Seeing as LadyT broke the thread...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Veggiemummy · 16/04/2009 11:35

What's wrong with wearing sandals?

jumpjockey · 16/04/2009 11:39

Oh dear Kayz, just went and looked at 'that' thread too... [steam]

well dd stayed awake until 3.30 and I could't go to sleep for ages for fear that she'd wake up again, and she was then woken up by dh's alarm clock at 6.45 so I'm afraid I did the "thrust the baby at father" thing and said I couldn't do another 12 hour shift on the back of less than 3 hours sleep. Then she wouldn't go back to sleep, lay attached to boob from 8 until 10 [yikes] and got cross if I tried to replace nip with finger or her own thumb. The being awake thing, I really shouldn't be cross with her but she's doing that excited with the world yelping and shrieking thing (makes me think of a dinosaur from Jurassic Park!) which is just so loud when she's a foot away. Earplugs block out the little snuffles but not this...!

LadyT proper happy birthday wishes to you now that it's daylight!

verso get that night nurse asap. It's your money, your sleep and your sanity. Yes, your DH has an illness that makes life hard, but he can't use that as an excuse to put all the parenting and breadwinning responsiblity on your shoulders - it's a partnership. LadyT (as ever) speaks wisdom...

everyone else, as always I'm going to have to catch up later, the tyrant calls

LadyThompson · 16/04/2009 11:46

Veggie - nothing. Nothing at ALL - if you have the feet of E. Hurley in one of her Beachwear shoots. I have the feet of Bilbo Baggins and to make matters worse I have just dyed the soles of my feet orange with fake tan.

If you are wondering how I did that, buy one of the sprays and see how effectively the fine mist settles on the bathroom floor....

pmk1 · 16/04/2009 12:00

LOL Lady I've done that - I've also turned cream bathmats orange I was wondering about fake tans etc as I can never get any of them to work well and with my up coming trip home, there'll be pools etc and swimwear needing to be donned so i'm thinking aboiut going in for one of those magic tans, which I did before my wedding however I'm a bit scared of a situation ala Ross on Friends since I've never been to one of the UK one's?? I usually just stick to the holiday Skin one's in Summer if at all....

Veggiemummy · 16/04/2009 12:22

Pmk a friend of mine uses a cream that you apply every day and slowly over a week it kind of tans your skin. The st tropez are good but after a few days as it's coming off your skin looks a bit dirty. I have to say when I first started going home looking pasty I used to get payed out on but now at 36 I look more 32ish while my friends at home look more like 45 than in some cases 30.

So I shouldn't look at the homebirth thread. I'm quite proud of my birth but I'm not particularly millitant about it. I wish every women could have the birth I had but I know it's not for everyone. I went to a homebirth group recently to tell my birth stories and some of the ladies were lovely but had quite strong personalities so I'm sure there will be some of those types flying the flag for home birthing.

Again why are non of us judging how each other gave birth?

Veggiemummy · 16/04/2009 12:25

Lady I can't stop giggling about your feet. Which reminds me I need to do my nails, I'm quite against wearing sandals with naked toenails. Guess I don't quite fit the homebirth stereotype of nude nails in Jesus jivers.

pmk1 · 16/04/2009 12:38

Veggie yes that's what the "Holiday skin" is that I use.... only thing that really works for me. I notice the same thing with my Aussie friends - aging quick in all that glorious sun. I fried myself when I was younger and did some damage to my decoltage area which I had laser treatment on which was quite a waste of money but they did the whole uv light thing and fortunately I would bake when younger with a hat on and therefore my face escaped but I got to see the results of sun damage on my chest and arms (not nice) now it's faking it all the way for me

poisondwarf · 16/04/2009 12:42

Now you see Veggie I am quite flummoxed by anything other than naked toenails. Makeup I can see the point of. Nice hair I can see the point of. Even fake tan I can see the point of. But painted toenails? Nope, somebody's going to have to explain that one. DS goes mad for them though. This is what he had to say about my mum's:

very pretty
very beautiful
very shiny
very brilliant
very gorgeous

I think he's going to be a poet. Either that or a womaniser.

zoejeanne · 16/04/2009 12:50

Just read that homebirth thread, I'm sure a lot of people out there are deliberately inflammatory. I'm often tempted to post a thread in AIBU 'to assume that if you've posted here, then the answer is yes' (apologies to anyone who has posted there) - it seems to be that even if your dilemma is entirely reasonable, there is always someone who will disagree with you and put a MN curse on you for it. Kayz I'm glad you saw that BBC article, I saw it on the news yesterday and thought of you and your wish to have any future DC's at home

