When I was 3 and my brother was born I used to help change his nappy. I also used to help feed him. I can't even trust ds to prevent M from trying to her own poo.

ronshar · 08/05/2009 12:10

AAAHHH your first mistake. He is a male! Nuff said.

Marthasmama · 08/05/2009 12:13

At least he hasn't tried to kill her. Dh tried to kill his sister on a few occasions. And I mean he tried to kill her, actively!

Rhian82 · 08/05/2009 12:31

Ooh I read a newspaper article about kids like that - one had buried his baby sister in the garden, literally dug a hole and covered her in earth! Luckily he hadn't packed it down properly so she didn't suffocate before being rescued!

Marthasmama · 08/05/2009 12:37

Jesus! He wasn't that bad, actually he probably hadn't thought of that. He did tip her pram over, pushed her high chair over and other things I can't remember.... So far I have caught ds trying to feed M chocolate, shaking her by her belly and slapping her face. Nothing too bad I suppose.

ronshar · 08/05/2009 12:47

Oh my how do you deal with sibling jealousy that extreme?
MM is there nasty intent? (I cant spell maliscious- see) It may well be just over enthusiastic. DD1 is always over bearing, now DD2 is getting as bad. I spend all day saying/shouting, get out of his face!

Marthasmama · 08/05/2009 12:53

He is just getting over excited with her. He gets really upset when I point out that he's hurt her or scared her. He loves her to bits but yes I spend all day saying be careful! There is certainly no malicious intent. I think the MIL dealt with DH by ignoring him completely and becoming totally wrapped up in SIL. They openly admit that SIL is their favourite

star6 · 08/05/2009 13:04

hats off to those with more than one. Don't think I could manage it.
When do babies start taking just one nap instead of two - and when is it? With 2, it's morning and afternoon, so is it midday they would take their 1 nap? and does it just happen one day that they aren't tired until then? Sorry for sounding thick here, just someone asked me the other day if Q was still on 2 or down to 1 nap yet... I was like, ????

ronshar · 08/05/2009 13:05

Sounds like Dh family. He has 2 younger sisters. He was way pushed out. A lonley soul underneath the grumps.

heather1980 · 08/05/2009 13:09

dd was about 11-12 months before she was down to 1 nap she used to sleep 2-4 then about 20 months she stopped napping altogether.

star6 · 08/05/2009 13:10

oh thank goodness we can get through the summer on 2 naps

ronshar · 08/05/2009 13:10

I was thinking about that very thing this morning Star.
DD1 dropped daytime naps completely by the age of 1. But then she was walking at 8 months and still thinks she is a 25 year old now. She is 9.
DD2 was still having at least 1 nap up until she was 18months ish, but I find that the older they are if they have a nap then they really struggle to go to bed at 7pm. DD2 had a 15 min power nap yesterday while I unloaded the shopping from the car. Little monkey did 90mins of squad gymnastics and still didnt sleep until after 8pm. Normally she is out cold by 7.05pm.
I am a absolute believer in 11-12 hours of sleep per night for a happy child.

Marthasmama · 08/05/2009 13:18

Day time nap? What's that then? Actually M does nap in the day on me which is why I'm on here so much during the day. When ds or dh are home, she will not nap in the day. DS was still on three naps at 7 months went down to two at 8 when he started sleeping through the night and was down to one nap at 12months.

Ronshar - The thing I can't understand is that, yes the SIL is lovely but DH has been very good to his parents. They seem to think the sun shines out of her arse. Anything you've done, she's done better, particularly when it comes to poor DH. It really winds me up. DH is used to it, but I get really angry about it. SIL lives in the States now and the PIL have been considering moving out there. The FIL actually said to my dad 'Oh yes, if SIL stays out there we'll go over eventually. Nothing to stay in the UK for. We'll be much happier being near SIL and her husband.' DS heard this and got really upset for ages. He kept saying that the PIL didn't love him. I'm so glad my parents don't have a favourite. Sometimes DB is favourite because I've pissed them off, sometimes the other way round! I am trying really hard to be fair to ds so he doesn't feel like DH did.

Marthasmama · 08/05/2009 13:20

Oooo long rant, sorry 'bout that.

