Kayzr · 25/05/2009 09:10

Veggie I might be going to Nottingham in July, so if you are about we could maybe have a coffee.

EffiePerine · 25/05/2009 09:27

Sybs: I would have thought EBM for DD2 a v good idea if she'll take some. Poor bean. At least you've got it all over with at once (small comfort at the moment, I know!)

jumpjockey · 25/05/2009 12:22

hello all, quick update from us. Wedding in Glasgow was lovely, though the first one I've been to where the groom was 20 mins late and the best man 5 mins after that! dd was a total charmer, and and we've had 4 good nights' sleep in the last 5 - by which I mean waking up 2-3 times and being able to go back to sleep without crying this is a great revelation for us and hope it's going to carry on... managed to get on fine with mil, despite lots of silly advice, and all in all a lovely weekend will attempt to catch up with everyone this evening!

pmk1 · 25/05/2009 14:50

hi veggie, you are the Ocado order queen right? I did a whole tesco one then lost the lot when i updated my address so decided to look at Ocado's and nearly everything is out of stock!!!! Is that often the problem? Does anyone else do online groceries? I can't be assed fighting the crowds anymore....

Veggiemummy · 25/05/2009 14:51

Hi Syb sorry I've been offline all morning how are you doing? The older they are I think the worse it is. The EBM can't hurt though I think she will be building up her own antibodies, often the symptoms are a result of the body fighting the virus. As is always the way when I need my homeo family remedies book I can't find it. What you use depends on the symptoms. With DS2 I used merc avuris (sp) because he was having high fever and sweats in the night. During the day I was giving him rux tox which is a general chicken pox one, 3 times a day. For the itch I used poxclin from boots. It's a moose cream thing which cools their skin rather than calomine lotion which relieves the itch but dries the skin so then makes it itch more. I have some left over I could send to you but it won't get to you until weds. It's a shame because I have loads left and I don't think we will use it. It quite expensive but worth it. The oatmeal baths are helpful and she can have as many a day as she wants. Oh and the other old faithful remedies are pulsitilla and chamomilla. I have the ainsworth remedy pack I don't know where to get the remedies by themselves except online or through a homeopath so that's not much help really.

pmk1 · 25/05/2009 14:53

Hi Sybil - sounds nightmareish for those little one's of yours - and for you! Hope it all clears up soon.

Veggiemummy · 25/05/2009 14:55

Oops accidently sent that what I was going to add was unfortunately there is not much more than what you are already doing to relieve them it's just one of those things you havevto ride out. However if the temps don't seems to be settling or the skin around the pox get very red and excessively oozing go to your GP as they can become infected which is nasty.

Kayz it would be great to meet up in Nottingham let me know when right gotta go boys are going mental cos I'm ignoring them.

Veggiemummy · 25/05/2009 16:16

I don't usually have too much trouble with out of stock stuff but maybe they've had a higher than normal usage over the bank holiday.

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 16:54

PMK We get ours delivered by Asda and it's really good.

modernlove · 25/05/2009 17:21

Hello. Hope everyone has had a lovely bank holiday weekend. I've been away at my parents which was lovely and little L enjoyed himself. We went on a trip to nearby zoo and he seemed to be mesmerized by the lemurs and smaller monkeys but no interest in the larger animals - and we even saw the tiger and lions being fed! DH was down in Battersea playing in a hockey tournament but got back late last night.

Sybil - I hope DS and DD2 feeing better.

Verso - 7 hours in a row!!! - I think we had thar once so I live in hope that it can happen again! Also, how did your interview go?

Spot - hope the coughs are settling. Do go back to your GP if not - they should be taking things more seriously.

LadyT - hilarious candle story!! Baby group was good although people being mean about the poor lady who brings her three other children and talking about having secret meetings without her! I can see what they are saying (after the jumping on couch with shoes), but I would not want a new mum to be isolated and not invited to the group. If it's sunny next time I'll put them in the garden with choc ices.
The Apprentice - I love it and DH will always sort DS out during that time so I don't miss it. Yes I'm fond of Howard and also Yasmina! Thought it was a brill one last week at the baby show.

ZJ - I'm very jealous. We've been to the Algarve quite a few times and go to Armacao de pera. We had planned to go this month before I go back to work but didn't get round to getting passports (DH's has expired, mine still in maiden name, DS's first one).

PMK - we use Tesco on-line and have had no problems. Any substitutions have been fine also - although one delivery guy said that screw in light bulbs were once substituted for bayonet ones!

Veggie - hope your sore throat better. I have had one for a couple of days so am hoping it will settle and not lead to anything worse!

