spottyshoes · 28/05/2009 08:08

Sam has his jabs this morning and dh has just left for his operation. he wanted to walk instead of me driving him as i think he's a bit nervous. not the best of days to come in the spotty household

Morning all, PT hope your lo is on the mend, MOS hope you are ok today - sorry you had a rough night as well. Spotty hope that all goes well for your hubby today.

Milo has a weepy right eye for nearly a month now, he wakes up with it closed and i have to bathe it open, i was thinking that it was conjunctivitus like he had when he was a week old and the doc gave me some cloramphenicol eye drops but they havent worked. I did go back but she just told me to massage his eye duct (he hates it and screams )and gave me some cloramphenicol eye 'ointment' this time. Am a bit annoyed as if the eye drops havent worked then surely the eye ointment wont either but my poor lo's eye isnt getting better. Im going to take him back in a couple of days i think as this has been going on too long, my doctor is a bit crap anyway and im bloody glad she didnt look after me in my pregnancy.

Is anyone else's lo squealing? Lol its like he has suddenly found out he can do it and he does it all the time especially when he is excited its cute, but loud!

.

mumoverseas · 28/05/2009 09:19

spotty, so sorry I missed about your DH having an op. Hope everything goes ok x

going to mass in a couple of hours and have been asked to write a few words about mum for the priest who is going to mention her. I thought it would be easy but it isn't.

rosie, Harrison is squealing like a stuffed pig a lot of the time and giggling which is so cute. I discovered yesterday he has dimples

PinkTulips · 28/05/2009 09:54

rosie, are yoi still bf-ing?

if so squirt some bm into his eye a few times sa day, clears it right up. ds1 and aaron are both prone to gunky eyes, aaron has had one for about 2 weeks now but it clears up everytime i remember to put milk in it (silly mommy forgets to keep doing it though and it gunks up a day later )

ds1 got conjunctivitis so badly once when he was 6 months that no amount of salt water and bm were clearing it, only time he's had abs in his life. was very funny in the chemists picking them up, i had him in the sling and the women who worked there couldn't see his face at first and came over to say hi... went a bit like this; 'ohhh, look at him, hasn't he gotton big?! come here and let us have a look at him. hello little man [ds1 turns his head out to display crusted over eyes] o good god!'

spotty, good luck to your dh, hope all goes smoothly for him.

gotta go now, internet man is here (finally) so hopefully when i come back on i'l, have a decent connection

elkiedee · 28/05/2009 10:26

Eeek MsLucy, ds1 is only just 2, you mean his tantrums might be worse at 4...

herbgarden, grim news for the lawyers here, and their support staff. I'm a legal secretary myself, currently in local government, and had always hoped that I'd be able to get work more easily in private practice. It's particularly worrying as although I have worked in other areas of law my main experience is in property and all types of firms and areas of law seem to be decimating their staff.

rosieposey · 28/05/2009 10:30

MOS good luck with your compostion, just write what you feel and it will sound perfect im sure. Im loving those excitable squeals i totally forgot about how completely gorgeous babies are at this stage, all chubby, chunky and squealy

PT thanks for the advice, i was bf'ing when Milo got conjunctivitus the first time but im not now Glad to hear that he's not the only one though as he's had this for a month and the drops/ointment arent shifting it at all. I did LOL at your story in the chemist though - its such a shame isnt it? - gorgeous babies but the crusty eyes detracts from the gorgeousness for other people! Any tips on cradle cap whilst were at it? No hair and a flaky scalp ... he's sounding gorgeous at the moment isnt he lol? Have tried olive oil but it doesnt seem to be doing much - i cant remember when it goes either? All my girls had it i think but they did have hair so was less noticeable.

