Seeing as LadyT broke the thread...

OP posts:

poisondwarf · 16/04/2009 14:25

Aaaargh! I was looking forward to putting my feet up with a film as DD & I have the house to ourselves but can I find the flippin remote? Almost tempted to start an AIBU about toenails to keep me occupied...

spot I hear you on the quiche front. I am such a sucker for BOGOFs and the like but with quiche my resolve needs to be steely indeed. Take a deep breath and repeat after me: It's. Just. Not. That. Nice. Still catches me out though, especially for picnics. Mmm, maybe I'll start an AIBU about quiche instead... Thanks for the compliment about DS, I will give him a big smacker when I see him (just after I've boxed his ears for hiding the remote).

Verso · 16/04/2009 14:32

I had a very mysterious call this morning from my health visitor, where she seemed to know exactly what was going on in my life. Seeing as someone I know IRL "reported" me to her before (having read this thread she was worried about me) I think the same thing happened again. It was very weird.

Anyway, just to say I won't post here again under this name, if at all. Thank you all for your support and well wishes. One day I'm sure I'll be able to look back and realise things have got better.

Much love to all.

Indith · 16/04/2009 14:37

Gosh verso that is scary. If someone you know IRL is reading this, and obviously cares about you (hence talking ot your HV to presumably help you to get help) then why on earth not talk to you first?

I'm so sorry it makes you feel like you can't post here. I really hope to see you back under a new name, though I suppose any talk about your woes will alert the reader. Oi! person reading this about Verso, stop reporting her! MN is a support network, if you scare people away then they lost a very valuable place to let of steam and get support!

Verso all the best to you, I really hope you get some support, sleep and get things on track.

Kayzr · 16/04/2009 14:41

Verso That is disgusting!!! Go away person reading and reporting Verso!! I hope you will be back soon, we'll all miss you!!

Tilly I lost 6lb doing the fast track last week so it really works.

I think I must have done my calculations wrong when I weighed DS2 as he is 15lb 2oz now. DS1 is 28lb 10oz!

LadyThompson · 16/04/2009 14:48

If anyone is reading this to check up on Verso, please note: there is a very real difference between snooping and support. Learn the difference. You have just deprived someone of a valuable support network and a place where she could privately let off steam. You are a fucking nitwit, and not, I am afraid, a friend.

Sorry to those who don't like bad language, but I am annoyed.

On a lighter note, I am a quiche lover.

poisondwarf · 16/04/2009 14:55

Verso are you positive it was from here? I'm sure you'll know from exactly what the hv said but is there any possibility that it could it perhaps have been closer to home (I'm thinking of your altercation yesterday) or even someone at the hospital? It would be such a shame to stop posting here if you find it a good place to vent and a source of comfort. On the other hand I can totally understand not wanting to feel like you are being spied on - I would hate to think anyone I know outside MN was reading my posts and it's not as if I even post particularly personal stuff. However, at least somebody cares about you enough to seek help on your behalf - that's got to mean something.

Whatever the answer, I hope the hv was able to offer you some support. Hope to see you back here at some point soon in whatever guise - you know you will be welcome any time. I really hope things are going to get better for you soon and that you get the help you need.

Take care.

EffiePerine · 16/04/2009 15:06

Oh Verso, I'm sorry you feell ike that. Can you not post and think sod 'em? I'm sure your hv is wanting to help and not judge. Anyway, am around on email and FB

Turns out we are packing ourselves and moving next wed - eek! Have ordered boxes. Burying head in sand till they aarive. DH is trying to sort out broadband (obv the most important bit )

Women writers: I'm the opposite, am not a big fan of many male novelists. But I don't see why anyone should read books they don't enjoy. If you were claiming women couldn't write important/enjoyable books that would be different

Toenails: go through phases. Currently in what DH lovingly terms my painted harlot phase. Suspect he considers it a little common which of course makes me get out my pinkest/sparkliest polish and slap it on . Would recommend loreal titanium which has remarkable staying power. In 2 minds over polish on fingernails, I have huge hands and diddly nails and think it may look a bit ridiculous.

Tilly: your DS2 is NOT fat. I get commednts as well (ds2 on 75th centile) but tend to shrug them off. Plump/slim/big/little babies all gorgeous IMO. DS1 was on the 91st centile and had many chins, he's still on the large side but I would never consider him fat!

My mum has just rung me!!! Her best friend is pregnant!!!!!!!! Her DD is my age and has a 4yo!! So she will have a little brother or sister younger than her DS. It is so cool as they had her and then never concieved again despite 4 ivf treatments. So they never used protection and she told my mum today that she is 16 weeks!!!

poisondwarf · 16/04/2009 15:20

Blimey kayz how old is your mum's mate? So the DS will be the new LO's nephew?

Oh that reminds me - don't think I've mentioned it on here before but I recently found out I have become a great aunty. So that should cheer you up on your birthday LadyT.

