Better than the grey it was before though!

JamInMyWellies · 21/04/2009 10:09

Hi all,

welcome chopsie.

I really havnet a cat in hells chance of catching up with everyone properly. But I do read almost daily but rarely find the time to post.

All gone to pot here DS1 has entered full on tantrum mode snot flying everywhere and head banging throwing himself to the floor the full shebang He also started nursery last week and spent the entire day clinging to the nursery assistant and saying "Oh no" over and over. God I felt like the worst mummy in the world he goes agan tom lets hope its not so bad.

lachlan also is going through a moment this too will pass this too will pass. He is now waking up to 5 or 6 times a night he has completely lost the nack of self settling cant find his thumb doesnt really want to be feed so we are back to using a dummy.

We have also had some seriously bad news it looks like my baby sister only 28yrs has cervical cancer The poor love is in the middle of a divorce and is moving to San Francisco. She has CIN3 severe her gynae has done a biopsy and she will find out in 2 weeks although he has told her not to be too hopeful.

Now what has been going on with you lot,

Arti so sorry about the mastitis I really hope you can make a decision you are happy with.

Kayz my sister is a midwife she said its the toughest job ever but also an amazing job. She now works in Bradford not delivering anymore she deals with the abnormality side of things.

Veggie hope DS2 is more settled for you today.

Trace cant help you eith the sex thing but I am sure it really shouldnt be hurting still I hope oyur GP can help.

It was lovely reading about everyones easter hols sound like you all had a lot of fun.

Katie numpty parents in law.

PMK that sounds like a lovely afternoon. I heart pubs that do things like that.

LadyT very at the bag. Bags are my downfall could prob pay the mrtgage with what I have in dust bags.

Effie good luck with the packing, I found pack a box have a bar of chocolate routine workd quite well for me.

Poo DS2 awakes must go.

pmk1 · 21/04/2009 10:53

Just read really quickly, but wanted to say Jam so sorry to hear about your little sister's news I hope she gets good news back

Myboylollipop · 21/04/2009 11:10

Jam I am so sad to hear your sad news, this must be so hard on your family but also how difficult will this 2 weeks be for your Dsis. Will be putting a strengthening White light out for her and I'm sure everyone on here will be praying to their respective Gods & Godesses for her.

Ds2 has his third set of imms today. Poor little man 3 jabs! He was so sweet though he still managed to give the nurse a smile between the 2nd & 3rd jab and also as we were saying goodbye! I figure if he's forgiven her he must have forgiven me.

I had other stuff to say but gotta go as Next have gotten my Macs in so need to try them on.

Oh and SL bet you look Fab and Arti how you feeling. ZJ was going to say something to you but can't remember what so will have to reread your post later.

Nolda · 21/04/2009 11:30

Hello and welcome to NJAN and Chopsie.

Arti I hope your mastitis is better -poor you, you haven't had much luck. I hope your offer on the house is accepted.

Daisy sorry to hear about your nan and grandad. Best wishes for speedy recoveries.

Regarding the snip, my DH is going to have this done in June. There was a thread at the end of Jan on Dadsnet: Mens help needed about 'the snip', which we read together and then had a look on the NHS website. I hope your DH comes round to the idea soon.

JJ I loved the photos. I hope DD's cough gets better soon.

Nice to see you back WG. I'm glad you had a good holiday.

Katie sorry to hear about your IL problems and the christening. You have my sympathy as I know what a dampener this can be at family celebrations. My DH's parents divorced nearly 15 years ago but FIL still finds it very hard to be civil to his ex-wife. We nearly had a punch up at our wedding when FIL turned on his brother who, with DH, was trying to restrain him from throttling my MIL. I was fortunately unaware of it happening at the time but needless to say DH found it very upsetting. Good luck with the chickenpox!

LadyT another PG Wodehouse fan here. Eddie used to be known as Bertie (the Bump). I hope you manage to sort the cricket fixtures and book the hotel.

Kayz, good luck with the midwifery course. I think you would make a super midwife.

Jam so very sorry to hear about your sister .

I had a lovely time on Easter Monday when we had an early family celebration for my 40th (fortunately FIL was in France). We went here for lunch. Although we had booked a table in the main restaurant, we were given our own room. The food was fantastic, the weather was lovely and sunny. and the children enjoyed running round outside and looking at the horses between courses. Unfortunately, DS refused to take his bottle so I had to strip off in the ladies to feed him sitting on the loo but otherwise a lovely day.

