Cross-post Ali- well done on the running!

AliandHerScallywag · 07/06/2009 21:05

Thanks Puree

poppy34 · 07/06/2009 21:07

Purée that looks like a fab cup- edie has been keener on drinking from my water bottles that have a sport top so this looks similar.
Deb m and s swimwear very flattering and think last tankini I had did come down to y bottoms (ie no muffin top on display). Talking of which my gut expanding just in time for summer!

Amberc · 07/06/2009 21:08

Libra - what a nightmare - I was chatting with Mark about what we would have done in the situation (with DS1) and I just don't know. I think he will probably have been punished enough with the shock of what happened. You poor thing.

Happy birthday Harvey!

Sponge -get a doppler - I got one for exactly that reason and I was so glad I did.Put my mind at rest more than anything ever.

Nappies - in the same situation. My best idea was to give Luke a bottle of milk and it worked a treat for the morning one. He took no notice of what I was doing and let me change him with no problem. The other thing is opeining the clean nappy up underneath him before you've taken the firsdt one off. Then you don't have to lift his legs up twice. Just undo the old one, do a clean up, whip the dirty one away and he lands straight onto a clean one.

Luke had a nice day today at his grandad's and got a walker/ride on which Mark broke trying to put together, a postman pat car and a giant car that toddlers are meant to get in and 'drive'. I know he would love it to death but we live in a flat! What do we do with it?! Also discovered that Luke does not like cake or chocolate - is he normal?!

Been reading Anabel Karmel book and she says that one year olds should be eating things like chicken strips and fish fingers and trying to eat with a spoon. Luke is at the stage where he spits out lumps in food - does that make him eating retarded?!

Amberc · 07/06/2009 21:10

PS - I have never managed to find a tankini that doesn't stop just above the bit you most want to cover so will be reading for any suggestions!

pureeandpearls · 07/06/2009 21:28

Is anyone else like me- I don't really want toddlypearls to feed herself until she understands how to be tidy she just seems to throw things overboard when she's had enough. OCD? Moi?

poppy34 · 07/06/2009 21:35

Lol at purée - attempts at feeding patchy here. Have to say I am eating my words re annabel karmel as for all the fact it's not very innovative, e does seem to like her food. So much so she ate herself daft in Friday and couldn't sleep.
Purée I would feel like that if I wasn't such a pigpen (to quote dh)
Back to apprentice - dh reckons yasmina cleaning up- I am not sure ...

DebInAustria · 07/06/2009 21:40

Thank you so much for you advice ladies

Ali - I have the Ikea ones and they are OK at 1st but very soon let the water through, who has time to iron bibs? Also - well done on the run, I'm impressed.

Neenz - I have the TT 1st cup too and want one that doesn't shake the contents out!!

Puree - thank you so much for all your links, those bibs look great, which size do you have? Did you buy them direct from that site? I love the girly flowery ones, not sure Ethan would though!!

Poppy - I think I'll try M+S, my last tankini was from Matalan, cheap but really good until now, it's all of a sudden lost all elasticity and gone VERY baggy. All the women here wear bikinis regardless of their shape, ds1 asked me why I didn't - how sweet, a tankini is the closest I'll get and it's so much easier to have a wee than pulling down a wet costume!

Just seen Paro on FB talking about packing so I think she moves soon, isn't her wedding in July? I have asked her, I'll report back.

Amber - Tristan doesn't like chocolate or cream or icing, he can just about cope with plain cake. So it's unusual but good for the teeth! Luke isn't "eating retarded", my friends son had a big thing about lumps in food but he grew to accept them, just took a bit longer.

DebInAustria · 07/06/2009 21:42

Ethan throws his food too and now we're going to my Mums at the weekend I'm trying (in vain) to control this behaviour - hah!!

pureeandpearls · 07/06/2009 21:49

Debs- bought direct from the site. The small ones are now too small so go for large. I can recommend the lunchbox too- it's reversible!!

LOL Poppy- Apprentice just makes me want to reach for the Dairy Milk!

DebInAustria · 07/06/2009 21:56

Thanks Puree

Here's Paro's update "The movers come on the 15th June. We leave the island on the 3rd and the wedding is on the 14th. The wedding is the only thing that is more or less sorted!!! hehe"

libralady · 07/06/2009 22:17

Evening all.

Thanks for all the enquiries about the boys.

