hello hello hello

[viva listens to the echoes]

Amberc · 14/05/2009 12:29

It is a bit quiet recently - I can only post misery at the mo which is why I am keeping a bit schtum.

DebInAustria · 14/05/2009 13:30

Helloooooooo, where is everyone? Can't chat, Ethan is too mobile! Hope you're all Ok.

whinegums · 14/05/2009 14:34

I'm here! Have just been posting a rant about the twunts at Royal Mail on chat. They 'attempted' to deliver my FitFlops today - well they didn't attempt very hard, because there's been someone in all day. Grrrrrrrr.

Hopefully everyone else is out enjoying the sunshine - we're heading out to the park soon.

PiggyPenguin · 14/05/2009 15:50

Amber, quickly sending love to your poor sister.

And high fives to Oli for being such a star!

Not posting much at the moment. I had one of those weeks where I felt a bit overlooked (and therefore unloved!) so am taking time out to get over myself. will be back soon I'm sure.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 14/05/2009 17:42

Hi all, lurking too .

V busy and stressed - having to put in a grievance procedure at work which is a nightmare. So upset it's come to this .

Amber, so sorry to hear about your sister. Words just cannot express how awful it is .

Sybil, sorry you felt overlooked .

One good piece of news, heard heartbeat yesterday .

Hi to all x

(Oh and Essie, your in-laws are seriously weird ).

neenztwinz · 14/05/2009 18:18

Hello! Been off MN for a whole week since the DTs' birthday - just been too busy and trying not to use the laptop in the evenings when DH is here!

Thanks for all the birthday messages, I was really touched! We had a fab day and a fab weekend, so tired this week though, not helped by Esther waking at 3.30 and not goimg back to sleep for 90mins two night in a row. T was awake twice last night too, tho E slept through. They have loads of teeth coming through at the top. They had their hib/meningitis booster today and I cut E's nap down to 1.5hrs cos she has been refusing to go to sleep (tho she has such a sore bum at the mo I think it might be that).

Got to go cos doing bathtime on my own tonight cos DH is stuck at work, but I will be back on later after I have put them down. (and after I have poured a glass of wine - it is Thursday you know, almost the weekend!!)

PiggyPenguin · 14/05/2009 18:39

No Sponge I am It is no one else's fault, I certainly don't think I was ignored on purpose it is just one of those things. That's why i decided to have a little break and get a bit of perspective!

PiggyPenguin · 14/05/2009 18:58

Also Sponge, fab news about the heartbeat. How far along are you now? Do you have names?

spongebrainmaternitypants · 14/05/2009 19:01

neenz, sorry to hear the DTs aren't sleeping well - how is the CM search going?

sybil, I thought I was 16 weeks tomorrow, but my MW has now made it 16 +5 tomorrow which is fab . Still can't truly relax until the 20 wk scan but trying to be calmer. The work shit doesn't help of course .

spongebrainmaternitypants · 14/05/2009 19:04

Oh, and if it's any consolation, I posted on another thread about SPD and acupuncture a couple of days ago and got completely ignored , so know how you feel!

Amberc · 14/05/2009 19:27

I can't wait to see your bump sponge!

spongebrainmaternitypants · 14/05/2009 19:29

It's big! Rather too big for 16+ weeks but ho hum!!

Your new FB pics are cute - can't believe how much L looks like his daddy!

How's your sis? How long will she have to stay in France? Bet she can't wait to get home now .

neenztwinz · 14/05/2009 19:37

Hi Sybil, hi Sponge!!

Well Esther is crying again since I put her down for bed. I can't work it out. She goes to sleep great for her lunch nap (in fact she has fallen asleep in her high chair at lunchtime last two days), and I have to wake her after 2hrs. But then when I put her down at 7pm she cries and cries and cries. So I thought maybe it is cos she has had too much sleep in the day, so I cut down the nap to 1.5hrs today. She seems better tonight (just whingy instead of full-on screaming) so I think it will be better tonight. Last night she basically cried on and off (falling asleep then waking 10mins later) for three hours. Then I changed her into a disposable and she went to sleep. That was after giving her ibuprofen and calpol cos I thought maybe it was her teeth, but now think it was her nappy rash as the disposable seemed to do the trick. I got some timodine on prescription today and I am going to keep her in sposies till the rash clears. The skin is all broken, and is bleeding sometimes. It cleared up almost completely when we were on holiday (when she was in sposies), I have tried to keep her as clean and dry as poss in her cloth nappies ( and using metanium) but it is just not doing the trick. Hopefully in a week or two it will be cleared up. Then I will try putting her back in cloth and seeing how we go.

