LadyT yes I reckon Six Feet Under was the last one I got into as well. I think I got US TV show fatigue round about Desperate Housewives, which I hated. I'm a bit of a victim of overhyping though so I'm always a bit wary of shows which get rave reviews. On that subject, you were asking weeks ago what I thought of Little Miss Sunshine. Well I finally finished it a couple of days ago (that's how much time I get for telly atm) and what can I say? I quite enjoyed it but won't remember a thing about it in about 2 weeks' time. If I'd stumbled across it in some back street cinema without having heard of it I'd probably have enjoyed it more, but tbh I don't really know what all the fuss was about. Hmm, something tells me I don't have a future as a film critic. I can just see the posters now: "Quirky genius" - Empire, "Life affirming" - Daily Mail, "Neither muckling nor mickling" - poisondwarf. Oh and I meant to ask - when are your team playing at Hindhead?

Veggie bless, love the bravery certificate story - almost makes me want to take DS for his jabs now.

Lal good to see you back. I can't remember anything about weaning either. I spent so much time Googling last time round and this time I simply cannot be arsed. If anyone can be bothered and has the info to hand could they post a quick run down of the order you're supposed to introduce the various food types? I might just ignore it all anyway this time but good to know. Oh and I know you know this but there really is not much gagging with BLW (well there wasn't with DS), and anyway gagging means the opposite of choking. Kind of.

Well soft play was hideous. Why oh why did I decide to go during half term when I am trying to potty train DS? He spent most of the afternoon clutching himself and looking quite distressed and I thought the ball pool was going to become an actual pool at one point. We just about managed in the end though, and he did his first (humungous) poo in a potty when we got home. Honestly, I'm still buzzing - parenthood does some strange things to you, that's for sure.

Right, I'm off to dream sweet dreams about big steaming turds - night all x

Kayzr · 27/05/2009 06:59

Morning,

Lal Good to see you. Weaning isn't really working here. DS2 just spits everything out.

LadyT I got that book for my brother for Xmas!! He loves cricket and I saw it in a little book shop in York and thought he would like it. He thinks it is great and his fiance has borrowed it now.

I have decided to save myself £5 for every lb I lose. Then I will have a nice amount of money to buy myself some new clothes.

Hope everyone is ok!!

tillyfernackerpants · 27/05/2009 07:03

lal nice to see you back! Your ds's comment made me lol!

Ds1 also came out with comment to my mum over the weekend. She'd bought him a bat and ball set & asked him where her bat was. 'Nanny, you don't have a bat', 'Yes, I do, P', 'Nanny, look at your hands. See, you don't have a bat'! My parents thought it was hilarious!

veggie ds1 really is a brave little soldier. I think ds1 has his jabs coming up soon, will try the same approach but after he saw ds2 have his done ('that wasn't very nice' he said to the nurse!) I'm not hopeful!

poison yep, soft play is hideous at the best of times but half term its hell on earth! Well done to ds on the poo!

Oh yuk, just taken a sip of tea & the milk is off [bleurgh]. Can't get any now until after I've dropped ds1 off at nursery

EffiePerine · 27/05/2009 08:12

PD, great news on the potty training, empathetic shudder on soft play at half term! Weather was disgusting in the morning, luckily it cleared up cos we had visitors in the afternoon and were planning a barbecue in the garden. Which we managed. LOL at 'neither mickling or muckling' . BTW if you want to take a chance on some HBO series we have quite a few knocking around (inc the West Wing) if you want to borrow them. I as never keen on Desp Hs or Lost or any of that lot, but would agree with LadyT that there is some seriously good writing out there.

DS2 had a horrendous night after being angelic all day - awake and screaming for ages at 1am, then awake again 2, 3, 5... now of course fast asleep. Gah.

Lovely to see you Lal

EffiePerine · 27/05/2009 08:14

oh and I can heartily recommend M&S's new tiramisu (25% off at the mo). Gorgeous. They had a key lime pie as well. All with no added whatsits (not wotsits, that would be weird).

