Here we go then

roll up, roll up for the six month food fest.

Better night here, only two feeds at 1ish and 5ish, but at one point bumble was having a real chat to his blankie. DH was on the sofa and said he couldn't figure out who was talking and thought it was DD until he heard me say "shut up bumble". I have no recollection of it

We've given up with the porridge for a bit as it might have been that upsetting his tummy. He's certainly more cheerful now it's cleared his system.

at J's great head of hair Autumnlady. Poor Amy has about 4 blonde hairs standing straight up and nothing else. She does have 2 teeth for the last 2 months though

LackaDAISYcal · 14/04/2009 16:12

Bumble will be 24 weeks on Saturday, born 1st November.

My new nappies came today.....flowery fuzzis, a couple of plain fuzzis and a lovely, furry, strokeable, loveable itti bitti d'lish. It's more like a cuddly toy than a nappy, lol

right off to catch the post office.

No teeth
No rolling
No haircut required
No sleeping through
No ability to swallow food
No stopping inconsolable crying for hours and hours at a time. Assumed teething. Been like this for nearly 3 weeks. Teethers and granules and calpol not working. Any ideas ?

5inthebed · 14/04/2009 16:22

Oblomov Have you tried Nurofen for kids? I find it works better than calpol.

Sumo has no hair worth cutting. Am very at a hairy baby.

AFingerofFudge · 14/04/2009 16:38

M has no hair, other two were like that so no suprise really.

obs haven't any words of wisdom at inconsolable crying, I'm sorry. Have you had him checked for things like ear problems or throat problems?
lacks just been considering swapping to washable nappies. Have been looking at bumgenius nappies and itti bitti's. Can't see a review or rating on MN for itti bitti's - would be interested to know what you think of them. (yes, I am a sad shallow being who goes for looks as well as performance when it comes to nappies!!)

londonboots · 14/04/2009 17:15

oooh! such a lot of chat!

daisy glad your DD is ok - must have been very scary for you and DH.

fudge, I think choc is a big fan of the ittis - I'm sure she will be able to give you a full review!

dozy glad you are feeling better! must be so frustrating with it recurring...

a bit grey here today here but still feels like spring - have the windows open - it's lovely! has anyone switched to 1-tog sleeping bags? I bought two 1-tog bags today - a woven cotton Grobag and a jersey cotton John Lewis branded one. the jersey JL one feels much thicker/warmer, almost like the 2.5-tog Grobags...? The 1-tog Grobag just feels like a double thick cotton sheet almost. Can't be just the different fabrics... Anyway, according the the guidelines M should be in vest and 1-tog bag - this just feels wrong to me! I know babies can overheat quite easily but this doesn't feel enough at all. I think I will still have him in vest/sleepsuit. a bit of a ramble but I do have a question - what is your LO currently sleeping in??

chocolategal · 14/04/2009 17:39

Hi

lots to catch up on! Have read everything but no time for big post!

to hear about your gran rutho
londonboots i am still using my 2.5tog bag, DS room is usually 18-20degrees and we keep the heating off overnight so he is in a short sleeve vest and sleepsuit inside the grobag.
I have a couple of 1tog but they so seem really thin!

Im another one who writes the number of weeks DS is in diary!!

Back later, almost bath time

Heartmum2Jamie · 14/04/2009 18:07

Oblomov, I haven't been on for ages again, but was just coming on for some advice and maybe a little whinge () and saw your list, which has made me smile as I could almost have typed the exact same thing, except Zack learned to roll the other day.

I am a very tired mummy and feel like I am being made to suffer now for having a baby that slept great to start with. Zack now wakes every night, sometime between 2.30 & 5am and BABBLES, loudly, for a blummin' hour, then cries because he's tired. It seems like it has become a habit and I am tempted to wake him briefly before he wakes anyway. I know it doesn't sound like much, but I find I am struggling & overwhelmed with having 3 kids as it is (Zack has become very high needs, whiney & clingy and is driving me INSANE) and I actually am not sleeping well due to the fact that I am anxious and on edge about what time and how long Zack will be awake for. It isn't so bad right now as dh is on garden leave, working his notice at home before starting his new job. However, I really need to nip this in the bud and get him back to sleeping until fed time about 6am as dh starts back to work on 27th. I wish I could put Zack in his own room but he doesn't have one, ds2 sleeps really well so I am loathed to put Zack in with him and ds1 wakes almost as much as Zack, plus he doesn't want to share. Does anyone have any suggestions or has been through something like this?

MerryMarigold · 14/04/2009 18:11

I have no idea of weeks. i guess must be nearly 26 though if they were 22.10. gave mashed banana on sun, J not hugely interested, M 'yummed it up'.

obs, feel for u. M went thru a v bad 'patch' for a month, nothing worked. Just got better overnight.

no teeth, rolling or sleep thrus here either.

saw my sister's big belly on skype today. wicked! her baby is now 24wks.