Yes 11-12 hours is an absolute must or ds is evil!

Jojay · 08/05/2009 13:27

Star - DS1 went down to one nap at about 15 motnhs iirc. He's 2.6 now and will still have a good 2 hrs after lunch, though he can make it through the day without one if necessary.

I think it'll be a while before Ed is down to two naps - my boys seem to need their naps - lucky me!

ronshar · 08/05/2009 13:38

MIL moved to France a few years ago. We helped drive her stuff, helped clean build a fence to keep the dog in, visited loads. All she was worried aqbout was that SIL 1 was too skint to come down (lazy more like), SIL2 was too scared to get on a plane. We took her brat son mind you and they phoned him constantly winding him up and saying he could come home if he wanted too!! What a 6year old on a plane on his own. I wasnt cutting my holiday short for a child who is so spoilt he gets stroppy when told off by a grownup!

Enough. You cant pick your family. I must stop moaning

Marthasmama · 08/05/2009 13:42

Oh but I do enjoy a good rant about the in-laws.

ronshar · 08/05/2009 13:52

When I am really pissed off with DH I always trot out the line if you dont stop drinking/smoking/do some exercise/less stree/do more with the kids etc, you will end up like your dad. Unfortunately FIL passed fromm massive MI when DD1 was baby. He was separated from MIl and living alone. Horrible and I know DH really doesnt want to end up like that.
I am horrible I know. That could be why DH agreed with DD1 when she said I was horrible bitch

ronshar · 08/05/2009 13:54

Bugger I am looking at the Tommys website to try and get a guaranteed place for marathon 2010. You have to raise £2500 minimum. What. That is loads.

Marthasmama · 08/05/2009 14:10

I do the same to my DH. His dad is an alcoholic but the whole family laugh it off. The man used to drink 4 bottles of whisky a week! He got slaughtered at a Christening. A christening ffs! Is £2500 loads for doing a Marathon? Is there another charity you could run for? Cat's Protection League?

ronshar · 08/05/2009 15:02

It is loads when you are lazy.
Are you saying I am a smelly old lady

Marthasmama · 08/05/2009 15:07

Of course not , I just don't understand it as a charity. They're cats ffs! 'shall I raise money to help protect abused children or cats? Hmmmm cats are so fluffy, cats it is.' One of my friends listed Cat's Protection League as one of her top five charities she supports on FB. Just drown them in bags!

RedElsie · 08/05/2009 15:12

Hello all, have enjoyed reading your posts and hope it's ok if i join in? I have one son - Daniel - born 8th October and have learnt lots from you already. He is just trying solids, would be sleeping through but for his eczema - poor thing scratches himself half the night and the sad thing is its only on his face and neck so he can look a sight in the mornings!!.

I've probably found you a bit late because this is the last day of my 7 and 1/2 month mat leave!! However, I will try and keep popping in. Nice to meet you all

Marthasmama · 08/05/2009 15:18

Hello Red and aw man, bummer that you missed having us around! DS, now nearly 6, had terrible eczema on his face when he was this age and was fine by 12 months. It usually clears up when they have eczema this young.

jenwa · 08/05/2009 16:41

tutting at MM for wanting to drown cats! You are not an animal lover I see

rhian at the burying his sister!

csws see what you mean re bottles /breast. I do however think that they each take what they need bottle or breast and if BF on demand they would generally make up for what a FF baby gets in a day or more maybe. IUSWIM I have always been stricker in times with mine, never really did the feeding on demand just tried to stick with 3-4 hourly feeds and hoped they would get enough to last until next feed, when switched to bottles they appeared to take it in the same time as BF and took the required amount. The obesity thing is strange though, I have heard that but am not too convinced as know alot of BF and FF children and the only obese one was BF and fed every 2 hours with suggestions (from HV) of giving baby rice at 12 weeks as he was always hungry, he is a huge boy now, age 5 and in 8-9 clothes .

I just buy whatever yoghurts on offer never really been told about the sugar! Just got sainsburys own as they were cheaper.

Welcome red and congrats on your little boy. He is born the same day as my DD1 who is 3. DD2 is 26th Oct. Poor you having to go back to work, keep posting when you can though, this thread goes so quickly!