Had a rough night with Luke. For a child that normally sleeps 8pm through to about 10am at weekends, he woke up crying at 11.30, 2.30 when we were both up with him for about an hour - ended up bringing him into bed with us, giving him a bottle, again at 4.15 and 7am. Got him off to sleep again and then got him up at 11.15.
DS1 seems no longer full of remorse one iota. In fact he's been a right little sh1t all day.
In the end I sent him to bed at 6pm as I'd had enough of him.
Doesn't help with the fact that I've had a really bad cold since Friday week with a touch of flu thrown in and I still feel like shit. Going back to work tomorrow, but to be honest, I think they'll send me back home again but at least I've made the effort.
I hate being sick after having had so much time off with my back a couple of years ago. I know I'd had major surgery, but felt guilty as I was 'sick' iyswim. Then last summer I was off for maternity leave. This summer will be the first I've worked in 4 years.
Plus last week when I was off I spent too much money. Ended up buying a new washing machine which admittedly was desperatly needed adn on Wednesday I bought a conservatory which we will start to put up next weekend. At least DH will anyhow. He's been promised that if he completes it, he can then go on a stag weekend in September to Spain.
Sorry long post again.
Bill hope you are bearing up, but like someone else said, the midwife will be able to put your mind at rest. Am though at the EPU given your history.
Happy birthday to all the babies. Can't believe Luke is 1 in 2 weeks. Where has all that time gone?

libralady · 07/06/2009 22:18

That was meant to say not 'sick' iyswim

AliandHerScallywag · 07/06/2009 22:34

Puree - I am tempted by the long sleeved bib that you linked to. Unlike all other long sleeved bibs that I have seen it has a proper pocket at the bottom. Infact, I remember babypearls wearing the pink flowery one when we met in January, and thinking at the time what a superior (and pretty) bib it was. How often do you need to wash them? I am trying to calculate how many I would need as I could probably buy about 10 Ikea bibs for the same price .

pureeandpearls · 08/06/2009 07:49

Ha ha- if it gets messy at meal times, I rinse under the tap with assistance from the washing brush. Otherwise bung in the machine when its grubby enough that I'm embarrassed by it! They are more expensive but I do love them!

poppy34 · 08/06/2009 07:59

Libra sympathies here up between 12.40 and 3.30 and then at 5 with e who was keen to shout and talk- not sure what is wrong as milk, medicine etc and ended up settling (sort of) on me. Am shattered as is dh - better go as rosemarys baby trying to dry her hair

spongebrainmaternitypants · 08/06/2009 08:18

Quick post cos coping with clingy baby - have him entertained with a wooden spoon at the moment, but it won't last!

Neenz, yes, blocked tubes. When first had a HyCoSy (xray with dye) to check my tubes, not one single drop of dye got through. I later had a lap and dye which showed left tube totally blocked and damaged beyond repair and right tube in pretty much the same state bar a hole in it so tiny that the consultant said he reckoned "one in a million chance of an embryo getting through". So, as you can imagine, I don't honestly believe I'm pg .

Another vote for Tesco long sleeve bibs here.

Ali, would love to still see you tomorrow. No use stewing at home .

Right off to see MW.

DebInAustria · 08/06/2009 09:37

Sponge - hope all goes well today, let us know as soon as you can.

Ali - I was put off by the long sleeved versions as it says hand wash , I have one that needs handwashing and what a faff.

Libra ((hugs)) for you, hope you feel better soon, and that your ds1 has a better day.

Poppy - sorry to hear you had a rough night.

abdnhiker · 08/06/2009 09:40

ali am very impressed with your run... keep telling me about them and maybe it'll be the kick I need to get moving again.

libra my friends DD1 pushed her DD2 down the stairs yesterday and my friend was really upset (fortunately no injuries). Hugs...

sponge I second the get a doppler advice! As for feeling the baby - I didn't feel a think until at least 21 weeks with both boys. I must be insensitive but please don't worry if you're not feeling much.

amber fraser's still on the 7 month+ jars, although he's fine with finger food. No rush!

tankinis are worse than bikinis IMO. My ribs look fine, but the bit that the tankini shows is horrible. I wear a one-piece in public. And deb - I used to be a competitive swimmer and for toilet trips there's always the secret method - just pull the bathing suit to the side - much easier.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 08/06/2009 11:07

sponge hope the midwife reassures you. One of my friends really didn't feel much movement until quite late in pregnancy and it was because her placenta was in front cushioning all the kicks!

Having another crap day, my oven is broken and I have lost dd1's prescription!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 08/06/2009 11:11

Amber my friends dd was still eating 7 month jars at three years old, the only other food she would eat was choclate, bananas and cheeiros. Not ideal but she is a very healthy child. Just keep giving finger food and he will get used to eating lumps.