On the good side Milo's hernia has nearly gone, it got absolutely huge then in literally a few days two weeks ago it just started to shrink and now it just looks like an outie

PinkTulips · 28/05/2009 10:41

ds1 got horrific cradle cap and dd got a bit of it.

i slathered their heads in olive oil and left it on overnight, then put a bit more on it the morning and massaged it gently and obsessively rubbed off every last bit of scaliness once it was loosened enough by the oil.

disgusting really but great fun for a scab picker like me and i only had to do it a couple of times each and it cleared up completely and never returned. (unfortunately it took the remainder of ds1's hair with it though )

rosieposey · 28/05/2009 10:45

Lol - yeah thats what i thought about Milo's bonce - hardly any hair and what there is of it will come away if i pick at it, the oil at least makes it less flaky looking though. He gets really moody (typical man) if i mess with his head/scalp and doesnt really seem to appreciate the sentiment I guess it will go by itself eventually!

littleboyblue · 28/05/2009 10:57

I did the olive oil thing with ds1's head, but only the once, I found it to be a bit brutal scrapping it off with a baby comb! I did however find that dentinox cradle cap shampoo worked wonders. I'm now using it for Luke, it takes a while but I'm happier with it. Luckily, my boys have both had so much hair that you can't really see it anyway and I don't think it bothered them........
I'm going to share TMI!......I am typing this on the toilet I am very blocked at the moment and always feel like there's more iykwim, think I might have to start taking the senacot and ading a bit of fibresure to meals.

rosieposey · 28/05/2009 11:07

LBB will get some of that dentinox shampoo today and try it out. He only gets his hair washed around times a week though as i bathe him every second day and top and tail him on the others.

Try drinking a sachet of fibogel each day - i get chronic ibs and it works wonders for me.

mslucy · 28/05/2009 11:22

Thomasland is in Tamworth (Staffs)
2 hours on train from Euston if you live in London and are non drivers like us and easily accessible by road from most places.
It is heaven on earth for small boys.
DS1 is in rude health - the vomit was a combo of emotion and motion sickness.
I fear we will be returning there in the not to distant future - DS1 thinks we should go there for my birthday in Aug.
Rock and roll!

spottyshoes · 28/05/2009 11:51

Thanks everyone. Dont worry I haven't mentioned it before MOS as we are a bit worried what they will find so have been blocking it out.

I definately second dentinox shampoo. Used olive oil for 3 weeks solid with no effect and used the shampoo for 2 days and it cleared.

littleboyblue · 28/05/2009 11:52

I only washed and wash ds1's hair once a week. Luke is bathed twice a week (weds and suns) at mo and has his hair washed both times because it is sooooo greasy!!

The reason I asked mslucy is because my in-laws live in Hinckley, Warwickshire and said there was some sort of Thomas day coming up there, SMIL showed me some pics from when she took her nephew last year.

Thanks rosie for advice on fibogel, will look out for some. My dad has IBS, is it genetic? I've always had a little bother with that kind of thing, maybe should speak to gp

dinkystinky · 28/05/2009 12:07

Morning all. Rubbish night's sleep in the dinky household too after Danny's jabs yesterday - the little monkey figured out to break out of his swaddle at 3.30 and refused to sleep thereafter. Wouldnt be so bad but we decided to do an evening trip to Ikea last night when both boys were in bed and didnt get to bed till v late - ho hum.

MoS - enjoy the mass and good luck with writing your words about your mum. I know what you mean about finding it hard to find the words - DH really struggled to write the commemoration for his dad when he died when DS1 was really little - not because he didnt have anything to say but because there was so much he wanted to say and didnt know where to start. My advice would be to keep it simple and from the heart - cant go wrong that way.

Rosie - great news about Milo's hernia disappearing but sorry to hear about his eye. My friend's DS2 had the same thing - it kept coming and going but didnt really clear up until he was around 6 months and his immune system suddenly kicked up a gear and actually didnt seem to bother him at all when he had it. Hope the ointment helps Milo kick it into touch though.

Spotty - hope your DH's op goes ok. And that the colds make your boys sleep more so you get a rest! Same for everyone else whose little ones have colds...

PSL - a £75,000 chandelier!! That must have been a joke! I know someone who put a £10,000 tv on their wedding list in the hope that someone doing a panicked last minute purchase would buy it for them - thought that was cheeky but the chandelier wins hands down...

MsLucy - DS1 would be in seventh heaven in Thomasland and I rather suspect that his reaction at being extracted would be the same as your DS1's. Hope you had a change of clothes for both boys for the journey home - though if not at least I guess it was a way of guaranteeing some space for your group on the train...

rosieposey · 28/05/2009 12:09

Not sure if its genetic, mine started when i was married to my abusive ex husband and my stomach is now directly linked to my stress levels - its never gone away since but i did notice that it got alot better when i was pregnant i also stopped having night terrors and found i slept alot better too.

