Seeing as LadyT broke the thread...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jumpjockey · 20/04/2009 20:47

Evening all. Kayz that photo of DS1 in the sling is hilarious!

LadyT sounds like a lovely spa day. I took my hens to Southwold where we sat on the cannons making crude comments

wg good news about the wedding, I can fully recommend Baby Zara for very cute dresses

veggie sorry to hear about the bedtime troubles, must be very hard to get them both settled at the same time. Have no helpful suggestions but just sending sleepy vibes to them both!

Have uploaded a couple of new pics of dd looking adorable - she's actually awake in these! Cough still there but getting better we hope, tried the steam thing (thanks arti!) so we'll see if that helps.

hello to anyone xposted with...

waitinggirl · 20/04/2009 20:56

JJ - ahhh... love those photos. also stumbled on the one from teh rfh meet up ages ago. did anhyone take any of the meet up in hyde park?

modernlove · 20/04/2009 20:56

Hello.

Sounds like everyone has been enjoying the sun. I have also been planting in the garden and have peas, tomato plants, lettuce and cucumber plant starting to sprout. Did plant some leek, parsnip and carrots but no sign of them yet!

Despite a bad Saturday night with DS - the previous two nights and Sunday - he just woke once for a feed. It was brilliant - although had to go down and express as not used to going six hours between feeds. I put this down to making sure DS has more naps in the day ( I seem to remember someone recommending this earlier on in thread)and he is even going down in the evenings now (we don't know what to do with ourselves!) - he isn't actually self settling (we rock him to sleep) but am sure we'll get there! So typing fast now as he could wake any second and DH trying to sort stuff out for work tomorrw!

Verso - I was outraged to read about your so called friend snooping on here - you would think people had better things to do than spy on people. It makes me feel I should never mention to people that I come on here! Anyway - from above posts it looks like things may have improved slightly?

NJAN - hi - I lurked for ages just like you - am pretty shy too. I then realised I might still be reading the thread in five years time and feel like I know everyone - but no-one would know me - and that thought made me start posting.

Phone and crying DS. Hopefully back later.

daisydora · 20/04/2009 21:01

veggie sympathies re:juggling bedtimes. I hate it when DH is working late its a nightmare tryong to get them both sorted. DS ALWAYS wants a feed just as I am about to get DD's tea out as well.

I put my request to work 2 days in writing today to my manager. When I spoke to her on the phone she never said it wsn't possible but she never sounded that pleased with the idea either, so we'll see.

Am also trying to get DH to have 'the snip' Have promised plenty of sugar if he agrees He is not convinced at all. Neither of us want anymore DC's and he is just being a right soft-arse over the whole thing tbh.

daisydora · 20/04/2009 21:03

jump fab pics!

JollyBear · 20/04/2009 21:10

Hello everyone,

zoe I loved your 'lovely moment' with DD. It is lovely when they are startled or upset and then are reassured because mummy is there

notsure Welcome, draw up a chair! It is nice to know that the thread has been a support to you.

kayz Hope you get on the course, I think you'd be a great midwife.

arti Poor you, it must be a really hard decision to make. Perhaps sitting down to make a list of pros and cons might help. I find it helps to see things written down.

daisy Your poor Nan. How is she now? Is your grandad managing OK?

veggie I did chuckle at your blunder in starbucks!

ladyT Excellent future name for a DD whichever Aunt you choose! I wanted DD to have Honoria as a middle name but DH overruled me. We went through several PG Woodhouse books looking for name inspiration!

It is reasurring to hear that other babies are being unsettled at the moment - it helps to know we are not alone. Bedtime was hard tonight - teeth again I presume.

daisydora · 20/04/2009 21:18

jolly, my nan is doing okay. She managed to text me earlier. So I rang her and she sounds quite upbeat. I'm hoping to get to see her at the weekend. Grandad is missing her and finding it hard but everyone is ralling around. I'm on duty on Wednesday to visit. So am taking lunch and the DC's to cheer him up

BTW we gave 2.5ml of Calpol at bedtime DS was really grizzly and you could have fried eggs on his cheeks, bless.