EffiePerine · 27/05/2009 08:19

oh and DS1 is still being a potty refusenik - any tips? I'm inclined to leave it a few days then start again with a nappy-free day on Sunday... tried putting him in pants at the weekend but he gaily pooed and weed in them without compunction. I don't want to traumatise him about the whole thing, just get him out of **&&$%$%& nappies!

tillyfernackerpants · 27/05/2009 09:08

Effie some friends had a sticker reward chart for potty training that worked for them. I found just leaving a nappy off when at home, having the potty nearby & not saying anything about using it helped! Good luck!

jumpjockey · 27/05/2009 09:10

morning all, bit of a shocker last night - dd managed to wriggle out from tucked in under a sheet (too hot for the grobags we've got at the mo), up the 'step' between her bedside crib and our bed, round in a big circle and off the side onto the floor we heard her wriggling on the monitor but assumed it was just the usual shimmying about she does - is usually on her front by the time we go up to bed. then a big 'thunk' from above, silence for a second, waaaaaah.

big big cuddles and straight on the boob for a comforting munch, and she was ok after about 5 mins, but yikes, this means we're a bit stuck as to what to do with her. she usually rolls around a lot anyway, but now my old favourite nap method of lie down and feed her to sleep on our bed is off the menu. the bedside cot is too narrow if we put the side up next to us, but having tried her in the cotbed for naps she rolls over and ends up scrunched up in the corner and cross.

is it against the law to put your baby in a straightjacket if they're too big for swaddling??? our good nights away seem to have been one offs (three offs?) as now she really is captain wriggle, and feeding to sleep doesn't work as she latches on, sucks for a few momwents, lets go, then does a quick 'back and forth' roll and sticks back on. i have no idea if she's actyually asleep during all this and it can go on for an hour at a time [yawn]

pmk1 · 27/05/2009 10:17

Morning - and a much better night here. B slept 11-6 and only a very quick half waking at 130 for dummy reapplication again funny you should mention it JJ but last night we went back to the swaddle (in a large Muslin) and it was the first non-waking sleep in a long time.... How are we going to get him off the swaddling? 2 weeks on holidays and now 2 weeks at home unswaddled, and wakings 3 times a night - swaddled and barely woke once

Lady, sorry to hear about your curry - I bet you could be a good cook but it just doesn't interest you? I can be a good cook when I get "into" it and all enthusiastic, but when I'm not in the mood, and get impatient and just chuck food together it comes out like crap. Sorry to miss you too the other day. the dishwasher is finally plumbed in, but the old one not taken away yet

Tilly, I sent you an email - yes I think i'm gonna try Virgin Active as they have loads of baby swim classes and also an Aqua babies course, pluis plently of family swim time. But we are often up at richmond park, so i will check if you are around for a coffee next time the dh wants to circle it 3 times on the bike as fast as he can! Which gate are you nearest to?

Poison, thanks for that website!! it's quite good however it tends to compare the other supermarket with items that aren't exactly the same and when I want chicken thigh rather than breast or salmon fillets skinless rather than skin on it gets annoying. Genius idea though. I did them all individually and it's hard cause Ocado is cheaper on some things surprisingly but really expensive on their steak, fish and cheerfulness, but have great delivery. tesco has crap delivery. i think Sainsbury's is worth a try - can you believe i still haven't done the shopping! Must do it next though!
Hi Lal - nice to see you again-

Turnip where are you???? wanted to know if you tried the creche at the gym for your little one?
OK off to do the shopping now....

pmk1 · 27/05/2009 10:18

JJ! I know what you mean - B is wriggling all over the place - can't leave him anywhere we used to unless fully wedged!!

poisondwarf · 27/05/2009 10:59

Effie can't take credit for that line as it was lifted from one of my favourite films, Billy Liar. Worra classic. Thanks, think I might just take you up on the loan of a box set although will probably need about a year to get through it at my current rate. Potty-wise I've been finding that lots of fake sympathy and over-the-top "oh, what a shame", "it doesn't matter", "never mind, we'll try the potty next time" after accidents seems to encourage him on to it.
Another thing is to shove a book in his hands once I've got him on there so he forgets he's there and relaxes. Having said all that, he's just done a big wee in DD's Bumbo as I was typing. Ho hum.

jj that sounds scary. What about putting her mattress on the floor and lifting her up when you come to bed? DD does the tug & roll thing sometimes as well - the infant feeding specialist I saw told me that babies tug and nip to stimulate production. With DD usually changing sides usually sorts it out, but she will sometimes do it on both sides if she has already fed from both sides.

spot I missed a big post of yours at some point. Are you coming over next week? Any day is good for me - looking forward to seeing you. What was your sis on Radio 4 for (apols if you said & I missed it)?

spotofcheerfulness · 27/05/2009 12:41

Which line, PD? Effie, how do you feel about this libellous slur? . Yes, was planning on coming up one day next week, think I suggested Tues or Thurs to effie, would either be better for you? Good luck potty training DS, I'm afraid I did giggle at him doing a wee in DD's bumbo .

