Been trying to catch up.

I appear to have missed a LadyT post off to search that out. We are still in the gobi dessert here with very occasional storms.

Kayz well done you on the weight loss and the letter from PALS.

Spot very sensible posts from Trace and Verso. Hope you are feeling better soon what about alternative treatments? On the sleep side with DS1 I was a real sleep nazi he slept through at 4 months but the downside is he is rubbish about sleeping anywhere other than his bed. DS2 however is still waking mucho times at night but sleeps anywhere and everywhere but never more than 3 hours throughout the day.

Started this post at lunchtime bet there are loads more now got to dash have been at a friends chatting and spent a bit longer there than I intended and now the kitchen still has the breakfast dishes out.

Kayzr · 22/05/2009 17:21

I am a bit annoyed too Veggie. I am most upset at her saying I didn't enjoy BF. I did but I was never really given a chance to get good at it.

Probably won't be back until tomorrow evening. Got a MN meet up tomorrow with my ttc friends. Really looking forward to seeing the babies and the bumps!!

Hope you all have nice weekends.

Kayzr · 22/05/2009 17:23

Oh and Trace and Zoe and anyone else too there is a big MN meet being planned in York on the 20th July. Thread here

tillyfernackerpants · 22/05/2009 17:29

kayz have fun at your meet up.

Sorry I haven't been able to read through everything. We're off up to my parents tonight for the weekend so I've been running around cleaning the house & getting all the washing done etc.

I don't know if I'll be back on until after the weekend so big hugs to everyone.

Veggiemummy · 22/05/2009 19:07

Tilly you clean far too much stop it.

Kayz you were bloody good at it it's just that stupid women was obsessesed with the weight of a perfectly healthy baby. Clearly her assessment skills are she-ite because she was looking only at the scales and not at the baby. Did she ever ask you about his poo? And your latch...your bloody latch did she ever really assess it did she ever watch you do a full feed!!!!!???? If there was a problem with your latch it is her fault for not helping to correct it!!! Oh I am so mad about this. Don't take this the wrong way Kayz but this women, I think, has decided you are young and has her own bias about younger mums and decided that they don't like BFing. I know of a girl who had a baby at 22 and the MWs assumed she wouldn't want to BF so did nothing to help her feed and just gave her formula. It was her first and she was very shy and had no idea what to do so just went along with it, but actually she wanted to BF.

PD what that MW did to you is actually very very very bad. If you felt inclined you could complain to the PCT and to the nursing & midwifery council. I believe what she did is grounds for a charge of misconduct.

Right rant over. PMK I keep forgetting to say I had cramp pains high & low on and off for a couple of mnths before AF came they have now stopped. I am still not happy they started after 5 months I think it is because I have been eating too much tofu. Also I think I have stayed at that Marco polo, but next time I want the peninsula. Best posh hotel I have stayed at was Sheraton in Edinburgh with DHs work but best cheap & cheerful was a tie between a hut on the beach on Koh Chang for £1.20 a night or a little house thing on a Caye in Belize with baby sea turtles as neighbours, which had a self service bar and coconut cut straight from the tree the tops chopped off and a straw popped in and handed to me in a hammock.

Veggiemummy · 22/05/2009 19:21

I have just checked my fundraising page you guys rock!!!!! I have been a bit lazy and just posted on here and once on facebook so far I have raised over £100 almost completely from you guys. Thank you thank you thank you. Oh and Tilly were you going to post your page again or did I miss it again?

Veggiemummy · 22/05/2009 21:10

Does anyone know where I could get a couple of Styrofoam boxes from? I know quite random question but I am running out of room for veggies in my garden (annoyingly i need to leave some room for the kids to play) and my stepfather has told me how is he is growing spinach in styrofoam boxes.

zoejeanne · 22/05/2009 22:12

Spot how are you feeling today? I hope the cough and the tiredness are both improving. If it is bronchiolitis, then I think you should go back (again) ? one of the babies from my post-natal group was recently hospitalised and put on a drip for a couple of days with that, and I?d hate it to get to that stage with T (the baby is back to full health again now, but scary to go through). On sleeping, E is being a little monkey about day time naps and rarely managing an hour in total at the moment ? however her nights have hardly changed at all, still goes down at 8pm, still wakes at 3 ish for a feed and again at 6.30ish for the day. So I?d conclude that the day doesn?t have a bearing on the night, just affects her mood. (I too wish I could unread some books, and our HV told a friend this week she wishes all baby books should be burnt and let mothers use their own instincts)

Verso its great to have you back, and you sound much more chirpy than you did before, its lovely to read your posts. How did the interview go? And talking of returnees, welcome back to turnip too, Nanny Anne?s advice is like having a warm blanket wrapped round the basket

LadyT I love the image of your DP with the burning tissues, I think you deserve a prize for the most adventurous sex life ... another one in the gobi here, its like a MN meet up there!