Spot it seems to be 2 steps forward and 1 step back again for little T, poor little man. I'm sure he'll be chattering away again soon. In the meantime, look after yourself as well, as you'll still be pretty drained yourself from the bug

DD is fast asleep right now . She's in good spirits, considering she can't breathe through her nose and has a face covered in snot. We spent an hour in the steamy bathroom this morning, playing - she loved, I sweated buckets so probably stink now! Right, going to do some jobs while she rests

pmk1 · 16/04/2009 12:56

Poison lol at your I ds comments!
I like to paint toes in summer... amazing how much better it makes you feel (if you like that sort of thing ) it's a must for open toed shoes
Mind you, after my chopping board being dropped on my foot accident during pregnancy, my 2nd toenail still only half grown back

Kayzr · 16/04/2009 12:59

I think it is just the way the article was written and the posts of some people. I couldn't careless how all of us in this thread gave birth be it at home, in hospital, natural or be CS. Surely all that matters is that our los are healthy and well looked after.

I've been very naughty and got the GF book about contented sleep. Just to see if it will get DS2 out of his 5am waking and only drinking about 10mls before nodding off again.

spotofcheerfulness · 16/04/2009 13:14

Ooh, Kayz, can you share the secret if you discover it please?! It's such a pain to make up bottles in the middle of the night only for them to take such a small amount. Would be a big bonus if you managed to start BFing again, I really miss being able to lean over and just feed quickly, also stopped him waking up as much.
That's so cute about your DS, Poison, I can just imagine him saying it. I remember the first time he met T and said "hello lovely little baby Thomas" or words to that effect and I was smitten .
On the painted toenails front (I love how we go from "important literature we like" to naked tootsies in less than a page) - I agree they look nice (and as mine are all horny and 'orrible mine should be painted over) but always seem to fall into the can't be arsed category of doing myself up.
Glad to hear DD is happy despite her snottery, Zoe, and thanks for asking after T, I'm just impatient to have my little smiler back but need to accept that these things take time...
Can someone tell me why I keep buying loads of quiche (2 for 3 quid at Tesco right now) when I barely eat the stuff and it's overloading my freezer? Must be cos I had a homebirth...
PMK, that holiday skin stuff is great, I think they've made it less smelly now, the first time they brought it out I used to go to bed after putting it on and DP would wake up in the morning and accuse me of eating cheese in bed pvernight...

tillyfernackerpants · 16/04/2009 13:21

Ok, going to stay away from the homebirth thread! Every woman should be able to give birth how she chooses & at the end of the day, is really only a tiny part of having a baby!

I always paint my toenails as well, it hides how horrible they are!

Been to the playgroup this morning & people are starting to have me a bit worried about ds2. All I've had is 'he's so big, he looks about 6/7mo old', 'he's really chunky isn't he'! Silly me is now starting to panic that he is fat, I'm trying to be rational & think well even if he is too big, I can't really put him on a diet! Why can't people just say how lovely he is?!

Kayzr · 16/04/2009 13:23

Oh Tilly(nearly called you Ros then) I get it all the time too. I just don't see why people can't say "awwww he is adorable"

tillyfernackerpants · 16/04/2009 13:25

poison I will let you know if we do go to the museum, sounds like ds1 would love it!

spot & kayz when the ds's wake, are they definitely hungry? I've found ds2 does wake up but just wants a bit of a pat or cuddle & settles down again. He's now getting to the stage where he can settle himself the majority of the time.

On the male/female thing, I do prefer female singers and its probably 50/50 on the writers!

spotofcheerfulness · 16/04/2009 13:27

Tilly, I got this with T (well, until his recent bug where he's lost loads of weight) - then I get the well meaning comments of "well, as soon as he's able to walk he will burn it all off" like I need to get a pedometer onto him or anything! T actually eats quite a bit less than the tins recommend and is big on it. The others are probably just jealous. Why have one thigh when you can have five, I say

pmk1 · 16/04/2009 13:30

Spot yeah they have improved it - i couldn't use it before it was so bad... now it is apparently less streaky too...
You'll notice I never get in on the "important literature" conversations not surprising the only books i've read in the past year are "What to expect the first year" (which I've only read through months 1&2) and "Marley & Me" (currently) aside from that it's Hello magazine {blush]
I just nearly cracked my head on a glass coffee table in an attempt to do sit-ups on a balance ball Best go back to my book!

