amber sometimes a break can make decisions easier - I hope you can make the right choice for you (and believe me, we're still debating the wisdom of me going back part time here, even though I've a PhD in my field and a decent research position - I should not be considering quitting from a logical perspective).

Today was the boys first day in nursery. Fraser did okay, just a few tears but when I picked him up he was happily playing and didn't see me for ages. DS1 (almost three) actually had a harder time and cried quite a bit. When he was playing outside he could see in to where Fraser was and started trying to get to him and was really upset that they couldn't be together. It made me feel like I must be doing something right if DS1 wanted to be with his brother.

systems shift sleeping does make it hard to schedule! Fraser is now napping at the same time as the one group I really want to go to - it's a bit of a nightmare. I've started Fraser on cow's milk in a cup and he's doing well so I've cut down to three feeds a day too - it's nice not to be so attached to them. I hope you can schedule more lovely lunch breaks without kids and get a bit of peace. I think it's necessary sometimes!

I just got sent an email inviting me to a conference this time next year in Canada (unfortunately not as an invited speaker where they'd pay my way, but as a workshop participant at least) & I really want to go. Between this and Norway in August, I'm all of a sudden much happier about going back to work.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 01/05/2009 19:04

Ali, what time is P waking up?

going, thank you, that's interesting - did you get hassled by HCPs to get it done or did you tell them you were waiting?

Amber, I make all my big life changing decisions on holiday! Suspect you could negotiate on working your notice. Now go and enjoy your holiday!

SA, thank you. I'm having osteopathy and acupuncture at the moment - they do ease the symptoms but it doesn't last. I have now pulled my stomach muscles (I didn't think I had any but I can feel them now I've hurt them! ) and so am in even more pain! My body really doesn't cope with pg too well, ho hum.

Good to hear you're having a relaxing afternoon - hope it lasted .

AH, wow, Norway and Canada - your job sounds much more exciting than mine!

libralady · 01/05/2009 21:59

Rolf I enjoy being a school governor. I find it so interesting.
Hopefully it'll put me in good stead when I start looking for TA jobs later on in the year when I am made redundant.
Mind you, after the pants week I've had at work this week, I've had some reallt positive feedback from my Legal Department. Apparently they cannot run their department without the work myself and my colleague do and they dais if there is anything they can say to the powers that be to influence them to keep me on they would do it and send some e-mails etc.
Of course I was extremely flattered, but after the sh1t and extremely low morale and apathy in the office, I really don't know if they turned round and said we'd like you to stay, whether or not I would IYKWIM.
As far as I'm concerned I am on the count down (although nothing officially received in writing, as far as I'm concerned my final day is 30th September, so less than 5 months to go!!!

thegreenfairy · 01/05/2009 23:12

Hi all - long time no speak! Have been meaning to get on for months, but work/ everything else has got in the way, no shock there...

sponge congratulations!
josey sorry you're having a tough time...

waves to everyone else

Crazy to be thinking about the whole MMR thing - where has the time gone?!

Storm is very well - four weeks till her first birthday now and standing up a lot, but I reckon she's a while off walking. She's mostly slept like a log with occasional tricky nights so I feel very lucky. She has six teeth through so far, but got them quite late.

I'm working four days a week now and I wish it was three, but am skint enough already! Anyway, DH looks after DD in the day and I'm home to put her to bed, which works for us. Still BF, but only twice a day, DH does the rest.

Things are pretty good with DH - relationships are deffo harder with kids. We're not planning more but we're happy as we are.

So, a quick summary, as any more would be rude given how long I've been away! Will make an effort to check in regularly again. Hi again and sleep tight!

abdnhiker · 02/05/2009 07:31

sponge my job's not quite as exciting as it sounded there - honestly the trips are great but stressful with the kids and I spend all my time in a conference rather than on the holiday I'd really like.

libra it's great you've got positive feedback from your work - I can see why you'd want to be leaving regardless though.

greenfairy hello and welcome back... have wondered where you disappeared to! Relationships are harder with kids, especially the first year or so I think. It takes a while to get into the new groove.

AliandHerScallywag · 02/05/2009 08:39

Sponge - on a good night he will go to 5.30 and then might go back to sleep for another 40 mins after a feed. So that's not too bad. Less good is when he wakes an hour earlier but follows the same pattern so is raring to go before 6am. Last night was good though which is lucky as I have a bit of a hangover this morning . A friend unexpectedly came round for dinner. She is a single London gal and drinks like I used to!

Greenfairy - hello, nice to hear from you. Glad you and your family are well and happy.

AH - glad the first day at nursery worked out. My heart melted hearing about your DS1 looking for Fraser.

