ? I hate it when they are so small and ill, you feel so helpless. Have you got a KArvol plug in ?

WRT co-sleeping,I do have a DH, but he sleeps in a variety of places at the moment, on the sofa, in the spare room etc depending on his state. He has hayfever and is a big snorer so this is partly for my benefit. It is definitly worth trying to feed lying down. I started doing it with DS1 as I woke one night and I had fallen asleep sitting up and so had he and his head had falled right back, cos I had relaxed. So now, if either of us fall asleep it doesnt matter, and it feels lovely and cosy in the middle of the night snuggled up lying together. Both DSs really loved it.

LadyT - hope you are feeling OK. Your life sounds so busy !

Work - I dont know when I'm going back. Probably July. I'd like to take the whole year off but I dont know if that would be best for anybody. I never get a break, so last time I was glad to get back to work to have an uninterrupted cup of tea and more adult company, and it is harder with two small ones. I dont have a car during the day so I'm kind of stuck local (public transport is totally pants from here). And if they have to go to nursery, probably best to keep DS1 going, and start DS2 before the clingy phas starts

Trace this is one of those old wives cures but (and this sounds weird) if you put vicks on the soles of their feet then socks on their feet before bed it will clear them up a bit allow a good nights sleep and will be much better the next morning. It helped ds2 recently. The chamomilla is only a small dose but will help settle her and you can give more just maybe not straight away as she might cough and aspirate on all the powder.

Forgot to add about cosleeping yesterday. Trace we just bung ds2 in between us. He isn't keen on lying to feed but I have slowly got him more into, if he's really agaist it though I just sit up. These days he doesn't wake for his first feed til 5.30 so not so bad tosit up for. There has been a study done recently on cosleeping which might put your mind at ease and it points to many benefits for mum and baby. It is the one that they drew on to make thelatest SIDS guidelines (not to do if you've been drinkng are a smoker etc) and due to the study HV can now officially say its ok to cosleep.

When you come up Pingu let me know we can pop out for a coffee, there is a great new coffee place on the Strand called quite appropriately, the strand. It's across from the Library.

tillyfernackerpants · 09/05/2009 00:03

Veggie, that sounds really good if a bit bizarre! I use Vicks when I'm ill but didn't realise you can use it on babies. Is it only the feet you can put it on, not their chests?

traceface · 09/05/2009 00:56

well P is still really unhappy and awake, and now L has woken up crying with a cold too. Dh has just got home from the ball (he didn't marry anyone) so he has got L in our bed with him and i'm downstairs with P. have been in the bathroom with the shower on and the sound and steam has calmed her a bit. i wish i could be poorly instead.
my carboot pal has text me to say not to worry because P comes first

traceface · 09/05/2009 07:07

now i'm actually quite worried. i've never seen p anything like this. i've not even been to bed because she is so distressed at being put down but also if i try to calm her. she has slept on and off lying across me but wakes every few minutes crying. she's really hot so i'm trying to keep her away from my body at the same time.

spotofcheerfulness · 09/05/2009 07:58

That sounds horrible Trace - have you tried calling NHS Direct? Maybe they could judge if P needs to go to A&E?

spotofcheerfulness · 09/05/2009 08:30

Veg, meant to say thanks for the advice re-T's ishoos, after a sleepless night (T keeps coughing himself awake then puking up the feeds we offer him to try and get back to sleep) will def see a GP on Mon. Also will look into homeopathy, do they all treat babies or do I have to see a specialist one?
LadyT, just wanted to say sorry about the house and the period and all the other things that would have a much lesser woman than you beat. Hope the Badminton trials are fun today and you have some time to relax and recharge!
More later.
x

tillyfernackerpants · 09/05/2009 08:55

trace how's P this morning? Glad your friend said not to worry in the end!

Veggiemummy · 09/05/2009 09:11

Oh Trace poor P. It's quite scary for babies when they are I'll full stop but as they are nose breathers not bring able to breathe properly through her nose would be v. Scary. We had a similar distressed episode here until 1am. I think it was a combination of feeling crap and wind from feeding with a snotty nose. He did eventually settle though, and doesn't have a temp. I say Trace if your at all worried or her condition changes, ie she won't feed at all or becomes too quiet and lethagic just take her to A&E. It won't hurt.

All very quiet here DH & DS1 have left for London and ds2 and I are cuddling on the couch. Not sure what to do with myself with just one to look after. Maybe coffee, or is it too early.

Veggiemummy · 09/05/2009 09:12

Tilly there is a baby vicks, I'm not sure of the name of it though. I still put on the chest too.

Kayzr · 09/05/2009 09:17

Morning,

Trace I hope P is ok this morning. I'm sure you know this already but their is a Hotel Chocolat on something street!! The one with HMV, I am awful with road names in York.