Major we?ve got a doidy cup for DD and she happily drinks water from it, but turns up her nose at milk (formula or EBM) from it. I?ll keep persevering though as at least it doesn?t make her angry like the bottle does. I hope it works for your DS2

Kayz it sounds like that midwife was trying to get herself out of hot water and saying whatever came to mind. Well done for complaining, hopefully with that course no one else will get poor advice from her. And PD, I can?t believe your midwife rang to have a go ? I hope you put in another complaint after that?

NJAN I hadn?t realised that you lost your Mum so recently, so sorry to hear that, what a tough time you?re having

Veggie I want baby sea turtles as neighbours!

The good news from the ZJ house is that DD?s passport arrived this morning, we?ve booked flights and are going off to the sun on Tuesday! Yippee We?re going to the Algarve, and our friends (who are going to be DD?s godparents, so must be up for sharing the load a bit) are already there. I can?t wait, I have already packed my books, a cute cossie for DD ... er, and not much else yet. Going to bed now to dream about holidays, night all

Veggiemummy · 22/05/2009 22:56

Mmmm...Algarve...mmmmm....sun....mmmmm....Portuguese tarts.

Oh Spot I meant to say, the pertussis vaccine like any vaccine can take up to 3 months to work by the time they build up their antibodies etc.

daisydora · 23/05/2009 08:30

ZJ I love the Algarve, have a fantastic time. But beware the sea its arctic!!!!

DD has just informed me that DS is her 'new best friend' because he rolls to her

traceface · 23/05/2009 09:12

daisy that is so cute!
I'm full of yawns today - P woke every 1.5 hours again last night and the night before. She really does seem hungry and seems to have a good feed but like WG was saying she's feeding way more at night than in the day. My HV suggested weaning so I've tried a few days of giving an ice cube of veg/ fruit mush, which she seems to love - clearly makes no difference to the night but I think it is the right time for her. I'm a bit with dh at the mo, but I think it's a bit unreasonable of me really and I know I'm being tired and grumpy...he does seem to get more than his fair share of illnesses and was run down and coldy last weekend, so after a gruelling week of very little sleep I was looking forward to at least one weekend day when I cold feed P then go back to bed for a couple of hours - it didn't happen because he felt ill, so I plodded on for another week (him off work for 2 days so me doing EVERYTHING) and held out for a lie-in today. He has spent the night sneezing and feels ill again so yet again after very little sleep I've been up with the girls since 6 and he's still in bed. I know he can't help being ill but when I'm ill I just have to get on with it, whereas he can just take to his bed. I'm tired. Really hoping Phoebe sleeps longer soon...I've been saying that for 5.5 months now! Obviously as she won't take a bottle I've done every one of those feeds. With half term this week I really hope I don't have to run the place all week on my own.
There. Selfish moan over. Sorry.
My parents are popping in today on their way to see my grandma in Scarborough. SHe's got really advanced Alzheimers and has been expected to die imminently for about 3 years now. Very hard for my mum especially, but the silver lining is that whenever they go to visit her they pass York so we get to see them and they get to see their granddaughters much more than they would otherwise.
Well I ought to press on...
hope you all have good weekends - hope you get some time out Spot

just quickly writing from my hotel bed (scuzziest hotel i've been in since my gap year btw) in dorset - my aunt from new zealand is walking madam and that has left me an hour to sleep/catch up.

spot - last night we kept madam up with us until 10pm in the restaurant - dh did walk her a bit in the pram to get her to fall asleep - she slept for 40 mins. we were terrified as normally she is in bed, asleep by 7.30/8pm and we also had got ourselves into a bit of a tizzy about her bedtime routines (after the hellish first 3/4 weeks, we found a routine which actually MADE HER GO TO SLEEEEP! and so we wanted to stick with it come hell or high water). we were so nervous about how it would work - this is the first night she hasn't had a bath, the first night she hasn't been in bed at 7 etc etc etc. and you know what? she was absolutely fine. she didn't sleep through, she didn't wake up more or less, she did exactly as normal. no doubt she will scream throughout this afternoon's wedding, but i think we've learned a lesson that madam is far more flexible and adapatable than we thought. and i'm going to try to have more confidence in her from now on. hope that helps.

loving ladyt's antics!

i now have to have a shower and start to get ready...

