Seeing as LadyT broke the thread...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
spotofcheerfulness · 30/04/2009 23:54

I pushed it back by half an hour tonight and he's just gone down, fingers crossed he'll go a bit longer. Have tried dummy before but he only tends to accept it to help him sleep with a full tummy, not instead of. I tried offering water and all other sorts of capers like that a while ago but ended up getting up several times and he'd get upset so have taken the path of least resistance. Am off to my mum's for 3 nights tomorrow and she can look after him in the day while I nap so can maybe tinker around with the routines a bit more. Will experiment and let you know. Night all.

pmk1 · 01/05/2009 00:22

Spot - hopefully you are asleep now, but, what size teats are you using? I switched up to the medium flow (despite partially BF still) and it's working a lot better. He was getting frustrated on the slow flow and spitting out and playing with the teat when he got fed up.
I also pushed the last feed back after LadyT's suggestion and providing he's got no wind and is full he goes from about 1130-6. he is always starving in the morning and BF's from both sides without messing around and playing silly buggers!
I'm still not packed! sleep now though - luckily a late flight!

spotofcheerfulness · 01/05/2009 07:38

Happy packing, PMK - hope you have a great trip.
Well, T woke up at 4 rather than 3.30 which is a bonus! May try 11.30 tonight. Thing is, I guess he's likely to wake in the night while he's still having so little first thing, so was thinking maybe I should wait until he naturally wakes up (which may be 2am) then hopefully he'd go throgh til 6 and be hungry then. Then maybe he'd eat more?
He's on Dr Browns bottles, so no. 2 size teats but maybe should look into other types.
I too better pack, not v much looking forward to the drive with him on my own - last time we drove down the M11 with the vacuum noise on full blast, not v v restful!
Have great weekends everyone.

tillyfernackerpants · 01/05/2009 07:56

pmk have a great holiday!

spot hope you have a lovely time at your mum's & get some rest. One thing Bisou suggested to me was to gradually reduce the amount ds2 has overnight, then increase by the same amount during the day. But it sounds like he did ok last night

Jump have my fingers crossed for your sis today

Can I have a little whingy moment please? Dh did night duty last night, I went in this morning to get ds2 & dh was moaning about tired he was, ds2 didn't have a great night dh needs more sleep & isn't sure how he's going to cope at work today blah blah. I'm just grr that he offers to do these nights then spends the rest of the day moaning. I can't help feeling he's trying to make me feel guilty enough to say not to bother! Anyway as I said, grrr.

spotofcheerfulness · 01/05/2009 08:05

V familiar, Tilly, i get the same. Nowt to be done, I fear .
Well, another boring food update but T absolutely not interested in eating anything this morning (and I mean anything, refuses point blank to open mouth) and only had 50ml at 4am. But even on the four nights he's slept through in his life, he's not been hungry when he woke either. I guess I could cut back on his late night feed but he's always hungry for it and I would assume he's wake earlier if I did that. Maybe some babies are just not morning eaters? .

tillyfernackerpants · 01/05/2009 08:32

Spot, oh well . I refuse to give in though & started to ignore him a la ds1's tantrums .

Thinking about T's feeds, do you give him a bottle as soon as he wakes up? I wonder if he just needs a bit if time to come round & would drink his milk a little later?

artichokes · 01/05/2009 08:36

Spot - DD1 never fed well in the morning. Even now she refuses breakfast and will hapily not eat until lunchtime. I find it extraordinary as she has dinner at 5.30pm so sometimes goes without food for 18 hours! She does pack it in for the remaining 6 hours though. I guess that like us they all have their foibles. TBH I can't face breakfast 'til I have been up for at least an hour and a half.

Trace - I was thinking about your holiday dilema. What about the Cotswolds? Not too far to drive. Stunning walks. Gorgeous villages to potter about. Things for kids to do (like the safari park where LadtT's DD ignored the lemurs). You could even get to Stratford for a daytrip.

spotofcheerfulness · 01/05/2009 08:44

Still not eating. I often leave it an hour and a half, Tilly, but just doesn't want it. You could be right, Arti, and he just doesn't want to eat until later, but does that mean he will always want middle of night feed?
No idea why this bothers me so much, but I guess I think he'd nap better if his tummy was full!