My sis is a breast cancer nurse and often does media work for the charity she works for. She is v professional and caring and am v proud of her (am also proud she didn't puke up live on air ).

JJ, how scary, sorry you had such a bad night (again), I'm afraid I have no advice for Captain Wriggle other than maybe a large swaddle a la PMK might be the way forward? As she is so active in the day I wouldn't think you'd be affecting her motor development and would give you both a chance for more sleep?

No major thoughts on internet shopping as we put up with crappy Tesco, and each week they call and say they can't find our flat and it's a different person each time. They have such a large turnover shows the working conditions can't be that great, the drivers also say they don't get shown the delivery instructions you can put online so it's totally pointless doing that. Grr...

Lady, with you on the ropey Thai curry, it's a dish I consistently manage to get wrong, you'd think I might have learned my lesson, but I agree with PMK in that you probably have to be in the zone to make a decent fist of it (V odd metaphor mixing there).

Hi again, lal, nice to to see you again .

pmk1 · 27/05/2009 13:42

Well..... finally did a Sainsbury's one! I feel so lazy grown up! I can't believe the amount of you that use online shopping for groceries! I've been a total online shopping for everything else, and quite the Ebay slut, so this is exciting for me! I'm going to try each of them once, but so far Sainsbury's seems to have what I need...
Yeah Spot, not sure whether to keep going with the lightweight swaddle or not - he's got to get out of it sometime or other, so perhaps I should just continue with the wakings until he cracks it....?

ok, i'm off to switch a tankini top I bought for the pool for one with some padding in it - not only have my ladies shrunk to nearly non-existant since the end of BF, but would also like some lift if you know what I mean and they have one with an underwire... how lol oh well he was worth it

poisondwarf · 27/05/2009 18:28

spot I would have thought with your mastery of all things elliptical you would be able to work out the missing word . I hope you are now as confused as I am .

pmk I wish I could give you some of mine. I going to be bra shopping in builders' merchants if they get any bigger.

Poo watch update: big jobs in little undies. Luckily DS was at Grandma's at the time. Living near the PILs really does have its rewards, it must be said.

Hurrah, Apprentice tonight. Who's for the chop? I reckon evil Debra's comeuppance is nigh.

poisondwarf · 27/05/2009 19:19

A degree in Italian and can't spell stiletto. I blame the education system.

On second thoughts maybe he'll keep her in to spice up the final showdown...

Just talking to myself now aren't I?

poisondwarf · 27/05/2009 19:20

Well if you will insist on talking crap...

spotofcheerfulness · 27/05/2009 19:34

SummerLightning · 27/05/2009 19:35

at pd
I think Debra's in for the long haul. Alan always has some bitchy woman that he likes and keeps in (e.g Katie hopkins)
I commented on how she spells her name and DH now always calls her DE-BRA, as in remove your bra.
Oh and I am with you on Little Miss Sunshine. Didn't like it all that much. Hate american movies about "quirky" disfunctional American loser families. Though the girl was cute.
I do like Desperate housewives though. And Lost. All trash for me when it comes to TV.

SummerLightning · 27/05/2009 19:37

Oh, I can make a mean thai curry (modest, me). Though I do cheat and use the Thai curry paste from the local Chinese supermarket.
And I love cooking but am not that good at it in general.

traceface · 27/05/2009 19:59

hey up!
Have been reading when I could over the last few days but our broadband and phone are only working intermittently so it's been a bit of a pain.
lol at PD talking to herself
JJ sorry about the scary moment - eek
LT I am a member of Crap Cooks Anonymous! although not really that anonymous. I can truly say that in my 32 years I have never managed to make a successful omlette . I cook because I have to eat, not because I want to cook!
Kayz well done you on all the weight loss.
Well P has thrown me this last couple of days - been rather on the grumpy side and has had moments of proper yelling - wobbly squawk and everything! I've no idea why and that has shaken me a little - I thought I could read her but it seems I now can't. She has also refused to sleep in her cot in the day and has taken much holding tight and walking around with her to settle her, which is not normal for her. Hopefully it's a phase! I started weaning her about a week ago - we just have a few mouthfuls of mushed veg and fruit at lunch time but I'm going to start some breakfast too tomorrow. I too have totally forgotten how to wean and had to ring my HV to ask what to do! She had 2 nights with only 2 wakings (hurray!) but reverted back to form after that (boo).
Well dh is sitting patiently next to our unstarted game of Upwords so I ought to go and join him...

have a good evening xxx

modernlove · 27/05/2009 20:34

Good evening!