Anyone want to do my garden? You're making me feel guilty as I've let mine become a bit of a jungle.

daisydora · 21/04/2009 12:52

jam I am so to hear about your sister. I will pray for her and hope her prognosis is better than expected.

DS was a V good boy last night, bed at 7pm, woke at 4am for a feed and then back to sleep till 7.15. Ihave also put a couple of new photos of the big boy on my page. I think he is rather gorgeous (and fat) but I am biased!

kayz my sil is just in the process of applying to be a MW - good luck with it.

Kayzr · 21/04/2009 13:28

Jam I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I hope and pray that she gets good results.

Kayzr · 21/04/2009 13:44

If anyone here has any advice or experiance BF a premature baby could you please look here. A good friend needs some help.

Indith · 21/04/2009 13:50

Jam I'm so sorry for your sister and your family. I hope things are better than they seem at the moment and that you all find the strength and support to get through whatever comes.

Hello Chopsie Where are you? All these wretched Southerners have meet ups, I want some playmates (Well ok the Northern lot met up in York recently I just wasn't quite up to an hour on the train doing damage control with ds!)

Dd still waking every hour. Ho hum.

My garden has tomatoes, turnips, beetroot, radishes, lettuces, spinach and potatoes. Not much in the way of flowers though, just a few bulbs as we are looking to buy somewhere and I can't be arsed to do all the work and spend the money for the landlady's benefit.

Argh! been to baby group this morning so dd slept at odd times and now is refusing to sleep though she needs it. Grr.

EffiePerine · 21/04/2009 17:18

Jam: thinking of you and your sister and hoping for good news. Choc a v good idea, still have easter eggs that have to be eaten before we move

better go...

lal07 · 21/04/2009 17:28

Just saying hello very quickly as have loads to say but no time to type. Aye me.
Jam am so sorry about your sister. And poor you with DS1 at nursery too. Hope he gets on better tomorrow. I don't know if it's an option for you but a friend of mine had almost the same experience so delayed for a bit longer and her DD was right as rain on the 2nd attempt.

Also Daisy glad your GPs are doing a bit better and at inlaws.

More later. Love to all. House of drool here as DD is definitely teething (although like ZJ everyone has been telling me this for weeks).

jumpjockey · 21/04/2009 18:06

oh deary me. As well as the cough (which see,ms to have turned into a sore throat), we now have a tooth was giving dd her teething powder and she turned her head at just the wrong moment so had to sweep up the bits on a finger and put it in, thought "what's that spikey sharp thing? oh my goodness..." she's not a terribly happy bunny atm so hopefully bath will calm her down enough to sleep.

jam so sorry about your sister, will keep her in my prayers

back later hopefully, hello everyone

Nolda · 21/04/2009 18:42

Congratulations on the tooth JJ !

daisydora · 21/04/2009 19:26

A tooth jump well done. I only wish DS would have one appear, at least then all his gripes and moans would be for something. He has slept for the grand total of about an hour today (roughly 3 x 20 mins). He wakes everytime screaming and would not be put down all day. Thankfully a very kind lady walked around with him at Toddler group this afternoon so I could at least have a coffee with both hands free!

Have the dreaded smear tomorrow morning - on both my cervixs for the first time

lal07 · 21/04/2009 19:27

Pt II

Arti I hope you're feeling better. Is tough choice to make. As you know I had recurrent horrible mastitis with DS. It didn't come back after he was about 5 months and I carried on feeding him until he was 11 months - not least because I was petrified of stopping, but also because I liked the closeness etc. With DD I thought about not feeding her at all ( ) not bfding her at all) but decided to start off doing it and see how I got on. Thank God I did because that helped her to get better when she was very tiny and ill (she gave me the infection/I produced antibodies and fed them back to her) Only works in babies under 6 weeks but pretty smart.

Then we started introducing FF at about 2 months, and she's been totally FF for about 3 weeks. I dropped the feeds really slowly. I can completely understand why you'd be worried about bonding and the closeness you have - I know I was. And it is different. I think that bfding is a bridge between pregnancy and your child as an individual - whilst you're still so symbiotic it's a bit like still being pregnant. And that's not the case with FF. So I'd be lying if I said how I feel with DD is the same as it was with DS - but I don't love her any less. It's just physically different. Actually there are big advantages. I'm not worried about being so ill I can't cope. I've got loads more energy, and can leave DD for someone else to feed if I need to - so I get a bit more time with DS or DH. But then it's weird to think I'll never do it again. With DS I cried a lot when I stopped, but this time I haven't, and I think it's because I know it's the right thing for me.