LadyThompson · 01/05/2009 08:48

I think probably some babies aren't morning eaters, Spot. It sounds like he is getting enough during the day though. If he has only had 50 ml in the night and is not bothered now, I definitely wouldn't cut down on the late night feed. I used to have to feed O at 4 too (even after feeding her at 11.30 or 12) but after I made bigger feeds last thing (on the offchance that she would take it) she ditched the 4am feed. ANYWAY, just hope you get some rest. Sorry you and Tilly have been having that 'tiredness competition' thing with the blokes. I think blokes assume that one can sleep in the day but I never could, and there's no time anyway!

Have a super hol PMK! Didn't realise it was this soon! I'm off to London in a minute, meeting a friend who is over from Antwerp. Tbh I really fancy a quiet day at home. I am always overcommitting myself and I always say I am not going to do it again but I ALWAYS do. Groan.

Veggiemummy · 01/05/2009 09:38

Morning ladies, still Swine flu here or should I call it Influenza A (H1N1). The WHO changed the name because apparently the pigs are getting bad press. Egypt apparently slaughtered all their 330,000 pigs.

Lady will get DH to copy the DVD over the weekend and send it early next week. I probably should have spelt it 'ranga, it's what the kid, I think his name is Judah, the naughty kid, calls red heads, as in Orangutan - 'ranga.

Anyway willing ds2 to stay asleep longer while I have my coffee. But he is making noises.

traceface · 01/05/2009 10:16

morning all.
veggie sorry you're still snotty hope you feel better soon. I had a buxom bosom this morning because P did weird gaps with her feeds! She fed at 5.30, 6.30 then went to bed as usual but woke up at 8 beside herself, so I fed her, then same again at 9.30 - completely in a rage so I feed her again, then she slept till 2.30, fed, then slept till 7.30 - at which point I looked like someone from a carry on film with my big bazookas - and thought of you and your rack!

Well I'm sitting here with a knot in my tummy. Very sorry for the TMI which is about to come out...(skip if this is too gross) - I went for a number 2 this morning and something large popped out . It's kind of sprout size - I pushed it back in my bum and it's stayed in. Don't know if it's a bigggggggg haemorrhoid or some kind of weird prolapse thing. Have rung to speak to the lovely lady doc I saw yesterday and am now sweating waiting for her to ring. The receptionist said the duty doc was a man today so he would ring, and when I said I'd really rather talk to a female she said she couldnd't guarantee it. She asked what it was about {shock] so I said it's personal. Am pooing my pants now. Not literally - alhtough if I did my innards may fall out again. I'm so embarrassed. Why oh why did I choose a VBAC. If there is a tracefacebaby3 it is going to be a c-section.

Nolda · 01/05/2009 11:20

Sorry haven't got time to catch up properly but just wanted to say try not to worry too much Trace. I hope the lady doctor gives you a call soon. Sounds like a big haemorrhoid to me but I'm no expert. Thinking of you.

Kimberly1979 · 01/05/2009 11:50

spot & Tilly My schedule is pretty flex but DS usually has a 7oz bottle at 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm and then another one at 9pm before he goes to bed. He usually doesn't drink all of the bottle at the 9pm feed. I've also started giving him a little bit of rice cereal or pureed fruit after the 10am bottle. He seemed to still be hungry but wasn't really interested in more milk. He usually sleeps through the night and starts waking up around 5:45ish. I feed at 6 and he goes back down and sleeps until 8:30-9am. For naps I usually try and get him to go down about an hour and a half after he's eaten and he'll usually nap anywhere from 30mins - 2 hours. His longest nap is usually in the afternoon after the 2pm feed. BUT... the past few days have been all out of whack. Not sure if it's because he got shots on Tuesday or if he's starting to teeth. He's been crying all day and waking up at odd times during the night. He pretty much cried all day yesterday. Not really sure what's going on with him. :/

jump DS finally did a poo! It only took him 5 days! He had a big smile on his face afterwards!

famous people I've met... No big A listers...
When I used to wait tables, I waited on Stephen Curtis Chapman and his family.
When I was younger my friend and I had a huge crush on Jonathan Brandis so we wrote him a letter and he called my house! Which was totally cool!
I saw Bonnie Wright (Ginnie Weasley in Harry Potter) in Top Shop. I was going to go talk to her and then decided not to make a big scene. But I did run through the store to find DH to tell him I'd seen her.
A lady who did some acupuncture treatments for me is married to a guy who used to be a guitarist for The Culture Club.
I think that's it... DH on the other hand had the opportunity to make some extra cash one summer and met tons of musicians by setting up concert equipment. He met the guys from Seether, Staind, 30 Second to Mars and a few others. I was a bit jealous of him meeting Jared Leto! I have a bit of a crush on him!!