I'm looking forward to the Apprentice. I too would love Debra to go!!
About to try and put DS into cot - he has been fighting sleep but finally dropped off on me. I have to put him down as I'm making choc chip cookies and the mixture is chilling in the fridge before it goes in the oven. Yum - can't wait!

Veggie - those initials are mine. People didn't seem to be using nicknames so I followed the trend. Loved the injection story - how brave.

Tilly - DH was playing for Leeds. He doesn't play for them regularly anymore but always goes to the annual tournaments (and quite a few have been in Battersea in the past few years). What team does your DH play for?

DH and I do get addicted to DVD box sets very easily. Trying to get into first series of the Wire at the moment. We are excited about new series of House (but don't have sky and that's where it will be shown) and have recently been obsessed with Dexter!
I have had Little Miss Sunshine on DVD for a while now but not managed to watch it yet!

Right - he's in the cot! Hooray. Time for cookies to go in oven!

daisydora · 27/05/2009 20:40

Good evening, just posting before I move to mums for a couple of days. The builders are coming tomorrow to sort out the mess, and as I have asthma I don't fancy hanging about. They assure me they will be finished by Friday tea. I hope so as we are having DS's Thanksgiving on Sunday and people are coming back to ours for a BBQ However, if the forecast is accurate then we are in for a heatwave, and everyone will be outside instead of inside where we have no carpets down!!

Off for a glass of cheerfulness and The Apprentice now.

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 27/05/2009 20:43

Hello everyone, it's been forever! I hope you and your gorgeous babies are all well - I can't pretend I'll find the time to catch up so sorry for the impersonal greeting.

All is well at this end, my lovely twins are doing well, particularly Vic who is 4.5lbs heavier than Hope. He is a proper bruiser - we should have called him Sherman . Hope has a tooth, loves sleeping and singing but doesn't move; Vic has just learnt how to blow raspberries, loves dummies and waking up at 3am but is a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic. They are fascinating, getting easier by the day but still lots of work. I now have to psych myself up for weaning, I think it will have to be BLW with two of them, just can't face the thought of spoonfeeding them both.

My main problem is not knowing what stuff I can get away with taking two of them to - the thought of singing/music with two is daunting, and swimming is obviously out of the question. Anyone found any good stuff round Hackney?

jumpjockey · 27/05/2009 20:47

Right - we've gone for the temporary holding measure of adjusting dd's cot so it's now about 2" lower than the bed rather than just a cm - if she gets over that we're taking her to join the circus! Seems to be utterly unharmed by her experience, so we're just chalking it up and trying to make sure she can't manage it again...

Right - quick catch up.

box sets - oh dear... DH has a thing for Frasier, and since there were 11 serieses that's a lot of shelf space!

internet shopping - confess that we get ours from Ocado - mainly because a friend of mine named it back in the mists, but also because we've never had a problem with replacement things, the price match with tesco on a lot of stuff, and the quality is always very good. Dad had a great one with sainsburys - ordered 6 pint glasses for when the lads were coming over of an evening, got 12 half pint glasses instead we did once get someone else's ice cream instead of our oven chips but didn't complain, it was yum!

PD that's interesting about the stimulating supply thing, maybe there's another growth spurt in the offing. About to reach the Half birthday so very proud to have kept bfing going this far - even if it's exhausting sometimes and means very few nights out (well none if I'm honest) and she drew blood with her little fangs the other day - it's still lovely to know my boobs have carried on this far! And must give a massive shout out to the breastfeeding drop in clinics, they've been a life saver.

veggie what a brave little soldier ds1 is - you must be very proud

dammit. dh says tea time - I promise tomorrow to have a proper read through and then start posting properly again! You guys are a total and utter life line and very much appreciated. And you must come and visit Cambridge! SL and NJAN and I will organise and make the weather good and we can take over the Mill green or some such. It will be lovely

jumpjockey · 27/05/2009 20:51

just quickly - fantastic to hear from you NQSBB and great to hear that the twins are doing so well