MerryMarigold · 14/04/2009 18:13

sorry heartmum. no experience. maybe a travel cot downstairs till he breaks habit? mine up around 5x per night so am no expert!!

Emmanj · 14/04/2009 18:26

DD also has a massive load of hair (9 months of killer heartburn to go with!) , but not sure i want to cut it as its gone curly and i think if i cut it, it will look ridiculous. My friends tell me it looks like Tom Jones! It is slightly uncontrollable!

heartmum - sounds tough, sorry i cant help - no experience either - swaddling really tight so he cant wake himself up? Is he on solids yet, could he be hungry/thirsty?

Sleeping clothes - DD sleeps in babygrow in a 2.5 tog sleeping bag. No vest. usually put a thin sheet tucked realy well down sides of cot over her too which stops her thrashing about and waking self up.

Meant to say earlier aswell, rutho, must be sad seeing your nan. Hugs to you.

x

Heartmum2Jamie · 14/04/2009 19:01

I wondered if he was waking with hunger as he isn't on solids (he was 5 months on the 7th and we are holding out to 6 months MINIMUM, especially as he broke out in a couple of hives the other day and we aren't sure what from (ds2 has numerous food allergies). However, he seems content to just babble to himself and eventually goes back off to sleep or cries with tiredness and wakes later for a feed. I might try just feeding him straight away, being up twice to breastfeed for 10-15 minutes at a time is better than dreading him waking all night, then listening to him for an hour or more and then just getting back off to sleep before being woken for a feed.

ellielou02 · 14/04/2009 19:31

Hi all
Obs and Heartmum have you tried a dummy? Thats the only other thing I could think of but you have both probably exhausted everything, hope this passes soon and you both get some sleep.
fudge I just started using reusables about a month ago and I LOVE THEM I have ittis, bumgenius, flexi tots and fuzzy bunz. I find the ittis quite neat under clothes and they keep dry for about 3 to 3.5 hours but would only use them during the day as they would leak if you had them on any longer, but they are very pretty, I like the bumgenius too and have used these successfully overnight.
rutho sorry to hear your gran is poorly she sounds like she has a great character.
I have a question does anyone have the tommee tippee mico steriliser?? My avent one broke last night and my MIL had the TT one spare but dont know how much water to put in it and how long does it keep things serile for?

5inthebed · 14/04/2009 19:49

Ellielou its 80ml for the TT steriliser.

Sumo had an apple/rice combo for his tea tonight and loved it. He is great at this solids thing.

He is still in 2.5 tog sleeping bag with sleepsuit and vest. It is still cold oop north.

Heartmum Do you have a mobile over Zack's cot/crib? We have a remote control one, and when Sumo wakes up and I know he doesn't want a feed I put it on and he soon nods back off.

Dozymare · 14/04/2009 20:06

heartmum lovely to see you posting again! Sorry for the tough times you are having. Would you perhaps consider a routine?? If yes, I can help you as promise that it will work. Tiger has been sleeping since 9 weeks 7pm-7am with a quick dream feed at 1030pm (although dropped this now) and sleeps for 1 hour 0900-1200 and 1200-1430-1500ish......Lots of other's on this thread do GF lite and it really, really works.......

LadyBuzz · 14/04/2009 20:07

Evening everyone.

Heartmum good to see you sorry you are having troubles, You too Obs Autumnlady how lovely having a hair cut, DS1 had loads of hair like J and Jay has hardly any at all.

Jay is getting the hang of solids, he loves the HIPP mixed vegetable medley. I really must get myself into gear and make some purees for him.

Rutho sorry to hear about your Grandma. hugs to you.

Hope everyone else is well, I love looking at all the babies on FB they are all little stunners.

LadyBuzz · 14/04/2009 20:09

Sorry forgot to say gld DD is OK Daisy
And glad Dozy is feeling better!

LackaDAISYcal · 14/04/2009 20:13

OMG, maybe bumble is just cold? he sleeps in a vest and sleepsuit and nothing else as he hates the blanket over him.

He's still awake so I'm off to pop in in a bag right now and see how we go.....will he be too warm on vest, sleepsuit and 2.5tog bag though?

hey heartmum....we have a non sleeper as well, but he isn't as bad as some. But, factor in DS1 up to either have a wee or cos he is wet, and DD's night terrors and it's like clapham junction here most nights!!

How did your surgery go?....you survived then?

