Seeing as LadyT broke the thread...

Well done, Arti, that's fabulous news! M has done well for me in the past, so I hope he remembers how much better it feels to be well slept.

He's snoring away now. Bit of a pity I am about to disrupt him to take him off to nusery!

waitinggirl · 29/04/2009 07:40

pmk - can i ask what a swim seat is? in fact, can you be my summer holiday guru as we will be going to portugal in june where it will be roasting and i'm going to have to buy all these things. great list of ppl in the skies - glad you had a good amy winehouse experience.

sybil - the mind boggles at your job - any clues? and sorry for the night.

arti - SO impressed with jason donovan! and the sleep, of course.

madam here woke only once last night - first time in about 3 weeks, so am feeling pretty chipper.

re: famous people lists... due to my and dh's job and circle of friends there are quite a few actors and comedians. have also been at a posh party with dirk bogarde and jeremy irons. i did once sit next to pat cash on a flight - he was stinky! but i would also like to register a john sargeant connection - i have also been to parties wiht js and met him a couple of times. shall we try to see if we can get a connection to js with everyone on the thread? maybe we could be the john sargeant girls??? six degrees of john sargeant, anyone?

spotofcheerfulness · 29/04/2009 07:42

Oh Sybs, sorry about your terrible night, it seems to be so utterly random doesn't it? I was up all night thanks to T's cough and he kindly seems to be sharing it with me . V impressed by your local seleb list, where do you live? I used to meet quite a few at work as I worked for a well known TV magazine but for years it was having interviewed Margaret THatcher when I was 12. She came to visit Ely Cathedral and I had a press pass thanks to writing for the Early Times (anyone remember that?!), I went up to her with my notepad and she said "would you like an autograph?" and reached for the pad, I snatched it away and said "no thanks, but I do have some questions for you".
Precocious brat.
Arti, that is fab news on N's mega sleep, am v pleased for you! Esp after your run of shockers. Am also impressed by your snogging JD, that puts you on a par with Kylie!
PMK, I just ordered a bikini from figleaves.com, they've got some nice ones, they arrive quickly and you can send them back easily (and it's free) if they don't fit.
I know we may have been here before, but if you could humour me - how many people do the waking the bub before they go to bed/dreamfeed? I've always woken T at 10.30 (a la she who must not be named) but as he then wakes at 3 but then isn't hungry for his morning feed, I wondered if I didn't wake him and he woke at, say, 1am, he could then sleep til 6ish and be hungry then?
Of course there's nothing stopping me trying it but I am strangely fearful. I'm sure someone v wise said the other day that you can try changing the routine and if it doesn't work go back to it, so guess I should just try.

waitinggirl · 29/04/2009 07:49

spot - completely understand about the fearfulness - i find any change in madam's routine makes me so so tense. but go for it - as they say, you can only try and then go back if necessary. although a friend did recommend that if you are going to try something new, you have to commit to doing it for a minimum of 3 days in a row - that way it can go all pear shaped hte first time, get better the second, and see if it works properly the third. if it still isn't working, well then you've given it your best shot.

LOVING the maggie anecdote!

we tried to give madam a bottle last night - she took about 10 mls before throwing a shit fit (understandably, i suppose) and reverting to boob. but my, it made me so unhappy - seeing the bottle in her mouth and i have to confess to feeling a bit worried that she might start to prefer the bottle to me. it's all irrational, i know.

jumpjockey · 29/04/2009 07:53

morning all

spot it was the eternally sage veggie who mentioned changing routines.

re famous people, I've met Christopher Biggins and the blonde lady from the old philadelphia adverts as a friend runs a coffee shop next to the arts theatre in cam where the panto is every year! Also Phil the Greek asked me where I got my shirt from when he and the missus came to visit my college. Other than that, I knoow ae big in the world of Renaissance polyphony, but that doesn' really count as famous outside a very small circle!

arti yay! that's amazing

wg swim seat is like a rubber ring with a slingy bit so bubs can sit floating happily with their legs in the water.

dd had the womwomwom again last night and her first waking wasn't til 1.30 though i really think there must be a growth spurt going on, she's hungry all the time and is currently latching on to my arm so probably time for second breakfast... hoping to get to baby cinema with sl so catch up later (that's become my catchphrase

daisydora · 29/04/2009 08:02

Just a quickie DS slept four hourly yay!!! I went to bed at 9pm as I was feeling a bit ill last night. Anyway felling a bit better so it must be down to lack os sleep! And ....night 3 he took 6oz of EBM from the bottle!

