Veggiemummy · 28/04/2009 17:02

Oh and Kayz I love having DH around when he's working from home but the house is so much tidied and I'm so much more organized when he's not here.

artichokes · 28/04/2009 17:34

Veggie I am very glad your mastitis cleared without ABs, that is really brilliant. What remedies did you use?

WG - Did you know that Brad Pitt was originally going to play the Croew character in State of Play? He dropped out because he did not like the way they developed the script. I know this because in summer 2006 I was in Washington DC with work and we had a meeting with the Editor of the Washington Post. He was at the Post all those years aho when it broke the Watergate affair. Anyway, as we went into his office who was coming out but Brad Pitt!!! He had been meeting the Editor as part of his research into the role. I nearly vomited with excitement as ew got introduced - in fact I still go a bit weak remembering it.

Re swimming (to WG again) we use Laura Sevenus classes. With DD1 we did Little Dippers from 9 weeks. I hope you find something near you as it is v sociable to be in a class with other Mums. I am still mates with the Little Dippers gang although we finished classes 18 months ago. Ithink Water Babies and Aqua Tots are similar.

Veggiemummy · 28/04/2009 19:29

Arti I'm going weak at the knees by association wow Brad Pitt, shame you didn't meet him when he was having 'difficulties' with one of his wives.

The remedies are Belladonna & phytolacca. I take them as soon as I notice the symptoms and take them every 2 hours for a day and the 3 times a day til it settle. However I would stress that so far (touch wood) I haven't had the fast onset temperature I think in that case I would go for the ABs. I do think it would be a good idea to see a BF consultant and your GP about the fact that it's recurring. Is there any chance it could be thrush?

We had nachos for tea, I made them as low fat as possible and we all had a little picnic in the living room ate our nachos and watched music videos on music on demand. DS1 has become a bit of a U2 fan and loves the Vertigo film clip and the beautiful day one because it's got airplanes in it. He announced today that he wants to grow his hair over his eye like a rock star.

traceface · 28/04/2009 19:32

Veggie stupid me I hadn't thought of putting my nice top with some nice troosers! I've got some smart black ones which I may be able to fasten round my new even more womanly hip shape! Then I could just but some nice accessories to feel spangly and new for the wedding! And also Veggie can you please tell me again that I'm right to hold off on the weaning?! I feel no urge to start her yet and have no instinct that it's the right time, but the world and his wife is telling me to wean her and that it will make her miraculously sleep through the night. I don't want to - please make me feel better!

traceface · 28/04/2009 19:36

I will buy the accessories, not but them.

So Arti has met Brad Pitt. Yum yum . Can we start a 'who have you met who's famous?' chat? I bet LadyT has met millions! My claim to fame is having met Grotbags after seeing a panto with her in - she signed an autograph for me and wrote "to Brat"!!! And...I appeared on Michaela Strachan's 'But can you do it on TV?' - just in the audience though - and I look less than impressed.

traceface · 28/04/2009 19:41

aw veggie how cute of your ds1! Veggie I was going to ask you about teething granules (you should set up a homeopathic remedies hotline!) - I bought some Teetha ones which say they have chamomilla in.When I rub them on P's gums she loves it and smiles loads. I used it twice yesterday and twice today. The packet says they can have it every 2 hours but I was wondering whether it can do any harm if she's not actually teething? I think she is becasue she's always chomping her hand/ my finger/ any toy/muslin whatever she can thrust in there, and she's quite dribbly, but she doesn't have red cheeks and isn't really out of sorts (except for the extra night wakings!), so is it ok to give it to her even if she's not offically teething? I don't want to overdose her and I know nothing about stuff that's not in the BNF!

EffiePerine · 28/04/2009 19:47

lal: good that you are geting seen soon. I think breast lumps are one of the things the nhs are right onto at the moment, they seem to know what they're doing with appointments and treatment. Thinking of you

Commiserations to the up-all-nighters, I have resorted to bringing DS2 into bed with us but DH is getting spooked by waking up to one of his patented hard stares . DS2 is feeding on my lap at the minute as he woke himself up with hiccups.