Right - off to decide what's for tea but feel it will have to be something unhealthy as am craving lots of bad food!

daisydora · 25/05/2009 19:29

Quick post, hoping everyone has had a lovely bank holiday weekend

I have exhausted myself and have had a proper 'spring' clean. Gardens/cars/kitchen cupboards/windows (inside and out). I think I am trying to clean so that it won't be too hard dealing with the aftermath of the builders at the end of this week. Still at least it will be sorted!

verso Excellent news on the 7 hours.

veggie hope your feeling better soon.

sybil hope the lo's are improving, esp DD2.

LadyThompson · 25/05/2009 20:41

A quickie from me girls, as I have a stack of typing to do for DP as a favour - he is giving a talk to some solicitors in Birmingham on Wednesday and he has left it all to the last minute and needs my help

Syb, hope things are getting better for you. Gosh, sounds awful...Veggie is brilliant with her remedies, isn't she?

JJ - glad you have had such a good time (ditto WG. By the way - there is a hot new actress called Tuppence Somethingorother, so I think the name is on the rise!)

ZJ - the Algarve - luvverly! Two things I noticed when I went there - lots of sparrows (nice to see as there aren't many in Britain any more) and also an interesting preponderance of Indian restaurants, as I think Goa (and maybe other parts of India) were Portuguese colonised at some stage.

Verso - happy 6 month birthday to little F and also I think to DaisyD's LO?

PMK - sorry to miss you the other day. I use Sainsburys for home delivery. They have been surprisingly decent. Free delivery if you spend over £100 and various other offers. Kayz, I am envious of Asda, there aren't any near here. I think it is really good value and also I think the kids' clothes are very good from there.

Modern - that makes me sad that lady is ostracised, even if her kids are a bit raucous. I'm not a fan of sofa trampers myself, but poor old her...

Well, my news is merely that my cricket team lost yesterday, I have been having yet another meltdown about my weight (and reading yet more stuff about how having polycystic ovaries and insulin resistance makes it hard to lose weight, which I already know, but it is such a downer), and spent the afternoon in slightly hilarious part of Gloucestershire at friends' which is like Stella Street - Kate Moss, Jason Donovan and Gary Barlow all live very near each other and shop at the local Londis (that's all there is!) Happy Bank Holiday to all. And what a duff night on telly!

EffiePerine · 25/05/2009 20:46

ah, we have the final episode of the Sopranos (series 1) to watch, when DH finishes work (grrr). Yet another series which passed us by and turns out to be bloody brilliant.

I fear we are scarring DS2 for life, he is now known as Pongo and it does suit him .

LadyThompson · 25/05/2009 21:12

I stopped watching The Sopranos after Series 1. But Series 1 was great.

Pongo! Funny, cos I now find I call DD Stinko or Stinkbox, even more than Froggy, Frogmella, The 'Mella etc.

I HAVE to order The Wire and 30 Rock.

Where's Lal? Where's Katie?

EffiePerine · 25/05/2009 21:25

I did suggest we could call DS1 Bingo but this did not go down well

waitinggirl · 25/05/2009 21:40

ladyt - 30 rock rocks my world - we are awaiting series 2 on dvd. only thing which got us through the hell of the first 3 weeks with madam.

had a really stressful wedding - it ain't much fun with a baby. as soon as she is old enough, i'm palming her off on a babysitter for the next wedding we've got.

also - the hotel we were booked into was a shitty old motel with wobbly walls, which meant that when we got back at 10pm after the wedding, to find that the entire hotel was thudding to the beat of a disco populated by people in fancy dress (buzz lightyear, 118 men, marilyn monroe etc), i took screaming baby, demanded to see the manager (who was too chicken to see me), said this is not acceptable, we can't stay here, we're packing up, driving back to london and give us our money back - and they did! we have had a hell of a weekend, all in all.

and last night madam slept unswaddled for the first time in the grobag - and was great (2 wakings only) - tonight she screamed her head off, vomited her entire feed up and was little miss perky after that. at last she is asleep. we are so so tired.

and dh is still shingly.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 25/05/2009 22:23

WG thats nightmare about the hotel, but JJ I'm glad your Glasgow wedding went well, where did you end up staying in the end?

Effie I think Pongo is fine, it's better than constantly confusing your beautiful offspring with the cat as I am still doing. I don't think either of them are bothered, although Leo does often give me a snearing side glance.

My sore throat is better thanks for asking, DH has been doing the lions share or care for the boys this weekend and the rest from constantly having to answer DS1 and be attentive to DS2 has helped. It's quite funny DH now refers to the boys as DS1 & 2.

