LBB is he draining the bottle? With my DS he would drain the bottle fall asleep and then wake up 15 mins later and have another ounce or so....but then he would go a bit longer between feeds. You could try offering a bit more shortly after the main feed and see if that does it..... I'm not sure about the hungry baby formulas - never tried them.

MOS baa baa bastards - love it!

MS - that would be my dream job too!

oh dear, gotta go - DD is trying to poo - major straining taking place - I fear for an almighty explosion.....it's been a while.....

PinkTulips · 13/05/2009 10:28

morning all.

stayed up far too late last night chatting to dp and his mate, it was 2am when i got to bed and i'm shattered now

MS,,, the cake baking sounds great, i'd love to earn money doing something i enjoy, sadly you can't make much money from being a crazy cat lady or being obsessed with growing things

lardybump · 13/05/2009 11:03

Morning ladies.

Owen went through again. Put him down at 8 and he woke up at 6.. There was blood in his nappy again so have to send off a sample of his wee if I can catch it.

Got owen weighted last night and he has put on 2 oz in two weeks so that is a grand total of 6 oz in a month...... He has also dropped another 1/2 centile.... Have chased dr today who will chase hospital...

We are potty training today we have had 3 successful wee's while she was wearing nothing on bottom but when I put trousers on she forgets she has no nappy on and just weed... still first day today so not too bad..

littleboyblue · 13/05/2009 12:08

lardy Hope the wee tests come back ok. Can you try maybe putting some cotton wool balls in his nappy and then squeezing them over the vile?

calico He's not always draining the bottle, because I can't seem to get him to take anymore after he's winded, but he mostly finishes the lot. Most nights, he is fed about half 5 and takes 6 oz, and then I top him up at bedtime which is at 6:30, and he can then take another 4oz!!!!!! Fatty.
I'm trying to stretch him out a bit now. It's been 3.5 hours and he is ratty, but just put him under his activity bar, so hopefully that'll keep him happy for 5/10 mins........

He has been sucking his thumb properly today

mumoverseas · 13/05/2009 12:54

afternoon all,
MS, that sounds fab, getting paid for baking. Definitely will have the next meet up at your house for afternoon tea with posh cucumber sandwiches too
hope the ABs kick in soon

lardy, hope all ok with Owen.
I've been potty training seriously the last few days and yesterday she was fab at school, no accidents and today she was dry until 5 mins before I picked her up when she had a little accident
different story at home. Yesterday she insisted on keeping her knickers on during nap time (sometimes up to 2 hours in the afternoon) and was dry when she woke up but then arsed around and wouldn't go straight to the toilet like I told her and ended up tiddling on the floor. Then she did it again later and then did a poo in her pants

update on the cow. A few more people have commented over the past few days about her being distant/snotty all of a sudden and I've just carried on ignoring her unless she says hello in which case I won't be rude and will say hello back. well just now, trying to get G & H to sleep for a little nap and the phone rings and it is her! She said she felt as if she MIGHT have done something to upset me recently as she'd noticed I wasn't talking to her and wondered what it was. For a split second I thought about saying no, nothing wrong then thought F* it and let her have it with both barrels! Told her how I felt being excluded etc etc etc and said that a few people had commented recently about her being offish with them. Won't bore you with all the details but she did admit that she felt embarrassed at the coffee shop when she saw me and realised she had 'forgotten' to invite me. I simply said it wouldn't have been hard to ask me to join them rather than turning her chair away from me
anyway, hopefully we can draw a line under it now as I don't like having an atmosphere and try to get on with everyone. Have to wonder how she knew though. Wonder if she is a lurker on here

Just phoned DH to tell him and asked him to guess who had just phoned and he guessed straight away. Seems her and her DH are desperate to go to a black tie dinner we are going to at the British Embassy in a few weeks and possibly thought we could get them on our table. No chance! anyway, told him what happened and he said he thought something was odd as her DH has just gone home 2 hours early having been 'summonsed'. Hope home truths didn't upset her
anyway, I'm happy today, our weekend and we are going to a posh social function tonight although god knows what I will wear as nothing nice fits

LBB, its so cute when they suck their thumbs. Hope you sort out the formula issues

littleboyblue · 13/05/2009 13:26

MoS I agree that it's not worth being rude if it's not completely necessary, and by all means, accept this womans apology, draw a line under it all and carry on, but don't forget what she has done, the sort of behaviour she is capable of when she thinks she is better than those around her.
And, yes, where you might hope that your honesty over this hasn't upset her too much, but some people need their eyes opening to their behaviour as they aren't always aware. If she has upset you and others by trying to make you all feel you are below her, then I do hope she is a little upset now that she has been told how horrible she has been. Lets hope she remembers.