Quick confession tried DS with some mush carrot yesterday. He was quite disgusted with what I was feeding him and spat out the one spoon that made it near his mouth and refused to open his mouth for another 20 mins. So needless to say I gave up. He's quite clearly not ready I knew he wasn't (and he's 5mths now) but I did feel a bit of pressure to 'try'. I will not be trying again until I think its right for him. So Trace & SL just ignore all those helpful advice types! Your babies and you'll know when. I'm actually with myself for giving in.

I work in Manchester so have come across most of the Corrie cast/footballing types at some point. I once had a drink at a bar in Liverpool with Boy George whilst waiting for a friend - he was quite nice. I also met the lead singer from the Stereophonics years ago before they were famous after a gig. I told him they weren't really my cup of tea A career in the music industry cleary not for me!!!

tillyfernackerpants · 29/04/2009 08:18

daisy & arti yay on the good nights!

sybil sympathies, hope you manage to get some rest tonight.

Dh had duty last night & I actually got a full night's sleep. Though I do feel horribly guilty for not having heard ds2 at all, apparently he woke up quite a bit . I guess knowing I didn't have to wake up meant I switched off entirely!

Am loving the celeb moments! I forgot I did also meet Paula Danziger, she was lots of fun!

With the weaning, ds2 looks very interested & keeps trying to grab food if we eat whilst holding him but I am going to try & hold off for another month. I am hopeful it will help with his sleeping which is just getting worse but know it will be unlikely!

Kayzr · 29/04/2009 08:32

Morning,

Daisy and Arti Yay for sleep!!! DS2 slept from 10 til 7 so very good here!!

Tilly DS2 is always grabbing for food. Not sure if he knows that it is food though as he shoves everything he gets his hands on in his mouth. He was licking the hoover yesterday!!

On Celebs DH reminded me that while in London last year we saw Ashton Kutcher as there was a film premiere. I have also seen Frank Lampard, he was in a shop in London when I went there with Mum. He is gorgeous!!!

EffiePerine · 29/04/2009 08:37

Spot: glad the doc took you seriously. I remember DS1 taking an inordinate amount of time to get over a serious tummy bug (and he was a bit older), I'd think he was fine but a touch of milk or something else that didn't agree with him and he'd be off again.

Sybs: that sounds like a grim night. A 2 hr waking one for us again, and DS2 only stayed in his crib till 12. Hoping to stretch that one out a bit. Similarly to lots of the babes, he's stopped settling properly at bedtime and is waking after 45 mins and refusing to go back to sleep... hoping that sticking with the routine will mean he gets it again eventually. He's changing so much at the minute, trying to sit up and look about (and pinch DS1's toys).

Thanks for all the advice, am necking bicarb in water (yuck) and will get some more cranberry juice in. Read up a bit and realised I was supposed to be avoiding sugar, caffeine and citrus (oops).

Must get DS1 out before he explodes - shopping for a potty and some plants for the garden. Oh and sunscreen - forgot we didn't have any and DS1 is getting a bit of a tan . Hope good days appear all round

OP posts:
Nolda · 29/04/2009 09:08

Sorry you had a bad night Sybil.

I'm enjoying the celeb chat. Very impressed that you snogged JD Arti. I haven't met anyone glamorous but in my first job I did meet Michael Tippett, Trevor Pinnock and Barry Douglas.

Enjoy the shopping Effie. The first potty - another big step moment .

Veggiemummy · 29/04/2009 09:41

Ooooohhhhhhpoooedonagain!!!! Need coffee. Gonna put White noise on with itouch so will have to wait til ds2 awake to properly catch up hopefully that will be hours!

spotofcheerfulness · 29/04/2009 10:05

My sis just texted to say she's had a scan and everything looks fine and she's due 3 Dec .

waitinggirl · 29/04/2009 10:14

spot - fantastic, miraculous news. so so pleased!!!
nolda - no offence, but who???

Nolda · 29/04/2009 10:29

WG Perhaps a bit too renaissance polyphony for you? MT composer, TP conductor, BD pianist.

