MS, I know, I was just feeling fragile and seeking reassurance

How scary about F, thank god he is ok and hopefully your DD has had a fright and will be a little more gentle with him.

Think I might think about ebay, I've not sold on it before (as if you will recall, I'm totally IT retarded) I will have to get DS to sort it out whilst we are back in the UK.

Just been out to the park and DD had a good play with her friends and had a good old chat with the mums which was nice and cheered me up. It seems they are also appalled with 'the cows' recent behaviour so we are organising our own night out for drinks and meals and needless to say, will not be inviting her. I've now heard comments from at least 5 people about her behaviour and think she will get her comeupance very soon.

right, off to bath kids then have to endure Fast and Furious 4 which I foolishly bought DH today and which of course he MUST watch tonight x

lardybump · 10/05/2009 16:42

afternoon all. DS is a bit better today he has been sick a lot but much happier.

MS DD always pushes the swinging chair when DS is in it I will have to make sure i strap him in every time. Glad your bubby is ok poor dd she must feel really bad....

Ladies i need some advice. Where DS is being so sick all the time his skin has gone really spotty and some of it is really nasty (looks yellow and really sore). The cream I have been using is not doing anything so was wondering if you have any idea of good creams for babies skin. It isn't dry at all if anything it looks greasy but not obviously so.... Does that make sence.

Lovely sunny day here we went out for breakfast this morning and then went for a nice walk this afternoon...

dinkystinky · 10/05/2009 17:05

Afternoon all. DS1 did another nocturnal poo last night I had to deal with as I went up to bed then Danny decided to wake up 3 times in the night (normally a one time only boy) so tired today but hey at least the sun is shining...

STW - Danny has his fourth cold at the moment and its the worst so far - lots of coughing and spluttering. I've invested in a calpol vapouriser for nights as he's over 3 months (karvol didnt seem to be helping with the breathing - think this is helping a little more.

Pink - sorry to hear about your kitten Hope the kids arent too upset.

MS - re Frank's tumble. Hope he's ok - am sure he's forgotten all about it already.

MoS - sounds like a good revenge shall be had on the snob soon!

Lardy - sorry to hear DS's skin is suffering - poor baby is really in the wars. We've used oilatum junior in the bath on DS1's eczema and its helped that alot but that's dry skin more than anything else. At the last meet up, STW was talking about a cream she used on DD's eczema and her DS's cradlecap which sounded excellent - cant remember the name though, sorry...

Just heard today that the other family that are meant to be coming to France with us will probably need to pull out of the holiday due to the husband's work - anyone know of anyone with a week's holiday to take from the coming Friday who'd like to go to Normandy????

Dinky ummmmm I'm free DP can stay at home with the kids and I will come!!! He he he

PolkSaladLucie · 10/05/2009 18:36

Hi all - just a quick note to mark my place, I will trawl back and read the posts properly and do personals later!

It's such a nice day here - took M to church this morning to be coo'd at by all the old dears, and then have pottered around tidying/sorting and eating lots of nice things. John went to his brother's last night for a sleepover! so he is on duty today and tonight!

I'm off to a mummy's lunch tomorow, so I'm making lots of yummy stuff - thai glass noodle salad, bulgar wheet salad, tapenade, chicken pate and asian duck quiche. It's all I can do to keep John away from eat - even M wants some!

SweetTalkinWoman · 10/05/2009 19:57

Yum yum PSL - wow, all I managed to serve today were shop bought cakes and crisps !

Dinky thanks - I've been trying Olbas Oil drops, but have never tried Karvol and didn't know about the Calpol vaporiser - sounds good. Sam is 11 weeks now, so not 3 months so not sure if I should try yet. He's only slept for about 2 hours in total today so is shattered but just can't let go tonight. I'm up and downstairs constantly. Still, the exercise is doing me good. All the cake I've "deserved" recently is really piling on.