T's bum is bad too but not in the same way - he has blisters all round his legs, which I thought was cos his wraps were too small so I moved him into large wraps but it doesn't seem to be getting much better, then I thought maybe it is the nappies rubbing on the legs (cos I am using lots of different types now, not just Motherease and terries, I am using NappyNation, which I think might be the culprits cos they are so bulky and quite a tight fit). Anyway now the blisters seem to have spread to under and on his testicles so I wonder if it is something else? Anyone any ideas? I think I will post the question in nappies or health (or both). One of the blisters burst overnight and he was awake twice screaming. I gave him ibuprofen and then calpol cos I thought it must be his teeth, well he went back to sleep both times so who knows. It is so hard at the mo to tell what is wrong with them! I wonder also whether it is the way I am washing the nappies cos maybe I put too much washing powder in... that would irritate them wouldn't it? And maybe too many nappies in the machine at once so they might not be getting clear of all the nasties...? Well, I am going to start washing every three days not four (these new nappies are much bulkier than terries so the machine is fuller) and hope that helps too.

Going - camping with a one year old, it's quite hard work! We tried to give them a long-ish nap in the day in the pram and then let them stay up with us till it goes dark then take them for a walk in the pram to get them off to sleep - then transfer into the cots. It would be better if they would sleep with us or even let us rock them to sleep but they won't. E has slept in the pram the last two trips cos she wouldn't settle the first time and DH forgot her cot the second. We try to put all the stove/fridge/shelves etc on one side of the tent and then put chairs/cots in front of them so the rest of the floor space can be used for them to crawl around. It is easier if the weather is good and they can play outside in the day. We also took blankets to drape over the cot/pram to keep it dark. We took a microwave which I found really useful for their meals, and we took their IKEA highchairs. They slept in vests+babygros+fluffy sleepsuits and then a 2.5tog sleeping bag too. Pack some Medised for emergencies!!

Essie, your in-laws are very strange!! How long are they coming up for? Very wierd when he is going to be in nursery on his birthday anyway!

I am meeting a CM tomorrow - really hoping I like her cos CM fees are £14 A DAY less than nursery! Cost is not the most important consideration obviously but when I went to look at our two local nurseries last week I was not all that impressed. The first one was dirty, the rooms were quite small and the owner wasn't very friendly. I actually felt sorry for the children there! The second one was much better - bigger, brighter, just refurbished and all the staff seemed lovely. I would be happy for them to go there but it is £70 a day (for the two), so £140 a week. I will only make about £200 a week after tax/NI so it doesn't leave much. CM is £56 a day so over £100 a month cheaper. It will mean I will get to keep about a third more of my wages than if I used the nursery. I have another CM to meet next week so hopefully I will like one of the two. They sound lovely on the phone. I am quite looking forward to going back to work now, and I think I'll probably stay long-term. I think once you are happy with your childcare arrangements everything else fits into place. I am even thinking when they are three they can go to nursery school in the mornings and the CM can pick them up - do they do that? - then CM costs even less! Will have another baby next year anyway.

Talking of which, I got my first period since the babies were born last week! All on my own, with no need for any help from Clomid . I needed C to help me ovulate for the twins cos I just was not having periods at all after a m/c so it is great to actually have a period, just hope I can get some sort of regular cycle now. I am trying to take my temps in the morning but it is hard when I am jumping up to get a crying baby!

Amber I am so so sorry for your sister . My thoughts and prayers are with her and your family.

Great news about Oli, Josey - she is such a star! I can imagine how wonderful it was to see her try to use her spoon! I get chuffed when my two do it so I can only imagine how it feels to see Oli manage it.

Esther has gone to sleep

DebInAustria · 14/05/2009 20:38

Wow Neenz - you made up for your week away from MN!! Glad Esther's asleep, poor Theo's legs sound sore. Hope the CM is OK, I loved the one the boys went to. She picked up from Nursery.Good luck with the ttc, must be a good sign to have a period without intervention.

Sybil - glad you're back

Whinegums - another day to wait to get those legs and bum then?

Sponge - sorry to hear about your problems with work

I'm not doing so well on the not eating chocolate front - I has managed to eat all the creme eggs up (it was a struggle) so I didn't have much to tempt me in the house. Today my online chemist order came (nappies deodorant, soap etc) and in both boxes was a free bar of chocolate - big bars too. Of course it would be a waste not to try them wouldn't it? Weird though isn't it to have free chocolate. You wouldn't believe the packaging though, small things come in boxes, I got 2 today - about 45cmsx30x30 -quite big, one wasn't full, the other felt very light, It had 2 deodorants in - only 2 and the free chocolate. Ridiculous.

Rolf · 14/05/2009 20:42

Josey Hooray for Olivia!

Amber your sister is in my thoughts and prayers.

Sybil sorry you felt ignored.

Abdn how is work going now?

BDQ so impressed at you doing exams. My placenta brain wouldn't get along too well with exams.

Neenz glad Esther is asleep now - hope it lasts! I know childminders who do nursery pick-ups. It can work very well, ime. Don't know what to suggest about the DTs poor bums. Have you tried washing clean nappies as hot as possible without detergent - just to get any residue out in case that's what's bothering them?

Essie at your in-laws.
Just a random thought - when DS1 started at school, I remember looking at some of the girls in his class, who all seemed so grown-up and female, and thinking "when you're older, if you ever upset him, or make him feel small, I'll put you on my list and I'll get you" . The is so you know that I'm not scary or anything and it's tongue in cheek! Anyway, that feeling hasn't really gone away and I bet being a mother in law is really difficult.

