Veggiemummy · 20/04/2009 10:59

Oh and forgot to tell you about a slip of the tongue I had yesterday. After my little run with the family we had starbucks for lunch at the stadium. I treated myself to a skinny muffin after lunch which I was quite excited about as I haven't had a cake with my coffe for a week or two. When the serving guy handed me my muffin instead of saying thanks very much I said thanks very muff he giggled and I ran away very quickly muttering something about being really looking forward to the muffin

Veggiemummy · 20/04/2009 11:12

Katie just saw your post about the christening that is shocking behaviou about your inlaws I bet your DH is upset? Was it a nice day anyway? Who stood as godfather?

tillyfernackerpants · 20/04/2009 11:13

Thanks veggie, will try & get that one as well

jumpjockey · 20/04/2009 11:36

Morning all, sunshine here again hurrah

veggie I have that book too, saw it in a charity shop so it's up there in my ever growing shelf of "books that make me feel I'm doing the right thing" I'm sure lots of other peole would have a completely different bookshelf! We were talking about this at the NCT group on Friday, one of the ladies is an engineer and she finds it really hard because there should be just one scientifically correct answer to all our problems. Whereas as a historian I should want to read both sides of everything then find what in the current sociohistorical climate is the correct interpretation

re muff one of dd's many nicknames is muffin, and like with munchkin I often shorten it, but of course that comes out as muff which is not a good thing to be calling your baby girl in public!!

Katie really glad you had a lovely day at the christening, but what a shame about the ILs. Maybe better in a way that they weren't there if there would have been a scene?

wg sounds like you had a fab trip Hai avuto i buone vacanze e mangiato molti cene deliziose? (I think?!) No such thing as rods for backs, only if you're unhappy with things. That's why I really love the NCSS, says that if you're happy with feeding your nipper to sleep then that's fine, and only if/when you want to change it should you start to worry. Stuff what anyone else thinks frankly. Your house, your rules!

spot we get the teething stuff just from Boots, veggie said that the stronger stuff (or is it weaker? ) you have to get from a homeopath.

hiya kimberley Dublin is beautiful and if it rains, well you just duck into a pub

Effie good luck with the epic packing sounds like you're making great progress

Well DH is off today (and thurs and fri), was meant to be on this diabetic course about how to get best control over his blood sugars etc, booked the time off work ages ago as study leave then it turns out they didn't get him booked on the course after all so he's having some annual leave instead. We were going to take dd for her first swimming lesson but she's got a temp and a horrid cough (never heard her cough before, really heartbreaking as she screws her face up and looks really pained ) and didn't sleep very well, so we've postponed. Time to do some more garden stuff instead. Kayz sounds like you're captain garden! will have to pick your brains over what to plant and when.

Kayzr · 20/04/2009 13:16

Just planted some tomato seeds, more poppies and some more lavender. I've had to tie my sunflowers to stakes as they were starting to bend over. Come in for some lunch now and then got to finish digging out veg patch and then start on the borders. Luckily I found out that digging gives me bonus points on WW!! YAY!!!

Popped into the shop that sells lots of garden stuff and they sell these plastic things that hold the bamboo in place to make a teepee!! I am so excited as I tried to tie it with twine but it kept falling apart.

SummerLightning · 20/04/2009 13:31

Kayz you sound like a master gardener! I have a titchy veggie patch growing salad rocket beetroot and carrot at the mo. Plus herbs. They are all coming through!
We have loads of tomato plants too but some of them were on top of the washing machine and they jumped off it!
Katie sorry about your ils they sound like a nightmare
Veggie your race sounds ace and ds1 soooo cute. My ds is in 3-6 months in all except trews which are still 0-3 so I think trousers must be bigger. I had a good giggle at your muff faux pas btw!

pmk1 · 20/04/2009 13:45

Well it's now 1330 and I'm still perched on the couch - I should practise what I preach and get some exercise hey Summer! I'm going to wait for B to wake up and give him 2pm feed then set off for a walk.
had a lovely afternoon at the pub yesterday (after I got over the fact that dh slept 2 hours there after his ride) They have a green outside and they give you a picnic blanket and if you can take drinks out there, plus order food and they bring it out. Lovely liquid lunch of 2 spots of cheerfulness and a pick at dh's nachos!
All you Veggie growers! One day one day when we get a house with a bigger garden.
WG Your trip sounded great! Had a sneaky peek at your FB photos.... That reminds me I think Notjustanumber was asking how to join the private group? If you post your email address I can send you the name of the group to search - however it's private anyway so doesn't matter does it if we post? I am getting all caught up in this secrecy stuff now after what happened to Verso Arti how are you feeling?
Lady waiting to hear about your weekend!
Veggie LOL at the Australian pixie! Had a big giggle at your muff remarks! What will your dh be doing in Swansea work wise? I only think of the DVLA when I think Swansea!
JJ Hope she gets better to start up swimming lessons soon! I want to do one of the Water babies courses but will start one when I get back from our trip hopefully
Right, am going to sort out B's top up bottle and then I can go out right after he feeds