littleboyblue · 13/05/2009 13:31

I wonder if Luke is teething............Can someone remind me of the symptoms please?
The skin on his face, mostly cheeks has been very dry (hence our trip to A&E the other week, with the rash), he has constantle got his fist in his mouth chewing quite hard. I put my little finger in his mouth earlier to feel along his gums, and they all feel even, there are no swollen areas that I can see. He has a few white spots, but they're milk spots, aren't they? He was biting me quite hard (for him, not me)
I don't think he has a temp or anything, he always feels quite warm, but ds1 was also a sweaty baby.
Maybe I should put a bit of gel on his gums just in case? Can't do any harm can it, as long as the tube says suitable from birth and it's not bonjela?

thehouseofmirth · 13/05/2009 14:14

LBB they're all teething symptoms as is dribbling, bright red cheeks and runny nappies. DS1 started teething at 3 months but the teeth didn't actually appear for another 2-3 months so I think some symptoms can start before the teeth are visible. I swear by Ashton & Parsons powders which are like magic!

PinkTulips · 13/05/2009 14:59

teething and teeth actually appearing are completely unrelated in my experiance

bought aaron some teetha gel as he's a grump today and is gnawing on his hand constantly. figured the camomilla in it will chill him out a bit even if it's not his teeth bothering him.

dinkystinky · 13/05/2009 16:14

Afternoon all. Danny has been the crankypants from hell all yesterday and today - randomly screaming the place down for no apparent reason (baby massage and baby playgroup today were a bust as a result), refusing to feed or sleep properly, and going around with constant red cheeks, froth at the mouth and much gnawing on hands - yup, he appears to be teething too. Fabulous. Only way I can get him to be quiet is to put him in the sling and go walking- he's then quiet so long as I keep moving and catnaps for 20 minutes here and there... Methinks the sling is an essential for our trip to France.

MoS - most amused at DD's version of baa baa black sheep. Good on you for letting the snob have it today.

MS - sounds like your ideal job! Hmm, let us know what you're baking so we can all drool away... Glad the antibiotics are doing the trick; hope you and F get much sleep in tonight.

Lardy - hope Owen is ok. Good luck getting that wee sample. Didnt Pempe have to do one with her little one at some point? Wonder how she managed it.. Hurray for Owen sleeping through again, hope you got lots of sleep in.

LBB - have a nice time at playgroup. A warm bath should sort out your aches and pains abit. They'll be fewer next week and each week you'll feel more energised and less achy afterwards. Hope you feel better soon.

DS1 has now reached the "there's a monster in my bedroom" phase. Between him and Danny's teething/cold/crankiness I'm not envisaging much sleep/rest during our holiday next week.

mumoverseas · 13/05/2009 16:19

LBB sounds like it could be his teeth. H has been like this the last few days and I've tried him on teething gel which has seemed to help

littleboyblue · 13/05/2009 18:15

Thanks all.
Luke's nappies have always been runny. I spoke to hv on monday, she said not to worry about it. She also asked the most odd question: "Does it smell bad?" Me: "Well yes, it's shit"
PT Me too, ds1 started 'teething' at 10 weeks but didn't get a tooth til 10 months.
He isn't dribbling though, so maybe he's just a grottbag!

Playgroup was good. They laid on dinner for the children, chicken and broccoli bake, chicken nuggets, pizza, carrots, cucumber, bread and fruit. Jacob eat a felt-tip pen and a tube of glitter. The pen obviously didn't go down. The glitter did. His nappies will be interesting over the next few days!
They're holding a ladies night again tomorrow where we all go and drink wine in the playroom! I'm quite looking firward to it. I have a bottle of wine and a bag of dorittos ready. How much does everyone want to bet that I'll open them tonight?

littleboyblue · 13/05/2009 18:17

dinky Sorry, meant to say, poor you with ds's sleep probs. Will be a tough one. Tell ds1 that monsters only come to get you if you don't go to sleep when mummy tells you too!

katieblirdsnest · 13/05/2009 20:30

Yesterday was my 40th and i had an absolutely brilliant day...dh had stayed up till the early hours 'decorating' downstairs, just to ensure no-one could be left in any doubt of my age. i was then thoroughly spoilt all day and went out for dinner with a few friends in the evening. it's the first time dp and i have been out together since ivor was born, our babysitter came round but we didn't go out until both kids were in bed. i was pretty jittery about leaving ivor but am SO glad i've broken that duck as i had a great time out and it will be much easier next time.

in answer to the question about grand designs, yes the guy is still working as project manager on other rebuilds/refurbs. they were literally in the pits of despair when the cottage burnt down (in the week their baby was due) and they've turned it round in the most amazing way.
bizarrely, the night their cottage burnt down was the same day i found i was pregnant with dd.