Kimberly1979 · 01/05/2009 12:26

trace I really hope the lady doc calls you back. I can't believe the receptionist asked you what it was about!! Hopefully they got the hint and will allow you to speak to the lady doc instead of the male one.

veggie sorry to hear you are under the weather. Funny you should mention Egypt. I was actually thinking about all the poor pigs this morning.

traceface · 01/05/2009 12:34

still waiting for the call...

Spot I was thinking about you and the feeding thing - I can't add anything about routines and sleeping (you don't want to copy me and end up with T sleeping as unpredictably as P!!!) - but do remember that he is still recovering from a very nasty tummy upset and that he may take some time to get back on track. It's great to hear from other FFers but try not to compare too much because his poor tummy has been through a lot so he will perhaps take a little longer to take the different amounts.

Veggiemummy · 01/05/2009 13:06

Trace I think unfortunately it's the pressure of holding the baby that mess up your piping (both systems) as much as the final push. However I think you should gather as much info as possible to make the docs see that a CS is better next time.

Bloody receptionist it's non of her business.

traceface · 01/05/2009 13:07

well nice Mrs Doctor has just rung me. She reckons it's a big haemorrhoid but has asked me to go in an have her do a rectal examination. aaaaaaaaaaaaaagh. Don't want to don't want to don't want to don't want to don't want to don't want to don't want to don't want to
need chocolate right now.

daisydora · 01/05/2009 13:20

Trace Poor you love! I hope it snot painful for you. The Dr will sort it buts its far from pleasnt having your bits fiddled with day after day!

spot I wish I had some advice for you re:Feeds & sleep but DS is all over the show most days/nights so I know nowt! But am hoping you can get some rest. Like veggie says he may just be struggling to settle after all his sickness.

Well DS off at a tangent again last night. Fast asleep by 7pm, woke at 10pm had a quick feed and then slept till 5am No idea what I did different but I can guarantee tonight will be another story.

daisydora · 01/05/2009 13:28

Gosh my typing is shocking in that last post!Apologies!!!

Veggiemummy · 01/05/2009 13:49

Oh Trace that's just horrid, I hope your DH is grateful for what you have to go through to produce his children!

Veggiemummy · 01/05/2009 14:49

Ds2 is currently sleeping to the combined baby noise download, the babbling brook noise wasn't keeping him more than 30 mins, but so far he has been asleep nearly an hour.

Veggiemummy · 01/05/2009 15:51

Over an hour and fourty five minutes! I think he may have gone longer but I was worried something had happened to him to keep him quiet so long and I think I woke him up. Thank you so much Spot, I just thought I produced children who only for 30 mins during the day. He is such a happy little thing but has been a bit grizzly lately which I put down to feeling under the weather but I wonder if he has just been feeling sleepy!!!! Hooray for the White noise website!

waitinggirl · 01/05/2009 16:04

white noise rules! we have restful rain which induces sleep. today about 1.5 hours -during the day, but normally only 45 mins. we also have it on looped at night - fabulous - am going to have to have it as a permanent feature for myself, let alone dd.

what a lovely day! i have pil staying, so no doubt some tuppence anecdotes to come. i am already fed up of questions beginning "do you think she's... cold/hungry/straining/scared/you name it" as a way of saying "i think she's cold/hungry etc".

isn't it amazing how we interpret our babies according to ourselves? dd was with mil as pil started up the lawn mower - dd always gives a bit of a jump but is really interested in it. but this time, in mil's arms, mil said "oh look, she wants to run away she's so scared". BOLLOCKS.

must go

spotofcheerfulness · 01/05/2009 16:25

yay Veg, glad to be of service. I managed to get 1h45 mins down the M11 with the hoover on full blast so it's def useful for some things!
Trace, you poor poor thing, hope you get some proper treatment fast.
WG the whole passive "do you think" thing really annoys me too, it's so British and mealy mouthed. Pah! Hope you and little Tuppence survive the weekend...
Thanks for sharing your routines, I think you're right that T is still a bit all over the shop and his cough is still really bad, but he's never wanted to eat in the morning - maybe just one of them babies!

waitinggirl · 01/05/2009 16:41

jj and spot - i'll fb you about meeting up. anyone else want to participate in a n london meet, let me know. we could do finsbury park for a picnic or the cafe if the weather is inclement. it is good for the cambridge girls.