Kayzr · 20/04/2009 13:58

HEHEHE!!! I have the close baby carrier and I looked at the instructions for putting DS2 in it as he is bigge. It says it can be used until your lo weighs 32lb. So I decided to put DS1 in it!! It looked so silly, I'm uploading a picture so you can see.

SummerLightning · 20/04/2009 14:03

Funny Kayz. I have the close carrier too, and really get on well with it.
Just got a Manduca which is a bit like an ergo for when DS is bigger, unfortunately he is too big for newborn insert and not quite big enough to go in it without the newborn insert so I think i will have to wait a month to use properly.
Right must get out, got a few bits of shopping to do.

Kayzr · 20/04/2009 14:06

SL, I love it so much. We had a tomy one with DS1 and it was so uncomfy. But the close is great and DS2 loves it.

artichokes · 20/04/2009 14:15

Just a quickie to bookmark myself back on the thread. Am feeling alot better today although these antibiotics are v strong and are really upsetting DD2's tummy. I need to decide what to do about BF now. My head says give up - I keep getting I'll, the ABs make DD2 I'll, my being I'll is unfair on DD1 and DH and is depressing me... However my heart wants to keep going. I love the closeness BF brings, the little comic faces DD2 does while searching for the nipple, the comfort it gives her, her adoring stare as I feed her etc etc etc. I just don't know what is best.

We had a lovely morning this morning. I met two friends and there kids at our local park. DD1 and her little mates paddled in the newly filled paddling pool, they looked sooooo cute with their little white bottoms shining in the sun.

Lovely to see you back WG. Your holiday sounds idyllic. Don't worry about feedingbto sleep. I often do it and think it's one of the lovliest parts of motherhood. Welcome back too to Daisy. Glad you had fun.

Sorry to hear S has a cough JJ. N has had one for about 10 days and I agree it is horrid to watch. A steamy bathroom helps DD2, we just play in there.

Lovely sounding garden Kayz. I can't wait to have a proper garden. Still no news on whether our offer on the new house (& garden) has been accepted.

How was your spa and Golding extravaganza LadyT?

artichokes · 20/04/2009 14:18

Argh. Phone changed "ill" to "I'll" three times in that post. Shame I can't also blame it for the shaming use of there instead of their.

Kayzr · 20/04/2009 14:58

Pics

waitinggirl · 20/04/2009 15:28

arti - poor you. such a dilemma re: bf and mastitis. hope you can make the best decision for you.

kayz - your garden sounds great - mine is nice, but i'm such a backseat gardener. i always have way more plans than i actually ever carry out. i know the names of loads of plants, know where they should be planted etc, but do so little in my own garden. am amazed you can do so much with a little one, too.

jj - good to hear about the pub visit.

pmk - we are also still miracle blanketing madam - if it is getting too small, you can always swaddle without the legs in the pouch, or cut the bottom off so the feet poke through. i know i've got to wean her off it soon - but she will then have to move from her moses basket to her cot and that means the dreaded SLEEPING IN HER OWN ROOM - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! she'll be at college and starting her first job soon.

also re: the fb group - am i part of it? i thought i was, but i fear it may be so secret i don't know how to get to it. could someone tell me, please?

katie - that is pants about the christening - sorry to hear about the ILs.

oh, and am v pleased as my cousin has now relented and has asked dd along to his wedding at the end of next month. originally the invitation was only extended to me and dh, leaving dd who will be 5 months old and who, up til now, hasn't been offered a bottle, so for all intents and purposes i wasn't able to go. i was intending on going on my own to the ceremony only, leaving dd iwth dh in a pub around the corner, but now we can all go together and attend the reception as well. hurrah. don't get me wrong, i understand why some people don't want children at their weddings. we didn't have children at our wedding reception (but invited to the ceremony), but we did invite all the babies as they didn't take up the space of an adult. anyway, all good now.