Chopsie · 20/04/2009 21:21

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to MN and as my ds was born in December I came searching for comparisons...he really doesn't sleep well but the baby groups I go to seem to have babies who are (apparently) wonderful sleepers. After reading this thread I now know I'm not alone! Thanks for making me feel better!

daisydora · 20/04/2009 21:23

Pull up chair chopsie you are certainly not alone!

LadyThompson · 20/04/2009 21:25

Ooh Jolly, I love Honoria as well. After earlier chat I was inspired to put my Jeeves and Wooster box set on (all my books are in London) and it was the one where Bertie is supposed to be marrying Honoria Glossop. I said to DP "Oooh, what do you think about Honoria?" I am afraid his reply was not repeatable...

Daisy, re the snip - most men aren't keen, are they? The whole contraception thing is a drag. I do NOT want to get caught out whilst I am still this fat - no more babies until I shed the blubber. Hmm. Do you think he will come round?

Jump - those pics are gorgeous...

Modern, another set of green fingers!

NJAN, I don't know that part of town too well - I am from the North East side - Great Barr/Sutton Coldfield - but my Mum and sister still live there so I go often. The Bullring is great - now - there's a big fat Selfridges for a kick off!

WG - I think we forgot pics in Hyde Park. Whoops...

traceface · 20/04/2009 21:34

hello Chopsie! Glad you've found some reassurance here! We've discovered that all our babies are so different and are doing their thing in their own good time I also go to a baby group where all the other babies seem to sleep 7-7 and my little Phoebe still wakes 3 or 4 times a night. But hey ho - she's happy and healthy so that's good enough for me . Hope you stay around and join us here when you can.

Just ate half an Easter egg to replenish my chocolate blood level.

Veggie - how now? Did dd2's ear get any betetr? Do you think he has an infection? Hope he's settling now. Jolly hope dd gets some rest and relief from those troublesome teeth.

arti - how's the boob (again - poor you ) I guess BF has to come to an end at some point. I was thinking today that I'll really have to stop to go back to work and it made me sad to think about it so I can see why this is so hard for you. DO the docs know why you keep getting it? Is it just one of those things?

Am going to see the GP about the S.E.X. thing. I need to go back about my hip which is getting worse, not better, so will mention it then but I already have The Fear! I want to try again with dh to check it still hurts but am scared to because I'm quite sure it will. doh.

Have got a pal coming round tomorrow whose baby was born on the same day as Phoebe but she lives in London so I've never seen her dd before. I'm very excited! I bet her girl sleeps through

katie3677 · 20/04/2009 21:37

Evenin' all.
Yep my IL's are a PITA and I wasn't at all surprised by the behaviour yesterday, but thought that MIL might at least get over it for the sake of her Granddaughter, but obviously not. I'm not sure about having BiL as a Godfather now, but I haven't yet heard the full story about why he was beaten up by a bouncer, so will reserve judgement until I know more. I told you my IL's were like an episode of Jeremy Kyle!
Went to see the nurse today and she has given me some antibiotics, but I seem to feel even worse than before, and now have swollen glands to boot. I remember this happening years ago on the same antibiotics, so not sure if I should keep taking them or not.
On a happier note, DD found her giggle today and it made me cry it was so sweet. So far she reserves it for her brother, which is lovely as it makes him feel extra special.

Tomorrow I'm taking the DC's to see some friends of ours who's DS currently has chicken pox in the hope that mine might catch it. Not actually sure that this is the right thing to do, but I guess we need to get it over and done with. Has naybody else deliberately infected their DC's?
Right, off to bed as I'm totally knackered out. Really hope that I wake feeling a bit more normal tomorrow. Night all

pmk1 · 20/04/2009 21:42

Ooh yeah, we did forget to take pics in Hyde Park didn't we! I had my camera too - bugger - However my dh in lycra we don't need as hard copy of!