Lardy pleased to head DS is a little better but sorry he's still being sick - poor little mite. We've had problems with Sam's skin and scalp almost since birth and have tried various lotions and potions!! As Dinky says, Oilatum Junior in the bath is good (makes them a little slippery though!), then the best cream we founmd is Aveeno, but this is £6 a small tube so best if you can get on prescription. It's a natural oatmeal based cream and is lovely. After Sam's recent skin infection we have been using a combination of Emulsifying Ointment (cheap and cheerful over the counter) and Fucidin acid on prescription. Sam's skin was also very greasy I hate to say it but he smelt awful - like a damp dog!! For the cradle cap I have discovered a special shampoo from Dentinox which has cleared it all in 3 days!! I got it from Mothercare.

Sorry I went on a bit there. MOS don't envy you having to sit through Fast and Furious - I had to the other night but bought the laptop into the living room and caught up on my emails!!! Haven'y got a clue what happened in the film!

Off to fold a mountain of laundry now which I'm not looking forward to... Hope you are all having slightly more exciting evenings!

mslucy · 10/05/2009 20:08

lardy
Stan looked liked a pepperoni pizza a couple of weeks ago - hardcore baby acne.
Got some wonderful stuff called hydromol - health visitor gave me a prescription for it but you could prob get it over the counter.
Is a bit like oilatum and worked like magic.

for bad chests have you tried snufflebabe?
I used it on DH once as well and he said it was great

elkiedee · 10/05/2009 20:23

STW thanks for the tip re cradle cap

Dinky, hope you find someone for the Normandy trip. We used to visit Normandy a lot when I was a little bit older than your DCs, family friends had a house a few miles from Dieppe.

Conor is teething and has cried a lot this evening, I've probably been spoilt but I'm not used to inconsolable crying and had no idea what to do. I finally persuaded him to feed a little and he's now awake but quite calm and happily chatting in his basket. His big brother was really concerned about him, dp was trying to reassure him that he wanted mummy's milk and I just wanted to cry myself because it seemed like he didn't. I suppose we'll end up stuffing Calpol down him but we need to sort out a bit of sterilising first. You'd think with such a small age gap I'd at least remember what we did with DS1, wouldn't you?

lardybump · 10/05/2009 20:35

Thanks STW and mslucy, I will see GP then and get something on prescription!!

Elkiedee dont use Bonjella I read an article recently that said that it contains something that is not good for children... Cant remember the finer details sorry. We used it for DD but will not use it now. I think Calpol do one that is solely designed for children and there is a powder as well that is herbal and that you can rub on the gums... Hope you get a good nights sleep!!!

dinkystinky · 10/05/2009 20:36

Hmm, PSL - that food sounds lovely. No wonder John and M are both keen on trying it out!! What goes into an asian duck quiche - sounds intriguing...

Elkie - sorry to hear that Connor is starting to teeth. As a veteran mother of a long term teether (DS1 started teething at 3 months, got first tooth at 13 months! and finally got his last molars a couple of months ago - he teeths at a glacial rate) my top recommendations are (i) camomile (drink the tea by the bucketload and he'll get it in your breastmilk - calms them down a treat) (ii) chamomila oil for massage or teething powders you pop on their tongue(there is Nelsons Teethas which is good - also Ashtons & Parsons but that has sugar added to it so not ideal once they've got teet) - again calms them down, (iii)rubbing your finger along their gums or letting them chew on your knuckles - seems to relieve the itching, (iv) teething gel (calgel) on their gums a minute or so before you feed them - stops them chomping down on your boobs to relieve the itching/pain - if is really bad, try the bonjela teething gel which is pretty hardcore and (v) if all else fails, calpol (or Medised if they're old enough to have it - though think they've now made it for over 6s only...). And for you I prescribe lots and lots of chocolate. Hope he comes out of this bout soon.