Kayzr · 20/04/2009 15:30

WG You are in the FB group, just looked. If you go onto your profile then click the info tab at the top down the page it brings up a list of your groups.

LadyThompson · 20/04/2009 16:08

Hello kids!

It's quite hot here without being sunny. I can't believe I seem to have frittered away another day - going to take DD for a long walk in a mo - going to do it every day, as the weightloss is going nowhere!

It was great to see my mate do his stand up on Friday night and we went for a drink after. It's always faintly awkward with DP there, not sure why...Myabe because he is a fan and it makes me cringe very slightly...The golf lesson was ACE, I adored my gentle instructor who kept calling me Miss, so strangely Lady Chatterley, but I am still aching. And then all the spa stuff was gorgeous - it's an ex-stately home as well, so very nice surroundings - the hot stone massage was a bit soft for me (and didn't really like the hot stones, ha) but the facial was fantastic (bit spotty now though) and DP and I were lolling around in the jacuzzi, steam room and so on for most of the afternoon. There were a lot of squawking hen parties, though. I don't want to burst anyone's bubble and we all love a hen party but no need to carry on like a pack of live crows having their feathers plucked out...On the other hand, if we all went there I am sure we would end up sounding the same! DP was one of only three men I saw all day and there must've been, I don't know, maybe 150 women? But he is a big puff about spas and enjoyed his facial etc. I got to see my Mum on the way home as well, hurrah, which I sorely needed after time at my MiL's....

Right, welcome back to WG and DaisyD! WG, I am glad you had a lovely time and DD, how is your poor Nan?

Kayz - cool news about the midwifery course. I have garden envy, it all sounds so lovely...

Veggie - you ran ? Great Scott. Good for you! I can only amble heavily, like a mummy elephant.

Katie, so sorry the christening was a little chequered after all that prep. I hope the doc can sort you out, this illness really is dragging on isn't it?

It's lovely to hear from MajorMoo and Pixsix again! Hooray! And in case any other oldies are reading this, please come and visit! There is no law about posting daily. Come when you can!

Arti, I am SOOOOOO glad the mastitis is on the retreat, you poor old thing. Any news on the house? Fwiw my DD still looks at me adoringly when she has her rotten old bottle Well, unless something more interesting is happening elsewhere in the room I am also glad you enjoyed Brighton - it's a place of which I am also fond. I get such a twinge when I say goodbye to Mum after lunch - I do think of you, Jump and Turnip so much in that regard

Notjustanumber - oh, do come and join the party! Don't stand out there in the cold, sweetie And a virtual bucket of water to friends neglecting you since you've had kids. But don't you worry - there's genuine friendship in abundance on here, until you feel a bit more confident to get out and about more, (and then there is always the commune on here, though I think we all have slightly different ideas of the commune Which bit of Brum are you from? I was born near there. A much maligned part of the world. Do you still have relatives there?

Jam - I went to Bicester Village last week - thought of you. Got a great green Temperley bag, much reduced!

Lal - I LOOOVE PG Wodehouse, and in fact, DD was very nearly named after one of his characters...But I am saving it in case I have another girl. Oh, how I love naming children.

Jump - sorry you had a bad night the other night. And the description of your book sounds like the only sane way to deal with cheerleaders Glad you had a nice time in the pub with Summer. And you, PMK! Bet you were at that pub at Richmond Green!

ZJ - how is your coldy DD today?

Right, off for a brisk walk for an hour. I have to get off my fat backside....

daisydora · 20/04/2009 17:05

Wow, what a beautiful day! I have had my lardy bum on a lounger all day while DH has done the weeds, lawn, turned the soil and laid new bark chippings Was great watching him sweat while I did nothing!

EffiePerine · 20/04/2009 17:05

Am not here. Am packing and NOT sitting on the bed eating a sausage roll.

LadyT: am intrigued. Madeleine? Hermione? Stiffy? Actually if I had a daughter I'd be willing her to turn out like Stiffy Byng...

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 20/04/2009 17:46

ladyt sounds like a lovely day at the spa! Good job you didn't run across my hen party, we terrorised Brussels & a local Greek restaurant

pmk I was going to say the same as ladyt & ask if you were at the pub on Richmond Green. I didn't know they gave you picnic blankets?!

arti it sounds like an awful decision you have to make, as others have said, make sure its the right one for you.

katie how awful of your ILs. Is bil still godfather or is it someone else?

effie well done on the packing, I think you're entitled to a rest & a (Greggs?) sausage roll!

daisy is dh hoping for a bit of sugar by any chance?