Big welcome Chopsie where do you live?

daisydora · 20/04/2009 21:46

ladyt Yes I think he will come around...I had really high BP on the pill prior to having DD and DS so I don't want to be on it for any length of time, and DH knows this. I think he's just taking his time getting used to the idea. Which is fair enough.

katie I 'deliberately' exposed DD to chicken pox. But she never caught it. My sister has exposed one of her boys to it several times - he also has never caught it. She now believes he has a super immune systwm

Chopsie · 20/04/2009 22:02

pmk1 I live in the north east - miles from any of you by the looks of it!

katie my ds giggled properly for the first time today too - gorgeous!

LadyThompson · 20/04/2009 22:14

Katie, I had it at 16 and I caught it from my 22 year old sister and both of us were quite bad with it. I think it's probably better to have it as a kid.

Chopsie - our Indith lives in the North East so you aren't alone!

Right, supposed to be going to France at the weekend. I need to book us a hotel. It sounds crackers but I can't look forward to it properly as I haven't finished sorting out the cricket fixtures and I need to get us a last minute one for Sunday, and it's all a bit stressful...

SummerLightning · 20/04/2009 22:39

Hi all,
Am dying my hair so passing a bit of time on the computer while waiting for it to work!

arti sorry about the mastitis. It's a tough one. Never realised til I started BFing that it is lovely and it will be hard to stop, so I get where you are coming from in that respect. But like trace says we will have to stop sooner or later!! I hope you make the right decision for you.

daisy DH asked me what we were going to do for contraception after we had had a second one (assuming we only want 2 which is the current plan). I just made a scissor motion with my hands and he winced and said "no way". But when I said I didn't want to be on the pill for a long period of time again, and he would have to use condoms he sort of came round to the idea slightly. Poor men. They are very squeamish about their meat and 2 veg, particularly when you take into account what happens to womens nether regions with birth etc, the snip is nowt! (disclaimer: I know I had a c-section, so my stomach then!)

katie aww to the giggle.

More PG wodehouse chat. This reminds me of a conversation that DH had in our local pub. i had told him that I had nicked some Evelyn Waugh from my mum cos you guys were talking about it.
He got himslef confused and the conversation went something like this:

DH to mate: That beer over there, it's called summer lightning. That's DW's log in on mumsnet (he still hasn't got the hang of not telling people this). She's named after the beer and the mountain bike trail, but it's also a book by Evelyn Waugh. Evelyn Waughs a bloke I think, stupid name for a bloke (I had taken the piss when he had asked if "she" also wrote Brideshead Revisited)

DH's mate: Hmmm...that's interesting.

Bless.
Must read the PG Wodehouse book.

The local pub has a guest beer on called Spring Zing, I am thinking of a name change.

NJAN are you on the FB group yet? If so we can arrange a meet up through facebook?

RIght this dye has to come off shortly.

SummerLightning · 20/04/2009 23:21

Hmmm..appear to have dyed forehead purple.
Suspect hair may be purple too. It's meant to be brown.

Veggiemummy · 20/04/2009 23:23

Oohh Summer late night colour change, living life on the edge a bit there. I love your DHs pub chat.

PMK DH is doing work for the DVLA or the welsh assembly not sure which I don't think there is much else there, or is the welsh assembly in Cardiff, which is the Capital of Wales, doppy Aussie alert!

Ds2 did finally go off so I was able to read to ds1 (a book about planes) before bed. Poor little man was so tired we just read the one book. All was forgiven for ds2 when he woke for his late night feed around 10pm as I remembered how much I love him as I watched him feed. Then I got all sad for Arti with the decision to make about feeding, and then I got all sad for me that one day it would end and that ds2 will be the last time I will BF. Then I went and watched cold case and made myself cry! Those who are 2nd & 3rd timers do you remember wondering if you could ever love another baby as much as you loved your first? Why did I ever have any doubt!

Anyway enough of that sop veggie gardeners. I've got my runner bean tipped with a couple of stray sweat peas that ds1 started growing at nursery in. I've cauliflower doing well, broad beans sprouting in the bed. Peas due come up a corner pole, brussel sprouts, purple sprouting broccoli just in and some more seedlings coming up soon inside along with zone savoy cabbage. Tomorrow I'm going to plant some beetroot straight into the ground. Oh that reminds me I need to add beer to my ocado order to top up my slug traps, those things are definitely lethal to the slippery little suckers.