MarkStretch · 13/05/2009 20:35

I managed not to wet myself today.

littleboyblue · 13/05/2009 20:36

katiebn Happy belated birthday
How lovely of your dh.
Pleased you managed to get out without the dc's. It is hard to leave them the first time isn't it? Not for them though I don't think.
I've just realised that we won't be able to get both ds's out of our hair overnight for a while. We have 1 travel cot and 2 sleeping in a cot.
DS1 is a bit big for the travel cot now, but I know he won't sleep in a proper bed yet. I am going to have to buy another travel cot aren't I? Someone at our playgroup says she has 1 that she doesn't use and I can have it, so might take that for ds1 and have our one for ds2. Only because ds2 is at more risk through the night than ds1. I wouldn't use a second hand for Luke, although I suppose they sell new mattresses seperately
waffle, waffle, waffle

littleboyblue · 13/05/2009 20:38

Yay MS I'm still leaking a bit. My AB's have changed my pee to a bright yellow colour, almost glow in the dark and I can see it on the sanitry pad I now have to wear 24/7
TMI TMI TMI!

katieblirdsnest · 13/05/2009 20:49

lbb have you thought about buying a blow up bed in a bag,? i bought a teletubbies one for dd when she was getting too big for travel cot and she loved it. bound to be one themed to a programme that your ds likes.
warning though, it's bloody noisy being in the same room as them if your children move around a lot. and of course dd is far too grown up to like teletubbies now(!).

why the hell have i got the soap awards on? i should be doing the important job of getting the poo soaked pair of trousers and dirty nappy out of the boot of the car before the apprentice starts.

swampster · 13/05/2009 21:07

I have THREE sleeping boys and I am drinking a brandy! AND eating a tub of M&S extremely chocolatey MINI RINGS!!! (excuse exclamation marks but I am excited) !

dinkystinky · 13/05/2009 21:10

No wonder you've got all those exclamation marks going on Swampster - sounds idyllic.

Katieblirdsnest - glad you had a lovely 40th!

MS glad you've managed not to wet yourself today. LBB - good point re the monsters and bedtime line, will try that one out tomorrow...

OP posts:
swampster · 13/05/2009 21:14

We sometimes have to have a quick monster clear-out before bed. When DS2 is satisfied they are no longer there he will go to sleep.

dinkystinky · 13/05/2009 21:22

Have left Pingu and Raah his lion in bed with DS1 to help chase the monsters away into mummy's bedroom and she'll deal with them...

Cocodrillo · 13/05/2009 22:33

You lot have been chatty!

DS, who was going nearly all night, just waking once, for the past week has been feeding at roughly 6.30pm, 12am, 2.30pm, 5am, 8am... At the mo he has a bottle of formula about 4pm, and is bf the rest of the time, but I'm thinking about introducing a bottle of hungry baby milk at his first night feed. The only thing putting me off it the effort involved in stumbling downstairs and nuking a bottle at midnight. Do you think this would help him go longer at night??

elkiedee · 13/05/2009 23:59

coco, ds2 is bf and sleeps better at night than ds1 did on ff from 0-18 months or so. I get dp to change his nappy and feed him at midnight but he then normally settles back to sleep fairly well, sometimes he chatters a bit but he normally sleeps until at least 5 am. If your ds was sleeping well before, maybe his reasons for the change are developmental rather than something formula will fix.

Also, if you do change his feeds, making the change at his first night feed seems like a hassle for you and a bit of a delay for him, especially as that sounds to be when he's going to be at his hungriest, if it's over 5 hours since previous feed at 6.30 pm.

littleboyblue · 14/05/2009 00:50

katiebn Oh yeah, I've seen the inflatable ones, might be worth thinking about. Although I still don't know if he'd go to sleep if he can get out and run and wouldn't want to put my poor mum through that!