DS1 has his jabs tomorrow i'll be so glad when there over, I've had to give loads of needles to small children and never bothered about it but having to hold him while they stick 2 needles into him will break my heart. But I guess that will be it for ages and I will feel better knowing he's got them. I'm sure he would have immunity from measles but each measles season I worry and just want him to have full coverage.

DH is off to Leamington Spa tomorrow and we follow him there on weds. I'm quite excited about going to Warwick castle.

Right off to bed.

waitinggirl · 25/05/2009 22:35

VG - can i ask a question (we're all exploiting you and your wisdom, aren't we?). in fact, can anyone else answer this?

mil is insistent that i am tired because i am bfing madam (obviously has nothing to do with being a new mum/not having had a full night's sleep in 5 months, being a bit stressed at having a little things dependent on me etc) in the sense that all the goodness is getting sucked out of me and that i am not left with enough nutrients/vitamins.

i have said that i think this is horseshite and don't believe this is why i am tired, but she just bangs on about it all the time. i suspect she is talking out of her proverbial and that it is a hangover from her not enjoying bfing herself and trying to find reasons to justify not doing it anymore (a good enough reason in my book is to say you don't want to do it anymore).

just wanted some "official" mn advice

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 25/05/2009 23:00

WG: that's a tricky one, BF def uses up more calories and it's true (I think) that if your diet is deficient the baby will happily leach any nutrients it needs from you. You may have to have a seriously bad diet for that to happen. But I think general sleeplessness and new motherhood has a far greater impact. That said, when DS1 was about a year I started losing weight v quickly which I put down to a combination of lots of bfing plus no sleep. Which isn't a helpful answer! I have got myself some bf friendly vitamins but I keep forgetting to take them. Plus I'm reading Ben Goldacre's excellent book on the scams pulled b the nutrition industry so am in two minds on taking the things.

I thin Ros did a bf course recently, she may have some info too?

LadyThompson · 25/05/2009 23:06

Blimey WG, sounds like a nightmare. Sorry for mistake, I think your earlier post from the hotel sounded more positive. As to your MiL, what about a sharpish "I have an excellent diet and besides, I also take vitamin supplements" or summat. Hope you have a decent night. Not going to type any more as fingers need a rest from DP's dictation. And still loads more to go!

Good luck for the jabs, Veggie.

Ooh, thinking about it, Indith hasn't been on for a bit either. Mm. And a few more besides. I expect everyone is knackered and lurking

Kayzr · 26/05/2009 06:55

Morning,

Verso I hope you had another good night last night.

WG That hotle sounds awful!! I'm glad you got your money back!! I think your MIL is talking out of her behind! Your diet has to be seriously rubbish for anything that serious to happen. Women in Africa mangae to BF and they have awful diets. Bloody MILs.

Where has the sun gone??? It's grey and horrible here!!

pmk1 · 26/05/2009 08:11

Morning!
Right - def can't be jet lag anymore, and he's having little solids every day, so why the waking up through the night suddenly? It's got to be the dummy.... we need to ditch it. he goes back to sleep in seconds when I shove it back in at 3am - do you think that's it then? it'll be hard as he needs it for naps (mainly)
WG - not sure, but I know I have more energy since stopping BF-ing - i'm even going to join the gym! So it does make you tired I think, but as Effie said, the energy towards looking after a baby alone is probably just as taxing....
Lady - next time you're in the big smoke, let me know - gosh you must have been up late with all that typing. I might try Sainsbury's and see if they've got all what I need. The plumber is coming today to install the dishwasher that has been sitting in the hall. DH has been itching to do it but I insisted on us sitting back and being proper tennants, instead of him doing all that kind of stuff since we're paying all this rent, and we never get any discount off it when we fix things ourselves

We're's LaL? and Turnip?

pmk1 · 26/05/2009 08:14

LOL! Look at my spelling!! We're's???? LaL?? I mean, Where's lal!!

Veggiemummy · 26/05/2009 09:12

Morning ladies. WG keep up the good work you are doing feeding your gorgeous girl, it's just your MIL with her issues again. I trained for and competed in several 10km races and 2 triathlons whilst BFing. Like Kayz says starving African women bf surprisingly healthy babies. Obviously you need to watch your diet protein is very important as well as iron and vitamins, but I think the weight of caring for a baby is what is making you tired, apart from the lack of sleep giving almost constant attention is something that wears me out. That's something that is tirng regardless of FF or BF. But obviously the biggest thing is proper sleep overnight. I managed to get some proper sleep over the weekend and it's done me the world of good. Whenever you see her just go on and on about how awake you feel. It would be nice if she could see what you are doing for the great thing it is. Well done I say. Do you know I think she secretly admires you.

Veggiemummy · 26/05/2009 09:18

Oh and drink lots of water being dehydrated can tire you too.