Morning,

We had a lovely meet yesterday, even if DS1 did pull over the vase and poured water everywhere. I did feel like a terrible mummy as he ignored me and did what everyone else asked him to do!!

I did learn something interesting though. My friend from MN has a DD the same age as DS1. She dropped over a lb in weight when she was born and her MW said that it didn't matter because they only worry if they lose weight after a few weeks not at birth. I suppose they might do things differently around the country.

I got an awful headache on the bus home yesterday so might spend the day being lazy. I really need to learn to drive so I can go to the beach on days like this.

Hope you are all well.

Verso · 24/05/2009 08:00

kayzr I just skimmed back over the thread as everyone is up in arms about your MW and I am livid on your behalf . There was a young woman opposite me in hospital who had a very similar experience to you while I was there and I was torn between wanting to help and not wanting to interfere. It makes me so mad. People like that are in the wrong job.

On a different subject, look away now if your baby has (a) always slept really well or (b) had a bad night last night. I am just very happy to report that DD2 slept for SEVEN HOURS IN A ROW last night!!!! I can't believe it! Ok, so she was up at 5am, but I'm not complaining! It's her six month birthday tomorrow (shared with her online twin, LadyT) and I'm so happy that she did this a whole two months before DD1 did .

Kayzr · 24/05/2009 08:04

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Go VERSO!!! I am so pleased for you!!

pmk1 · 24/05/2009 09:32

Hello all,
Terrific news Verso, wish it was the same here.... I had the sleeping through in the initial months, but it seems to have done a 180 and I'm not sure I can blame the international travel anymore! Wonder if it's the swaddling which I have stopped? Someone else stopped the swaddling (WG?) and said the waking only last a couple of nights?? I'm hoping its taking longer due to the jetlag at the same time.... Only 315am and then 500 last night so getting better, and still no feed required - just dummy reapplication.
Nice lunch yesterday with a friend and a 2.5 mile walk with the buggy's, and a lovely BBQ last night in the nice weather!
Sorry I didn't get to meet you for a spot LadyT, due to my dishwasher delivery still sitting in the box in my hallway. I trust you got some more work done!
Veggie, interesting regarding pains you had.... mine have strangely gone away now, but I have a strange feeling they will come again in another month accompanied by Aunt Flo! I hope so at least.... As much as they are a pita, it means I can ttc again later in the year I spose!
Anhyway, B and I have had breakfast in bed. weather looks really nice, so I will go for a long walk and then thinking of taking a tour of my gym since I never get on the bloody x trainer at home. I think I need a variety and it's ok every few days, but then I get bored and I'm thinking some classes might inspire me... It also looks like they do baby swimming on a Sat morning!
Have good Sundays

Kayzr · 24/05/2009 11:29

I forgot to tell you I rang the HV on Friday and I have to write down all the milk DS2 drinks in a 24 hour period. So we are doing it today and he has only had 7oz. He doesn't seem to be hungry though and he sleeps through every night.

He is now eating some toast so I am hoping HV will say it's all ok.

Veggiemummy · 24/05/2009 19:01

Evening all what a beautiful day. Unfortunately I woke feeling crap with sore throat and headache. Have been feeling a bit ordinary for a day or two so think I might have a light lurgy. Unfortunately I was supposed to meet up with Pingu today which I was looking forward to but I was needing a lie down and also a bit scared I might pass something on. DH was lovely a took the boys most of the day so I got some good rest. I even had a little energy to do some gardening so now have perpetual spinach seeds in and 3 tomato plants plus 2 aubergine plants. All I left to plant is some more carrots and bac choi. Hooray.

WG glad you had a nice evening out. I remember that moment with DS1 when I realized he would explode if I did something different. How was the wedding? I bet you've had some brilliant weather.

Verso hooray hooray hooray, and more of it. I'm so pleased you are finally getting some sleep girl. Your back at work soon aren't you.

Kayz glad you enjoyed your meet up and I'm sure it was an ugly vase and ds1 was doing the world a favour by breaking it. Did you see the score today. Oh and wanted to ask is ds2 very active, because my ds2 has dropped to below the 50th centile the HVs don't seem that bothered and he is very active, wriggles all the time, like my DS1, who also dropped to 50th around this age.