Amberc · 08/06/2009 12:23

Hi All,

Well re food - I have earmarked some of the Annabel Karemel recipes to try out. Did the mini shepherd's pie and Luke loved it but I did mince the mince until it was like pate.

Sorry for bad nights last night. Luke vomited all over himself last night so I am with you all. He then woke up at 4.55.

I hardly bother with bibs these days as a. Luke is spoon fed by me so I usually manage to get it all in his mouth and b. he's always covered in crap anyway and I am such a slummy mummy I only bother to change him if we need the general public to see him! He hates them anyway. He also hates his high chair now and tries to escape every time he gets in. Now with his increased movement he can actually escape which is worrying!

When is your scan Sponge?

AliandHerScallywag · 08/06/2009 13:12

Going how is the glandual fever ATM?

Aberdeen LOL at me inspiring you, remember there was a fair bit of walking yesterday too. Don't hold your breath waiting for the next run though - if I manage once a week I am doing well.

Peter and I are both pooped this afternoon. I took him to something called "Boogie Babies" for the first time this morning. It is in a huge sports hall. All the other babies were content to sit in a circle and sing and dance. Peter was just off all over the place with me chasing after him. It was good fun and it finished up with the babies playing on a parachute which Peter thought was pretty special. To finish me off I walked there and back (up hill) as the car parking is limited.

I am also inclined to agree with Aberdeen that tankinis are worse than bikinis. I am long in the body so they never cover me up enough. I have reverted to wearing my all in one when we swim now, after I realised that Peter was perfectly capable of ripping my bikini top off should he wish to.

Amberc · 08/06/2009 14:21

Ali - Luke ripped off my bikini top on holiday too. My tankinis are from Brvissimo and scafolded to the extreme to hold up my mammoth jugs!

Essie3 · 08/06/2009 14:27

Hi there, supposed to be working because I took the morning off to go swimming, but then I saw recommendations for baby things to buy, so I'm totally hooked...I also have a big mania for Tommee Tippee and own most products they do...
Sippy cups - pmsl... Actually, Iestyn seems to be getting better with drinking. He will drink from a doidy with me holding it thus totally defeating the object. But today I was drinking coffee, and he clambered up and sounded angry which usually means he wants what I have. Mum fetched a tommee tippee cup, with the lid (the classic) and he refused, but then took a sip without the lid, then took a sip with the lid all by himself! So we have hope.
We have a variety of bibs. This is Tim's favourite for reasons unknown. It works though. This is also superb.

Puree totally with you on the mess phobia. The little TT suction thing - does it work? Does it always, always stay stuck? I'm worried about the one time it pings food at speed onto the curtains... Iestyn likes to pretend to feed himself, but actually when he's properly hungry it's better for me to feed as he can't get it in quick enough. Amber he was ages getting into lumps. It's been a few weeks now. He would actually gag and often vomit. Just a thought - forgive my random non-medical suggestions - sleep apnea, now that's to do with the throat, right? Or is it nose? Anyway, is the hatred of lumps maybe linked, maybe uncomfortable or scary because it's blocking an already small airway? Now that sounds stupid but it sounded quite intelligent in my head!

Deb and all other tankini phobics, let me introduce you to...taa daaaaaaa...the Land's End swim briefs with tummy control. They're separates, and a few of the tankini tops have strategic ruching. Personally, I find my tummy ruches so I don't need that kind of thing.

Libra been thinking about your nightmare all last night. No suggestions - although maybe a timely reminder whenever he's playing up and being disobedient?? Or is that child abuse? It's so hard. I can't imagine Iestyn ever doing anything like that. But then your DS1 was a pfb once, right?

Thanks to everyone with the comments on the settling. It's been mixed, tbh. Neenz I don't think it's teeth (quite handy but he gets diarrhoea whenever teeth are imminent) but if it was likely I would definitely medicate. (Puree might agree, having had wisdom teeth out recently; I had a wisdom tooth abscess and can confirm that it is more painful than childbirth.) There's something weird going on, though; when Tim tries to take Iestyn away to settle him he cries and grabs onto my neck as if his life depends on it. He screams when Tim disentangles him, but by the time they've reached the corridor (5 paces??) then he's fine again. I can't really work out what's going on, but that with the success of me walking out suggests something like wanting to be with me to stay awake and play? Answers on a postcard, please!

God, look at the time. I've been over half an hour typing that mammoth and pointless post!