Spot: did you get anything of use from the GP? The only thing I can think of is that the tummy bug has made T more sensitive to somethong or other.

I too am feeling all organised, DH was in London today and I registered us all with the GP, took a walk through the woods, went to Tescos (and found a bus back, hurrah) then did some gardening and cleaned the bathroom. Do any of your green-fingered types know what I can plant now which will come up pretty quickly? The soil is good (judging by th juicy weeds I've pulled up) an we have a mix of sunny and shady patches.

TMI alert: thanks to all the rushing about I now have cystitis . Tried the treatment thingies, still hasn't cleared. Anything else I can do, other than remembering to drink lots of water?

EffiePerine · 28/04/2009 19:50

Trace: I'm sure Lu will love being a bridesmaid . Glam accessories sound good, I am hopeless at that kind of thing though. What about some new shoes?

OP posts:
Kayzr · 28/04/2009 20:17

Trace Tell everyone what I told my mum when she said that I didn't have to follow the books and I could wean DS2 now. I said "I know I don't have to follow the books which is why I am weaning when I want. Not when you, MIL, HV, Barack Obama, old lady in co-op or John Lennon thinks I should wean" It made my mum laugh and she hasn't mentioned weaning since!!!

Arti I am very jealous!! I have met Duran Duran and since they are my fave band I managed a few words of gibberish. DS2 makes more sense!!!

jumpjockey · 28/04/2009 20:44

evening all

we have asparagus and jersey royals off the market for tea so I'm feeling full of springlike energy let's see how long that lasts...! have also updated my 'baby diary' with things I love about her at the moment (have been trying to do this every month) such as the fact that today she tried to latch on to my arm, cheek and neck!! first hickey in ages

am feeling very behind on thread, but to sum up - hugs to lal and prayers about your bump scare.

trace hope you feel better for a good cry with the HV.

indith spotted you on the sleep thread, hope we can get some help from the people who;ve survived it!

arti glad you had such a fabby weekend and LadyT sounds like you had fun sur le continong

effie hooray for getting successfully moved

everyone else, hugs to them that needs and smiles for those with good newses.

Nolda · 28/04/2009 20:54

Lal sorry to hear about the lump. I hope you get good news at your appointment.

Effie drink lots of cranberry juice for cystitis. I hope it clears up soon. You can also take paracetamol for the discomfort.

SummerLightning · 28/04/2009 21:17

Hi everyone,
Had a nice day shopping with my friend, bought a couple of things, but nothing too exciting.. Shopping with a baby is bloomin' tiring! Bought some stuff for brother's new baby as well, which is still not here yet (now 3 days overdue)
effie you sound like superwoman, hope cystitis clears up!
trace what is it with the whole world and weaning?! I am always being asked if I'm feeding DS yet. And am going to see the MIL this weekend, joy, so she will be feeding him curry and pies and pints of ale and the such like while I am not looking
I am going to a wedding on Friday trace and am going to be wearing a summery skirt with a top that matches, with reasonably easy boobie access. Trews and nice top sounds like a good plan, plus accessories!
wg sorry you missed totally getting to enjoy the film! Thanks for the review though...I think baby cinema should only show extremely low concentration level films...anything with twists and complicated plot should be banned. Especially as I usually rely on DH to explain things as I forget to concentrate. Hopefully off to the cambridge one to see In The Loop tomorrow.
arti v impressed with the meeting of Brad!
veggie I agree with you re baby yoga, I prefer the baby bits to the adult yoga bits. The teacher was always trying to make me relax and ignore DS in those bits, and I didn't like it! I wanted to do yoga for him not me (I think the teacher thought I was one of those mothers who never ignore their offspring for a second and therefore never get a moment to themselves. She couldn't be more wrong (neglectful mother sometimes here!))
pmk had a giggle at your postie answering near miss! I have done that so many times. I'm sure someone's going to get an eyeful before I finish bfing!
spot I hope poor T gets better soon, and that you get some help at the docs.

lal07 · 28/04/2009 21:23

Oooh Kayz Duran Duran. Although Simon le Bon has definitely gone off.