I also think we can get a bit too hung up on how bfding is massively better - yes in lots of ways it is of course - but not to the detriment of the mother's health. And to my mind that means mental sanity as well as physical.

Ok blah over.

Have to rush off again now as my Mum is babysitting and we're going to see some very dear friends. Hurrah. Hello wg nice to have you back and welcome chopsie. And Nolda that place looks lovely. So glad you had a nice time.

Also PG Wodehouse. Marvelous. Literally got me through some of darkest days.

JollyBear · 21/04/2009 19:55

Hello everyone,

jam I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. What dreadful news. I hope she gets the treatment she needs asap and it is sucessful.

JJ Hurray for the tooth! I hope DD is now bathed, calm and fast asleep.

chopsie Hello and welcome. It's great to add another member of the group. It is lovely to have heard from former regular posters on email such as mibbes.

zoe It is hard to tell when teething has started really. I suspected with DD despite it being v early because of the combination of red cheeks, dribbling, biting and getting upset when feeding. She was hungry and would drink v enthusiastically and then break off and howl, settle down and drink again, howl, drink, howl etc. If your DD doesn't seem out of sorts then she is probably just warm and happy!

ladyT Boo that your DP isn't keen on Honoria. I think it is such a lovely name. We have the Jeeves and Wooster box set too, we watch it more often than anything else we own, maybe apart from the film Peter's friends. Can you tell we are big Fry and Laurie fans in the Jollybear household?!

daisy I hope the smears aren't too awful. Poor you having to go through it twice. I hope you convince your DH to get the snip.

I'm making an effort this week to try out some local mums and baby activities. I love having all you lot to talk to (it is a sanity saver!), but I need to pull my socks up make some local mum friends. We've been to a group this morning and we're off to a baby signing class tomorrow. Today was fine, DD enjoyed looking at the other babies and the mums seemed friendly enough. I do find it all v daunting though - it reminds me of work events where you are expected to 'network' . I feel all shy .

notjustanumber · 21/04/2009 20:20

Jam I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. I hope she hears good news soon. Hopefully it was caught early.

SL I'm not on facebook yet, I need to join I think. I'm a bit of a phobe for some reason.

I am also a Wodehouse fan, I have the book boxset. Its great to read when you have kids, as I find I can pick it up and put it down again whenever you want. I'm shamed to admit I also like George McDonald Fraser for the same reason.

LadyT I dont know that side of Brum much, except for some much enoyed visits to Sutton Park when I was a kid. Did you go to Wales for seaside holidays whn you were litte, like every other Brummie ?

JamInMyWellies · 21/04/2009 20:52

Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts today trying to be as optomistic as possible.

JUmp a tooth blimey.

Myboylollipop · 21/04/2009 20:59

Right finally going to have a go at posting after a busy day. The boys are both in bed, ds2 has just woken for a feed (growth spurt central here) I've done my exercise thingy, had my meagre dinner and now watching the game (I've got it on delay kayz currently about 30 mins behind so don't tell me score).

Well I've got my Mac the M did the trick in the end. Also picked up some kind of long shorts things and a new purse. Ds2 has been fine after his jabs quite perky in fact, he's been having his arnica but not needed any paracetamol so far (touches wood for a peaceful night). Next will be Ds1 with his mmr & dtp not looking forward to that one, very different when they're bigger.

Went to gymnastics for DS1 which was cut a little short cos he got a nose bleed but it settled well. Then home for grocery delivery and gardening. I was going to plant beetroot but when digging the row I think I found the cats toilet spot. Little begged despite my best efforts he has been dirtying my patch. I thought he wasn't but this little spot is a bit disturbed and he has def used it so don't think I can. How do you disinfect dirt?

Oh well the slug beer traps (wink wink) are working beautifully, popped some John Smiths out for them tonight. The can has a ping pong ball in it? Is that odd?

Bugger the V box has just randomly rebooted itself, that is so annoying so I've lost my delay!

Oh and I'm Veggie by the way just thought I'd try this name on for a few days.

Bum we are 1-0 up, which is good but I missed the goal.

katie3677 · 21/04/2009 21:37

Evening.
Jam reall ysorry to hear about your sister, I hope it is actually good news after all.

Veggie You've stolen my name! I call DD Lilypop, so was going to have a name change to 'Mygirllilypop', how funny!

JJ congratulations on the tooth!

Can't remember what else I was going to say...
Still ill and throat is agony today, but am feeling about 1% better than I was yesterday so perhaps I am on the mend at last. DS is back at nursery tomorrow, so need to get on with some serious work. Hopefully DD will allow .