We've had a lovely day though ds2 is suffering with his teeth. Ds1 has now decided that his teeth also hurt as they are coming through . We've been out in the garden planting some seeds, ds1 has planted an apple core & is hoping to will grow.

LadyThompson · 20/04/2009 17:55

All this gardening action!

Ooh, a sausage roll. That walk has made me very hungry. Quorn make sausage rolls now (and Scotch eggs and pork pies, ho!) It really is very beautiful around here, moan though I do. It is breathtaking this evening and I watched a girl of about 12 putting a lovely pony through his paces.

Effie...packing sucks. And the answer is...one of Bertie's fine Aunts! I think that narrows it down sufficiently

LadyThompson · 20/04/2009 17:59

And after waxing lyrical about the charming Oxfordshire countryside, I would also like to put in a complaint about the awful shagging woodpigeons. They have been flapping about and chasing around and wrestling with each other since yesterday, it is noisy and Mr Woodpigeon is something of a thug.

But the bunnies on the lawn almost make up for it.

Right, off to salvage what I can of the two organic cauliflowers. A nice treat for DP. Boiled cauli.

Veggiemummy · 20/04/2009 19:00

Well had a lovely day went to kedleston hall with a friend and her kids. Her son pushed ds1 into a pond so has pond muck all over his clothes. He took them off and ran around in his undies so then his friend took his clothes off too and ran around ruddy nudey too.

Aaarrrrrggggghhhhhh trying to juggle bedtimes here and J just isn't playing ball. Poor ds1 has had to have his tea on his own downstairs while J has been screaming at me up here. I don't know what's happening lately he used to be great to put to sleep bath feed into bed wriggle a but maybe need a bit more feed then sleep with a bit of a bounce of the amby cot. But the last few days both naps and bedtime have been a struggle just put him into bed to scream it out as sitting by cot being screamed at is a break from holding and having boobs screamed at...wait a minute silence could this be it...will check back later want to get involved in veggie patch chat.

Veggiemummy · 20/04/2009 19:05

Oh and JJ jealous of your Italian would love to speak it. We have been there so much I know def know more italian than any other European language but really doesn't extend much past ordering food and ordering half a caraf of wine. For a while I could neve remember the word for half, meso so kept having to order a litre of wine with lunch so often had some wobbly rides after lunch, and a visit to a Venetian glass shop nearly ended in tears.

pmk1 · 20/04/2009 19:56

Ahhhh Lady sounds like a lovely time had by both for your birthday celebrations! and Tilly nope it was on the edge of Wimbledon common and there is a little patch of green that 2 pubs share the green and do blanket service here
However.... I was at the pub opposite Richmond green meeting some friends only 2 weeks ago!
WG Yes - that's what I've started doing now - leaving his legs out of the pouch! I thought of getting mil to copy the pattern in a bigger size with some muslin material, but have since decided I don't need the flappy bits as he settles quite well just wrapped up, however I've worked out a good way to tuck his arms down with a regular large muslin so that's my answer to the warmer months and Aust

notjustanumber · 20/04/2009 20:34

I am very envious of all you gardeners. I bought seeds and wrote a list, but that is all that happened. We did plant some seeds in pots but DS1 thought he could pour the soil in and out of them like sand so I cant imagine what is growing in there now.

LadyT - hello - I come from South Birmingham, Moseley, Sparkhill area and spent my youth around Hall Green/Solihull/Kings Heath. My dad and younger siblings still live there. It has changed a lot since I grew up, I kind of almost miss the Bull Ring Saffron Walden is very small town in comparison. I am amazed at all the stuff you get up to. I seem to have spent most of my mat leave on the sofa feeling tired

Cambridge Ladies I dont have access to a car during the day, but I could come over on the train for a day ? Would be very exciting for DS1, loves trains/cars/anything with wheels and an engine..

BTW, I dont think you can make a rod for your back. I fed both mine to sleep. When DS1 was 4-5 months I worked myself into a state worrying about routines (or lack of), weaning and nurseries, and looking at him now I cant believe I worried so much. I think you have to do whats right for you and the baby at the time, all these things pass so quickly and then the next thing comes along....I'm much more relaxed this time.

Off to eat Angel Delight - recently rediscovered, guilty yum..