Lardy - you'd be most welcome

That should read "got teeth" not got teet!

littleboyblue · 10/05/2009 20:43

MS Glad ds is ok. I've just started strapping Luke in because ds1 was trying to rock the seat.
STW I can actually watch Mr Maker, I quite enjoy it, but not Nuzzle and Scratch!! That's worse than Granny Murray!
Ds1 is also loving Timmy Time and I can't get the theme tune out of my head. Me and a friend started singing it at play group on friday, which would have been fine, but it was story time, so not only was it dead quiet and everyone looked at us like we were crazy, but we also got told off for setting a bad example to the children
And there really is no need to be envious of our lazy day. By 3pm, I was going insane!! I'm never spending the whole day in ever again!
RE the cold, Luke still has his, but no cough. I wouldn't worry about how often you are at the docs, you go there only because you think there is something wrong, and I'm sure they wouldn't prescribe AB's to such a young baby without it being absolutely necessary(sp?)
lardy Pleased ds is getting better. Is his skin infected? Maybe you could get something from the doctors for it? You won't have to pay for it then either, which is always a bonus! A friend of mine has a 2.6 year old, and has never bought a bottle of calpol. She goes to the docs everytime she needs some and tells them dd is teething or something.

All this talk of Fast and Furious, dp loves those films. He is convinced he looks like Vin Disel It doesn't help when he says it in public and people say "oh yeah, I knew you reminded me of someone" He does not look like Vin Disel, dp has a slap head like VD and a similar build, just not quite as muscular. When the mw came to our house after ds1 was born, she asked him if he'd ever been on the telly, and when he said no, she said he looked really familiar. I had to tell her to stop hitting on my newborn baby's daddy!

We had a lovely day today. We met a friend, his wife and their dd and ds at the fair and it was lovely. Ds1 wouldn't go on any of the rides, we tried but he just screamed. Only things like the tea cups and the little people rides, he's been on them all before. We only took the single pushchair which was a bit silly so I ended up getting the carrier out of the car after an hour and strapping Luke to me, my back is aching now! We all then drove to the local(ish) Hungry Horse pub to have a little drink and let the dc's play on the climbing frames. The dc's had a great time there. We then decided we'd all get dinner there, so went inside, got the smaller dc's in highchairs, placed an order only to be told there was a 40minute wait!! Ended up all just going home in the end, no way we could have waited that long.
The really good thing, is that both boys have fallen asleep the minute their heads were down, so now waiting for dinner to cook and will settle down to catch up with Desperate Housewives and not do the ironing. Again.

littleboyblue · 10/05/2009 20:50

The bonjela that is for children is ok, but not the ulcer stuff or regular bonjela, just the childrens one.
Can understand people not wanting to risk it though.
FWIW, we always found dentinox teething gel worked alot better than anything else, and it can be used from birth. Ds1 started teething at 10 weeks, so we started using it then.
dinky Nightmare isn't it? Although ds1 started teething at 10 weeks, he didn't actually get a tooth until he was 10 months and then it was 2. Typical. And we've had a non-stop constant breaking through.

PolkSaladLucie · 10/05/2009 20:57

Dinky - it's spring onions, peppers, mange tout (or other random veg) and duck with chili, ginger and lemon grass mixed into the liquid ingrediants. It's YUM!

elkie - Dentinox do a teething gel that is suitable from birth - we discovered that after dispatching John to get some Bonjella at 11:30pm as she was screeming blue murder!

For cradle cap, we use the Peter Rabbit bathtime range - it has a lovely shampoo, a body wash, a body lotion and a great massage oil that works brilliantly on cradle cap. Although, M only had some in her eyebrows, so it might be less effective over a larger area!!!!

Yay for your DH MS - it's nice to know when your bosses have faith in you. But the more money/more stress equation is a bummer.

I've taken a leaf out of your book on the buggy front and persauded John that if we have to keep the Graco we should get the XLR as well in a few months, to keep one in the car and one in the house (as the graco is so heavy). The graco's black so I shall get the new chocolate brown/marsh green XLR to cover most bases!!!!

dinkystinky · 10/05/2009 20:58

Yup LBB - glacial teething v wearing, especially as DS1 would come down with a cold every time he went through a teething bout.

Sounds like you've had a lovely day today. Hope all the fresh air and fun means the boys sleep lots so you have a good night.

littleboyblue · 10/05/2009 21:01

Ds1 has been snotty for nearly 2 years! A friend of mine he other day said she'd wiped his nose while I was in the bathroom, and then she said that all the times she's seen him, he has always been covered in snot!