Welcome to the newcomers, pull up a pew.

Myboylollipop · 21/04/2009 22:12

Oh katie you have it I might go back to being a Veggie until I think of something better. I just popped it in as it's a song I used to sing to DS1 and just started singing it to ds2. They are as sweet as candy my boys.

LadyThompson · 21/04/2009 22:44

Evening dear old things

Oh Jam - I am crossing everything crossable for your poor sister. She sounds like she is having a rotten time...I am so sorry. Can I tell you, I have typed so many things and they all sounded wrong and I keep rubbing them out, but I am thinking of you and your family anyway. Hope she can stay strong.

Jump - oh my, a tooth already. Golly! What do teething powders do? DD dribbles a lot, chews her fist and sometimes gets a red face but she has been like that ages....

How was the swimming, Arti? And how are you feeling today?

ZJ - you are right, sunhats are incredibly cute...I LOVE DD in hers...

Nolda - that looks a fab place! Mmmm. I think that one's going in my little black book! Yes thanks, I have finally booked a hotel in Rouen for the weekend, AND sorted out most of the fixtures muddle, amidst much huffing and puffing.

Jolly - I think it's just you, me and your DH who like Peter's Friends. I have never known it inspire anything but ire in others Do you watch House? I have never been able to get on with it somehow...What about Kingdom? That seemed quite cosy and watchable...although somehow I didn't watch it.

DaisyD, good luck tomorrow, with your fancy two cervixes! I suppose the plural is cervices!

Where's Turnip? Look, we all know the Easter hols are finished, madam, come out of hiding

NJAN - I loved Sutton Park! Too dangerous to walk around now, apparently...Don't know whether I believe this entirely but not going to take the chance! No, we didn't go to Wales....No offence to Wales, but I think my parents probably concluded that a wet place full of Brummies wasn't much of a hol

Katie, hope you are more than another 1% better tomorrow!

I've got Mad Men on. Heavens, everyone is glam on this. Went for another long walk today. Surely if I just keep walking, the fat will come off...And I am not having any cheerfulness tonight, or much at all. I am drinking the last of my Banoffee herbal tea.

It isn't as much fun.

Also mulling over whether to take my sister and nephew to Badminton horse trials. My littlest nephew is 12 and has always been very shy and awkward and short of friends, and I got him riding lessons two or three years ago and he has become obsessed and never looked back. Seriously, I think that is the best gift I ever got anyone. Anyway, my sister has started riding now too! I have ridden on and off since I was a teenager. Anyone else?

Right, off to do the bottles...

waitinggirl · 21/04/2009 22:53

oh, Jam, thinking about you and your family. it is so so hard, this waiting and wondering and fearing and hoping. been there. lots of love and thoughts.

veggie - i like your previous name. i have such a problem remembering everyone anyway, let alone with hte name changes...

lal - really interesting to hear about bf v ff experiences.

not much here, apart from my dad has come down to visit and has been such a love - really fun, delighted with his granddaughter and just delightful. such a change from the moody tyrant i grew up with - hurrah for retirement. sad in a way that my mum never got to see him this relaxed. but to be honest, if my mum were still alive, he probably wouldn't be that relaxed - they always had a tempestuous relationship. weird to think like that.

saw Turnip at babycinema - can report back she is fine and hasn't been on the thread for a while because of busy easter holidays and techinical difficulties, but she is asking about everyone. sure she will be on soon.

funny, i was trying to explain mumsnet to my dad - he was quite amazed at what it is/what it does/ how much it means to me.

waitinggirl · 21/04/2009 22:56

oh, and bloody hell, how did i forget:

JJ - A TOOTH???????????????????????

ps - can anyone recommend somewhere near stroud for a b&b/cheapish hotel recommendation? have a (dreaded) family reunion there in a month or two and need to book a room somewhere.

pmk1 · 21/04/2009 22:59

Well thought I was on the mend, but today felt awful again, and really cold all afternoon. Nose running again dh came home sick also - great.

I also had no cheerfulness tonight Lady, just a coffee and half an OJ. Good effort with the long walks. How far are you going? I went on a short one today but had no energy and the dog was driving me nuts, so I did a u-ey and went home.

Daisy I have a smear tomorrow too - first thing
I might ask them why i've been sick for over 3 weeks!!

I knew that was you Veggie! Can tell by the way you write!
Hope you're hanging in there Jam

Think I'll change my name again soon but don't worry you'll know who it is.

Must go - am tired, no energy to even put anyone's name in bold!