Deb - did your day improve?

spongebrainmaternitypants · 02/05/2009 10:07

Libra, I was thinking of becoming a school governor next year to keep in touch with education while I'm out of the loop. How much time does it take up?

greenfairy, how lovely to hear from you, and thank you! Thought you'd abandoned us for good . Glad to hear all is going well and Storm is thriving.

AH, I've never done a job that involves international travel - closest I've come is a trip to Blackpool ! So, always get very of others who do - but I know from dh's experience that it is rarely as glamorous as it sounds!

Ali, that's tough - Alex woke at 5.45am all last week but 7am this morning so don't know whether he's gone back to his 7am waking or not. Anything before 6am just seems like hell doesn't it?

Morning to everyone else - beautiful day here and I'm off to the hairdressers to get my hair dyed. Not ready to embrace my gray yet!

abdnhiker · 02/05/2009 13:08

Ali I love the line "drinks like I used to", it could be true for me in so many ways. and Fraser's up most mornings before 6 now [annoyed smiley needed].

DebInAustria · 02/05/2009 13:14

TGF - lovely to hear from you again

Ali - yes thanks, we went out to a park and walked along the river for a couple of hours

Having compostibg problems here today - what joy - any gardeners in our group?

Amberc · 02/05/2009 17:35

Back again - it's that evening time of limbo. Got some hideous news this afternoon so i have to unload. My sister called me, she is in france where her husband took her for a romantic birthday surprise. She's in hospital. Her cervix has started to open and she is leaking amniotic fluid. The prognosis is not good at all. Maybe her sac will heal itself and her cervix will close, but they said the baby will be very badly damaged due to lack of fluid. Maybe she will miscarry one of the twins. They reckon the most likely outcome is that she will miscarry both of them. She is 18 weeks pregnant now. No-one speaks English and they don't speak French. Can anyone who believes in prayer please include my sister? Thanks x

spongebrainmaternitypants · 02/05/2009 19:33

Amber so sorry to hear your news - how awful for your poor sister, and to be abroad when it happened too. I just don't know what to say .

DebInAustria · 02/05/2009 19:46

Oh Amber - your poor sister, and to be in France as well. I'll keep them in my thoughts and hope that the Drs have it all wrong.

Have you posted on the living overseas forum? There might be a MNetter living close enough to go and help out at the hospital with translation.

AliandHerScallywag · 02/05/2009 21:28

Oh Amber, that is awful . Thinking of you and your sister.

Deb - I'm no gardener, but I do have a compost bin. What is the problem?

DebInAustria · 02/05/2009 22:37

it's smell - that's my compost Ali, I think it's too much greens and not enough browns from my reading on the internet today!

AliandHerScallywag · 03/05/2009 06:45

I think that means it is too wet Deb. Try adding a dry layer such as loosely scrunched up newspaper. I have a link to some extensive compost info that I will send when I get on the big computer.

abdnhiker · 03/05/2009 08:27

Amber sending hugs and I will pray for your sister. The poor thing!

Amberc · 03/05/2009 10:08

Thanks everyone - they have found a nurse who speaks English now. It seems they are just waiting for her to go into labour now. They said it would be a million to one chance for either baby to survive. Sometimes life can be very cruel. Anyway - please go back to normal conversation. Just needed to unload and I have now so thanks for listening. PS it's raining in Cyprus - flaming typical!

poppy34 · 03/05/2009 10:12

Quick post to mark place but will update later- Amber so sorry about your sister and am thinking of her and hope outcome is same as for my mil (she thought she'd lost both twins when had my bol). Glad holiday is nice and I am pleased you have made your decision re work as you sound much more at peace about it.

whinegums · 03/05/2009 10:58

Amber, so sorry to hear about your sister, and glad you can come on here to offload. Hope the rain stops soon.

Big news here - first night ever without a feed during the night! B not entirely happy about it, but we managed. He fed at 11.30pm, and then went through til 6am this morning. That's not slept through by the way, on the day that happens you'll all be able to hear the cheers from Scotland.

AliandHerScallywag · 03/05/2009 16:52

Deb I have sent you an email with lots of information about composting. (To your/Nigel's gmail account)

PiggyPenguin · 03/05/2009 19:31

AMBER sorry to hear about your sister, fingers crossed everyone is wrong.

Waves to Greenfairy

DebInAustria · 03/05/2009 19:52

Great news Whinegums - hope tonight is just as good

Ali - thanks for the e-mail

Amber -hope the rain's stopped, any news from your sister?

AliandHerScallywag · 03/05/2009 20:00

Whinegums - should have said earlier that that is great news about B's sleep. Lets hope he does a repeat performance tonight.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 03/05/2009 21:47

amber so sorry to hear about your sister. I really feel for her.

sponge no one hassled me in to giving the girls thier jabs though when I saw the dr to book in my pregnancy with ds she did ask if I would give him the jab!

Rolf · 03/05/2009 23:13

Amber your poor sister