Veggiemummy · 29/04/2009 10:39

Hooray Dec 09 baby has she joined that thread. So excited for her!

Well White noise is on and so far has been asleep about 45 mins which is the longest for 3 days, but this is the time he used to wake up so let's see if he goes longer. I have itouch back as DH downloaded the long one and put it on the iPod.

Very impressed by Arti's JD snog, and a good Aussie one at that, we are practically related now.

I did remember a couple of famous people children I looked after but I don't think I'm allowed to say, one was a footballer and one was a musician, not that interesting though. I also remembered and it's not that interesting because I'm sure everyone has seen her, but have seen the Queen several times the last time when she came to St katherine docks to have tea with the king of Norway, and as she drove away she did not wave to ds1 and I her subjects (I omitted loyal there sorry any monarchist among you).

PMK they do have swimwear in Australia for children, and don't forget it's getting cooler over there, who am I kidding it is currently 18 degrees and going into winter!!! It's warmer than here. We have some friends who have moved out of their flat and renting a bigger house as their son is getting bigger. They were complaining because the heating isn't very good and they don't know how they will cope in winter. They thought we would be amazed as they had to cope with temperatures dropping to wait for it 13degrees overnight.

spotofcheerfulness · 29/04/2009 10:52

veg, out of curiosity, which particular white goods machine did you select?

Veggiemummy · 29/04/2009 11:12

I went for the straight White noise one, he slept for an hour and 20 mins by the way. But I'd really like a rain sounds one (sans thunder & pan pipes) have found a gurgling stream one that DH has pilferred from a hypnotists website.

Veggiemummy · 29/04/2009 11:20

Daisy there is nothing wrong with doing a feasibility study, but I would tell the wean pushers that you tried it out because some of them will be of the 'babies don't know what they want' and 'you just have to shove it past the gag reflex' variety.

daisydora · 29/04/2009 11:44

Veggie You are right in fact there are a couple of people who I can't wait to tell that DS IS NOT ready for weaning In fact one of them said to me when she first visited after he was born that 'he'll never wait till 6 months he's such a big boy' (he was only 8lb 8). I now say 'bollocks, I have norks of steel and my boy is doing just fine thanks!'

spotofcheerfulness · 29/04/2009 12:04

Really don't know what I'd do without hoover noise, T is turning into a right stroppy toddler, refusing food, getting overtired and then not going for his naps as usual, am sure it's cos he's a bit off colour but am feeling a bit impatient with him at the mo (and then guilty for my impatience).
LOL at your norks of steel Daisy, makes you sound like one of those fembots from Austin Powers!

tillyfernackerpants · 29/04/2009 12:04

Daisy, I've been told the same things! lol @ norks of steel!

Veggiemummy · 29/04/2009 12:42

LOL at steely norks Daisy. I've no idea why people think that if you have a big baby it can't live on milk alone for 6 months???? It really baffles me.

Oh and Spot something just occurred to me a friends baby had a really bad case of the squites and then was diagnosed as dairy intolerent but is ok on dairy now. Apparently a really bad gastric episode can make anyone babies & adults dairy intolerant temporarily. For like 3-6 months I think.

I've still got these stomach cramps, has anyone else got them.

Veggiemummy · 29/04/2009 13:19

Ds2 has just gone off to sleep to the sounds of a bubbling brook do we'll see how long this sleep lasts.

Also bad mother for laughing at her baby alert. I watching ds2 on his playmat earlier, he had managed to pick up his dummy and was attempting to put it in his mouth. After trying to shove it up his nose several times and squishing it into his chin he finally managed to get it into his mouth only to pull it back out again as he didn't releas his grip when he pulled his hand away. He was so frustrated he let out a huge wail. Poor little pumpkin.

tillyfernackerpants · 29/04/2009 13:51

Veggie, I've also laughed at ds2's attempts to get his dummy in his mouth!

I forgot ds2's jabs again . It was just as we were passing the gp's I suddenly remembered. The nurse fitted us in though so at least they're over & done with. I do have a unhappy ds2 now though, can't say I blame him with 3 jabs

tillyfernackerpants · 29/04/2009 13:52

just reread my post, veggie I meant that I laugh at my ds2 not yours!