Am very jealous of actually meeting BP arti - when DS was about 10 days old I was in Fresh and Wild on Brewer St when Brad and Angelina walked in. He was most beautiful thing I've ever seen . Was a bit freaky to be honest - he looked like a being from another planet. I on the other hand was wearing velour jogging bottoms and had unwashed hair and crazy sleep deprived eyes. Mysteriously he didn't stop to chat.

Have had my appointment letter through and it's on 11th. Am still a bit bowled over by efficiency of NHS. And feeling a bit more relaxed about the whole thing. Thanks again for your kind words. Apart from DH you're the only people I've told - and you've been a real comfort.

Effie your day sounds lovely. I used to find that a bath (just with water - no bubbles or anything) sometimes helped. And as Nolda suggested cranberry juice is good.

Spot I hope T is feeling a bit better today. It's really terrible that you're not seeing anyone sooner. Poor little man. Can you try talking it through with another Doctor? Good ones that I've seen take the mother's view on what's wrong very seriously (where as bad ones - still haven't forgiven bow tie wearing eejit who did DD's 6 week check - treat you like your a fantasist if you make any attempt to guess what's going on with your LO). Might it help to keep a diary of what happens that you can show them? Not to give you something else to do, but it might force them to take it a bit more seriously.

Veggie I really hope we get a Thomasland trip sorted - I'd love to meet your DS1. He sounds like such a smasher .

Veggiemummy · 28/04/2009 21:28

2nd the cranberry juice and I love that reply to the weaning worriers. Why o why does everyone want us to feed our babies. BF babies have no need to even look at a soggy mushed up carrot until they are 9months they only say 6 months cos their tongue thrust settles down and they can begin to mess about with food. If I had trusted my instincts with DS1 I would have waited til 9 months to wean him. I think ds2 is going to be easier than ds1 as already he is happy to put anything in his mouth where as ds1 just wanted nips in his gob at 4 months. But I will still wait til he can choose a food and lift it to his mouth before I wean. More than anything for an easy life, who wants to mess about with organising to take weaning food our with them wherever they go in case they are out for lunch.

I met Emma Thompson on the jubilee line, she thought ds1 was gorgeous kept cooing over him and her daughter played with his trains. While working up in Hampstead I saw Frank Skinner, Russell Brand, Jamie Oliver and one of the comedian ladies from Drop the dead donkey. I saw ricky jervais & simon merchant near houses of parliament. I saw the entire Arsenal 2002/2002 Arsenal team while I was in a cafe near Canary Wharf, it's actually the moment I fell in love with them. I also met them again when they did their annual visit to the Royal free paeds ward Patrick Viera made my knees melt, not that good looking but his voice was so deep and accented mmmmm.....

Oh and DS1 was born where loads of celebs have their babies, Thandi Newton, Davina McColl, and a bunch of models.

JollyBear · 28/04/2009 21:28

Just a quick check in to say goodbye as we're away for a few days and I've still loads to do. We have a massive pile of stuff to take and the pram takes up most of the boot. Prob be back next Monday, so have good bank holiday weekends everyone.

trace P is happy and thriving at the moment, I know it must be hard for you with her feeding so regularly but giving her a bit of carrot is not going to provide any more calories than your milk. Don't be bullied into weaning if you don't want to!

spot Stand your ground and be pushywith the drs. Poor T has been struggling with this tummy upset for ages now.

Sorry for not saying more personal hellos, I MUST pack.

Veggiemummy · 28/04/2009 21:41

Lal we should really sort it out...I was going to say now the weathers better

The other person I saw in north London but forgot to say was my absolute fav, Bill Oddie. My brother and I were huge Goodies fans, I desperately wanted to run up to him and say "Bill Oddie stupid name!" but I think he's turned into a bit of a grump these days.

Oh I just had hot toddy to make this fluey feeling a bit better and am feeling a bit pished. Nice....I love you guuuuuuuuyyyyyyyyssssss!