PMK have you heard more flooding and trouble back home. Makes me wonder if I really want to go back???

sybilfaulty · 24/05/2009 20:22

Hello everyone

I'm afraid I've been offline for a couple of days due to broken broadband. We have the pox again here (DD2 and lovely wee M) so all a bit miserable. Well, I'm not, but am under house arrest and going slightly mad(der). Will try to read what I have missed.

Hope you are all well. LOve to everyone.

pmk1 · 24/05/2009 21:14

Hi Sybil... long time!
Veggie - Sorry you are feeling ill - i thought pingu lived down this way?? pingu did you move? I know what you mean with the flooding - I briefly read about it, but talked to mum today and now that I think of it she didn't even mention it so I suppose they aren't affected, however the rain up north was awful while we were there.
I was just talking to a friend yesterday who is moving home, and I said when the weather over here is like it was this weekend, it really makes it easier to live here! I said I'd be half worried myself that if I went home I'd possibly be the type who would run the risk of thinking I was going to slot back in to how it was with my friends etc 10 years ago, but then realise they have all kind of moved on and not quite sure if i'd fit in, but then again, I'd probably want to live near my brother and he didn't have the kids etc last time so it would be much better... "I do tend to get that grass is greener syndrome though" I probably spend a lot of time convincing myself that I'd get itchy feet, only because I know I can't go back at the moment, if you know what i mean - so i kind of find it easy to talk myself out of wanting to go back - except for immediately after returning from a holiday home. I'm probably not making sense but I know what I mean! I'm sure you and your little one's will love living back there. You probably don't have the occupational hazards / finances we are worried about back there.... i'm excited for you especially now that you are planning schools etc....
Uurgh, well dh has finally agreed to get his
septal deviations/turbinate hypertrophy fixed! yay i might get some sleep now - and some more conversation out of him! (Apparently it being an effort to breathe is half the battle with getting him to focus on a conversation!!)
Turnip are you around?? I was wondering if it was you who was going to try Virgin Active and the creche there? I'm thinking of going to my local one since they have all the classes plus a baby swimming class once a week all included so much much cheaper, but I was wondering about the creche....
Anyway, this has been an epic...

Veggiemummy · 24/05/2009 22:02

I think it's mostly central to northern NSW coast around Coffs Harbour, and a little bit of storm damage in Brissie again. I know what you mean PMK I know I am going to miss the UK and my friends loads and we have a great lifestyle here with DH being at home with us so much it will be quite different back home but we have good friends back there many of whom we know from when they were here so will help the transition. Both of us are lucky in that both our jobs are transferable and quite sort after esp with the experience we have both gotten over here. But DH could be working long hours which won't be much fun.

Veggiemummy · 24/05/2009 22:23

Oh and Pingu is in Derby visiting her family I wish we could have caught up but I'm glad I had a rest today I'm feeling almost human again.

Kayzr · 25/05/2009 07:27

Morning,

The weather here is amazing and I have been very silly and put my maternity crop trousers on as it is already too hot for trousers!!

Veggie DS2 is very active, he is constantly wriggling and kicking his legs around. He has dropped to the 50th centile and he started on the 99th. He is sleeping through and part of me thinks that if he wasn't getting enough food then he would wake overnight.

Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine. We fancy a trip to the beach but an hour on the bus isn't much fun in this weather.

EffiePerine · 25/05/2009 07:57

Having a lovely weekend here, hope you all are too. Off to the hospital radio family fun day later

Can I just say that DS2 slept from 7:30 - 10:30 last night in his cot! Woke again at 1 and into our bed but hey, it's an improvement.

R4 is confusing me - talking about geography in Afghanistan favouring gorillas - realised they meant guerillas...

sybilfaulty · 25/05/2009 08:35

Still haven't read alas. Have been up most of the night either BF DS (pox quite mildly) or soothing DD2 (pox very badly and really miserable)

Veggie - can I ask a couple of quick Qs? What else can I do for DD apart from piriton, calpol, brufen etc? I'm abpout to do an oat and bicarb bath but is there anything homeopathic? Would she benefit from some EBM? I have plenty, and presumably I am making antibody rich milk because of M? He is nowhere near as bad as her. Lucy got off SO lightly. And can you post the link to your run again please?

Sorry for not really participating here but a bit desperate. Hope you all have a great bank hol.