Must dash. DH is starting

lardybump · 10/05/2009 21:03

Wow PSL i have just seen your menu for tomorrow and have one thing to say... Can I come It all sounds lovely..

lardybump · 10/05/2009 21:05

STW DS has a cough at the moment and has had a cold since he was born... At GP last week I got them to check his chest and it was clear but they did say that they would sooner you went to get it checked if they have a cough in babies as they can get really bad really quickly if it is on their chest!!

SweetTalkinWoman · 10/05/2009 21:13

LBB LOL at DH and Vin Diesel!! My DH gets told he looks a bit like David Tennant - after a glass of wine I can just about see the resemblance. I've been told I look a bit like Joanna Lumley - I can tell you I feel as old as her at the moment .

SweetTalkinWoman · 10/05/2009 21:14

Thanks Lardy - i think i will see how tonight goes but will call the doc if in doubt tomorrow.

MarkStretch · 10/05/2009 22:04

I am wondering if F is teething you know... He is doing a lot of dribbling and fist sucking even after a big feed and it sometimes seems like latching on is a bit painful for him.

He has learned to blow raspberries and now does it everytime he is annoyed. I love it, I think it's really cute.

Did lots of sorting out today and we had a BBQ tonight although DH did the man thing of poking the coals for ages and burning paper for no reason. Then he did the unmanly thing of having a shower and slathering himself in my Holiday Skin

mslucy · 10/05/2009 22:29

Stan is fist sucking, dribbling and ear pulling - another dead give away that the fangs are on their way.

DS1 used to get very cross indeed when teething - he has very pointy teeth and I think they really hurt.

We used to doe him with calpol - then liquid nurofen 2 hours later, then the calpol 2 hours later.

It helped when the pain got really bad and is perfectly safe.

Been having gorgeous smiles all weekend - he is real delight.

PinkTulips · 10/05/2009 23:41

another glacial teether here with dd, she got the 2 canines peeping through at 3 months, they disappeared, she teethed constantly for months on end and then got 8 in 2 days the week of her first birthday

ds1 was slightly more normal but aaron looks to be following dd's footsteps... he drooled on the baby 6 days younger than him at toddler group the other day at least he doesn't get too cranky with it.

MS, aaron headbutts whoever is holding him if he's cross.... like a teeny tiny dribbly litte bull

littleboyblue · 11/05/2009 01:41

STW I tell myself I'm a good mix of Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta Jones! haha, I wish.
MS lol @ dh finding the masculine/femanine balance in himself

We don't have any signs of teething here yet, thank God! Luke sucks his fists and his fingers alot, but I think that's just because he's going to be a thumb sucker. I can't wait for him to find it properly, he's rubbish with the dummy, but needs that comfort. V annoying!
Luke also headbutts. It hurts. He headbutted ds1 earlier, ds1 thought it was just the funniest thing!

Feeding. Luke is feeding 5/6oz every 3-3.5 hours. That's alot isn't it? Might keep a more regular check on his weight.

My ds1 is just the greatest. Earlier this evening, me and him were playing on the sofa, dp thinks ds1 is suitably entertained to risks getting a big bag of hocolate buttons out the fridge. Ds1, like a dog, hears the packet and is straight over there, so dp gives him a few. Ds1 puts one in his mouth and runs over to me and puts the other one in my mouth! Then goes back to dp. The same thing again. One for him, one for his mummy. He is such a good boy

SweetTalkinWoman · 11/05/2009 06:23

That's really sweet of DS1 LBB! DD has started holding out bits of food saying "mummy some" over and over again until I give in, because it's usually a cold bit of brocolli or comething unappetising! Chocolate buttons would be perfect, but I've got a feeling she wouldn't want to share those....

Another potential teether here. Sam's drooling loads and sucking his fist and sort of sucks his bottom lip in. I swore by nurofen for DD - the ibuprofen helps take down the inflammation in the gums apparently.

A bit of a night here - Sam was not problem - it was DD's turn to get me up a few times. She's got a stinking cold and I think was really fed up with it. Then i had to play hunt the Blue Man (Igglepiggle) in the dark because she'd thrown him out of her cot. Finally settled her at midnight, then thought I might as well give Sam a dream feed while I was up. Both of them have decided to start the day at 5am though . It's a long old day when it starts this early....