Veggiemummy · 28/04/2009 21:50

Oh and Spot, this is a bit more expensive than a doctor but you could see a homeopath for T. Sounds like the squites really ran him down and he is trying to catch up
but is so susceptible to everything that comes along. Homeopaths are good at helping to support a babies natural healing and also work alongside conventional meds if necessary. That's not to say let the GPs off the hook I would agree to asking to see a GP with paeds experience, many doctors surgeries have a doctor who is good a kids stuff or at worst ask to speak to the practice manager. There is nothing neurotic about a mother wanting to help her child get better. There are GPs out there who would be sympathetic. Of course you could always start weaning

Have a nice trip JB hope you won't need your Mac.

spotofcheerfulness · 28/04/2009 21:57

Evening all (Mr PLod voice), just a quickie from me, saw a really nice doc who said nowt could be done for T's cough and cold (as I suspected) but that his epic squitty bum wasn't right, gave us a pot to send off a poo sample (of course since then he's had the driest of nappies ) and we have an appt with the allergy clinic on Tues. Still can't quite see why they think that as he's on Nutramigen formula which is already hypoallergenic but I think they're working on your theory Effie that the virus has made it hard for his gut to absorb the food for some reason.
Thanks for all asking about him though

spotofcheerfulness · 28/04/2009 21:58

Ooh, X post Veg, that's a good idea, how do I find a reputable one?

tillyfernackerpants · 28/04/2009 21:59

Evening all, just popping on quickly before I head off to bed. Dh is taking night duties tonight so I'm hoping to get a proper night's sleep!

effie sorry to hear about cystitis, I second Nolda's advice

arti Brad Pitt wow!

Trace lol @ Grotbags! I remember her programme with Emu!

veggie how sweet of ds1! Agree with Trace that you should have a homeopathic hotline going.

Trying to think of a claim to fame... oh I know - I have been to Floella Benjamin's house, been in a lift with Mo Mowlem, absolute favourite though was dh & I were in Dublin to watch the rugby & as we were getting cash out the England rugby team appeared on their night out after the match

Anyway, have a good night everyone & see you all tomorrow

tillyfernackerpants · 28/04/2009 22:13

oh no, flu

katie3677 · 28/04/2009 22:24

Just checking in quickly.

Trace H&M have some really nice maxi dresses at the moment, you could wear with a pashmina/ shawl for BF.

My claim to fame is training with the England rugby team in the days that Lawrence Dillalio (sp?) was captain. I had to organise a job swap with Gordon Ramsey and Brian Turner for National Restaurant Week. I didn't actually train with them, just ogled them from the sidelines. I've had a thing about Phil Greening and Joe Worsley ever since. I've also done alot of work with Gordon Ramsay and alot of other 'celeb' chefs. I also pinched Beppe di Marco (from Eastenders) arse at a friends wedding. He was not amused! It doesn't get more glam than that!

Big sleep vibes to those of you requiring them.

Night all x

The amazing non sleeping baby is back! I've been up since 3 and M is still awake 2 hours later. At least he's in his cot just now. Gurgling and looking at his mobile, but still awake. Arse.

Ros, I loved the man flu thing! Very entertaining.

Famous people - I've met quite a few in my job but I can't really say who as I'd get struck off. Non work related, I see quite a few people round here as we are celebtastic. I think I wrote about trying to run Jo Brand over a few months back. Also seen James Nesbitt regularly, lots of people from Holby and Casualty shop at my local Sainsbury's, Huw Edwards(the newsreader) lives opp a friend, also met Sade, Imogen Stubbs, Ralph Fiennes, John Sargeant, Maureen Lipman, Trinny, Grayson Perry and Tamsin Grieg. I am sure LadyT's list will make me look like a mere amateur though.

Right, off ot pretend to sleep to try to kid M to put his head down. Back later. (Prob about 10 mins later when he won't sleep so I can catch up properly)

artichokes · 29/04/2009 07:15

Sorry you had a bad night Syb. Hope you are sleeping now. At least you have an impressive list of celebs!

Can I add to my Brad Pitt encounter? I may have shared this already but I once snogged Jason Donovan in a night club! It was during his least famous years but still I like to boast. Also John Sarjeant came to my wedding (and danced badly).

Can I also just quietly whisper that N slept 11 solid hours without a peep. It was her best night ever. I am in a happy state of shock.