Surely it isn't too early for coffee Veggie??

It is really lovely and sunny here so I might do some gardening. I have loads of seeds sprouting now.

Hope everyone is ok!!

Veggiemummy · 09/05/2009 09:26

Oh and Spot I think my lady specialized in pregnancy and childbirth but I thin they all do babies. You could always ring and check. Where do you live? They can be quite expensive in London.

daisydora · 09/05/2009 10:14

Trace how is P this morning? I do hoppe she's a bit better if not do you have an out of hours GP's you can use? I've lost count of the number of times I have taken DD to ours.

In a similar situation as both DD and DS are full of cold here too Thankfully DS is not too bad, DD is quite poorly. I would have given her some medised as she is really sneezing and is very congested. But its changed to age 6 now apparently. She has had it before - have they changed its content now? She's 2.9.

DS crying best go, he keeps coughing and waking himself up so he hasn't had a nap yet since he woke at 6am

Veggiemummy · 09/05/2009 10:45

No it's still the same but there have been concerns about the sedative antihistamine in it. I don't think the concerns are for anything longterm so what she has had shouldn't be a problem I think there were increased allergy concerns in the under 6 age group and the possibility for hallucinations. The directive came in, in March this year.

daisydora · 09/05/2009 10:57

Cheers veggie I never liked giving it her especially during the day as she was a lot more lethargic having taken it. She's had some calpol and she has Olbas Oil on her vest. So the house stinks but she is a bit perkier

Might see if she fancies a trip to the park after lunch, if she says 'yes' I'll know she's not that ill

Veggiemummy · 09/05/2009 11:41

As long as she has something to eat with it, Neurofen is great for making kids feel better because a lot of what makes them feel bad is inflammation of their airways and sore inflammed throats. So does help them feel better so helps them sleep. Just make sure you give her at least a little yoghurt or milk with it as it's bad for their tummies if they are empty so that is one drawback as when they are ill they don't want to eat.

daisydora · 09/05/2009 11:48

Tell me about it! DD is a fussy little madam at the best of times. However, she is nibbling on a cheese sandwich, will see if she fancies a yoghurt as well

Veggiemummy · 09/05/2009 12:13

Oh cheese sandwich nibbles is fine, it's just when their sick a little yoghurt or milk is often easier to get in. As long as it's something in their tummy, even a bikkie.

Trace are you there, how is P. I think we have a sickies club. Ds2 has had a little nap and is feeling a little brighter but still snotty and easy to grimble. I want to go out but feel like he might need a couch day.

traceface · 09/05/2009 12:34

yes veggie i'm here. p just had a sleep for nearly 2 hours so i slept too. dh has taken dd1 to the cinema. anyway she's woken up screaming again but has settled on the boob which is good because she's refused boob all night. she looks pale but i guesss it's her temp. still so hot poor thing. and very smelly trumps not sure whether to go to gp to check throat and ears or whether they'll say it's just a cold so no point.
hope your ds2 is perking up.

Veggiemummy · 09/05/2009 12:41

It's so sunny I might take ds2 out for a drive to Bakewell no idea what is there but have always fancied a look.

traceface · 09/05/2009 12:51

i've been there veggie. don't forget to buy a genuine bakewell tart

Veggiemummy · 09/05/2009 17:29

Back from Bakewell, resisted a bakewell pud but had a nice coffee and bought some egg cups and coffee cups. What an exciting life I lead. Lady I heard an update on the Badminton horse Trials on the way home, did the Italian rider win?

traceface · 09/05/2009 20:42

Well P brightened up a little this afternoon after some ibuprofen and even lay on her mat holding a toy for a few minutes and smiled at me! So nice to see a smile when she's been so sad. She went down to bed nicely so I'm just waiting to see what the night holds. If I make it to bed at all it's an improvement on last night!
Veggie - glad you enjoyed your day out How is ds2?
dasiy - how are your DCs?

Veggiemummy · 09/05/2009 21:27

He's better this afternoon. Bit bored with being home alone, well except for him upstairs. I recorded Anna Keranina a few weeks ago and have been saving it for when DH is not home. I read it ages ago and loved it but for some reason all the drama and sadness just annoyed me. The same thing happened when I tried to watch Brideshead revisted a few weeks back. I did read both books around the same time so maybe it was at a time in my life when I liked reading about people having loveless stifled lives, in high society. I do remember when I read the book I quite like the Levin story line, but found Anna a bit annoying.

jumpjockey · 09/05/2009 21:40

just bookmarking the new thread, bit of a dodgy evening here, dd went off to sleep happily enough at 7 but woke up at 8 crying, took til 9.15 to settle and has just woken up again Hope to catch up with better news tomorrow...