Sponge 16 weeks! That is so exciting and lovely. Do you have names yet or are you keeping them to yourself?

Whinegums - too bad about the fitflops. Another day before you get buns of steel!

Poppy have you sorted out your holiday dilemma? I don't have any advice as, believe it or not, we're crap at holidays . Going, you're so brave going camping.

Deb, Viva, everyone else - hello

Essie3 · 14/05/2009 20:45

Evening all, and a special hi to Sybil - not being ignored!
I posted looking for a funky haircut on the style thread but nobody responded. Anybody here got any good ideas what I can do with my disastrous hair? I want it to be funky, choppy, a bit shorter - but I need pictures of people with that kind of haircut, but I don't read the right kind of magazines. I have hair like a newborn's btw.
Great news about the heartbeat, sponge, and the period, Neenz.

And thanks for the comments on the inlaws - I was worried I was being weird, but it is them! Mind you, they're being mega helpful next week because we have mega issues with wallpaper (long story) and they are going to get the wallpaper for us and deliver it to our house in Tooting (they live in Essex) when the decorator is there. We were desperate and considering trying to courier it to the decorator etc.

Off to watch old Frasiers now.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/05/2009 20:47

Neenz - have you tried a different washing powder because he may possibly have developed and allergy to the one that you are using. Metanium cream is also very good and will help to create a barrier.

Essie3 · 14/05/2009 20:47

LOL, great minds think alike, Deb, Rolf! X-posted.

Hello five. I second the metanium. Or meconium as we call it here. (My mum said 'there's meconium in the bathroom if you need it' today! )

quick post to say hi and mark place - we are having a wonder week here with wakeful edie at night so not good on posting - will catch up at weekend. deb fit flops are ace - I swear helped me get back to fitness post edie as they make youbstand properly and are super comfy.
neenz no advice re twins rash but sorryfor them.

And sponge you know I swear by acupuncture and there was some study about it being best relief for muscular pain.

Better go as being wailed and pointed at

abdnhiker · 14/05/2009 21:29

neenz I had my first period last week too - during my first week back at work. I was not impressed. But I'm pleased that I'm sort of back to normal-ish. Last time we started trying for a second when DS1 was this age so I'm glad we didn't try earlier if I wouldn't have been fertile yet anyways.

sybil hi! I feel like I've been all wrapped up in myself lately so am saying hello.

sponge sorry your work is crap - I had a horrible time when I went back from mat leave last time and had to file a bullying complaint against my line manager. It was horrible and made me feel so ill - but it was worth it in the end as I'm much happier now.

rolf work is fine and the boys are settling in better at nursery. I'm so relieved... we only had minimal tears today and Fraser is no longer seeming scared and panicky, just unhappy. I hope he'll eventually like it there (or I'll get up the gumption to quit).

deb chocolate is for eating - I am exactly the same!

essie no hair help - mine's the exact opposite, thick and half-wavy. Every time I get it cut, the stylist screws it up (because it's so thick) so I now cut it myself reasoning that I can do just as bad a job as they can, but I'm free.

poppy Fraser's screaming the place down at 3am these days too. I don't remember DS1 being this random (good weeks/bad weeks).. it's so tiring!

whinegums · 14/05/2009 21:31

Ah, Sybil, sorry you were feeling ignored. If it makes you feel any better, I think I managed to kill every thread I posted on yesterday. Whinegumsnaemates...

Ha ha at the comments about just one more day until miracle FitFlops give me buns of steel, etc. I need more than wobbly shoes. Surgery probably.

Hiya Neenz, oh poor twins and sore bums.

Deb, hurrah for free chocolate. I have joined in with one of the MN book swaps, and we are also sending chocolate with our books. See what I mean about needing more than shoes. A touch of willpower would help.

Essie, which wallpaper did you get in the end? I won't be offended if you didn't like my suggestion, it's not to everyone's tastes!

Rolf, I reckon I'll be the MIL from hell. Not that B will EVER want to leave me of course, heh heh, how could any mere girl ever live up to us??!

Glad all continuing to go well Sponge - I saw on FB you're calling Spongelet Bill. Awww.

Wave to all, and glad it's a bit busier here!

DebInAustria · 14/05/2009 21:44

Hi everyone, glad you've all appeared again!

Nigel and I have just talked about the idea of Ethan going to a CM - for maybe 1 or 2 mornings. I haven't felt the need before now but it is so difficult to do all our normal housekeeping things for a family of 5 and the apartment stuff on top. Today he thankfully slept for a couple of hours this morning and I was able to paint some more balcony wood, but when he doesn't sleep I'm tearing my hair out.I feel guilty (what's new) but I have tried to tell myself that I do have more on my plate than a regular SAHM.I have so many unfinished jobs around the house and apartments.Nigel is also busy composing and I was beginning to resent the time he was spending on that. So, now we need to ask around, and see how much it costs, and go from there. I feel relieved that we have discussed it at last.

DebInAustria · 14/05/2009 21:46

Essie - short,choppy hairstyles