Heartmum / OBS- I posted a few days ago about a clingly whingy and screaming baby - tonight Dh did not go to the gym as he could see that minirosa was not going to behave - DD1 really tired so not a good idea to go for a walk so he took mr for a walk - she was fine ( madam) not tired as slept for about 20 mins. She requires entertaining - sitting in my arms or even better me walking round with her- It does my head in as I can't go out walking every blessed time she gets a strop. However she does sleep at night - I do still dream feed round 10.30 ish and am scared of stopping incase she goes back to 1 & 4 am waking.
No hair here either well its still fine and not long.
NOt rolling. not sitting but she had discovered that toys can go in mouth as well now.
Grobags we are probably a few degrees warmer than the UK ( at a guess) she is in a 2.5 and babygro and vest to be honest - when I took a layer off she was cold. I don't have a 1.5 bag ( only a sheet one but its 18 mths)and was hoping that we could do without ..I might have to get one...will see.

ellielou02 · 14/04/2009 20:23

Hi dozy I am doing GF lite and dd currently takes 4 x 8oz bottles at 7.30, 2.30 6.30 & 11 she has "brunch" at 11 in the morning and "tea" at about 5, I keep offering water but she isnt keen and just sucks till she realises what it is! Now what I want to ask is the dream feed at 11 I dont think she really needs this as she sometimes just takes a few ounces and isnt that hungry in the morning but I dont want to drop it until she is taking water, what does tiger have during the day if you dont mind me asking? As I am worrying if she drops this feed will she be getting enough fluid.
5 Thanks I googled it and got 200mls!!! I did this tonight before I read your post and have made the bottles up but dont think it will have done much damage just this once, but thanks will do the 80 mls tomorrow

Ceebee74 · 14/04/2009 20:24

HM2J lovely to hear from you - I can't even begin to imagine how hard it is for you having 2 other children to deal with as well as a 'high needs' baby. I have seen loads of threads on here about the 'waking to sleep' and they all swear it works - surely it has to be worth a try as you are going to wake up anyway - might just break the habit.

londonboots I am still using a 2.5 tog grobag plus he just has a babygro on (no vest). The room is usually about 21/22 degrees. I will probably switch to a 1.0 tog grobag around the end of May (unless we get a heatwave before then) and I even have a 0.5 one for the really hot nights (not that we get many of those up north - the reason I have it is that DS1 was born in the really really hot summer of 2006).

Well I don't think Sam is ready for solids just yet - tried him with sweet potato this afternoon. The first mouthful, he gagged quite badly and then vomited up tons of milk and then after that, he just pushed every mouthful right back out again. Am guessing he hasn't lost the tongue-thrust reflex yet?? Does that make sense? How do people wean really young babies who still must have the tongue-thrust reflex?? Am a bit confused tbh as to what to do next....maybe leave it a few days and try again.

chocolategal · 14/04/2009 20:25

Daisy thats what E sleeps in and is never too hot. I have a monitor with a room thermometer built in and room is about 18-20 degrees.

That all sounds great on the job front hana

Ellielou have text you re steriliser

PinkyMinxy · 14/04/2009 20:29

Hello again.

oBS therapy went well, I think. Had crappetty crap from drunken sis this afternoon but manged to switch her off and make cardboard fishtank with DCs instead so the therapy must be working!

Also re sleeping and crying. Veyr sorry to hear this. Definitely not his ears? THat can make them inconsolable and is easily mis diagnosed.

hAIR: nope, still . Mimi is going (I think) to have sandy coloured baby curls and I want them NOW!

Heartmum Hi sorry you are not getting sleep. It's a killer. Much sympathy.

Ok so Mimi was born on 24th October so she'll be 25 weeks on Friday, yes? I hope that's right. So no porridge this week.

sleeping bags I just use 1 tog ones the whole time. The ones I have for 6-12 are made of cotton- 2 shop bought, 2 home made. I have some of the zip through the middle grobag organic ones inherited fromk niece, thye are good, but not in this size, just bigger. Mimi is still in her nighties- see I told you they last ages! Obviously her feet are now at the bottom of them, but that's ok. SHe sleeps really well.

I am studiously IGNORING all talk of buying nappies. DH would be justifiably cross if I bought any more

ChocOrange05 · 14/04/2009 20:30

Just a quickie for Fudge about the loveliest softest nappies in the world (not that I've tried them all!). Itti's are lush material, they are really soft and as Daisy said, you can stroke them like a cuddly toy. They are also the slimmest fitting nappy I have tried, especially around the waist (not so much on the bum though). The only downside, which is a pretty important part of them though, is that they don't last too long on my DS - they leak around the legs if on for longer than 3 hours, but my DS has very skinny legs so it could be just him (he also leaks around the legs on other reuseables but not as quickly).

HTH - I have to go as my mum is visiting but if beckoned I will respond!

PS - we have a few new things happening in chez choco this week - 2 that make me proud, 1 that makes me sad as my boy is now a BOY : they are, blowing raspberries, grabbing his feet, and yep - grabbing his willy - am I know he'll never let go of it again now!!!

Hello and hugs to everyone else and their babies.