Veggiemummy · 20/04/2009 23:25

Summer try wiping it off your forehead with baby wipes it worked for me, with a permanent I used recently.

Veggiemummy · 20/04/2009 23:26

Not sure if it works the same but DH once painted the decking in London with a brown decking paint that was purple when wet but dried brown? Could be the same idea with hair colour.

SummerLightning · 21/04/2009 05:18

I hope so veggie I will have to have a proper look when it's light.
Beer for slug traps - a likely story. Will have to remember that excuse myself

Kayzr · 21/04/2009 08:37

Morning,

DS2 slept through!!!!!!! Well he woke up so I gave him his dummy but still it was better than having to get up to feed him!!!

Chopsie I am in the North Eastish!! Welcome to the thread.

SL I found that nail polish remover worked

Hope everyone is ok. Having a bit of a shitty time as bil is being a pest and saying DH said things I know he hasn't. So I've told him that we are very happy and we don't need them in our lives if they are just going to be petty all the time.

zoejeanne · 21/04/2009 08:59

Good morning everyone, I hope you?ve all had lovely sunny weekends? Good news in the ZJ household ? we?ve finally set up the PC, so when DH goes away and takes his work laptop I won?t be stranded anymore ? hurrah

Lots of lovely Easter holiday stories - WG Italy sounds fab, and Trace what a lovely time you had with your parents .

I was gardening yesterday in the sun (and think I burnt the back of my neck ), well I oiled the garden furniture cause I was too big to do it in the autumn and now my hands look like I?ve smoked 60 a day for most of my life. Have washed them several times in white spirit, which can?t be great I?ve also planted some lettuce seeds, which I hope grow better than the tomato seeds, half of which haven?t grown at all and the other half are looking decidedly wobbly. My garden won?t be winning any prizes this year! Oh, and whilst we were outside I put DD in her sunhat and she looked so so beautiful in it (well the bits of her you could see under it anyway), here?s hoping for a hot hot summer so she can be a cutie for the next few months

Dasiy what a worry about your Gran and Grandad, I wish them both well. I am very impressed at your Gran sending text messages, any Granny who can do that sounds to have a bit of life in her yet

Chopsie welcome. So many people coming out of the shadows at the moment, anyone else in there? come on and join the fun

SL how?s your hair this morning?

Effie the packing is going well, just one more day and then you can start unpacking it all, oh what fun!

Kayz that photo is fab, your DS1 doesn?t look so impressed though! Good luck with the midwifery, I?m sure you?ll be great ? and much needed, as I saw that Yorkshire has the lowest number of midwives

For teethers out there, how do you know when teeth are coming through? Loads of people keep telling me DD is teething (the same people who commented on my size when I was pregnant, her sleeping habits now etc etc, so I?m trying to ignore them) ? she doesn?t seem to be in any discomfort and I can?t feel any lumps in her gums. She does chew her fist a lot, but I think that?s a comfort thing as she?s always done it, and she always gets rosy red cheeks after a good feed. So I?m thinking if she?s like this normally, what signs will I get that teeth are on their way? (or maybe, they?ll all appear painlessly?? I wish! [deluded emoticon]) Oh, and digressing onto sleeping, DD has taken to waking between 10 and 11 now, which she?s never done before (we abandoned the dream feeds because of it), so we?re that club too!

Right, must get showered and dressed. Have a good day everyone

artichokes · 21/04/2009 09:30

Just catching up but quickly wanted to say to Katie that apparantley if you get the pox under the age of one you often only get it mildly and don't build immunity so can get it again (so said my paediatrician friend). Therefore I might avoid deliberate exposure at this point.

I also wanted to say to Veggie that I was v touched that you got sad about my breastfeeding future while feeding your DS.

How is the hair looking summer?

We are off to Battersea zoo for a birthday party on the sun this afternoon. But first DD2 and I are going to our first baby swim lesson. I am slightly worried that she will hate it as she hates her bath but I wanted to try anyway as DD1 loved baby swimming. I have even had my bikini line done in preparation!