Its definately worth going to see your doctor about it LBB if you are suffering badly, i was so poorly with mine that i ended up having surgery on (sorry TMI alert) my bum as i was always either constipated or the other way and ended up with two very severe fissures, no joke i can tell you and the pain was almost worse than childbirth. Fibogel are great for keeping you regular especially if you (like me) arent good at keeping lots of fibre in your diet, im making a conscious effort to eat more fruit and veg at the mo and im also trying to loose weight through healthy eating as have decided that if i do go for number 5 in a year or so i dont want to be massively overweight, have diabetes and be old lol!

rosieposey · 28/05/2009 12:12

Dinky how on earth do you still swaddle Danny? I keep trying but Milo's out of it in three minutes flat and i miss him being all sausage roll-like plus he wakes up alot more easily, any tips?

dinkystinky · 28/05/2009 12:25

P.s. Rosie - I'm an olive oil and pick it off person when it comes to cradle cap; but then like Pink I find ridiculous satisfaction in doing that and seeing the finished product. Fortunately Danny is pretty patient about it - particularly if I distract him with a boob.

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 28/05/2009 12:31

I have an enormous muslin Rosie - 1m square (just picked up the material in materials store and hemmed the edges) - which I fold in half, lie Danny in the middle of the triangle, fold one side down around his arm and tuck under opposite side then repeat on other side - he's been v compliant with it up till last night (as he recognises it as a sleep cue and he's just too active otherwise to drop off to sleep) and as the muslin wraps round his body a couple of times his body weight normally keeps it on through the night. I suspect he has now discovered a cunning wriggle and roll combo to dislodge the muslin and get his hands (his new favourite toy and chew-toy in particular) out to have a good old gnaw on - I knew immediately what had happened when I woke at 3.30 to hear a "slurp slurp gaa gaa gaa" noise in the bedroom.

PolkSaladLucie · 28/05/2009 13:30

Dinky - they also had all the furniture for their new house (which was the wedding present from dad and step-mum of groom) on the list. All of it went - by the time we looked the only things left were set of 8 silver teaspoons for £65 and a tv stand for £800. John was going to buy them the spoons, but TKMaxx provided them with two very nice leather photo frames for £3.99 each (which they love and have on their bedside tables) and I made John buy me a new pair of shoes with the remainding £57!!!
The wedding was amazing - at Westminster Abbey, reception at The Ritz, four changes of outfits for the bride and groom. I met Jimmy Choo there!!!!!

PolkSaladLucie · 28/05/2009 13:31

Spotty best of luck with the op... will be thinking of you and your hubby.

rosieposey · 28/05/2009 13:48

Im going to get one of those! Milo's been chewing his hands for ages and i keep thinking that his teeth are coming through but no sign as yet.

PSL that sounds like an amazing wedding to go to, its nice that even if you went to a swanky do like that that you could improvise on pressies

PolkSaladLucie · 28/05/2009 14:07

rosie - I'm not spending 65 quid on a set of spoons!!!

I love it when M chews her fists! It's such a sweet noise! Maybe not at 3:30 in the morning!!!!

rosieposey · 28/05/2009 14:12

Lol we got loads of bottles of Champagne for our wedding in Nov but have to say now im not bf'ing they are dissapearing at a rate of knots - gorgeous with strawberries, yummy.

mumoverseas · 28/05/2009 15:08

summer meet up at rosies?

I have to share with your our afternoon at mass. I will set the scene, I'm sitting there very sad and tearful with Harrison on my lap shortly after the priest sad that mass was being said for my mother. Everyone is praying silently and suddenly Harrison lifts his leg, does an enormous fart followed by an even louder burp and then projectile vomits his milk he'd had shortly before all over my lovely black dress. Tears of saddness turned into smothered giggles then tears of laughter and I know my mum would have been looking down and laughing as it would have reminded her of a time when DS1 was around 4 months old and had just had a particularly disgusting baby spag bol from a jar. My dad then picked him up and started throwing him up and down in the air above his head. My mother and I had shouted a warning but too late and DS1 boffed all over my dad's upturned face. Spag bol was everywhere, running down his beard