LadyThompson · 16/04/2009 15:24

A Great Aunt, hm? Sounds like something from Noel Coward.

I am working the Babs Cartland look anyway.

Congrats to your Mum's mate though Kayz...

Kayzr · 16/04/2009 15:45

She is 45. Yes the DS will the new los nephew. I'm so excited.

poisondwarf · 16/04/2009 15:48

Yeah, Noel Coward sounds better than Jeremy Kyle.

Babs Cartland indeed! Actually misread that as "working on the Babs Cartland book" for a mo there - blimey I thought, is there no end to this woman's talent?

pmk1 · 16/04/2009 15:49

45 wow!!!!
Verso

What about that "private" group we started? Can we post on there??

poisondwarf · 16/04/2009 15:51

45 eh? Amazing - I love to hear about older women having babies. Makes me feel like I could have a whole football team if I wanted (well 5-a-side maybe).

LadyThompson · 16/04/2009 16:41

Yeah, I mean, look at Cherie Blair.

Oh. Hang on, DON'T...

As for Barbara Cartland, don't joke. People probably ARE working on the new Barbara Cartland book. I bought DD some collected Mr Men Stories yesterday (Roger Hargreaves RIP) only to discover they were 'new' stories written by some panel of moneygrabbing fakers new authors who had licensed the characters. Mind you, that's disingenuous of me actually. Because I license a dead author's characters in my job. But, hey, messing with the Mr Men....

EffiePerine · 16/04/2009 16:44

Have emailed the Dec contacts round again - if you don't get it let me know!

Kays: my grandma had her 3rd in her 40s (my mum was 18), as she thought she had had her ovaries removed .

My slashthrough never flippin' well works. Gah. Ruins all me gags.

EffiePerine · 16/04/2009 16:47

and yes I do occasionally read the tabloid mags. I have no idea who most of the people are and am always puzzled by the inevitable mix of SO FAT and TOO SKINNY and the inevitable article on the 1000 stone mum who is living on benefits and wants weight reduction surgery (I'm sure they ,make most of these up). Friend's sis used to edit OK mag. Random thought. Nice woman.

Kayzr · 16/04/2009 17:32

Just back from WW. I have lost half a pound!! Not much but a loss all the same.

JamInMyWellies · 16/04/2009 17:33

Hi all

popping on as I just saw verso's news am very and for you. The private group on FB would be a good place to keep up.

What have I missed quiche loving jeremy kyle harlots with red toenails.

Off to catch up properly.

My email changed can you add me again

julie orr 75 @ googlemail . com (without the spaces)

artichokes · 16/04/2009 20:08

I have just caught up and an soooo about Verso's "friend". You silly fool, did you really think you were being supportive and helpful? Really? If so you did not think about it very carefully did you?

Have had a long day of house hunting, viewing, discussing, deciding, undeciding, re-deciding, offering, being rejected.... I shall sum it up by saying we are not going to risk the girls' future for a nice lawn and hand fitted kitchen! We have found a sensible alternative but they have not accepted our offer yet.

I need to go and eat dinner now but I can't leave before making a face at those of you who dislike female authors! My two favourite books are written by women (Middlemarch and Gone with the Wind (quite a combo I admit)). I also love Margaret Atwood and Rose Tremain and Pat Barker. Infact I love too many to mention. However, I also quite like OK and Hello! I used to heart Heat but feel it has lost its sense of self-irony (or did I used to imagine that?).

EffiePerine · 16/04/2009 20:15

arti: am also a a big fan of Margaret Attwood, loved the Robber Bride and Cat's Eye . For some reason I can't bring myself to read Gone With the Wind. Poss cos it looks a but long and also because it has so many fans...

Another very person about Verso's 'friend'. Not only have they denied Verso a place to rant, but there is now a hole in our basket and we have one less pair of ears to listen to our tales. As new Mum, I really valued Verso's experience and experiences (as I do from all the 'old hands') and that is now missing. Grrr

Kayz well done, considering you thought you might have gained weight this week, 1/2 lb off is fab

On toenails, I am incredibly vain about my feet - I'll happily go out without make up or having brushed my hair, but must always have varnished tootsies - even when I've got them covered with socks and shoes! That was the worst thing about the third trimester, not being able to reach them anymore to keep them nice (but at least I couldn't see them looking grotty either!)

Can I just shamelessly boast for a minute? This morning I went to the butchers for some chicken (I love going to the butchers, as he always calls me Mrs ZJ, which makes me feel important, if a little like my MIL). I just wanted a couple of pieces, but he sold me a whole chicken as it's cheaper, and then jointed it for me and gave me the carcass too. So I have made 2 chicken pies today (one for the freezer), have 2 breasts in the freezer and have just got the stock out of the oven, which smells amazing. I am such a domestic godess today
