We do food separately to milk too. food when we are eating, milk in between. Do those of you also doing this, esp those bf, give any kind of drink with the food? If so, what and how?

CSWS - I don't but feel I should and was wondering how I go about it too!

jenwa · 02/05/2009 21:52

Hi All
You have all been busy chatting again

Had curry last night but was well peed off as DH went out to get it at 7:20 and returned at 9:30 after going to the pub with his bro and telling me how it took along time for food to be ready

had busy day out today and got christening tomorrow so hopefully Monday will be a rest

Off for bath now, am wearing a skirt tomorrow so need to shave my legs and get sorted. Got some well funky shoes from new look so am excited to wear them tomorrow too. Had sad am I!

CSWS- Not bf but I've brought a cup and have started giving ds water with his food. He pulls a face when he drinks it and to be honest I don't think he likes it that much yet but I think at the very least he might like to wash out his mouth after eating iykwim.

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/05/2009 22:01

ah, sounds like we're all in a similar position then. Ds sometimes gets offered water in a doidy cup, but he takes it and then spits it out.

I really need to find a way to get him to drink something well from a cup, as want night out in a month which will mean going out at 5 or 6 pm.

RachieW · 02/05/2009 22:04

I'm hoping that persistance will beat resistance and that if I keep offering the cup one day he'll happily accept it

I tried some watered down apple juice in a cup but like the rest of your babies, she spat it out. I have resigned myself to staying home until M is off the boob! She won't settle for anyone other than me or my mum and won't let anyone hold her other than me, dh or my mum. Fussy? M? Never

RachieW · 02/05/2009 22:09

Myjob- I don't think you're getting it wrong, I think it's whatever it works for your baby. Jack has always been a pain with bottles, sometimes I struggle to feed him so it's easier to give him a gap between solids as he'll be more accepting of his milk!

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/05/2009 22:11

no you're not getting it wrong myob. I sometimes do too, but ds is eating so well now and I don't want him as reliant on boob as dd.

RachieW · 02/05/2009 22:15

Off to bed too now- night all. Hope the dcs sleep well

Marthasmama · 02/05/2009 22:16

Myjob - Don't worry, you're not doing it wrong! How can you be when N's growing so well? It's probably a good idea as she will be taking a nice bit of foremilk and having a good drink. The most important thing is that she is still getting milk which she clearly is. It doesn't matter when, my routine is different as it suits me that way!

I know what your DH means when it comes to certain alternative therapies CSWS but acupuncture has been around for centuries and look how healthy the Chinese are! But I totally understand the financial side, the first consultation was £55!

Rachie that's why I'm giving her solids mid-milk because of AK but I can't see why not just go for food and then milk after for a drink?

I'm off to bed anyway, just popped in the study on my way to bed. The bathroom was forfeited for a glass of wine and a butchers with DH at the photos of Poppy eating. We both had to stop the video of her eating yesterday as it's so obvious now that she's really struggling to not be sick Still, we know now.

Night all!

Honeymoonmummy · 02/05/2009 22:28

Oh just refreshed and realised I'd missed loads! Re water, I think I read recently on Kellymom that you shouldn't give more than 2oz in 24 hours at this stage, but don't quote me! Will try to find the link tmrw, remind me.

Marthasmama · 02/05/2009 22:32

Hmm - Aww bless her, but don't beat yourself up. You're learning too don't forget.

Ekka · 02/05/2009 22:38

CSWS - I have given M a little expressed milk from a doidy cup and he sometimes quite enjoys it, so I'm going to try and introduce water in a couple of weeks or so, when he's a bit better at drinking from it. I'm hoping the fact he's got used to having milk from it may make him more open to trying the water

Myjob, I remember with dd I was very careful to give her half her feed then solids then the other half, until she was about 7-8 months, but with ds he isn't in the 3-hourly feed routine that dd was and we have to cope with her as well so he just gets food when we're ready! I tend to give him milk before solids, but that is more to do with my hang-ups about my kids getting dehydrated, than any right or wrong (I get awful migraines if I don't have enough to drink so am paranoid about making sure both dcs get enough to drink as well )

HMM - another sweet potato devotee here! Ds had an interesting day of food today - not much breakfast and we had to eat out for lunch today so he got a bit of mashed swede which he hated . So then we had a bbq for tea and gave him the sweet potato that I'd intended to give him for lunch - he got so excited! We all got covered though as he tends to show his excitement by blowing huge spraying raspberries which cover everyone within range!

If you do like gadgets and want to do steaming etc, there is the beaba babycook which dh got me when we started weaning dd. I was sceptical, but it actually has had a lot of use.

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/05/2009 22:57