Kayzr · 16/04/2009 13:30

Well he cries and cries like he does during the day when he is hungry. I have tried giving him the dummy when he wakes but he tends to just spit it out.

Indith · 16/04/2009 13:31

Verso you are not a bad mother. You are a good mother who just happens to be a normal human being and is crumbling from having no support. Yes your dh has needs but he has to accept that unless you have support you will not be able to provide for his needs in addition to those of your children.

Happy Birthday LadyT. Am attempting to change my vision of you into that of an orange footed podgy woman but I'm failing. You shall have to remain a well dressed, perfectly made up socialite and mother I'm afraid

Have never used fake tan. Am afraid of it, and make up, and most girlish things we are supposed to use.

Hope the lurgies are improving for mums and children alike.

dd has a snotty nose today. Snufflebabe at the ready!

LadyThompson · 16/04/2009 13:41

Now PMK, I won't heard a word said against Hello, OK (tackier but personally I prefer it) or Heat (mind you, Heat has gone to the dogs since the new editor took over). DP thinks I am rotting my brain with these publications but seeing as I can answer many of the questions on The Book Quiz on BBC4 and he has answered one all series, I think he can shut his piehole

My Mum buys all the really bad ones like Reveal and Now and I gorge on them when I see her. Have any of you seen the one called Love It! I remember the first issue of that. The cover story was, I seem to recall, 'Raped by my Dad!' (obviously awful, and tragic, but looked funny just underneath 'LOVE IT!' in bright pink letters). I think that is the magazine for people who, in times gone by, would have gone to wacth executions.

Ah, but you gotta love OK.

LadyThompson · 16/04/2009 13:45

And I was in it once, right at the back, in the round up of all the really bad, insignificant parties that people who go to the opening of a gas bill attend

But that was in TDBOF. The Days Before Orange Feet.

Indith · 16/04/2009 13:46

gah, phone went and dd woke up while typing so of course I posted and am now behind. Dd currently feeding so am left hANded and slow.

Dd also gets called big for her age etc and she is bf so not like I'm overdoing it! Anyway blubber is useful, she was fine swimming yesterday but ds who is a skinny shrimp was frozen!

The HB article is ill informed and stupid and makes the writer sound like she has a big chip on her shoulder. at the NCT making women feel bad over bf etc. When are we goinf to learn that it is not about making people who have sections, bottle feeds etc feel bad it is about making sure all women have the info to make an informed, educated choice? So long as a mother has made an informed choice about her care then she should be able to give birth how she wants without other people acusing her of being spoiled or too push to push etc. So long as pg lady becomes lady with baby in a safe environment then who cares?

That is not well written, but dd's bum has gone splat so you'll just have to try to make sense of it!

tillyfernackerpants · 16/04/2009 13:46

ladyt I gorge on those magazines when we go to the softplay

kayz ahh ok, I just wondered if he was waking out of habit rather than being hungry. Btw, good luck with WW tonight. I'm doing the fast start this week so 18pts a day, which meant no cake for me at playgroup! I think my body is in shock at having proper food at set times of the day

katie3677 · 16/04/2009 13:55

Oooh I love Love It, Reveal and all of those truly unintellectually stimulating reads. It's the paper version of Jeremy Kyle, which Iactually don'tlike as itremindsmetoo much of DH's family and yes I would be the kind of person who would have watched executions .
DH didn't read a 'proper' book until he was in his late twenties and now complains that I only read utter trash, but having studied literature for so long I think it is my god given right. Plus the fact that I work in pr, and 'have' to check whether any of my clients have been mentioned in these magazines .
The docs was useful in telling me what I already knew. DS has a chest infection and I have a nasty virus that is going around.
I am going to try and rally myself to go out tonight. Seems such a waste to have booked a babysitter and organised it all otherwise. Think I may be giving the cheerfulness a miss though until I feel a bit more human. Right, must go and do the work I have been putting off all week...snore.

LadyThompson · 16/04/2009 14:10

It's not the people I mind on Jeremy Kyle, I think it's the ethos of the tv producers exploiting 'em that I object to...Haven't seen it since I had DD though, it depressed me too much!

Indith, I am with you re: HB piece. HB ain't for me but I wholeheartedly support the right of others to have them without being derided. Quite a few people on here seem to have had great ones. I was born at home! My Mum thinks homebirths are the bees' pyjamas. And her mascara is even more carefully applied than mine.
